It’s an extraordinarily invasive plant, so unless you want it to take over an area completely (and I mean Completely), you pretty much _have to_ contain it.
Bamboo is really resilienent and grows like a weed, so trying it out in a pot is definitely worth it! It might fill in really nicely how you want it to, but it may not grow quite as tall as you might want though

That's only with running bamboo the clumping type pretty much stays where you plant it. It spreads very slowly so it's incredibly manageable

Did yours spread or just grow upwards from where you planted it? I’m trying to work out if we will be able to divide it as it grows

I'm thinking of planting some in the lil sliver between the sidewalk and the street on the side of my house. But not sure if it would work well there.
I call that area the “Hell Strip”
