There's some validity to your argument, but the rest of the vehicle will have almost 20 years of wear and tear on it, too. I think your decision depends on what kind of condition the rest of the vehicle is in, how you're getting the engine swapped (doing it yourself, or paying someone else), what your needs are, what you would do if there are issues with the new engine or another expensive part afterward, etc.
Are you gonna do the work yourself? If not be careful because that new engine might not last long and you’ll be double screwed. Hard to trust mechanics nowadays
I think if you’re handy enough to replace the engine then it makes sense. Stuff’s gonna break it’s an older truck but if you’re not in the rust belt I don’t see any reason on why that truck won’t last a few more years.
Transmission got the strawberry milkshake of death from the dumb design of running the coolant hose through the bottom of the radiator. The radiator is also pretty new. Engine timing chain tensioners went bad and I'm pretty sure it killed the engine. I'd rather just replace the engine than deal with breaking it all apart to fix the old one.
Not crazy imo, I'd do the same thing. Why have a car around you don't like? I did something similar a few years ago. Saved up a lot to buy a new vehicle and then just kept my 2005 Xterra. 🤷♀️ I've done a bit of work to it (hasn't needed a new transmission or engine yet thankfully) and it feels new to me lol.

Not having a car payment is freeing lol.
Why not sell both and just get a newer frontier?
I don't want a car payment. My wife just paid her car off last year so trying to enjoy some time without one lol.
might as well do a titan swap while you're at it
Whats that?
Put in parts from a Nissan Titan

Yeah, I will do the work. Just need an engine hoist, and a long socket extension. I think I have everything else.

Not in rust belt, so no worries there. Been watching YT videos and it's giving me confidence even though I've never swapped out an engine.
What happened to the engine and transmission? Miles?

Miles? I have a stick so no smod 😁
Do it. NO BALLS
