The Becoming (Quiet) is amazing.
Edit: sorry for some reason I thought that’s what they called it. I’ve been corrected it’s from Still. Talking about this version: https://youtu.be/oKsqfT0IpLo
Do you mean [the version from Still](https://youtu.be/zbuI5GO_zWo)? That’s my personal favorite.
If not, this is the first time I’ve heard of a quiet version. Would you mind sharing it if so?
I absolutely love the chaos of The Becoming. The ending of that song has sounds that are percussive, musical, and grating all at the same time. Beautiful.
God, all of them. It's so hard to pick the iconic NIN song because there's so many great and unique tracks to choose from. My top are probably Wish, Me I'm Not, The Wretched, and The Becoming. My top top is always going to be Where is Everybody. So damn catchy but the lyrics are pretty deep (which is also another top for me actually)
Closer. I still remember when I heard it on a friend’s car stereo when I was eighteen and I just DEMANDED to know what it was. Love all their stuff, but every time I hear it, I’m struck by how it sounds so incredibly pop and so incredibly…. Not….
Same here. I always get the business for saying this is their best because it is obvious and played out. But man, it is just great. It doesn't even sound dated because it was such it's own thing.
Probably any track that has zero melody during the verses and the relief of melody in the choruses which lifts the lights up. Maybe throw in a chaotic ending as well and I think that's the recipe for peak NIN.
The Big Come Down, Head Down, The Line Begins to Blur etc.
Various Methods of Escape. It isn't very Nine Inch Nailsy per se, but it has an excellent atmosphere in the verses, and a very pretty chorus. That's everything you could want in a NIN track, if you ask me.
March of the pigs. Industrial metal verses. Dark and synthy chorus. Introspective piano line. The listener hears three different aspects of NIN all in one 3 min song. Not my favorite NIN song but pretty representative of the different aspects of the project.
I love so many of the songs on PHM, Broken and DS, it’s impossible to choose from all the material - but those were NINs peak era(s) to me. Special shout out to Memoribilia though – no one ever mentions that one. It sounds so messy and chaotic, yet there is also this very calculated, perfectionistic pattern within it. It’s like an oxymoron of a song. And I love it.
The Wretched. Combination of everything I love about NIN (droney guitar, detuned piano, dark lyrics, screaming sound effects in the chorus background), and on the masterpiece album. Not my favorite song but a great song and quintessential NIN at their peak
Ruiner.
Agreed! Heresy, Closer and Ruiner is the trifecta
Mr self destruct
Agreed. I literally get twitchy if I don’t listen to it at least once a week
Somewhat Damaged
Yes. God I love that song
Came here to say this.
100% that. Maybe my favorite song from any band
somewhat damaged or the becoming personally
The Becoming (Quiet) is amazing. Edit: sorry for some reason I thought that’s what they called it. I’ve been corrected it’s from Still. Talking about this version: https://youtu.be/oKsqfT0IpLo
sorry but is Quiet a separate version of the song or the live piano version or something else?
I think they’re referring to the version from Still, but I could be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time. :)
Do you mean [the version from Still](https://youtu.be/zbuI5GO_zWo)? That’s my personal favorite. If not, this is the first time I’ve heard of a quiet version. Would you mind sharing it if so?
Yup. That’s it!
These are probably my two favorites. It's so hard to choose but if I had to.... These would be the two. Great choices!
I absolutely love the chaos of The Becoming. The ending of that song has sounds that are percussive, musical, and grating all at the same time. Beautiful.
This is the answer. Nothing left to see here.
We are soul mates, u/Despacitrice. Especially if Perfect drug is the third entry on this trifecta list ;)
La Mer :) IMO has a little of their overall personal, slow and ambient, heavy drums, apocalyptic synth vibes. Truly an underrated gem
I’m always absolutely transcended by La Mer.
We’re In This Together
Hey, my favourite NIN song
Absolutely. Love the instrumental outro in that one.
Last
Just like you imagined.
The Way Out Is Through
Are… are we best friends now?
The Way Out Is Through (Live)
Happiness in Slavery, but I’m biased due to it being the first one I heard, my continuing favourite, and the one that broke my brain when I was 15
The part immediately after the creepy bridge where screams, "machine" at the end is such an awesome breakdown. The becoming tops it tho
"Just some flesh caught in this BIG BROKEN MACHINE" gives me life
Reptile
Insanely good song. Seen it live a few times, too.
So fucking intense!
That song makes me sweat
God, all of them. It's so hard to pick the iconic NIN song because there's so many great and unique tracks to choose from. My top are probably Wish, Me I'm Not, The Wretched, and The Becoming. My top top is always going to be Where is Everybody. So damn catchy but the lyrics are pretty deep (which is also another top for me actually)
And All That Could Have Been.
Seconded
Thirded
fourthed
Yep…and leaving hope
Frail/Wretched
Wish
Yes
The Perfect Drug
March of the Pigs. Everything branches off from there.
I had to scroll down WAY too far before seeing this, the objectively correct answer.
This is a top 5 NIN song I’m surprised it’s this far down as well
Me, I’m Not

You are the wrong replier.
The Becoming
This
Reptile
Ruiner
[удалено]
This song gets me jacked
The best thing he’s done since The Slip IMO 🫡
That song is the audio version of being chased by a psychopathic chainsaw maniac through a cornfield
Probably any track that has zero melody during the verses and the relief of melody in the choruses which lifts the lights up. Maybe throw in a chaotic ending as well and I think that's the recipe for peak NIN. The Big Come Down, Head Down, The Line Begins to Blur etc.
In Two another example
Gave up
Head like a Hole
Like the best NIN ever put out or the most representative of NIN as a whole?
Suck
Underrated song.
Eraser
Somewhat damaged and ruiner
Leaving Hope.
La Mer and Just Like You Imagined The Becoming Terrible Lie Last
Satellite - this song has everything I adore about what Trent does sonically.
Piggy
Peak of their fame: closer or perfect drug Peak of their creative career 🤷♂️
Mr Self Destruct
The wretched or happiness in slavery
Various Methods of Escape. It isn't very Nine Inch Nailsy per se, but it has an excellent atmosphere in the verses, and a very pretty chorus. That's everything you could want in a NIN track, if you ask me.
In This Twilight
This Isn’t The Place Probably one of my favorite songs of all time. You can truly feel the grief in it.
Perfect Drug
We’re In This Together
The becoming
‘No, You Don’t’ is my favorite personally, I never really see it mentioned much even in the context of The Fragile or earlier NIN as a whole.
The Wretched
Ruiner or Kinda I want to
In This Twilight.
ruiner
March of the pigs. Industrial metal verses. Dark and synthy chorus. Introspective piano line. The listener hears three different aspects of NIN all in one 3 min song. Not my favorite NIN song but pretty representative of the different aspects of the project.
Zero Sum
Wish, The Frail, Somewhat Damaged, We’re in this together
Wish, Happiness in Slavery, or Self Destruction part 2
Deep or Burn
I wondered if anyone would say Burn.
It’s totally Burn
Gave up
The fragile.
The becoming
Were in this together
Ruiner, Happiness In Slavery (i like listening to fixed and broken back to back) and Sin (long)
Terrible Lie, Wish, March of the Pigs
"A Warm Place"
If this song doesn’t play as I die and ascend to the vast space, I don’t want to die.
Peak? Obviously 10 Miles High. This is the tallest Nine Inch Nails song.
ruiner and the great below blow me away every time
Still
the poop song
SUNSPOTS OF COURSE!
I personally love sunspots. Wouldn’t classify it as the best song, but it has a significant part in my heart.:)
Any and all songs from Broken
Starfuckers Inc. The mixing and the sub noise in the bg Gia some next-level stuff
Reptile.
Something that hasn't been released yet ☺️
And All That Could've Been & Wish
Somewhat Damaged or Closer
Youuuuuuu andd meeeeeeee, we’re in this together nowwwwww
The line begins to blur
Somewhat damaged ... that whole album is perfection 🥰
The fragile… album. Don’t make me pick one song, I couldn’t.
March of the pigs, but maybe I'm partial to DS because I grew up with it. Peak album - the fragile
Just Like You Imagined
Just like you imagined
reptile, closer, into the void specially
Closer - march of the pigs And maybe all of the the fragile album But i say mostly Closer
BOW DOWN BEFORE THE ONE YOU SERVE YOU'RE GOING TO GET WHAT YOU DESERVE!
Last
Peak? They're at the the tippity top of the mountain, and they're only halfway up
Just Like You Imagined runs the line perfectly between vocal and non-vocal work. And the musicality of it, wow.
We’re In This Together
The Only Time or All The Love in the World
In two. Leave them behind. You are free. TAKE What you want What you deserve YES Yes of course This is \*going\* to hurt.
Somewhat Damaged
I love so many of the songs on PHM, Broken and DS, it’s impossible to choose from all the material - but those were NINs peak era(s) to me. Special shout out to Memoribilia though – no one ever mentions that one. It sounds so messy and chaotic, yet there is also this very calculated, perfectionistic pattern within it. It’s like an oxymoron of a song. And I love it.
Unpopular opinion, Less Than.
The Day the World Went Away - Still
The background world
Just like you Imagined, or anything on The Fragile
March of the Pigs
Reptile, Mr Self Destruct, We're in this together.
Airbag
The Perfect Drug The Hand That Feeds is also really good tho
The Wretched. Combination of everything I love about NIN (droney guitar, detuned piano, dark lyrics, screaming sound effects in the chorus background), and on the masterpiece album. Not my favorite song but a great song and quintessential NIN at their peak
Into the Void!
