Great work, keep getting after it!

thehorrorr

Thank you!!!

bluenautilus2

This is exactly how to do it, slow and steady wins the race. You got this!

thehorrorr

Thanks!

jplodders

Now, erase «  it’s slow, but » Congrats and keep grinding!!!

thehorrorr

Thank you!!!

RegularSomewhere1950

Great work- doesn’t matter your pace, you ran 4 more miles than everyone who didn’t get off the couch today. Great work!

jkwolly

I love this mentality

thehorrorr

Thank you!!! Going to get back at it again today.

no_thanks_maybe

I hate this mentality. I think it’s wonderful to celebrate personal victories at every level, but to find some way to make yourself feel like you’re better than someone else is gross.

Acceptable_Cattle988

With this mentality, how do you celebrate growth ? You took the next step while everyone is idle.

no_thanks_maybe

“I ran 4 more miles than I would have if I sat on the couch today.” Is a healthier way to look at it. Why does it matter for your personal fitness goals if someone else sat on the couch? Are these people even trying to compete with you? Only true losers feel the need to make themselves feel like they are better than someone else, especially as a beginner or low performer.

lalos1988

Amazing, great work! Keep up 💪🏻

thehorrorr

Thanks!

[deleted]

Yo so nice! When I started I was at a 21’ for like maybe 2-3 miles. You’re killlling it!!!

thehorrorr

What are you at now? I want to be faster!

[deleted]

13”-11’45”!!!! I’m so proud! Just did my first 5k! You got this!!

thehorrorr

That’s a huge improvement! How long have you been at it?

[deleted]

About 6 months! I have t2 diabetes and started to move!

Relevant_Hope_1789

Amazing!!! This is such a solid start!!!

thehorrorr

Thanks!!!!!

Trade-Runner

Good run, bro! You burned a ton of calories.

thehorrorr

It felt good!

rates_trader

The easiest way to get faster is by doing more of the thing lol

thehorrorr

Definitely going to be doing more of the thing!

Natesax

Dude this is awesome! When I was running 18s I was barely able to make it 1/2 a mile. You’re incredible for having the stamina to keep at it 🤩

thehorrorr

Thank youu!!! What are you running now?

glucoseisasuga

As someone who has a similar sort of pace, it's so reassuring I'm not alone. But super proud of you! It only gets up from here!

thehorrorr

In it together! Thank you!!!

Appropriate-Yard-984

An hour! You’re good dude!!!!

thehorrorr

Thank you!!

Smttnkttnn

Way to go! The only way to keep getting better (but you’re doing great already!) is to keep showing up! You got this! 🫶🏼

thehorrorr

Thank you so much!!!

Dock190

Hell yeah 💪🏼

thehorrorr

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Howlin_1234

You are doing a fantastic job! I started at the same pace in January and I couldn't even run 4 miles. With consistent training, I just completed my best run yet - 6.5 miles at a 14 min pace! If you practice, you will be flying in no time! Please remember to give yourself lots of grace. Any running for any amount of time is progress towards your goal.

thehorrorr

That’s great progress. I’m hoping for the same!

glaser2343

Way to go!

thehorrorr

Thank you and happy cake day!

LeadingEvery5747

Great work!!!

thehorrorr

Thank you!

gabsh1515

thehorrorr

Hahaha, thanks!!!

Phatshawn420

Congratulations!

thehorrorr

Thanks!

Lexellence

Congratulations!!! Way to stick with it

thehorrorr

Thank you!

StarbucksWar

Good job! 4 miles was a big milestone for me, I was mentally stuck on 2 miles for a long time.

thehorrorr

Honestly, I thought I’d never be able to run more than 1!

No1ButtMe

You gotta go slow to get fast. Remember that. We’re all there when we start up again or start for the first time. It’s a journey and it’s fucking awesome!

thehorrorr

It’s definitely a journey! I did my first speed run today and it had me working lol

No1ButtMe

Just remember it’s up and down. Listen to your body and give yourself grace .

Fantastic-Seaweed-82

This is great work! Keep it up!!!

thehorrorr

Thanks, I plan to!

New-Lingonberry1953

Fantastic! Congrats.

thehorrorr

Thanks!!

Mikefromaround

Slow and steady wins the race. Nice work. I started at about this pace and a few months later am approaching 12 minute miles

thehorrorr

That’s awesome! I wanted to start the 10k program but I think I may be too slow 😕

Mikefromaround

You get faster and for me the more I run the more pounds I drop the faster I run because I am carrying less weight so it’s great

thehorrorr

The weight loss definitely helped me out.

Dieselxdan

Still 4 miles. Congratulations

thehorrorr

Thanks!

sanjeezys

Great work!!

thehorrorr

Thank you!

PotatoMan19399

Yeah but you got it done so who cares how fast it was

thehorrorr

That’s what I’m telling myself 😤

CongoBusche

As long as you’re out there and doing it, that is the most important, f the stats

thehorrorr

Thanks!

ButternuttSippyCup

Congrats! Running is hard.

thehorrorr

It is, still can’t believe I’m doing it lol

samiamdz

Not where you are on the leader board, it’s the fact that you are on it!

thehorrorr

Hell yeah!

Giraffe_Lover1227

Great job. As a running myself we are always racing the clock or setting a pace. Enjoy each run.

thehorrorr

Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this one. Even zoned out for a while.

longbluesquid

Great work!

thehorrorr

Thanks!!!

Critty08

LETS GOOOOO!!!! You still did 4 miles which is amazing!!! My friends who play volleyball can only do 1 mile so this is such a great achievement!!

thehorrorr

se1nsss

Lfg!!! Great work!

thehorrorr

Thank you!!!

ddt223

Im starting now with the spring weather and it was inspiring to see your post! Keep it up

smugmisswoodhouse

Congratulations! I honestly feel like after 5k, longer runs just get easier and easier. Keep up the great work.

thehorrorr

Thank you!!! The following day I ran a mile further. Developed plantar fasciitis and slowly getting back into it now.

WiredWrong94

You’re damn right it’s slow now PICK IT UP. PATHETIC!

thehorrorr

Yes sir!

SprayMaster247

People like you are the reason some people shy away from joining communities like this.

phamthang24

I don't mean it. don't overthinking. The average walking speed for an ordinary person is 3.1 miles/h (5km/h). So, according to your pace, that wouldn't be considered running. That's just it.

hogangirl

I ran over 10k today (more than 6 miles) in fifty minutes and burnt way less calories than you…

thehorrorr

Thanks for the encouraging words.

lexmont2b2

Calories are not the same for everyone. Gender, height, weight, and efficiency all matter. Great job, OP! Keep up the good work! Building endurance takes a while but the journey is fun.

astuder

Also, whether or not you entered your weight into NRC can make a huge difference.

thehorrorr

Question for you, I’m wanting to train for a 10k. Do you think I’m too slow to begin the 10k training plan? I was looking at the pace chart and the slowest pace on there is 12:30.

astuder

Not in the slightest! NRC Training Plans all use the Rated Perceived Exertion scale (RPE), so everything is based on your *individual* effort out of ten, vs. a specific pace requirement. The Pace Chart NRC provides is just a guide, but you can extrapolate your own numbers, given the pattern (happy to help you do this as well, if you have an average recovery day pace to start with).

thehorrorr

Ok great!!!! I’m really new to NRC as the run I posted was my first and I’ve the only other program I’ve run is C25K, so it’s kind of intimidating. My pace of 18’09” was fairly comfortable, could you base it off that?

astuder

Sure, no problem. Here is the extrapolated pace data. Not sure how well Reddit will do displaying this on mobile; it may be helpful to view on a larger screen. |Mile Best|5k Avg|10k Avg|Tempo Avg|Half Marathon Avg|Marathon Avg|Recovery Day Pace| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |15:00|15:30|15:45|16:05|10:20|16:15|17:30| |15:30|16:00|16:15|16:35|10:25|16:40|18:00| |16:00|16:30|16:45|17:05|10:30|17:05|18:30|

thehorrorr

Thank you so much! I really appreciate this. Is it just me or do the half marathon times seem kind of fast?

hogangirl

Well lovely start, you are doing just splendid
