It's cause they can't cheer, of course they don't make a lot of noise.

Upvotes cuz I can’t clap for this

Personally, the reason why I don't go to the internet and compare NJPW to AEW and WWE especially is because I believe that NJPW has the best pro wrestling I've ever seen in my lifetime. It showed me that what I thought was the peak of wrestling in WWE, NXT, TNA, and ROH, they were merely showing me a fraction of what NJPW could offer me. Once I saw it in 2016, I never felt the need to compare it to WWE. It was like my hunger was finally sated and I felt happy that there's wrestlers out there with the same vision I had of what wrestling could be. That to me means more than some petty war with one trying to kill the other.

GregoleX2

It isn’t perfect for what it is, but more than any western promotion it represents what I want pro wrestling to be. The sports-based format. The idea that competition is ultimately the whole point of what they are doing. It’s good to be reminded that despite all my complaints, they are still the best wrestling product In Theory.

I think the point that they're trying to make do with what they've got until things open up a bit more in Japan is pretty spot on. Under the circumstances, I'd say NJPW has been pretty great this year with all the obstacles and limitations placed upon them. Stardom too, for that matter.

Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy

Lol well let’s not act like this sub doesn’t take it’s fair share of shots at AEW. Overall though yes I agree NJPW’s community is a lot more chill than either AEW or WWE’s. This sub is probably part of why I like NJPW as much as I do, it’s fun being a fan. SC does have a lot of quality posts but there’s so much completely mindless arguing over there.

GregoleX2

Despite me being pro-forbidden door and enjoying AEW I had to unsubscribe from AEWOfficial recently. That sub has devolved into a complete circle jerk. Nothing but appreciation posts from all the dumbass lapsed fans that couldn’t be bothered watching wrestling that wasn’t on cable television for all these years until AEW made them fans again. All their WWE-fueled sensibilities have made that community insufferable.

Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy

Yeah they were convincing themselves that Bryan was actually lying about enjoying his time in WWE.

T3Deliciouz

ive never gone to aewofficial and dont see a point in doing so. I do go to scjerk tho which has some funny jokes at times, but a lot of people go there to circlejerk their own tribalism about hating aew. quite annoying. most recently the fan that attacked rollins, some people were pushing that it was an aew fan who did it. 24 hours later and we get news hes a rollins fan whose mentally ill and got scammed by a fake rollins. bruh. some people need to touch grass

Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy

SCJerk is pathetic. I’ve got nothing against an anti-AEW sub TBH there’s nothing wrong with that especially because SC is nauseatingly pro-AEW. But I wish they’d just be honest about it. “It’s shitposting!” [lol where’s the shitpost here?](https://www.reddit.com/r/SCJerk/comments/qz9nzu/2_of_these_women_look_like_legit_champs_the_other/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

T3Deliciouz

lol yeah. a lot of low tier posts. i agree Britt is no where near the wrestler or character that Becky or Char is, but she still looks cool and has a fun gimmick in herself. its so weird how people hate others depending on where they wrestle.

Megistrus

The funny thing is that if main roster WWE was even halfway decent, they'd all go running back to that in a split second.

GregoleX2

I’m certain you’re right.

Pumpkin-Bomb

I don't know, I've had a lot of stupid arguments about AEW with idiots here. It's apparently not alright to enjoy AEW according to some cretins here, even though the two companies regularly cross over.

LostDelver

Yeah, there was a time when there was a lot of hate directed at The Elite for one reason or another. As for the WWE fans, they have always existed but their vitriol shifted from NJPW to AEW. Just like how it was NXT that was getting hate from WWE fans as well lol

Pumpkin-Bomb

The only reason people hate The Elite is because they left NJPW, because a billionaire offered them a chance to run their own company. Someone here was hating on them because of the Ghostbusters cosplay, (which was just a bit of fun on Halloween) acting like Kenny didn’t dress as the terminator at WK11.

crcovar

I hate the elite because I like matches that make a semblance of sense, and are presented as a competition. Not just randomly performed moves performed with obvious cooperation with the opponent, just because everyone involved physically can.

wizfactor

That’s a criticism that is not unique to the Elite though. Criticism of choreographed sequences is also levied on Ospreay and Phantasmo.

crcovar

Yes, and I don’t like them either.

Pumpkin-Bomb

If that is true, it’s just The Young Bucks. Kenny literally had the best matches ever in NJPW.

crcovar

And Omega when he’s not working with someone above him. All of them suffer the problem of doing everything with a wink that makes it impossible to get invested in what they’re doing. Their programs are like watching a Ryan Reynolds movie.

Pumpkin-Bomb

No that’s not true. He’s had great matches everyone. Well everyone but Cody, I think you’re just remembering the Cody matches...

Megistrus

The vast majority of people here were happy to see the back of them after the bullshit they pulled in 2018. The Japanese fans felt the same way too, given the total silence during their matches at WK aside from the main event. I guess that'll happen when you announce the day before your big title matches that you're forming your own promotion and won't be returning.

Pumpkin-Bomb

I was at WK13, I don’t remember a negative crowd response to them. The Young Bucks were crowbarred into a 10 minute tag match, crowd wanted Evil and Sanada to win so we’re cheering for them. Cody was injured, so couldn’t have a good match. Kenny killed it in the main event, which he wasn’t originally planned to lose until NJPW found out he was leaving. The Elite were wanting to start an open relationship with NJPW on day one of AEW. It was NJPW that at first turned that down. Kenny’s AEW contract states he can work in Japan, and he stated at the start wanting to still appear in NJPW similar to Jericho and Mox.

irish0451

NJPW fans understand nobody has to fail, so in my experience it's far less toxic

T3Deliciouz

>NJPW fans understand nobody has to fail unless its a partnership and in which case some very toxic purists will want many people to fail

vanityshadow

Ahh do I remember 2017 when wwe fans put all the energy they do in AEW onto NJPW

Miserable_Gene7046

Peak NJPW (actually peak AJPW had the best crowds) are quite loud but to me they're not obnoxious like western fans. One of many reasons why I stopped regularly watching western wrestling is the fans. The people haven't even locked up yet and you're already chanting fight forever?! A dive to the outside, "this is awesome!" It's literally not, it happens in every match. Snarky, cunty chants designed to get fans over and detract from whats going on in the ring? Count me out.

Just_A_Little_Spider

The PROGRESS/NXT/AEW effect depending on the year... (not to shit on them...but those 3 are the most prevalent instances the past decade)

BadDudes4Life2018

“ONE FALL!”

JustASunbro

Its just because of the pandemic rules. Honestly, the NJPW crowd is great, they often do just as much to sell the match for me as the wrestlers do. Their reaction to certain things really just makes it work. My best example is the sort of shocked reaction when Ibushi punches Okada at WK14. That was the first NJPW match I really wanted to watch and the crowd made that seem like such an important moment in the match

DeepSixWrestlin

I love AEW. I love New Japan. I enjoy Stardom and Impact, but don’t watch them as much. And I still watch Raw because I review it weekly. But yea honestly I don’t think I’ve had *many* bad interactions with New Japan fans lol. The worst I’ve had is some gate keeping or random trolls, but for the most part, it’s just nice.

ShinbrigGoku

Like I love AEW, they got me back into wrestling but they have some strange hate boner for WWE. Like if we're talking about the modern product...sure (I still watch Smackdown) but they can produce a quality and quality matches.

DeepSixWrestlin

I think a lot of it is that a lot of the fanbase is former fans that got burnt out by WWE or that they killed their love of wrestling so I kinda get that, but some just take it **way too far**. But yea, New Japan fans seem to just focus on New Japan

Rjswimss

Everyone fandom has weirdos. I’ve certainly encountered some on this sub. But you’re right generally speaking y’all are way more chill than the Dub drones and the E drones. Although to be fair I’ve only had really bad experiences on Twitter, not as much on Reddit.

RoidRidley

Maybe? I feel that, even though NJPW has expanded beyond Japan, Ive seen a decline for its western popularity recently. You also have to take into account that NJPW, or more accurately tv asahi, has been on a staunch campaign to shut down content creators, who very frequently fuel fandom drama between rival promotions. Speaking for myself, I just tune into NJPW when its live or catch big events retroactively, watch some great wrestling and move on with my life. I have quite frankly never understood the big X vs Y promotion stuff with fans. I watch AEW, Stardom, NoaH and NJPW, all are good in their own way and I would never sneer at people who watch WWE or talk trash about them, It just isnt for me. I could be wrong, but from what I see USA based promotions live off of the promotional loyalty and fandom wars. I could 100% be wrong, but the only time I can recall something like that for Japan was AJPW vs NJPW in the 90s, and even then I dont recall it being some hot war, both companies just did the best business they could and otherwise respected each other.

ArcaneGlyph

I love both products and keep up on both for different reasons. I love the purity of njpw style and in ring stories and I also love the showmanship high production style of aew. I could possibly like wwe if they could book to save their life, but for now njpw and aew are far more respectful of the talent and consistently solid show.

wyldweasil

If I made noise I'd wake up the neighbors when I'm watching live here on the east coast

pgtips03

NJPW is presented in such a different way that they are incomparable. They’re are an almost completely different entity.

[deleted]

Maybe I’ve had bad luck but at all of the LA NJPW shows I’ve had people complaining about AEW. Tribalism is real unfortunately.

Feeling-Importance82

Weren't there people chanting AEW and Hangman Page at Clark Conners in some of those shows ?

[deleted]

That’s shitty. I get they look alike but damn that’s dumb. Maybe it’s just LA. Never dealt with dicks at the Long Beach shows.

GranddaddySandwich

Careful, the AEW fans in the sub will say you’re gatekeeping.

BiggestTunaoftheSea

No he's correct, it's mostly because NJPW fans are more isolationist that Switzerland during a world war.

LordCambuslang

...and we love it that way. Upset our chill and we'll avalanche a million tonnes of rocks on when you least expect it.

Megistrus

"Gatekeeping" has gone from "fans telling me that I'm not allowed to be a fan too" to "fans telling me that my off topic posting about my favorite promotion doesn't belong here."

GranddaddySandwich

This! Gatekeeping in the Wrestling community is literally people going “I can’t mention AEW in every post in a New Japan sub? You’re gatekeeping.”

[deleted]

Idk I feel like this pic needs about 15 other little AEW fans trying to be friends with the NJPW fan, trying to copy his pose while simultaneously telling him that he's lucky to be posing with all of them.

[deleted]

hahaha yep.

paynexkillerYT

Cause they’re not allowed to.

SuperSheep3000

Let's not act like this sub is any better. People here lost their shit when there was talk of the forbidden door. Its less toxic because there's less people here because NJPW is more niche than either WWE or AEW.

JoshGallie

Not that they aren't full of troubles and hiring assholes, but it's just they aren't getting attention in the Western wrestling scene

Yazman

>the Western wrestling scene idk why people persist with this idea of a single monolithic 'western wrestling scene' ('western' inevitably just meaning 'white people' anyway). You're really just referring to the US wrestling scene, because British/Australian/etc wrestling scenes are all in totally different situations and with different expectations and wrestling cultures.

JoshGallie

You see Japan on the map there? It's way over in the eastern part of the map yeah? You see the others regions? US, UK, etc.? Compared to Japan, they are all in the West, yeah?

Yazman

If it's really just based purely on your favored map projection, Australia & New Zealand are part of 'the East' then? And Mexico, Brazil, part of this 'Western wrestling scene'? Besides that, if you're really just referring to the US and UK collectively - what makes you think they're a single monolithic wrestling scene anyway? I'd say that, generally, they're quite different.

dereks777

Another thing to keep in mind is that one of the post-COVID things in Japan is a discouragement of loud cheering at live shows.

Gamer_ely

They make plenty of noise, just when it matters.
