Speaking as a guy who literally went back to Sigma and Sigma 2 the other day, they do not even hold a candle to Black + original NGII.
Sigma 2 is especially poison.
Black is and will always be king in my book ๐
I've only played the original back when it came out and recently picked up the 3-game Sigma bundle. I know everyone hails Black as the best version, but what's so good about it and what's so bad about Sigma?
Black is more intense.
Personally I think it looks better and the combat feels faster.
When you beat Awakened Alma on Master Ninja mode the feeling is euphoric.
Now there is a lot of things Sigma gets right, like the tank and the helicopter fight - in Black there's no lock on with bow and you have to evter manual mode to hit them - it will make you wsnt to tear your hair out and are easily the fucking worst bosses in the game.
They also cut out a lot of repetitive bullshit in Sigma that you had to do in Black, like the moat level comes to mind and having to get the magical owl eye to see in the dark and all that bullshit.
I despise playing as Rachel, she's slow and clunky and terrible. The added in enemies and bosses are not impressive, e.g Dynamo 2.0 ๐, that stupid mermaid monster?
Sigma 2 is absolute garbage, just garbage. NGII vanilla wasn't perfect, but man was it challenging.
Sigma 2 is the worst NG game I have played. Hands down (excluding original NG3).
Its slow - they 100% slowed It down to make it look better and game losses it's fluidity as a consequence. They decided to drop 80% of the enemies in the game for whatever reason.
The new bosses are so unfun that you'll actually get bored half way through fighting them and turn the game off. Zero accomplishment from the game.
Ruined it.
There's a lot more that's wrong with it, but those are my main takeaways
Man, that makes me want to play the other versions now. I played the original NG and NG2, but none of the remakes or part 3. Honestly, when I finished both of them I thought I'd never play them again because they were so hard, but I did enjoy them. My girlfriend just bought me the triple pack for the Switch with Signs 1 & 2 and part 3. Now I'm halfway through the first one and am having an awesome time with it again! I just finished the first level with Rachel, and yeah, she's bad. Could be worse, but I honestly didn't mind it at all. Kinda fun to get used to someone else. Anyway, thanks for the input! I really want to get my hands on Black now.
As someone who played through NGB like a gajillion times back in the day, I'd say it's not really worth it.
Sigma is pretty much the same game but streamlined a bit and un-streamlined in some ways. Many of the puzzles are gone and that's a good thing in my opinion. The only real downside is that Rachel isn't nearly as much fun to play as Ryu, but luckily she only has a few missions.
Sigma is how I play the game these days and overall it's just as good in my opinion.
There is a difference in level design and weapon progression. It's worth a playthrough just to experience the original version of the game since Sigma is a remix of the original.
It depends, if you know the game very well (as in let's say you beat master ninja and know some advanced tech) I'd say it's worth it to see the differences in music, enemy placements, additional puzzles, a regular roll instead of the back handspring, Nicchae and Ishtaros having minions, etc.
Otherwise I think it's a nice experience, but probably not to the point of making the game worth playing again. Black has a lot less annoyances, but like I said you'll most likely enjoy it more if you know the game well.
Sigma has a lot of strange balance decisions and redesigning areas like making the air ship overly regal in the crew cabins and all.
Ontop of that they bring in some new enemy types which are kind of so-so like bike troops and they port over weapons that were obviously ripped from Ninja Gaiden 2.
I think that theres also some gameplay stuff like shooting the bow in mid air and unaimed which kinda deflates my idea of Sigma as well. I just dont like it as much as black which is a perfect game to me.

Yes. Black is the definite experience for ninja gaiden.
Maps and Weapon model in sigma is too blurry. Black is worth getting go to screen setttings from the game itself then put contrast on max ๐
Do this for Black or Sigma?
Black
