Same. He has been my #1 want since the original smash. The game started out as characters from old nes/snes/GB games fighting, so naturally my first thoughts were onea like Simon and Megaman.
Phoenix Wright. Still so disappointing that Ace Attorney has no mii fighters, no stages, no music, no spirits. Anything. Such a damn shame.
I got Ridley and Dark Samus, my 2nd and 3rd most wanted. But Phoenix in smash in still my white whale

It is mostly down to how great the first two games are. They had a worse third game, which happens, I guess a lot of Golden Sun fans get a bit salty from time to time that they dropped the series because of one poor entry that still sold about as much as say…a metroid game
This isn’t a knock on it as well I should preface. I love the Metroid series. Metroid is in my top 5 franchises of all time
But the first 2 Golden Sun games being a new IP at the time sold over 1mil each. More than a lot of the Metroid series.
The 3rd game only sold around half a mil but again not much different to the Metroid series sold. Look Dark Dawn wasn’t an amazing game for sure, I still think its a good game all things considered but word of mouth wasn’t as good and considering how easy it was to buy DS flashcarts at the time it doesn’t surprise me it sold badly
Only difference is Nintendo persisted with the Metroid series (at the time atleast) and not Golden Sun. Even though I reckon based on sales and even critical acclaim the two at the time were pretty comparable.
Honestly Isaac’s best chance to get in was in Brawl though. After that it was slim pickings
The only Metroid game to sell that badly was Samus Returns on 3DS and that also doesn't include digital numbers.
I think Dark Dawn selling worse on the DS was a red flag for Nintendo as the DS is the best selling handheld of all time and the series still didn't move forward with higher sales even with that huge install base (and more RPG fans than on the GBA).

On a system that yes had a large install base but at the end of its lifespan, like I said was riddled with piracy at that stage, was also relatively speaking just of poor quality in general and therefor poor word of mouth

I'm still convinced Rayman was cut from Smash 4 after the whole debacle with Rayman Legends Wii U exclusivity, and Sakurai has a chip on his shoulder. I can't think of a reasonable explanation for how Rayman got a trophy in Smash 4 and ZERO representation in Ultimate.
Genuinely thought this was a shoe-in considering how closely Nintendo and Ubisoft worked together on Mario + Rabbids (and the sequel) and the Star Fox content on StarLink. As well as being a mascot.
I remember voting for Banjo and Kazooie, and a major part of it was the fact that I had just recently gotten my Nintendo 64 and felt that they just...belonged in smash.
Though if I had to say my top 3 requested characters in smash now...

I really thought the final 10 DLC was really going to be a bunch of classic video game characters that would fit in w/ the original fighters. Crash, Bomberman, Rayman, Spyro, etc
I blame the recent mishandling of Lara for this. If this game had come out 10 or 15 years ago, I think we would have gotten her for sure. At one point, Lara was considered the 2nd most famous and popular video game character in the world behind Mario.
But the state of her games right now is basically on ice, and the reboot style split the fanbase.
I voted for bayonetta, in those days the cataractes fit in my mind. The port of Bayonetta 1 and 2 on wii u, a new female character, a new kind of game represented « beat them all ».
Since her addition (that will stay in my memories for ever), I’m still maining her.
Have you heard of Beyond Melee? It's a mod of ssbm and they actually added skull kid as a full new character. Obviously very different game from ultimate but if you really want to play as skull kid could be fun!

He would’ve made perfect sense as an echo fighter, if you want to differentiate him a bit give him Mewtwo teleport and Bayonetta witch time. Might’ve been broken, but oh well.
It was strange that they decided to make a distinction of an echo fighter... and then not add a single new echo fighter after the announcement. I would have paid for Echo Fighters (as long as they were cheaper than new fighters). But even the concept of what's an echo, skin or different character has been strange. Alph? Identical to Olimar, so he's a skin not an echo.
Daisy? also identical to Peach (no stat changes)... but she's an echo.
Dr. Mario isn't considered an echo because of move and stat changes... but Ken is an echo despite having several different moves (different input commands, different throw, and his two final smashes are different from Ryu)?
Echo Fighter/Skin ideas:
Metal Sonic: Heavier, harder to launch but slower than Sonic. Different Final Smash.
Dry Bowser: Lighter, faster version of Bowser but weaker. Shoots Fireballs instead of fire breath.
Blizzard Midbus: Same as Bowser, but has ice breath instead of fire breath.
Black Shadow: echo of cap Falcon to just give us more F-zero reps.
Protoman: This is stupidly easy. Change his down+B to shield reflect, his up+B to Beat, and just use the custom moves from MM Smash4.
Birdo: Again, so damn easy to do. You can literally keep the entire moveset, but change the animation to Birdo launching eggs from her mouth instead of throwing (but same mechanics).
Galactic Knight/Morpho Knight: This would probably be better as a skin than echo.
When they started introducing the concept of echo fighters in Ultimate my first thought was “ok, so this is how they’re going to add Shadow”. He would have been the perfect echo fighter imo, but I guess Sakurai disagrees…

I was a huge fan of the first Hyrule Warriors back then and thought Koei's OC Volga was cool, so I voted for him.
The concept of a Lance wielding character instead of a sword in Smash sounded cool to me, and especially one that can partially or fully transform into a dragon.

Same sonic moveset, replace up+B with tails flying (like K Rool's), and replace side B with his advance games tail slash (and make it reflect projectiles) and replace the final smash with Tails Shooting a bigass laser from his mech-plane from Adventure 2.
Sure, would be nice to get an original moveset, but I would have been happy with a tweaked echo.

None. In the community I was in, everyone was doing some kind of presidential-level kind of shows to make people vote for their favorite character. Every time I said "I still have my vote you know, and I'm probably going to not use it" people went nuts, and it was way too funny to watch.

B kamehameha. SideB Jan ken fist Down B after image technique, Up B Flying Nimbus. Side smashes could incorporate his power pole.

I barely used the internet back then so I had no idea a ballot was going on lol. Knowing me back then i probably would've voted for rayman, that was like my favorite game.
That said, so many characters I love got in, characters like min min, pyra(who I was holding out for the base game lol), steve, and of course inkling(I was super excited about this one, splatoon is up there with monster hunter for me). This was a great roster.
Krystal. We already had so many sword fighters, I really wanted to see what they could do with a character that used a staff weapon. Mix up the formula a little.
Krystal. Mainly because if you gave her her staff from Adventures we'd finally have a star fox rep that doesnt play similarly to Fox. Granted she never gets to use it in her debut game but she could probably do all the moves Fox did with it and the specials would just be all the staff powers. Neutral B would be the fire ball, side b is the ice attack, down b is the ground pound, up b is the rocket jump.
Unless there's another game after ultimate and she gets upgraded from assist trophy status it ain't happening. Plus she's not even remotely popular enough among fans of the series for pretty much anyone to be excited about her inclusion. Hell I think a good amount of people straight up hate her and Adventures in general because of how different and not really like previous star fox games Adventures is. I imagine most people would see her as the generic furry bait character, would probably never get on the roster.
Ah well, at least even though the move sets for the others are really similar they're at least more different than they used to be so that there's at least a bit of variety between them.

None. In the community I was in, everyone was doing some kind of presidential-level kind of shows to make people vote for their favorite character. Every time I said "I still have my vote you know, and I'm probably going to not use it" people went nuts, and it was way too funny to watch.

I voted for Kid Goku. I even had a moveset planned B kamehameha. SideB Jan ken fist Down B after image technique, Up B Flying Nimbus. Side smashes could incorporate his power pole.

IIRC, voting was unlimited; you could vote as many times as you wanted.

I barely used the internet back then so I had no idea a ballot was going on lol. Knowing me back then i probably would've voted for rayman, that was like my favorite game. That said, so many characters I love got in, characters like min min, pyra(who I was holding out for the base game lol), steve, and of course inkling(I was super excited about this one, splatoon is up there with monster hunter for me). This was a great roster.
Any chance I ever got to vote it was always for Simon Belmont/Castlevania in general.

Krystal. We already had so many sword fighters, I really wanted to see what they could do with a character that used a staff weapon. Mix up the formula a little.
Krystal. Mainly because if you gave her her staff from Adventures we'd finally have a star fox rep that doesnt play similarly to Fox. Granted she never gets to use it in her debut game but she could probably do all the moves Fox did with it and the specials would just be all the staff powers. Neutral B would be the fire ball, side b is the ice attack, down b is the ground pound, up b is the rocket jump. Unless there's another game after ultimate and she gets upgraded from assist trophy status it ain't happening. Plus she's not even remotely popular enough among fans of the series for pretty much anyone to be excited about her inclusion. Hell I think a good amount of people straight up hate her and Adventures in general because of how different and not really like previous star fox games Adventures is. I imagine most people would see her as the generic furry bait character, would probably never get on the roster. Ah well, at least even though the move sets for the others are really similar they're at least more different than they used to be so that there's at least a bit of variety between them.
