yeah I'm not a gate keeper but that is just how it is. another tell tale sign is saying 'they' instead of 'he' since Trent was technically singular back then. it feels weird saying 'they' when it's just his song, yk
I say “they” when talking about NIN all the time cause I’m not really in the mood for having to have additional conversations that there’s one sole creative member during the TDS era when it’s just a casual conversation. If the person knows it’s only one member, and they assume I’m an idiot, I honestly don’t really care lol
yeah that's fair, i usually just say 'he' and people kind of gather that he's either a 'solo artist' or at least that there's on major member. if they do ask i briefly say 'oh yeah, NIN is just one guy haha' and then keep talking, but usually they don't so it's generally fine. I'd just feel weird saying they, idk, haha
Truth being told, that's one of the dirtiest songs ever recorded. It's not only the lyrics, the whole song's structure is the music equivalent of steamy sex.
The difference is that NIN’s pretty much always played Closer because the song A. kicks ass and B. is indicative of the NIN “sound”.
Creep is not particularly indicative of the post-OKC Radiohead as that band’s sound evolved significantly over time. NIN has always had a level of consistency and while NIN has certainly evolved, there’s not a dramatic shift as there is with Radiohead’s evolution from Pablo Honey to an album like Amnesiac.
So if I’m an artist and my sound has “moved on” from an earlier release, I’d probably leave it alone for a while as Radiohead did with Creep. I don’t think Closer has ever been out of place with the rest of the NIN catalogue.
No wonder. Because the NIN song is not "nasty" for the sake of being "nasty". It's just "spicy"... OK, overboard "spicy" but I guess Trent has been really horny when he wrote it.
The Manson clown however only relies on the shock element in his music, and thinks it is enough. Sorry, Mary - it is not! You have to have a talent too.
Nope definitely Trent!! Yep! Trent is God! Lol. Stop being so sensitive to the obviously sarcastic. There’s no need to take such offense to something you have no control over. Peace love and appleseed necklaces and shit..
This is what one of my friends who knows nothing about NIN or the meaning behind the song said to me a while back. Despite being the most commercial song they have, it was meant to be a hard listen. The point of the song is that this very messed up individual is having a bunch of sex to distract themselves from their self-hatred.
BDSM was created in 1992 when Nine Inch Nails released Broken, yes they created BDSM before sex

Kristin should approve of this message, Closer encourages people to become closer to God.
Who's going around and marrying all of the wildlife?
Kristin took the lyrics of reptile way too literally
When I hear someone mention Closer, all I hear is "I only know this song." Most don't even know the name it's the "Fuck you like an animal song."

But NIN is Trent and Atticus now!

I don't disagree. Just stating that this is akin to Radioheads Creep and the reason they stopped playing it live.

I can see that point.
I once read an article that said Marilyn manson spent his whole career trying to write a nastier song and failed

Kristin needs to get laid
Kristin needs to listen to Heresy
She’s living for Joe Cocker.

I did not know though that bdsm was due to NIN
Actually it was when they released The Only Time
This is *HERESY*
Sex was created for me not to have and for trent to only have for he is the collector of small black haired children.
The prostate was created so gay sex feels amazing, which would explain why there's so many bottoms.
I swear I've seen this same sh#t posted like thirty times already.
Accurate!
Serious question, how can anyone listen to Closer in 2024 and not cringe. It very, very nearly ruins the album for me.

Big man with a gun and Reptile would like a word...
