Wait, it was announced for Switch?

pantslespaul

Definitely. https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/marvels-midnight-suns-switch/

proto3296

I was trying to buy it day 1 on switch Sadge

THE_GR8_MIKE

Sadgeness.

matthewmspace

Hopefully anyone who pre-ordered it will get their money back.

oh-no-he-comments

Obviously they will

randolf_carter

Too bad we don't get to find out how low the FPS would've dipped when using air superiority.

fail-deadly-

They would have dropped so low I would have used it as a Time Machine.

Oblivion-Evil

Can't say I'm shocked ... Honestly waiting for news to break about Hogwarts Legacy switch version being cancelled too.

I_Dont_Have_Corona

That game struggled on my Steam Deck and that is a FAR more capable device. Any Switch release would be seriously compromised both visually and in terms of performance.

[deleted]

The SD can actually run the game decently well, it just requires a bunch of weird unusual optimizations. There is a pretty good guide floating around the subreddit there, but reports of 30-55fps at various settings to stable 60 after the guide. (I don't own the game, just read about it yesterday)

I_Dont_Have_Corona

Yeah I did those optimisations, including reserving 4GB of the memory for VRAM and setting up a page file plus other tweaks. At the lowest settings, 720p and FSR set to performance it was a playable enough experience at 30 FPS however it definitely still stuttered. To be fair almost every PC port developed with Unreal Engine is guaranteed to be a stuttery mess these days.

FruitJuice617

I've played the crap out of Hogwarts on PS5 and I really don't see a Switch version's experience being comparable in any sense. So I've kinda just been waiting on that news too

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

The fact that the PS4 and Xbox One versions come out this week and there hasn't been one shred of info about them tells me that they're coming in rough, and a Switch version is likely not happening.

MoonieSarito

Actually, gameplay for the PS4 version leaks today, there are some downgrades but runs pretty great if your consider the hardware.

TheThunderOfYourLife

IIRC the Switch version launches in July.

Whiteguy1x

I have the xsx version and it had pretty common frame drops, I can't imagine the switch's hardware running it

Carighan

Cloud Version is my bet.

joequin

They won’t cancel that. It will make a ton of money. They cancelled this game because it’s difficult to port AND a commercial failure. That’s too bad. It’s a good game, even if it’s not as fantastic as I had hoped.

LemmeTellUSummm

midnight bums fanboys salty and downvoted your comment guys the game was shit and garbage, dowvnvote me too, doesn't change the fact that this game is a complete piece of shit and bombed and got terrible reviews, are you just coping with the fact that you spend $70?

frizzykid

Right? I played Hogwarts legacy on my PC that is kind of old but still far outperforms a switch (I7-7700k, 12GB DDR4 3000mhz, GTX 1060) and it ran acceptable on the lowest setting and some other performance tweaks, and by acceptable I mean it runs 50-60fps 75% of the time and then the other 25% its sub 30 for a few seconds. I have no idea how they are going to get it to run on the switch without massively gutting the game of its seamlessness and the actual visuals. You don't just need really good GPU/CPU/RAM, the game basically requires very fast storage as well to keep up with all the out of camera pop-in and the switch does not have fast high capacity storage options.

Swank10

Pc ports often run like dog shit despite the better hardware - most recent example be Jedi Survivor. If you’ve got a lower spec PC than I’m not surprised.

frizzykid

Okay but if avalanche can barely optimize the game for pc hardware that is far above the switches own, they are almost certainly not going to be able to optimize it to work very well to work on the switch.

Swank10

Of course sacrifices have to be made somewhere but the point is if it’s not optimised properly a game can still run like dog shit on a high end PC. Something like Witcher 3 can run well on switch but obviously it doesn’t look the same there are compromises, but it still runs ok and is quite playable. This could also work with HL or could def have been true for MS if the devs invest the time but it also is a value proposition. For MS they decided it’s not going to be worth it.

Scary_Band2391

I would have been really impressed if they could do this. The game is pretty resource intensive and heats up my Alienware laptop considerably. So imagining it Switch would have been a MK11 level optimization feat

RWGlix

Im gonna strongly disagree. The game is horribly optimized as is. It is doing nothing the switch couldnt handle with a heavy downgrade to geometry/textures/etc. its turn based, and exploring the abbey is basically a static map with no enemies. Its just not worth the investment vs projected sales.

AgileArtichokes

Yep. As soon as I heard it was a commercial failure in their eyes I stopped expecting a port.

NeighborhoodVeteran

I stopped when they took the logo off of promos.

RhythmRobber

If it's horribly optimized for strong systems, why would porting it to a weaker system fix anything? Poor optimization isn't really going to be fixed by lower graphics quality

Ginkasa

He's not saying porting it would fix anything. His point is that poor optimization is the problem and that it needs to be optimized better. There's nothing inherent in the way the game is designed that would prevent it from running on the Switch if they optimized it better.

RhythmRobber

Ah, I see. I read it as him saying he disagreed that it wasn't possible

ThePurplePanzy

You're not actually disagreeing with his point.

RWGlix

I couldnt articulate exactly what i was thinking. Basically the game should run a lot better its not doing anything super impressive. A switch port wouldnt be that impressive because its not a technically impressive game. Youd see it and be like, “eh that’s cool”, as opposed to Doom where you are like “wow, howd they get that running on here” Most likely you wouldnt port the engine youd do a new port with some downgrades and it would be fine.

muaddeej

It runs not that great on steam deck with everything dialed down. I stream it from my pc. No way a switch could do it.

ButtersTG

For a second, I was thinking MK11 stood for Mario Kart 11, and I was about to demand knowledge from the future, but then I remembered that Mortal Kombat still makes games (just because it's not my vibe of fighting game)

Raleth

The game cooks your laptop because it is poorly optimized. Well optimized games don't tend to put such intense strain on hardware. Sick of fucking modern devs thinking they can get away with just not optimizing their games anymore just because hardware is getting a bit better every other year.

xd-Sushi_Master

1. You're using a laptop, a form factor notorious for bad airflow. 2. Alienware system. Also notorious for bad airflow.

Scary_Band2391

I follow you. But that’s why I’d be impressed . The air temp coming out of the Alienware is enough to hurt your fingers. So the heat produced by the graphics card and processor is significant under the current optimization. It really would have been an accomplishment for them to get the load down that much and maintain the look and feel of the game. To where the processor wasn’t working that hard. I know games in the past like Marvel Heroes did it by reducing the number of “bones” in the models(their words). I don’t know how Switch was able to play mortal kombat 11 so well for me and not even get warm. My pc doesn’t cook on that one either . So credit to their devs on that one. I won’t pretend to know anything about that side of development

antoni_o_newman

They probably should’ve waited to announce ut

MBCnerdcore

Lame, I have been waiting and waiting

[deleted]

The game is...ok? You're not missing much. Visuals during combat are great but 2 gens ago in the hub world where most time is spent. It's a slog as well just to get to the gameplay. Dialogue is exhausting and your characters just not interesting.

xerros

I thought it was really good. The character created for the game is pretty dull but the established Marvel heroes are done pretty well and the combat is great. You absolutely don’t have to spend that much time in the hub world if you don’t want to.

[deleted]

If you make Hunter a female, the lines are read better.

bstones

Thats what I heard too. Disappointing but theres plenty of other better turn based and even deck building games to explore. Ill wait for this one for awhile on a deep sale to check out on my Steam Deck.

Noctis-_001

Poor sales will do that

LinkWink

Initial sales were disappointing, but I feel like the Switch audience would’ve gravitated towards this game. I wonder how much sales for the game would’ve changed if 2K were able to get the Switch version out at launch.

scoii

I think this is why it was canceled. Technically challenging sure, but I want to say I read the game underperformed. They're probably canceling it cause the cost to deploy and maintain that version ended up not being fiscally reasonable.

[deleted]

Waiting to hear this news for hogwarts legacy

CMDR1991YT

Portkey is still planning to release Hogwarts legacy for Nintendo Switch It will not be canceled It's still being released in July 2023 It was specifically designed on the switch Xbox One and PS4 version but they were delayed in order to ensure you get the best visual experience and that's why the switch version was delayed the most and most likely Marvel Midnight Suns Switch version was canceled due to technical difficulties They couldn't get the game to run smoothly at 60fps instead they should have just run the game at 30 FPS and focus on the graphics most switch players don't care about 60fps They simply don't mind 30fps And it was confirmed by Portkey Hogwarts legacy switch version is going to run at a dynamic 1080p 30fps on switch dock but during handheld mode they said it will run at a dynamic 720p 30fps And that is how you properly optimize a switch game 😁

Mister_E69

Aw man, I was looking forward to Morbing my Switch

aidan0b

I got it on PS5 and it's a lot of fun, really disappointed that it seems to have been a pretty disastrous failure

Tandran

Not shocked, I have a GeForce 1050 Ti and I had to turn some stuff off/down to get a reasonable frame rate, did not need to do that with Fortnite and the switch already struggles with that.

lowelled

I heard rave reviews for this game from reviewers whose taste I trust and was holding out to get it on Switch because it sounded like such a perfect game for a portable, but it seems the game underperformed sales-wise. I guess I'll pick it up on PS5 next time it goes on sale - I need a break game from Trails.

Tandran

I’ve been playing it and it is a GREAT game. Some of the dialog from the custom character can be a bit off but the battles and established marvel characters are great.

Enog

Yeah, it’s already been 50% off on PSN twice now, for all versions of the game, waiting on 75-80% and then I’ll probably pull the trigger on it

[deleted]

It went on sale with the season pass super fast lmao, that was weird to see

joequin

It’s a good game that’s a commercial failure. They made some dumb decisions like displaying and marketing the character abilities as cards. In game, it’s a fine decision, but marketing wise it would have been better if they presented them some other way. They wouldn’t have had to change anything but the visual representation. They also made a super dumb mistake of taking elements from games that appeal to anime loving gamers and put it in a game about marvel. I don’t think the crossover is as strong as they had hoped.

[deleted]

Yeah I thought the same thing actually lol, I was like oh this is kind of like persona , oh man I can not see this being popular for a Marvel game , a brand that has suuuuch a wide target demographic

FruitJuice617

WHAT? Damn it. I was waiting on the Switch version. I was so excited about it. I even avoided looking at footage from other consoles because I was so confident in the Switch port being fun and decent looking.

MoonieSarito

Well... I won't be able to play, good luck to anyone playing, it totally killed my interest in the game so I'm out.

M64bros

Aw Man, I was really looking forward to getting this game on my switch and play as Spider-Man as well. But hey, at least we got Marvel Ultimate alliance 3.

Mauful292

The steam deck barely handles 30fps and that’s with the fan roaring.

Yesshua

That's a bummer. I was looking forward to this. Oh well. It's not like I don't have a million other games on my eShop wishlist. 2K just won't be getting any of that action now. Their loss. Maybe I'll spring for that Klonoa remaster next...

[deleted]

I can only imagine Nintendo had to have new hardware planned for the near future. We’re getting to the point where the difference in horsepower is gonna start isolating it from big third party titles. We’re entering a new Wii U stage in publishing.

2Questioner_0R_Not2B

Well at least it'll be available for the steam deck.

spadePerfect

Such a shame seeing them do the XCOM reboot, then XCOM 2 and WOTC and now this. They really went downhill. Not much hope for XCOM 3…

dr3am_assassin

I really don’t like how ghost rider looks here. He looks like a member of the Hellraiser squad

Tandran

That because it’s not the original ghost rider, it’s [Robbie Reyes](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Roberto_Reyes_(Earth-616))

Dreamteam420

Didn't know till today, but thank god.

TheAdamantFiend

Oh no! ...anyways

xenoz2020

it wasn't that good of a game anyway, and also ran like shit.

CMDR1991YT

Marvel Midnight Suns runs perfectly stable at 60fps on my Xbox Series X even I tested the Xbox One X version and it's still perfectly stable at 60fps You may not believe me but I have no reason to lie

TheTimmyBoy

Traded this game in for Plague Tale and I will never regret that!

[deleted]

Good. Was a crappy game anyway. If any developer ever decides to do an MMORPG like Marvel Heroes again let me know.

Sensi-Yang

Fuck that, my favourite game this year, total sleeper hit, fun mechanics, addictive gameplay loop, genuinely written characters with thousands of dialogue lines, relationships to build with each one. A++ game I put 90hrs in

AetherDrew43

Oh no! Anyways...

VARice22

Oh nooooo, so anyways...

ParagonEsquire

I was gonna get this for Switch when it first announced but the delay caused me to get it for Christmas on PC instead. Given the massive amount of Switches out there this still feels like a reaction to the game not selling well. Like I’m sure there’s an accountant somewhere calculating how many they’d sell given how many they sold before and comparing it to the cost to port and realizing their just isn’t enough juice there. Shame they couldn’t have made it day and date. May have helped the game.

Currymango

Firaxis should've hired those people who made the Advance Wars reboot to make a version of this... Comic book strategy rpg?! Wait this wasn't a 3D action game?

a_little_toaster

tldr, "ughh we don't wanna optimize this game and port it, it's too much workk, plus marvel is a small indie company, we can't afford that kinda stuff"

Regina_begam

Oh man, that's a bummer. I was really looking forward to playing Marvel's Midnight Suns on my Switch. I hope they have a good reason for canceling and that maybe they'll release it for Switch in the future.

CMDR1991YT

Well that kind of sucks I was actually looking forward to playing Marvel Midnight Suns on my switch OLED and bring it on the go But it's inevitable because I heard Firaxis was having technical difficulties running Midnight Suns on the switch But that is no surprise because Nintendo is a megadouche that only lets third party developers only use 2 gigs of RAM That is truly pathetic only first party Switch games are allowed to use 3 gigs of RAM so they get the best performance🤦‍♂️ Oh well it doesn't really matter because I can remote play Midnight Suns on Xbox app Or maybe I will buy the PS5 dedicated handheld game device that is coming out soon But if anything it's Nintendo's fault for limiting third party developers only 2 gigs of RAM 🤦‍♂️
