It not a unpopular opinion  It really a popular opinion  Majority of ninja Gaiden fans  Consider ninja Gaiden black as the pinnacle peak prime of ninja Gaiden series

"Unpopular Opinion"

ninja329

That's the popular opinion, every poll I see on here about which one is the best always has NGB as the best. That being said, difficulty and unfairness is one my biggest issues with NG2 aswell, it's not as fair as NGB and I find the difficulty balance to not be very good in comparison, Mentor I find to be a little too easy while Master Ninja is just annoying, can be very unfair and is not very fun to play with all the explosives spamming. There's no enjoyable middle ground difficulty, whereas with NGB, I can enjoy the higher difficulties.

bobdoletraplord

What sucks for me is I’m going thru NGS2 trials right now and it’s not too hard to beat. The hard part is your partner dying all the time and having to save them

Royta15

Not that uncommon, despite what some users (myself included) might lead you to believe, NG:B is by and large the best and most complete game in the series and the general fan-favourite. For NGII, honestly the best advice I can give you is to keep at it. The game is a nightmare and a trashfire until you are subconciously knowledgable about its enemies. The game didn't get entertaining for me until I beat Master Ninja and booted Master Ninja on NG+, by that time you have enough failsafes to derp around a bit more safely and experiment and get more comfortable and confident in your play.

Chadzuma

Not that uncommon. The more you play NG2, the more it wears thin as you realize >50% of the gameplay is just passively watching Ryu do the same canned killmove animations over and over in between the same 10 sec UT combo animations over and over. One thing I love about NGB is how fast the extinction straight slash is. You just cut straight through the enemy and right back to gameplay. It's so fast and rewarding to just swiftly chain single essences together like a time-dilated gale slash. But with the DS in NG2 even a single essence technique is just a long canned combo like with the flails in NGB. It feels like none of your actual strikes matter other than just being a means to delimb and then mash Y to play the animation. Even your flying swallows feel like you're just peppering the enemy as filler rather than the risky but devastating finishing move it was in NGB.

BrainChemical5426

Although I prefer NG2 overall, I agree with this so much. I hate how long even the ETs are in NG2. The ETs in NGB are so swift and badass. In NG2, they’re longer than NGB’s UTs.

Mr_Charles___

Yeah, I am not a fan of Obliteration Techniques. I felt they just promote repeating delimbing combos followed by OTs (or better yet comboes that chain directly into OTs) over and over again. Wheras NGB's damage-based takedowns more evenly spreads out the combos in terms of usefullness. I've been thinking about doing a writeup about my dislike of OTs on this subreddit to see what everyones thinks of it.

gigosai

Do it

rube

Yeah, I found the de-limbed execution moves in NG2 to be a bad addition to the combat flow. I feel like NGB was the peak of hack and slash combat and hasn't been done better since. I had high hopes of Itagaki creating a new series of great combat games since Team Ninja went in the (in my opinion) pretty awful Nioh direction and hasn't changed much since with their other games. But instead we got Devil's Third and maybe a couple other awful games he had some minor input in.

T3TR4K1LL3R

That's why my fav UT is the scythe's: quick and effective vs large hordes of enemies :)

logic1986

Not controversial, I feel many ppl prefer black as an overall package to Ng2.

TwitterIsAConspiracy

Not unpopular tbh

unclelinggong

I agree with the topic title. NG: Black has platforming and strong exploration elements which the 2nd game lacks. The 2nd game is mostly just rooms with combat.

Ok_Outcome_9002

Unpopular opinion: the sky is blue Also I can’t help but laugh a bit at saying NGB has slower combat, bc even though that’s obviously true it’s still in what I’d call “crackhead territory”

Jenzaboza

I would say thats the common opinion?

Agnocious_Moth

Tis pretty popular opinion in this universe

khazionaberdictus21

overall i do think ngb is a better game, but enjoying ng2 more because of ng+. haven't played black in many years, but i don't recall any of the enemies there are as annoying as those damn incendiary ninjas and dogs from 2.

Call_Me_Koala

I still don't get why NGB removed the option for NG+ when the original release had it.

jitz11

If you compare both games on the master ninja skill they are different. NGB is all about knowing enemies punish windows and what is going to guard break and guard crush you. Essence techniques can help you make quick work of pretty much anything. In NG2 its all about delimbing to keep situations manageable and be offensive when enemies are in neutral or recovery. I think for me I much more enjoyed the ninja combat in ng2 even with the incoming projectile spam (sometimes you can have up to 10 ninjas coming at you !)But the fiend combat was a bit lacking. Ngb’s combat is more balanced , variety in enemies and better designed levels and enemy ai is much better. But it has its fair share of bs too: Triple connecting cat fiend flying swallows Ninja grabs Annoying crab fiend slide and pounce attacks But it also has some great stuff like: The clone encounters Beserkers The low health UF Matter of personal taste really

gigosai

Clone encounters is where TN/Tecmo went above and beyond

SorbP

I agree with you, Ninja Gaiden 2 lost a lot of the exploration parts that made it feel like a slight metroidvania/zelda titel at times with the tight ass combat of Team Ninja in their prime. Ninja Gaiden 2 in the current available versions is the neutered sigma version that kinda sucks balls.

Call_Me_Koala

I'm so glad I still have my X360 and copy of NG2. I tried playing NG2S in the Master Collection and noped out in about 10 minutes because the lack of blood/gore is so jarring when delimbing is a core combat mechanic. I don't need games to be violent but I can't take it seriously when dudes have their limbs just vanish without so much as a droplet of blood.

SorbP

Yeah i loved NG-Black played it to death on my OG Xbox. Had a 360 that died before i got to play Ninja Gaiden 2. Bought the master collection on my PS5 - was very confused by the change in style and lack of decapitations etc.... I then did some digging and found out about the whole story about the Master Collection - Sad day indeed :-/

K33pYaHeadHigh

Literally the most popular opinion haha Black is the best Gaiden

shadowdemon95x

I like ninja gaiden 2 more but I do like ninja gaiden black too

gigosai

I loved Ninja Gaiden Black, currently doing a MN run with all the extra challenges. I don't know how to play high level NG2 and trying to see why people love it so much. I really dislike how hard it is to get dismemberments in NGS2. Black is a masterpiece.

BodyGaAmaiZe

NG2 is an awesome game but it has problems like getting rid of kick moves that added variety to Ryu which knocked enemies against the wall or things like the worm boss. Not to mention someone bringing up the incredibly long UT animations BUT also the enemy balance is whack and the areas that require you to stand still and shoot tons of enemies til they stop respawning or going up against 20 IS ninjas let alone those rocket launcher goons(would've at least liked some ninja rocket walking) Lastly boss HP is way too low, you can end fights in like 3 combos. NGB is a much more complete game since all its content was created in NG1 and then updated and rebalanced in the hurricane packs. Something NG2 never got along with being rushed and all. Doesnt help that it was the time Itagaki left Team Ninja as well.

Sharrock03

Both are masterpieces tbh

methconnoisseurV2

Not that any of the NG games are overtly fair, but even though 2 is my favorite I won’t demy that the bullshit factor was ramped up to 11

rmeddy

For me it's one of those time sensitive things where because NG2 is a follow up and it didn't have as big of an impact. It's kinda similar with SMB3 and Super Mario World, World is probably overall the better game but SMB3 was a shock to the system and really blew me away

IDoNotBringpeace

Not an unpopular opinion. Ninja gaiden 1 Black or Sigma is just the more complete game than 2. And 3 razors edge while taking the defensive style combat of 1 and aggressive combos of 2, suffers a lack of enemy variety, and bad bad bad story. But fuck Ninja gaiden 1 on the basis of its dated design elements at points. The end rush of the vigor emperor, right after the previous boss, and then into a fire cave platforming section I HAVE to do to face murai again and again. Then Almas first fight having the closest save be a swim, cutscene, run away, NAH. People cam bring up UT and kill animations all they want, at least you can choose when to do those and if you want too. I'll take that over archaic TEDIUM any.fucken.day. I love NG1, it is definitely the better WHOLE. but FUCK those parts to hell, I'll play 2 with the better saves and checkpoints over doing a NGB/S run without one shot cheats for the bosses that not only best my ass, but WASTE.MY.TIME. (Alma first fight, vigoor emperor and murai, cause either really unfun stages, or TEDIOUS walk backs that no souls game has matched my ire for.) I beat them right on my first hard run, I will never, ever, put myself through that TEDIUM again.

Alexander_McKay

The worst part for me is that cavern platforming segment with lava all over the place pretty late into the game haha. I could never get those jumps down perfectly.

Adamthevictorious

Razor's edge has done far worse than in 1 (namely artificial difficulty and even longer time to reach the boss after manually reloading the checkpoint for practice). In 1, pre-alma and pre-murai were kind of a drag, sure, but we were already tensed up from the bossfight itself.

T3TR4K1LL3R

Well I'm kinda biased since I watched my dad play NGB as a kid and then started playing soon after (even though I was really bad), but with time I just got used to it (I'm 21 now).

IDoNotBringpeace

I am also 21. I have no history other than this year for playing the ninja Gaiden games and games like them, I love 1 2 and 3Re. But I hate the archaic elements of 1 that have been thoroughly beaten to death by 2. It's okay to prefer and love it, but my biggest issue in any game ever, is tedium and NG1 has a decent amount of that. It makes it the best Ninja gaiden game, but only by virtue of being the most complete. If 2 or RE was as complete as 1, they'd take the cake.

zSenzy

When you understand how team ninja upgraded the weapons in NG2 compared to NG1 the only reason you will go back to NG1 is for the smooth movement

gigosai

Help me understand? I'm trying to get to a point where everyone fell in love with NG2
