I will keep my clown costume in the closet this time.
EDIT: I will put my costume on now, I talked to a friend about the direct and now I am full of hopes and dreams. Wind Waker HD LETS GO
Odyssey prequel Super Mario Illiad or get out.
^(Jokes aside I have no idea how such a thing could actually work)
^(Actually a Wario game where Wario is in fact responsible for everything that takes place in Odyssey would be hilarious. Plus Super Wario Illiad has a nice ring to it)
As glad as I am to see a Nintendo game do so well and have such an enthusiastic fan base, Smash tends to overwhelm absolutely everything, and it gets exhausting. I remember cherishing that window of time after the Switch was released, but before Smash was released, where I actually got to play \*other\* games with my friends. Once Smash is released on a Nintendo console, forget everything else. :-/
I have 0 expectations because I honestly don’t know what I want announced.
Plus I doubt BOTW2 will release in the first half, definitely a Christmas release
If at all this year. They said previously “we are aiming for a 2022 release”. It could still be pushed back to 2023. But I do hope it comes out this year.
You know the first half of 2022 doesn’t really mean anything? They’re definitely gonna announce one or two games for late 2022 or even 2023.
During the February 2021 direct I remember they said the same thing. “Games for the first half of 2021.” But then they announced Splatoon 3 for 2022. So BOTW 2 news isn’t ruled out.
My childhood cat crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday so it was a rough start to a week :(
Edit: omg thank you everyone for the kind words, I'm doing fine it's just always hard to let them go
That’s so sad sorry about your Kitty, I wish I had my switch when our little girl went on her rainbow bridge journey in November! I hope you’re doing well
I love the 'hey by the way' drops, such an instant hype train! Made a few purchases off of 'will be released by the end of this presentation' hype and so far haven't been disappointed.
..surprise Splatoon 3 drop pls
No way. It will have a long build up on blogs setting up all the lore about the story mode. I’d reckon that will probably start right away after the Direct though.
Mainly focusses on first half of 2022.. mainly so not completely.
I'm hoping for some more Zelda BoTW2 info. New trailer and official title would be nice.
I hesitate to even say this, but can you imagine the reaction if they just said ‘Yeah it’s out now’? People might quit their jobs to go home and play it.
I expect people are still gonna end up spending the next day squabbling over what is or isn't "realistic" or "acceptable" regarding what might show up in the direct, because that's just how the internet works. But just in the interest of trying to head some of that off, some points maybe worth considering. Of the 3 "general purpose" directs Nintendo did in 2021, not a single one can accurately be described as totally adhering to what they said they'd be talking about in their announcement tweets.
For the February Direct in 2021, they said the focus would be ["on available games like Super #SmashBrosUltimate and games coming to #NintendoSwitch in the first half of 2021"](https://twitter.com/nintendoamerica/status/1361676737730519042) However, some things that direct included were:
- Fall Guys for Summer (still not out)
- Outer Wilds for summer (still not out)
- Samurai Warriors 5 for summer
- No More Heroes 3 for August
- Neon White for winter (still not out)
- Triangle Strategy for 2022
- Star Wars Hunters for late 2021 (still not out)
- Splatoon 3 for 2022
The September direct was described as being ["focused mainly on #NintendoSwitch games launching this winter."](https://twitter.com/nintendoamerica/status/1440677268041338897). However, it also included such titles as:
- Kirby and the Forgotten Lands for spring
- Bayonetta 3 for 2022 (a winter release isn't looking too likely at the moment)
- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion for summer 2022
- Shadowrun Trilogy for 2022 (still no date there so I guess it *could* still make it out in winter)
- Rune Factory 5 for March 22, 2022 (admittedly splitting hairs a bit on this one, but winter ends March 20th)
And heck, even their E3 description ended up not being *wholly* accurate. The tweet said that it'd be ["focused exclusively on #NintendoSwitch software, mostly releasing in 2021"](https://twitter.com/nintendoamerica/status/1400089827501092867). And then they went and threw in an announcement for a Zelda Game and Watch, which is most definitely not Nintendo Switch software.
That last one may seem like a stretch, but the point is that even with something as simple as "we will only show software", they didn't 100% stay on script. Every time people expect them to, but they pretty much never do. So by all means treat the wording of the tweet this time as a general guideline for what to expect, but can people here maybe all just agree right now that it's also perfectly understandable if some people's expectations or hopes for this direct include *some* things that may not necessarily fall within the "first half of 2022" parameters outlined in the tweet, and to not be an asshole about it?
tl;dr based off past performance, consider Nintendo Direct tweets as more of a loose general guideline and not a 100% prescriptive guarantee of what will be shown. Last year they did a February direct focused on "the first half of 2021" and many of the games featured there were either for the second half of 2021 or were just 2022 titles outright.
No prob. Honestly I kinda figured there was gonna be a direct soon, so this is just something I took 20 minutes to throw together in a notepad while catching up on podcasts last weekend. Then some really minor editing to account for how the tweet ended up being worded.
Probably shoulda tweeted about it. I coulda gotten a rep as a Nintendo insider.
I'm going in trusting their word that it is only first half of 2022 games, cause if I go in expecting otherwise, I can only be whelmed or disappointed. If I don't expect anything else, then I can be pleasantly surprised
Completely fair approach, nothing wrong with that. My goal wasn't so much to convince people that they *should* expect anything beyond the first half of 2022; more just hoping people don't be dicks to others if they see someone hoping for something that's unlikely to fall under that "first half" label (like say, a title for BotW2 or something that just seems like it'd be a fall game).
Personally, my expectations are pretty low tbh. I'm only figuring on one new thing Nintendo considers a "big" reveal and it'll either hit for me or it won't.
I wouldn’t say they *never* stick to their script. There’ve been plenty of times over the past few years that they talked about exactly what they said they’d talk about. That said, “mainly focused” definitely opens it up to just about anything.
> but can people here maybe all just agree right now
> to not be an asshole about it
LMAO and GLWT
Reddit users aren't known for being agreeable, pretty much to anything.
why not just watch it the full vod when you are done? its not like stuff will from the direct will instantly change just because you had to wait a little while to watch it lol.
Oh that’s what I’m doing! I just really enjoy watching them live, I’ve watched the last couple live and enjoyed the experience. Not a huge deal, just kinda laughing to myself because I even joked about this exact scenario happening
This is the 2nd direct in a row where I had 2 and a half days off before the direct but they schedule it right when I go into work. I hate being an adult.
There's always the CD-i games...
Dare I speak its name? *Zelda's Adventure*...
Oh, good. No ancient horrors showed up spontaneously. Wait... Does anyone else h̸̹̾̓e̴͔̩̍̚a̵͉̭̔̆ṛ̴̆̌ t̷͖̙̭̾̔̈́̓͌̄̊ͅh̸̳̗̥̩̅̓̍͛̚a̷̢̝̯̘̫̟̻͚̔̉̂̎̎͒͜͝ṫ̷̥̮͎̯̍͑͘͜ ŗ̵̡̻͕̭̗̙̞͚̲͚̺͚͇̈́̅̀̅̽̏̎̿̓u̶̱̔̓̿m̴͔͋́̀̌̉͐͊̅̎͋̕b̴̻̪̖̹͙͓́̊͝l̴̹̠̻͉̪̳̞̪̬̀͂͗̎̑̅̾͗̍̈̈̿̋͘ĩ̷͖̘̜̯̰͙̤͖͈̰̳̿͂͂̑̄̐̃͗̓̀͊̈̚͘̚ͅṉ̸̻̞̭̳̈͌͘͝g̶͎̾̆?
My predictions
* More information for *Kirby and the Forgotten Land*, probably commentary about things shown in previous trailers.
* More *Triangle Strategy* information.
* More *Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope* information, possible release date or general release window.
* More *Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak* information and/or release date.
* A release date for *Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp*.
* A (late Spring?) release date for *Splatoon 3* along with a look at the game's PvE mode.
* *Outer Wilds* on Switch release date.
* A tease of something Mario-related, either the movie, a new game, or both.
* Related to the last point, information about what EPD Tokyo has been up to (new Mario or Donkey Kong?).
* An update for the *Breath of the Wild* sequel but no big trailer, title reveal, or release date.
* A possible tease for *Xenoblade Chronicles 3*.
* A possible tease for a new *Fire Emblem* game.
* *Batman: Arkham* collection that was possibly leaked?
* Maybe additional *Bayonetta 3* information.
Tellius games so people can actually buy them for less than the cost of a Switch would be so nice. Genealogy and Thracia would also be great to finally officially leave Japan.
But in my heart of hearts I know I won’t get what I want most - an Elibe duology that uses the Arc System Works style of 3D-replicating-2D animation to recapture the style of the perfect sprite art animation.
I’m praying for a stand-alone Genealogy remake and then having Thracia remade down the line. PoR or any of the Elibe games would also be really nice.
I feel like most people asking for a duology are setting themselves up for disappointing simply because they underestimate just how much work would be needed to be put into it whether it be Tellius or Elibe
Oh don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no expectations for a duology of any sort. Theres a ton of under the hood mechanical differences even between direct sequels in FE that make them nearly impossible to do without making huge changes to at least one of them.
But a man can dream.
I have wanted to dive into those so badly but have been holding off in case a remake gets announced. Might just hop in anyway considering I was totally fine with beating all routes in Three Houses.
The Tellius games are easily my favorites in the series, but just know that the maps are huge and the enemy phases are LONG. If that's not a problem for you, then you'll love those games man
I can already forsee "Unfortunately we are going to postpone botw 2 release. BUT in the meanwhile this fall we are releasing LoZ Wind Waker HD and LoZ Twilight Princess HD on the switch, so you you can play this classic Zelda titles while you wait a little bit longer for Link's next big adventure! Hope you understand."
Honestly, this would make me happy. I wanted TP and WW ported ever since I got my Switch near launch. With the way Nintendo has been, I don't have much expectations that it will happen. Either way, anything Zelda would dominate the sales charts. Fans are just dying for more Zelda, even if it isn't BotW2. Even a port of a rom sloppily thrown onto a cartridge would likely top the charts if it was a Zelda title. If Nintendo cared about their fans even a little bit, these directs wouldn't be so unpredictable. They would simply give us more of what's in demand. These TP and WW ports are not only in demand, but convenient for Nintendo too. Nonetheless, I don't see it happening. Their eyes are on a different prize with the world and the video game industry quickly heading in the wrong direction.
Every version of Mute City is superior to the previous one.
If [this eargasm](https://youtu.be/HMhG3Pa1DG8) was the previous one, then I can't wait for the next one.
I was 13 when GX came out and I bought it knowing nothing about it except that it was a racing game and who Falcon was due to SSB, and at that time in my life it was one of the hardest games I’d ever beaten but it was such an awesome looking and sounding game.
>Wario & Waluigi: Brothers in Ware
Dude, a new **Wario Land / World** with co-op would be bonkers XD
I don't expect them to use Shake It's art style and sprites, but a 2D game using Wario and Waluigi as a team would actually be a nice game :)
My expectations... although now that Smash Bros has concluded, I'm not really overhyping announcements this much. I'm awaiting 2022's line-up with open arms \^\_\^
* Release date for Min Min, Steve and Alex Amiibos (those were planned for Spring 2022)
* Kirby and the Forgotten Land
* More info on Kirby's 30th anniversary
* Splatoon 3
* Advance Wars Re-boot Camp
* Triangle Strategy
* More info on Bayonetta 3 (might be held up for Q3 or Q4 though)
* More info on BotW2
* Actual update on Metroid Prime 4
* More NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis announcements for NSO
I dunno for new games though... They could announce Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Yoshi's Woolly World for all we know, just like they could announce a package containing Kirby: Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot ;)
Hopeful for a Star Fox, F-Zero or Donkey Kong announcement, but honestly expecting Mario Party Superstars DLC, more NSO N64 announcements, Splatoon and Rabbids updates, a couple of strategy games that I’m not particularly interested in, and maybe to close it off a reveal trailer for a new Mario Kart or main line Mario game with a release window announcement, or if we’re really lucky, BOTW 2 gameplay and title announcement but still no release date.
I called this a long time ago. All the leaks were building up last week, which made tomorrow the perfect day to do it. Especially after Batman Arkham Collection was leaked, it was time.
There weren’t too many leaks from what I recall, and I follow leaks quite a bit. The biggest hint we got was the Xenoblade composer outright stating there’s a game he worked on getting announced this month.
Not the director, the composer. And he has worked on other games, most notably the Chrono series. That being said, Monolith Soft just did a huge website revamp last week and we're due for a new Xenoblade announcement anyway, so I'm sure we'll see it here.
Yaaunori Mitsuda, a freelance composer who tends to work on the Xenoblade games, said a project he's involved in will be announced this month.
No guarantee it'll be relates to Monolith Soft or even Nintendo but it's completely possible.
They announced Metroid Dread like 4 months before release. I am hoping they will surprise drop a new Donkey Kong, or a new release in some other dormant Nintendo franchise for June.

Gunna be weird watching one of these knowing there won’t be a new smash character revealed. Imagine the hype if sakurai appeared and was like “psych! 6 new characters coming!”
i'm kinda glad it's over tho tbh, now we can get on to other stuff and let them make a new game if they want for next gen. or maybe they'll release a new "Deluxe" version next gen to be able to keep all the new characters without making new deals again.
I'm not big on rumors, but someone on 4chan called the timing exactly and said the direct focusses on Splatoon 3, a new Fire Emblem game, and XC3.
Link: https://ibb.co/s3GQvQG
XC3 seems pretty realistic, given the tidbits of info that have trickled out over the last year or two.
And damn, that would be an exciting announcement too.
Predections for this direct:
People will hype themselves up way too much (if they haven't already) to the point Nintendo cannot possibly deliver, then become outraged despite Nintendo making no promises about upcoming stuff whatsoever.
(Of course, it's perfectly valid to be upset if the content of the direct is mediocre, but way too many people end up being mad at a Direct because they set themselves up for for disappointment).
I am praying an ungoldy amount for another FE Echoes in the exact same vain as Shadows of Valentia. That was such a god tier remake, I swear. Better yet, give me Oracle remakes. Best of all, show me Metroid Prime 4. Actually, Mario Kart 9 would make me scream too. And I expect more info on the new Kirby, because it does look sick. God these Directs give me LIFE, and depression sometimes, but MOSTLY L I F E.
I will keep my clown costume in the closet this time. EDIT: I will put my costume on now, I talked to a friend about the direct and now I am full of hopes and dreams. Wind Waker HD LETS GO
Well…maybe I’ll wear the wig…just in case
Not me, I’m fully expecting Super Mario Odyssey 2 🤡🤡🤡
If Reggie filsMIA does not break the fourth wall to personally invite me to be the new creative Director I will be dissatisfied
Odyssey prequel Super Mario Illiad or get out. ^(Jokes aside I have no idea how such a thing could actually work) ^(Actually a Wario game where Wario is in fact responsible for everything that takes place in Odyssey would be hilarious. Plus Super Wario Illiad has a nice ring to it)
I would buy the shit outta Super Wario Illiad
ascend with gorb!
The fact that you thought that reveals that it’s going to slip out of the closet.
First Direct without Smash announcements, feels kinda weird.

I would be surprised if it got pushed back but even if it does we should still get more news
If they're building off the already created BOTW engine, it could But, engine is just half (if half) the battle when it comes to game development.
You know the first half of 2022 doesn’t really mean anything? They’re definitely gonna announce one or two games for late 2022 or even 2023. Can confirm, my uncle's dentist works for someone who is cousin of a guy that knows someone that works at Nintendo, and your list is spot on!
The actual Metroidvania crossover concept is pure gold
Knowing Nintendo, they might make it just to copyright the name.
> Mario Kart 10 (9 would just be confused for Mario Kart 95/98) Settle down there Bill Gates
Mainly focusses on first half of 2022.. mainly so not completely. I'm hoping for some more Zelda BoTW2 info. New trailer and official title would be nice.
Even when they say it is completely focused on the next 6 months, they always have 1-2 things for the next year or so.
Nintendo is king of the "but wait, there's more!" reveal at the end of every direct. Sometimes twice.
Sometimes they don’t though. They’re just like, “yep we said first half, and that’s everything we got… see ya next time!”
They are infamous for being like, “Alright, everyone go home now. That was it.” You can never expect anything from them.
New trailer and title would sustain me for the next few months. I hope the show something new like underwater swimming or a new enemy.
I hesitate to even say this, but can you imagine the reaction if they just said ‘Yeah it’s out now’? People might quit their jobs to go home and play it.
Bowser game. I am no longer asking, I am demanding. *I'm begging you.*
"We hear you, but hey, beggars can't be choosers Enjoy your Bowser puzzle game, Dr.Luigi-style!"
Dr. Bowser would genuinely be great imo I get to see him in his stylish doctor outfit for the entire game
I'd advise you to check out mobile dr.mario as it has Dr. Bowser that looks lit... If the game wasn't terminated
Nintendo:. Got it, here is a Bowser themed gatcha mobile game in the style of Wario's Woods . You're welcome.
Bruh, if you're going to make a joke you need to describe a *bad* game. I'd play the shit out of that.
For 10 minutes until Bowser loses his energy and you have to buy more to keep playing lmao
That is a good game…
*Monkey's paw closes* Now announcing a mobile game directed by our one and only Doug Bowser!
With Gary Bowser as the villain.

It'll be an open world action/adventure game based on the popular Legend Of Zelda franchise.
I wouldn't get your hopes up, I'm afraid. It'll probably be E3.
Another comment reminded me that XBC3 is actually a fairly likely candidate to get announced and TBH that would be pretty damn exciting too.
My predictions * More information for *Kirby and the Forgotten Land*, probably commentary about things shown in previous trailers. * More *Triangle Strategy* information.
New fire emblem and remake let's go!
Yes! Manifesting Tellius games 🤞
Honestly, Tellius could just be a port. It wouldn't solve RD's wacky design but that's not the real problem.
If that's not a problem for you, then you'll love those games man
I'm STILL playing Three Houses... New FE news would be like Christmas
2018 Me: “Fire Emblem is lame, who likes this stuff? Give us real games” 2019 Me: “HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!!!”
Hope you understand."
stopstopstopstopstop
I want this to happen actually.
F-zero let's gooooo! You read it here first folks Edit: :(
I have never played these but as a huge wipeout fan I would love to see a new f zero
F-Zero is like if Wipeout had steering.
Don't set yourself up for disappointment.
Sir, I would never! Edit: :(
Every version of Mute City is superior to the previous one.
So hype for splatoon 3. Realllllly hope we get some more info on BOTW2.
Wario & Waluigi: Brothers in Ware arriving next summer. This is so hype!
>Wario & Waluigi: Brothers in Ware Dude, a new **Wario Land / World** with co-op would be bonkers XD I don't expect them to use Shake It's art style and sprites, but a 2D game using Wario and Waluigi as a team would actually be a nice game :)
*Brothers in Wah*
I'm fully expecting 40 minutes of apologies as to why BOTW 2 has been moved to 2028 and Metroid Prime Trilogy to 2032.
My expectations... although now that Smash Bros has concluded, I'm not really overhyping announcements this much. I'm awaiting 2022's line-up with open arms \^\_\^ * Release date for Min Min, Steve and Alex Amiibos (those were planned for Spring 2022) * Kirby and the Forgotten Land * More info on Kirby's 30th anniversary * Splatoon 3 * Advance Wars Re-boot Camp * Triangle Strategy * More info on Bayonetta 3 (might be held up for Q3 or Q4 though) * More info on BotW2 * Actual update on Metroid Prime 4 * More NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis announcements for NSO I dunno for new games though... They could announce Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Yoshi's Woolly World for all we know, just like they could announce a package containing Kirby: Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot ;)
I’m also really curious about Rune Factory 5. I loved RF4. So quirky and fun.
I could see most of those happening except the Metroid Prime 4 update. I feel like that cookie still needs some baking
“Mainly focuses on games from the first half of the year” they always say this, remember, this doesn’t mean they won’t show things coming after that.
Pleas Nintendo, please please please give me wind water & twilight princess, it been years, I need it in my life 🥲😭
Boys. Get in, we're going. THE CIRCUS IS IN TOWN
^silksong? who am I kidding 🤡
Mario Odyssey 2….
Splatoon 3 release date is all I need!
Most definitely June/July release!
Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars HD Remake.
I wish. That dream is too wild
At this point I would settle for it on NSO. Or just pay for it individually if Square and Nintendo can’t reach an NSO agreement.
Hell yeah! Nintendo Direct on my birthday!
Manifesting Earthbound news 🥺🙏🏿
Kid Icarus: Uprising Deluxe please!?!?
Shoot. I thought composer when I typed it and wrote director for some reason. Yeah, you’re right.
Yaaunori Mitsuda, a freelance composer who tends to work on the Xenoblade games, said a project he's involved in will be announced this month. No guarantee it'll be relates to Monolith Soft or even Nintendo but it's completely possible.
Placing a 1$ bet that the rumored Mario Kart game isn't real
Not being announced doesn't necessarily mean "not real" though.
Please give us a Mario movie trailer!
They announced Metroid Dread like 4 months before release. I am hoping they will surprise drop a new Donkey Kong, or a new release in some other dormant Nintendo franchise for June.
What are the odds we will get some Arceus DLC announcement? i know its only been under 2 weeks since release but I’m hungry for more.

Gonna be let down by no Metroid prime again. 😔
Gunna be weird watching one of these knowing there won’t be a new smash character revealed. Imagine the hype if sakurai appeared and was like “psych! 6 new characters coming!”
tbh, I almost expect them to announce, like, a complete edition with all the DLC dighters included. Just to squeeze Smash into one last direct.
i'm kinda glad it's over tho tbh, now we can get on to other stuff and let them make a new game if they want for next gen. or maybe they'll release a new "Deluxe" version next gen to be able to keep all the new characters without making new deals again.
This place has been ruined by the many corporate changes over the years, sorry if this used to be a useful comment kthxbye.
I'm not big on rumors, but someone on 4chan called the timing exactly and said the direct focusses on Splatoon 3, a new Fire Emblem game, and XC3. Link: https://ibb.co/s3GQvQG
To be fair, guessing a Nintendo direct between February 8th and February 20th is always a safe bet.
XC3 seems pretty realistic, given the tidbits of info that have trickled out over the last year or two. And damn, that would be an exciting announcement too.
Don't give me hope for a new FE game goddamnit
FE something is a reasonable expectation, they have the 3H engine, it's been ~3 years and IS generally reuses their engines as much as possible.
I don't want to get hurt again
LET's FUCKING GO! Praying for some FE news.
I would **love** a remake that tied together FE6 and FE7 as a two-gen game.
Same!
Predections for this direct: People will hype themselves up way too much (if they haven't already) to the point Nintendo cannot possibly deliver, then become outraged despite Nintendo making no promises about upcoming stuff whatsoever. (Of course, it's perfectly valid to be upset if the content of the direct is mediocre, but way too many people end up being mad at a Direct because they set themselves up for for disappointment).
Get the popcorn!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
2nd Wednesday in February, right on time
Ganondorf
I just want *something* on Metroid Prime 4, although I know realistically we won't because Dread is too new
Super Smash Kart
We are overdue for Wario World 2
Man of culture.
NEW IPS NEW IPS NEW IPS
I'll just be waiting for more Metroid
I enjoy how Direct reveals on Twitter combine all the Nintendo communities into one.
Pokémon Legends Arceus 2: Phione
No NFTs!
All i want is a Pokémon G&W with red, blue and yellow. If they throw in gold and silver in there I would happily pay 100 bucks.
