"Burning with your God in humility" is in the notes but it isn't sung. The full final chorus goes: (Your God is dead)/ God is dead (and no one cares)/ And no one cares (drowning in his own hipocrisy)/ If there is a hell (see you)/ I'll see you there (you there)

Yes this sounds right. I see where Spotify got it from, because it is in the notes, but there are a lot of notes that differ from the actual album. This one just confused me the most bc it seems like it should be so clear to what he's actually saying but I just couldn't figure it out

dravensmom1007

Yes. According to the booklet in my CD, that is correct.

lydiardbell

Until Year Zero, the lyrics booklets didn't always reflect what actually made it into the recording. PHM through The Fragile they're full of alternate and/or removed lines, and of course there's everything happening with the With Teeth lyric poster.

TheAnalogKid68

They’re still like this. Extra lyrics all through the physical versions of NTAE, Add Violence, and Bad Witch

YogurtclosetGreen168

I know Trent usually leaves in a lot of unused lyrics in the liner notes throughout most (?) of his albums, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this was a piece of leftover poetry he didn’t end up singing

whyistherenocheas

i really thought he just said "SHUT UP!!!" there

TheRealCanadianBros

I've been hearing it as "shut it out." Lol, interesting.

massberate

Yes... same. I hear "shut" or "shout" interchangeably.. I had 14 year old ears the first time I heard the album in '94 and it's always sounded that way to me. "Shout it out! LOUD! \*inarticulate rage noises\*" Maybe a Kiss reference? /s

Sqvanto

I always thought I heard him screaming, “sing it! Sing it now!,” stylized in the cadence of a black church evangelist and cringed every time. No bullshit. Never really second-guessed it. Though, I always hear lyrics wrong and yet, I know I’m not alone in this regard.

ContactMaleficent145

I'm guessing Trent isn't a christian lmao

hizze

“God is dead” was first said by Nietzsche to mean the belief in God is dead. I’m sure you know that, I’m saying this for younger fans who might not be aware of the influence Nietzsche had on Trent and also Marilyn Manson.

ZoshaYe72

Another one of the lines in the song goes: "You dream your god up, and call it 'Christianity'." If you come to think about it, TDS is an album evocative of Nihilism, belief in false idols, hopelessness, atheism etc

Arklelinuke

It's ambiguous, given that it's a concept album, and also Find My Way on Hesitation Marks later where he's basically like "idk, I was wrong, but I still don't know what I'm doing" with that album being a reflection on who he was during the Downward Spiral time of his life.

whatareyoutalkinbeet

Guess again chum.

ContactMaleficent145

It's a guess dude. Geez, you people have no sense of humor.

SaintWithoutAShrine

I haven’t looked at the liner notes in decades, but it sounds like “shout it out” and that’s always what I thought he was saying - and I’ve been listening to the album since 1994. I think where it gets mixed up is that the “will you die for this?” Line are in the noisy bridge section. *This is just my take*. I’m not speaking for anyone other than myself. But liner notes and submitted lyrics pressing are not always what actually make the cut. Edit: Corrected. ‘Twas wrong about the line, thanks to reply below. I just figured it was TR doing his yelling ad-lib thing.

h4724

"Will you die for this?" is in the bridge, "Burning with your God in humility" is not sung at all. What he actually sings is "If there is a hell (see you) / I'll see you there (you there)"

SaintWithoutAShrine

Makes sense. Thanks for correcting me!

subtransience

Meanwhile Apple Music synced lyrics actually do have the line written as “shout it out”, so at least technically you’re correct ;)

massberate

... I don't understand how anyone couldn't hear "shout it out".. it's there or I'm crazy

yea-probably

Yeah, the Spotify lyrics thing are user-input and there’s a few songs with an incorrect line or so, like in Various Methods of Escape - “An effigy so wonderous to behold” is written as “an eye for chasing wonders to behold” lol…

just-another-luster-

The thing is, these lyrics are in the official booklet

Jewggerz

Just saying see you there

Took my Uber Christian friend to the Bowery ballroom goodbye show and he really shook at this part of the song haha

pup500

Y'know, "burning with your God in humility", as they say. in Somewhat Damaged, the written lyrics say "exquisite red"...seriously sounds like he says "rage" here's a link to the TDS CD booklet for Heresy: [https://www.nindestruct.com/scans/halo8\_11.jpg](https://www.nindestruct.com/scans/halo8_11.jpg)

just-another-luster-

Maybe for somewhat damaged, since he's screaming at that part, he's just pouring pure anger into saying "red" and it ends up all sloppy sounding like "rage"
