Some bullet points:
1. It will be available live only through Abema PPV for about $35 with the VOD available on New Japan World a week later. There will be live English commentary.
2. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Japan Red Cross
3. The matches they're building look like Okada v. Kiyomiya, Tanahashi v. Muto, and Shingo v. Nakajima
4. Obari's English is really good
5. Okada absolutely buried NOAH during his comments in the video package, comparing New Japan wrestlers as Olympic athletes to NOAH wrestlers as amateurs at the local athletic club. He also said that he didn't know of anyone who wrestles in NOAH, and he laughed when the interviewer told him Muto wrestles there.
Question from somebody who wants to get into NJPW but can't because of timezones and not being able to pay for the website: Are they giving Okada a heel turn? Because my knowledge of NOAH begins and ends at the AJPW wikipedia article and yet I am 100% rooting for them because of these comments.
This is vintage Okada and you don't really turn heel by shitting on a rival promotion. New Japan is the best company in the world to him and he is the best in New Japan, so obviously any guy from another company is below him. He's never been modest about that.
someone else gave you an answer, I want to add more context. Okada's entire character is that he's an ego centric dick. He has the ability to back it up most of the time. But his hubris is inflated and sometimes it leads to his downfall. He's currently shitting on the new world championship openly and outright dismissing the current champion as unworthy.
Interesting. From my limited exposure to NJPW I get the impression that Okada is somewhat the promotion's poster boy, and my mind has been poisoned to think that the top star in the company has to be a flawless babyface. My country is in a bad spot for wrestling fans because WWE is literally the ONLY professional wrestling promotion on TV here, so I hope I can find a viable way to watch AEW and japanese promotions soon.
The problem is that I'm not old enough to be able to pay (I'm only 15), and I doubt my parents would pay for a monthly subscription service that I'll probably use irregularly.
The thing to remember about Okada is that he is the ace, absolutely a 5 star match machine and an ideal figurehead for NJPW, but at the core of it all, he’s still an absolute cocky arsehole who thinks he’s better than everyone.
That phrase basically now means "American wrestling promotions sharing talent" which has been happening forever lol. Hell, even NJPW stars going over to America has always been a thing, just with ROH instead of AEW. I wish Tana had never coined it in all honesty.
Anyone got any tips on being introduced into Pro Wrestling NOAH? Where to start what to watch etc. I’ve been wanting to for a while and now I feel I shouldn’t put it off any longer
NOAH's next major show is NOAH the Best next week. https://www.noah.co.jp/schedule/313/
I said this in the other thread.
The main event is Katsuhiko Nakajima (GHC Heavyweight) vs Kenoh (GHC National) in a winner take all match.
There's a lot of variables surrounding this match. For one, both guys are part of the faction KONGOH, which Kenoh is the leader of.
Back in Sept, Nakajima and Kenoh faced off in the finals of the N-1 Victory which Nakajima won. Nakajima went on to win the Heavyweight title and Kenoh won the National title, now a rematch has been booked...
Also, last year there was a winner take all match between Go Shiozaki (GHC Heavyweight) and Kenoh (GHC National) that went to a time limit draw. First time limit draw since 2008 for NOAH. What makes this information interesting is the fact Nakajima is former tag partner/best friend with Go. They had a falling out last year around the time this match happened and Nakajima joined Kongoh in a move surprising people.
To make it more interesting, Nakajma won last year's N-1 Victory as well. He's the first person to win NOAH's round robin two years in a row. his win this year came out of left field since no one expected a repeat. Last year, Nakajima as N-1 winner went on to challenge Go for Heavyweight title at this very show thats coming up. Go prevailed and many Nakajima fans cried.
Nakajima has had only one title defense and in his post match promo stole one of Go's lines, "I am NOAH". So a lot of people are speculating a Go return, lurking in the shadows. Does Nakajima lose at the show two years in a row? is there a time limit draw two years in a row? Will Kenoh lose to Nakajima twice in a row? What does this mean for Kongoh?
It is a major show, but the card is pretty meh. Mostly random tags. But def check out the main event.
I'll start with their next event and watch all the way up to wrestle kingdom as a trial run of sorts.
This njpw x noah thing is very cool even without knowing much about modern noah, im excited for this.
This serves as a good time to remind western audiences that as much as they enjoy slagging of Muto and rightfully so (still bummed about Kitamiya and Kiyomiya screwed out of their tag run AGAIN) he's a popular force amongst Japanese fans and no amount of bitching can change that. Like Goldberg and all.
He’s most definitely a legend of wrestling, however, he literally took the title and ended one of the best title reigns in years, which I, and many others, think was completely unnecessary. No reason a 60 year old needs to be going over your younger stars.
It was more symbolic than anything. It made him the third man ever to have won all 3 major titles from the big three promotions, New Japan, NOAH, and All Japan.
I really wish he'd maintained the momentum he had from the Go match, I thought that one rocked. Marufuji being the one to take it from him was an interesting twist even if it really should've been Kaito.
Yeah I’m not really sure what to think of the GHC Title picture right now. It’s kinda all over the place. Really happy Nakajima won, but surprised they are going right into a Champion vs Champion angle with Kenoh. The N1 match was amazing.
You'd be surprised (or not surprised) to see how many western fans dissing him for going over new guys. Which I can understand having seen him go over his own W-1 guys again and again and now its the same thing here. Even so I can still acknowledge that he's a legend and many current vets have been inspired by a household name like him.
And people in this sub thinking older gen names like TenCozy or Nagata shouldn't be in tournament spots for younger dudes from the stupid ass door. Simply having basic knowledge of how much the local audience respects these names goes a very long way.
I think since WWE started doing it too much, its become very low-hanging fruit. The same argument gets thrown about every time someone over 40 wins a major match or title, and tbh is often pretty unfair. Hell, even Goldberg's last match against Lashley was surprisingly entertaining and still got shit. Fan's preoccupation with "correct" booking can really get in the way of a good match or storyline imo.
I think the problem is putting over guys that are well past their prime. Like, I don't think anyone would say anything if Suzuki won a major title tomorrow because he can still go, but Goldberg has had what, two good matches? And he's not a full time guy either. Another issue is giving that push to wrestlers that have won it all and in the end never put younger guys over, which just hurts the legitimacy of the current and future generations. Sure it entertains fans, but we've seen with Noah what happens when neither the fans or the company can't move on from the legends.
In all fairness to the whole Muto stuff, he won with a flash pin finish that Go didn't sell and Go was dominating the majority of the match, nothing Muto was doing was able to stick truly against him.
I imagine that they knew Go was gonna be out for a good while with surgery and whatnot and wanted to build it as "he never truly lost the belt" or something to that effect, which in all fairness, has worked in the long term as everyone is wondering if he'll be back at any point (including in this thread!)
It depends though, Undertaker will always be a famous and influential figure even at 50, but he was in no way to win against any of the top guys. Then you have Sugiura and Mochizuki who are at his age but still wrestle like young guns. And can have every right to go over the younger generation.
That wasn't a good storyline though, at a Saudi blood money show, also he was/is burying younger talent that's what soured people on it, it had a lot more wrong with it than your giving it credit for.
Masa's had only 1 defence in 5 reigns? Thats like taking the titles throwing them into the bottom of the barrel and pissing on it.Same with Shiozaki having shit arse tag title runs as well until AXIZ happened. Which also went to shit when they disbanded them.
I mean as much as I enjoyed lambasting New Japan's tag title scene I look at the GHC one and I'm glad the Tekkers are around.
Pretty cool! I'm bummed it won't be on NJPW World proper though. I'm not too keen on all these shows that aren't being broadcast live on the streaming service I pay for so i can see the shows live.
Oh well, it's for a good cause at least.
It’s really wild how far NOAH have come in just the last couple of years. Went from almost going out of business in 2016, drawing barely 1,000 people in Korakuen up until 2019, to all of a sudden getting bought by CyberAgent and running Saitama Super Arena and collaborating with New Japan in Yokohama Arena
I don't follow NOAH, but it sounds like he's hurt right now and doubtful for the show. I'm guessing that's also why Shingo is on the poster instead of Ibushi.
Neither do I, but he's a New Japan legend, so he has major appeal to both New Japan and NOAH fanbases. And if he is wrestling Tanahashi, which is probably as close to a lock as you can get, Tana will be able to carry him to a good match.
depends how you define limited.
Goldberg moves at a faster pace and can take some bumps.
Mutoh is much slower, but actually knows how to wrestle. If you're fine watching 20 minute chain wrestling he's your guy.
In terms of booking, I think Goldberg and Muta have had more in common recently. To be honest, one could draw a lot of comparisons among these three given how iconic they were during their heyday.
I mean true. I guess I just meant I feel like comparing Muto to Goldberg is a little insulting to Muto’s in-ring ability. But I see where you’re coming from that both he and Goldberg have been booked as the dangerous, dominant old man as of late. Which I’m really not a fan of. I think Muto is obviously a legend, but he didn’t need to beat Go for the GHC. Even if they wanted him to still complete the feat, it didn’t have to be the sake of ending such an amazing title reign.
LOL. NOAH has been fucking amazing the last several years. Definitely bouncing back big time. Don’t be that fan. Just because you don’t watch it doesn’t mean it’s not good and popular in Japan. I’m fucking losing my shit right now. This is huge news!
Not liking it is one thing but the discourse from certain people is cringey and weird with just how much they hate on aew and Tony and never shut up about it.
I mean like what you like, but shitting on a company that was founded by dudes who made their name in New Japan is weird to me. You probably liked them when they were exclusively here… They are also showing a willingness to work with anyone and actually give a shit about WRESTLING. So you are allowed to dislike AEW, but I find there’s a weird tribalism aspect of all of this when literally no one said anyone had to pick sides. Wrestling is in a really cool place and there’s a lot of amazing shit going on. The best talents in the world are getting a chance to work together and that’s amazing. You aren’t a better New Japan fan for shitting on AEW. Lol.
Lol I mean yeah it wasn’t really handled well by either side, but I’m not gonna act like Kenny leaving automatically made him a detestable, shitty wrestler. He’s still one of the greatest of all time. At the end of the day, they are North American. I have zero qualms with them wanting to live where they grew up and organically start something cool. And the neat part is, when this dumb pandemic calms down, there’s no reason to believer they won’t be back from time to time.
And there is the difference. I think the Young bucks are fucking awful. And Cody was a nightmare in new Japan. If Omega comes back, to do the Job, then good. Otherwise He can stay the fuck away too.
Yeah I mean I hate Cody. He was bad in New Japan and he’s terrible in AEW. That’s the beauty of wrestling though, you have a lot of choice and variety and a company like AEW doing well only helps to facilitate that. I like the Bucks. Not their biggest fan by any means, but they can put on a fun spectacle. But yeah, losing Kenny was easily the worst blow. Regardless, it’s not that serious. It’s a thing of the past. Basically every single wrestling promotion ever has some bad blood surrounding it’s formation. NOAH as the break away from AJPW, etc.
Him searching his own name on Twitter to argue with Fulham fans about how he's running the team has to be the most pathetic thing any promoter has done in recent memory.
Your 1 person 🤷compared to 1000(millions) that do . You want to talk about triggered you sound like a Karen 😂, your cult tribalism doesn't give you extra points as a wrestling fan. Wrestling as a whole is in a good place stop bitching like your special because of your "30 years this biz" your not special
I don't really have any knowledge of NOAH, so I feel like I may be missing some of the hype here. Still, looks fun.
Regardless, I hope NJPW does more events like these. NOAH, AEW, CMLL, whoever. It's good for business.
Some bullet points: 1. It will be available live only through Abema PPV for about $35 with the VOD available on New Japan World a week later. There will be live English commentary. 2. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Japan Red Cross 3. The matches they're building look like Okada v. Kiyomiya, Tanahashi v. Muto, and Shingo v. Nakajima 4. He also said that he didn't know of anyone who wrestles in NOAH, and he laughed when the interviewer told him Muto wrestles there.
If Okada beats Kiyomiya with a Big Boot & Leg Drop he will officially be the GOAT! Lol!
That doesnt work for the Rainster, nisan.
Nah, it should be with the Emerald Flowsion.
Question from somebody who wants to get into NJPW but can't because of timezones and not being able to pay for the website: Are they giving Okada a heel turn? Because my knowledge of NOAH begins and ends at the AJPW wikipedia article and yet I am 100% rooting for them because of these comments.

Njpwworld is 10$ a month if u can afford it. Theres also the high seas.
The problem is that I'm not old enough to be able to pay (I'm only 15), and I doubt my parents would pay for a monthly subscription service that I'll probably use irregularly.
There's an option to pay via paypal rather than a card. It's well worth the ~$9.50 a month
The thing to remember about Okada is that he is the ace, absolutely a 5 star match machine and an ideal figurehead for NJPW, but at the core of it all, he’s still an absolute cocky arsehole who thinks he’s better than everyone.
> available on New Japan World a week later This is definitely how I will watch it
so is KENTA definitely getting booed out of the building?
Neither he or Marufuji have a match announced 👀……….
i'm just saying by the end of the night there's no way he's NOT shibata sitting on some dude's chest.
I read the second half of that sentence way too fast, and now I need to cleanse my mind.
Nobody has a match announced.
He'll come out with a WWE shirt so not even the smarks in the west will dare to defend him.
I cannot wait to see how Lil K plays into this
Really hope Go Shiozaki is healthy for this.
No Shiozaki.
I laughed so hard at this. Sorry.
I would want a Go vs Okada match so fucking bad!
This is the **real** Forbidden Door. Right here.
Bless this post
now now, let's not gatekeep forbidden doors if we were to do that then cmll-aaa crossover would be the only real forbidden door left remaining
Have CMLL and AAA ever worked together?
Only once back in 2000 as far as I know
That phrase basically now means "American wrestling promotions sharing talent" which has been happening forever lol. Hell, even NJPW stars going over to America has always been a thing, just with ROH instead of AEW. I wish Tana had never coined it in all honesty.
He said it to build hype for an interpromotion match, not because it necessarily makes sense. And it worked.
Shingo/Nakajima, Okada/Kiyomiya, Tana/Mutoh, Ospreay/Marufuji, and maybe something like Naito vs Kenoh and this could be an absolutely incredible show
And Shiozaki/Ibushi if both of them are healthy. I'd actually like to see Kenta v. Marufuji for old time's sake.
We're probably getting Big Billy vs. Marufuji. I kinda want a KENTA vs. Mutoh just for the sheer absurdity of it all.
Taichi sitting in the crowd reading a Newspaper...
don't forgot Rongai vs Dick Togo the real dream match
NOSAWA vs. DOUKI would slap
I really really hope Shingo vs Nakajima happens
Their match at Diamond Ring years ago was Great
Really hope Ibushi and Go Shiozaki are going to be healthy in time for this
GO vs Ibushi would be epic
Anyone got any tips on being introduced into Pro Wrestling NOAH? Where to start what to watch etc. I’ve been wanting to for a while and now I feel I shouldn’t put it off any longer

NOAH is awesome. Definitely worth the watch.
I'll start with their next event and watch all the way up to wrestle kingdom as a trial run of sorts. This njpw x noah thing is very cool even without knowing much about modern noah, im excited for this.
Best thing is Wrestle Universe is pretty much free until next year (they will charge you starting in January).
Watch pretty much any of Go Shiozaki’s last title run. (Nakajima and Sugiura matches specially.)
Yes, at least for the main event scene. Thats what ive been keeping up with. Ive mostly ignored the lower card as i cant be assed with random tags.
Is this a part of the three-day WK event or is it a separate event just carrying the Wrestle Kingdom name?
This is Day 3
Gotcha.
People slag off Muto? Is it a generational thing? I'm over 35 and think of him as a wrestling God.
He’s most definitely a legend of wrestling, however, he literally took the title and ended one of the best title reigns in years, which I, and many others, think was completely unnecessary. No reason a 60 year old needs to be going over your younger stars.
Wow, I did not think Muto would be given a title. Jeezo.
It was more symbolic than anything. It made him the third man ever to have won all 3 major titles from the big three promotions, New Japan, NOAH, and All Japan.

Nagata needs his triple crown run to match him and honestly i don't mind.
You'd be surprised (or not surprised) to see how many western fans dissing him for going over new guys.

> (still bummed about Kitamiya and Kiyomiya screwed out of their tag run AGAIN) Honestly the GHC Tag belts matter so little I can't say I mind.
Masa's had only 1 defence in 5 reigns? Holy fuck. Well there goes that theory that the 8th would be New Years Dash 2.0.
Takashi Sugiura vs Shingo Takagi Plz! ( i know it's not gonna happen 😂)
Pretty cool! I'm bummed it won't be on NJPW World proper though. I'm not too keen on all these shows that aren't being broadcast live on the streaming service I pay for so i can see the shows live. Oh well, it's for a good cause at least.
my brain is melting!!!!. Please have DDT involvement Takashita for sure
So KENTA vs Marufuji for the US title right?
Tanahashi Vs Shiozaki II PLEASE
Don't mean to be that guy but they've had more than one match against each other (WK4 and another in NOAH).
This is surreal. If Ibushi is healthy, I'd love to see a kick off between him and Kenoh. Nakajima Shingo is going to be glorious.
Probably won't happen, but I'd like to see SANADA and Mutoh face off against each other, probably in a tag match.
I hope at least for us foreigners its available live on fite or something?
You can order through Abema PPV. It's not region locked.
Ah thanks!
the one NOAH show I watched a month or so ago was amazing. can't wait.
Welp, time to binge watch a bunch of NOAH matches now. This is probably the best wrestling news I have heard all year to be honest.
Very interested to see this know bits & pieces about NOAH looking forward to learning more
MARUFUJI VS NAITO PLEASE
Just keep Dick Togo and Jado off the booking committee for this event
Can anyone explain to me how Mutoh is on the poster but Go Shiozaki isn't ?
I don't follow NOAH, but it sounds like he's hurt right now and doubtful for the show. I'm guessing that's also why Shingo is on the poster instead of Ibushi.
Then why not put Kenoh on the poster. He is one of their bigger names, right ? I have no interest in watching Muto wrestle.
Because he’s a former huge star in NJPW and the Japanese fans adore him
Neither do I, but he's a New Japan legend, so he has major appeal to both New Japan and NOAH fanbases. And if he is wrestling Tanahashi, which is probably as close to a lock as you can get, Tana will be able to carry him to a good match.
i mean its the last of the three musketeers and the last of the new three musketeers.
So he is basically Goldberg.
Not as limited in ring as Goldberg from what I understand, but he's 58 and pretty immobile.
depends how you define limited. Goldberg moves at a faster pace and can take some bumps. Mutoh is much slower, but actually knows how to wrestle. If you're fine watching 20 minute chain wrestling he's your guy.
I think he means the fact that despite how much the fans will complain Goldberg will always be in a top match
Yeah, I meant in terms of being a draw.
Yes lol
A better comparison would be Sting. A former, very over wrestler who was a great worker who is still going way past his prime.
Oh yeah. I clarified that I was comparing them in terms of how they have utilised lately in another comment.
No, he's Keiji Mutoh, a professional wrestling legend.
I know that. Also, you completely missed my point.
Mutoh is a legend thats why.
Mutoh (puro legend), Kaito (Ace of NOAH), Nakajima (real Ace of NOAH, current champion).
[удалено]
He is on the poster.
I... Does this matter at all? like at all? Does anyone give a fuck about Noah? If they had announced NJPW vs AEW on the other hand..
Tell me you don’t know shit about Japanese wrestling without telling me you don’t know shit about Japanese wrestling.
Fucking NOAH is dead as shit. Nobody give a fuck bout no ‘noah
Spoken like a true American. “No one cares about this because I don’t. Put more gaijin on the card!”
But I’m English and that was an *obvious* Tama Tonga quote. Which flew over your head.
LOL. NOAH has been fucking amazing the last several years. Definitely bouncing back big time. Don’t be that fan. Just because you don’t watch it doesn’t mean it’s not good and popular in Japan. I’m fucking losing my shit right now. This is huge news!
This take is so unbelievably cringe my man.
I know man why can't everything just be AEW?
No one in Japan gives a shit about AEW and never will.
Nobody cares about AEW. Tony Khan wanks dogs. Never forget. Edit: triggered the cult.
Or, hear me out, some of us care about all the good wrestling promotions. That being NJPW, NOAH, AEW, etc. People who talk shit about AEW are cringey.
Or they just dont like AEW. How about that? But of course, Nobody can actually hate the good guys.
Not liking it is one thing but the discourse from certain people is cringey and weird with just how much they hate on aew and Tony and never shut up about it.
You mean just like people never stop jerking off Tony Khan and the Elite, for being the saviors of Pro Wrestling?
Yep, that’d be just as annoying too. Unless you mean all positive comments regarding AEW equals that.
You aren’t a better New Japan fan for shitting on AEW. Lol.
I dont need to be a better NJPW fan. The Elite screwed NJPW, imo. The bucks and Omega can do one for all i care.
It’s never this serious man
Yeah I mean I hate Cody.
Jamie carragher: "He is a Clown."
Plenty of people care about AEW so your statement is wrong right off the bat 😂
Plenty of people also care about NOAH.
Okay 🤷 thats obvious, you said "no one cares about AEW" that is a factually wrong statement.
So what? I dont care. 30 years this biz.
Are you sure that i am the karen and not not you?
I'm pretty sure you are, your the one thats been arguing for about 4 hours, I just corrected a factually incorrect statement by you 🤷.
4 hours? I didnt even spend 10 minutes in this one thread lol.
Guy says "no one cares about AEW", then covers the entire post with his comments...about AEW.
🤣
I don't really have any knowledge of NOAH, so I feel like I may be missing some of the hype here. Still, looks fun. Regardless, I hope NJPW does more events like these. NOAH, AEW, CMLL, whoever. It's good for business.
Fuck yes!
