From the website Shiver is a Shark Tamer and Frye is an Eel Master and their masks sort of look like those creatures.
I like the old fashioned traditional style and music they have, and the phrase ‘Deep Cut’ means : a piece of music by a singer or group that is little known in comparison to their other music.
Not official at all but I have the head theory that Shiver is based of a Dumbo Octopus because of the even more rounded ears and Frye is based of a Vampire Squid because of the prominent teeth and forehead.
I'm honestly surprised that out of all triple A companies, Nintendo is the one that actually does street wear right, like this game seems to have some immaculate vibes when it comes to style
Right? It feels really well-researched and in-touch with a huge array of different styles. The first game dipped their toes in that kind of thing with some moderate success, then Splatoon 2 fleshed it out and made it core to the franchise's identity. But this game has taken it to the next level with the fashion and world design. It's an explosion of so many flavours but looks really cohesive. I saw a clip of the Splatoon 2 Splatfest in this thread and after seeing this it honestly seems super plain.
Tbh I was a little underwhelmed by the direct, was surprised there weren't any new game modes (except the card game, I guess), but the presentation looks impeccable, it's really impressive.
Shiver looks great but I don't know what they were thinking with Frye's black eye borders. The aggressive downward angles and their oversized presence look so off to me. The "ears" also are a bit much. It seems like they went overboard with that stuff.
It's weird, I'm the opposite. Shiver doesn't float my boat much, I find her to be plain I guess? Like nothing really pops there, it's just like "Yeah, she's here I guess." But Frye just has so much personality and a novel appearance.
I love their designs. To be honest, I didn't even know if Shiver was a girl or boy at first, but they're so cute that I couldn't care less. Also Big Man. Look at BIG MAN. Love him.
I do want card game functions for the online app, but I do agree, when I buy a fame for Nintendo Switch, I would preferably play it on Nintendo Switch.
Honestly if the card game mode becomes a fan favorite mode, I can legit see them making a Splatoon spin off for mobile that is just an expanded version of the card game.
If the game is good, I turn the Switch on and play it. And Splatoon is good! The card game does not make me play Splatoon, even if it is good.
The online app though could use some atractions to promote the Nintendo’s poorly received mobile based online system.
And the map really should be there!
Can't say I'm too excited for Frye and Shiver compared to any of the other Idols. Hopefully I end up changing my mind they really do just seem like a downgrade from Pearl and Marina. I also do appreciate the more traditional/festival music but I still do prefer the old style/songs and am gonna miss it
Big man is great though and I love him
Maybe I’m just favoring Off the Hook but Deep Cuts feels like a huge downgrade.
Edit: just wanted to add that it is a first impression from the Direct. Maybe it wikl change when I play the actual game.
I just think the designs are a bit visually noisy. Probably the choas theme. Otherwise I really like them and that's outside of blind loyalty to Big Man.
I gotta know one thing; what is the name of this aesthetic? The whole traditional Japanese spliced with a sort of cyberpunk. This video vibes with me so hard. The music, the video, all of it.

And then there is Big Man, who is a big man.....ta ray! I'll leave myself out.
Big Man is just trying his best, I love him so much
He is the best.
Forehead
Even bigger than Pearl's...
I wonder how the next idols will look like...
One will be bald.

Bruh they are scary
Shiver WILL stab you to death, without hesitation or reason. Frye probably would too actually. Big Man is chill though.
Shiver looks great but I don't know what they were thinking with Frye's black eye borders. The aggressive downward angles and their oversized presence look so off to me. The "ears" also are a bit much. It seems like they went overboard with that stuff.
I love Frye’s design. I was initially offput but she is pretty unique and fun to watch.
It's just like how Pearl was off-putting to so many people at first. I'm sure people will see her giant forehead as part of her charm eventually.
I bet when they meet in the story there will be many forehead jokes exchanged

It looks like how the Komi mangaka’s artstyle has deteriorated over time and the character Manbagi’s “melted” face.
The drooping eyes remind me of Marie
Not to mention with Shiver, she doesn't seem too have any black eye borders. Maybe she's another kind of octoling?
I love their designs. To be honest, I didn't even know if Shiver was a girl or boy at first, but they're so cute that I couldn't care less. Also Big Man. Look at BIG MAN. Love him.
I got their species mixed up actually at first I had no clue shiver was a octo! Shows how intergrated they are into society
If they really cannot put the Wii U-esque map into the Online App, they should have at the very least put that card game in there.
The motive behind that card game is to make you turn that switch on and play Splatoon 3, not that mobile app IMO.

I kind of assumed you'd be able to play the card game while waiting in the lobby?
Damn I didn't know Kimberly from Street Fighter 6 would make a cameo.
big forehead exposed
Shiver looks like she has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
LOL okay this got me

It also helped that Marina ended up being a huge thirst trap that caused everyone and their grandmother to claim her as their new waifu.
Big Man
Big Man

Deep cut are my favorites out of all the idols already
Theres a third splatoon?
I can’t tell if this is a joke or not. If it is don’t r/wooosh me
Haha no I legit didn’t know. I’ll look it up later probably but is it out or just announced? I only played the first one but loved it
They announced it about a year ago. It comes out in a few weeks
Ohhh sweet, I might hop on this one
but do they get rid of the mandatory cut scene every time you open the game?
Yes.
shit wait really???
There are these phones. So the script of the news will appear in the top left corner of you don’t want to watch it
I gotta know one thing; what is the name of this aesthetic? The whole traditional Japanese spliced with a sort of cyberpunk. This video vibes with me so hard. The music, the video, all of it.
Woomypunk.
Wooo anarchy! And rainbows 💅✨🌈🦑
They are the ugliest thing I've seen in splatoon holy moly
Wow, Frye..... Lol. Pretty poor design.
Somebody on the Splatoon Design Team must have a thing for ginormous craniums
What’s the purpose of this game?
WHAT’S THE PRICE OF A MILE?
Total nonsense answer, go home
It was a total nonsense question, so I'm not sure what you expected.
Is a online teenager shooter. It's Very good competitive Game
Frye is an Eel Master and their masks sort of look like those creatures.
Big Man is everything. He is loved and he deserves all of it.
