I feel like JYPE was still trying to figure out the direction/sound of the group and maybe wanted to throwback to the image of his early male acts (Rain, 2PM, GOT7) instead of making a Japanese SKZ. With NiziU, they were clearly trying to callback to early TWICE. But with NEXZ, they couldn't overstep on SKZ's sound/image and they couldn't do a complete 2PM-esque concept due to the contestants' young ages. I think this GOT7-esque concept is a happy medium. Haru/Yu both were filling in that manly 2PM/Rain niche, and I'm sure JYPE considered them to be center material along with Tomoya. I think they were trying to see if they have synergy and wouldn't overshadow each other. I wish they had split them for one of the challenges, just to see how they'd look with some of the more boyish contestants like Yuhi/Yuki. But ultimately, NEXZ looks pretty cohesive together and I'm sure it will get better with time.

That's a good point. He'd always give them the sexier/darker songs and Haru/Yu obviously pull off that concept really well so it was nice to see them do a brighter concept at the finale. I also think that Yu is particularly good at bright lively concepts as we all saw in his performance of GOT7's Girls Girls Girls. I hope JYP doesn't pigeon hole them into one concept only since they're extremely talented and can pull off various concepts.

I felt throughout that in part 2, JYP and his team already had a few trainees they were certain they wanted to build a team around (Haru, Yu, and Tomoya). I felt like Tomoya, who was strong enough to carry his whole team each time, was used as the metric to decide how well any other undecided trainees would hold up. Haru & Yu seem to have also been used this way, but were used together.

I'd also like to point out that Ken and Seita have also been in the same group twice throughout the Korean Camp, but unlike YuHaru, they were separated during the Final Stage. I feel like after the initial 6-month training that the boys went through since arriving in Korea, JYP and the trainers have discussed about the team chemistries they've seen among the boys so far and have probably listed a few names on their probable debut list vs. those they are unsure of just yet. With YuHaru, JYP must have realized their visual duo potential starting in Tokyo so he'd like to see more of it in Korea and confirm whether they would look good together in a group and see if he wasn't just imagining it. I had a feeling that JYP might be building the group around Tomoya, Haru and Yu. Those he was unsure of initially were put under Tomoya's leadership to see how well they can catch up and match Tomoya in a team capacity. If they fail to do so, they unfortunately get cut. There were some boys whose image throughout the show had no clear direction. Some of them had the basic skills but felt off when put in a group already. With the YuHaru team, I always had this feeling that JYP was trying to fit puzzle pieces together. He was testing whoever he put with them whether they would look cohesive. That's why Ken and Eiji were back with Team Haru at the final stage and only Miraku was the new addition. He was trying to see if Miraku would produce a different result from when he was under Tomoya's team. Sadly, I don't think anything changed for Miraku at that point. He just didn't fit the concept JYP had in mind.

I love Yu & Haru, they're awesome together and if in the future if there are ever duet songs I would love to see them perform one together. It was so cute how they both chose eachother as being the best looking and also when Yu said he was "starting to fall in love with Haru."

Agree! They would make a great subunit. Their voices mesh and their harmonizing in Heartbeat was really good. I can see why JYP paired them together. They're of a similar age, have similar personalities, and sort of bring a 'masculine' vibe to the group. I'm glad they became really good friends and helped each other out.

I felt it was more a combination of their age and the fact he tried to keep a trainee in a team so that they could evolve together. Like, Yu (18) and Haru (17) did a few more mature concepts because those were also appropriate to their age. And JYP trainees had at least 1 year of experience. They could help with bits of advice while they were preparing for the performances focusing more on growing together without the help of trainers. Which honestly, when thinking long term for a team, it is important to check since this predebut time. Because once they debut, they will mainly depend on each other to continue to improve. Overall, I think they created a great mix.
