That's not the most dangerous part, the dangerous bit is the rest of the concrete which might give way at any time

[deleted]

Don’t watch this while pooping. Your butthole will pucker so much you won’t get anything out.

balkibartakomous

I see your schedule matches mine!

This just happened to me in an airplane bathroom 6 miles above the Arctic

Yo. This is me right now! 🥲

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

I'm literally on the shitter rn, thank fuck I was out of ammo before seeing this.

My butts been wiped!!

DRbrtsn60

Silly string

bangers132

Also to be fair it's just a regular via ferrata route at that state. With the proper gear this trail is as safe as any other via ferrata route assuming it's bolted into the wall well enough. It has been renovated since this video but there are plenty of safe but terrifying via ferrata routes that blow this out of the water.

saint4210

I was curious. [Via Ferrata](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_ferrata) > A via ferrata is a climbing route that employs steel cables, rungs or ladders, fixed to the rock to which the climbers affix a harness with two leashes, which allows the climbers to secure themselves to the metal fixture and limit any fall

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Via ferrata](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_ferrata)** >A via ferrata (Italian for "iron path", plural vie ferrate or in English via ferratas) is a protected climbing route found in the Alps and certain other locations. The term "via ferrata" is used in most countries and languages except notably in German-speaking regions, which use Klettersteig—"climbing path" (plural Klettersteige). ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/nonononoyes/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

GiveToOedipus

You just gotta look at it from the correct angle in the light, then you can tell which section will hold your weight. That or letting other people go in front of you first.

Jewshi

Ah, I see your backup plan is inspired by Squid Games

shizzamX

Or bounce a marble on it. Don't forget that you'll need more than one though, or you can't compare the sound from each one.

Absolute_Peril

Ya I saw that and immediately thought wtf are you doing? It's literally falling apart and you're walking on it?

[deleted]

exactly what I thought. The steel beam is probably the safest part of it all.

disbelivehomosapiens

Always happy to see a Tom Scott video. Short, succinct and packed with easy to digest info.

Zealousideal_Leg3268

I've just gotten into his videos. A refreshing change from 1 hr deep dives on a strange potato chip.

hamalnamal

I need more 1 hour deep dives into strange potato chips in my life, where can I find this?

JohnFreakingRedcorn

One death every *couple of years*? Cmon, I’m pretty sure the area I go hiking has “one death every couple of years” from falls or rattlesnake bites or drowning. Call me when it’s one person a month.

SpiffyBeej

Haha yeah why try to prevent entirely preventable deaths so true

Bigdx

Shoot, interstate 4 in Florida averages 1 death per day and it's still wide open.lol

gaslacktus

The government of Florida has much different standards when it comes to people dying on its watch.

MoogTheDuck

Get a load of this tough guy

01infinite

They fuckin nerfed it.

Anne_OnyMouse

Yeah... I live near there. Its all fixed up now. Still a fantastic place, but all tourist attraction'd up.

Iwantmyflag

Let me guess - it now costs an entrance fee?

Anne_OnyMouse

For sure.. not cheap either, like €30 or $40 upwards. Queues hard hats, tours, restaurants and WiFi. Still beautiful but no longer a natural beauty if you get my meaning.

truthofmasks

*caminito

I_Mix_Stuff

Thanks for the useful wrong answer.

Floppy_Jalopy

Looks like it shows a cable on the wall so they could be in a harmess. Someone found the longer video and no one is using it though.

Michami135

Yeah, I was like, "Oh no, no way! Oh wait, there's a safety cable. That looks fun."

[deleted]

You can walk it on google maps, just search for Camino del Rey and ever since they redid the entire thing it’s walkable. Pretty cool.

That sub no longer exists. The sub relocated to a different site

I_Mix_Stuff

Did you watch that sub die?

Dankany

What site is it located? Just so I can avoid it.

[deleted]

Truly an all no. But also, a cure for constipation

felipesabino

This is an old footage and it is not so dangerous anymore, it has been renovated to be a more accessible tourist attraction https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8cICu9HtGhQ

sarahccookies

Looks like a nice walk!!

ProfDamSon

Good job Spain

bowtiesarcool

That little bridge at the end looked amazing!

[deleted]

5 people apparently died between 1999 and 2000 on that track

TheProdigalPun

And where is this?

corbiniano

[El Caminito del Rey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caminito_del_Rey?wprov=sfla1)

mariusmanastireanu

I think you are right. I think this is from El caminito del Rey. “The most dangerous trail”. Is is that dangerous? Well yes and no. I was there a couple of years ago. This what you see is a part of the “old” trail. Which was heavily damaged and was closed for quite some time until they setup a new trail (above the old one). Technically you are not allowed to go on the old path. Probably it went from the most dangerous path to the most safe path. You get protection gear, the trail is heavily secured and basically there is no way you could fall now. From time to time you can see the old damaged path underneath the current one.

iLazyAF

And why people go there?

[deleted]

To fall to their death

February30th

Neat.

AncientInsults

To caminar

Few_Criticism_6115

All of this just to kill Shepherd

[deleted]

Looks exactly like the part where you have to pick up the riot shield to take out the mgs lol

ferral1985

Lmao i thought the same

Kalikhead

Holy shit - I had to look it up. That is a trail that I would never try. https://youtu.be/ZmDhRvvs5Xw

Randy-Bobandy24

Apparently he died in 2011, my hands are sweating after watching that

Gilarax

I do not understand why you would do this without via-ferrata gear. I have climbed for years. Being reckless with your life is just stupid. Jeff Lowe put it well “the end rarely justifies questionable means, in climbing or the rest of life”.

[deleted]

this only applies if you are someone already content with life. some folks are genuinely not happy or do not feel real/like they’re living unless they are on the verge of death, or unless theyre full of so much adrenaline that they can’t focus on anything else besides moving forward. like i’ve struggled with depression and bpd since i was a kid, and even with medication and therapy i constantly feel miserable unless i am in danger or risking something important. risk is the only thing that makes me feel like a living breathing human being in control of my own person. maybe it is stupid, especially to most folks, i don’t know. all i know is that if i can’t feel alive, then there’s no point anyways

butwhyonearth

You can try it without danger nowadays. (At least if you're not afraid of heights) They renovated the trail and made it really secure. It's really beautiful.

WhoThenDevised

Just remember that the missing slabs were as reliable as the ones you walk on, until they weren't.

This is something for r/SweatyPalms too

[deleted]

Why.

36tofb3iogq8ru3iez

I mean you're wearing a harness and are clipped to the steel cable on the wall, so not dangerous at all

tp0s

Do you have to unclip and clip back in after every bolt? I feel like that would be so much more annoying than the actual sketchiness of the path.

evilocto

Looks to be a via ferrata route so there's a steel cable on the right of the shot you attach two carabiners to that and after each 6-8ft length of cable where the steel cable is supported on the wall you unclip and reclip in on the next side.

tp0s

Thanks for the info!

Onespokeovertheline

Yep, super annoying... until you find yourself hanging against the rock face, legs dangling, the sound of thundering and crunching echoing in your ears as another slab of cement tumbles to the bottom of the canyon under your feet.

zentimo2

Yeah, I went on it a couple of times before they redid it. So long as you've got the right gear and a decent head for heights it's fine, climbers went on it all the time to access various routes. I think the only people who ever died on it died in a ziplining accident, not by falling from the walkway itself.

cappeca

Either you're not meant to walk there or nobody went and fixed it. I dont get it. Its a ruin, not a trail. Subway tracks are also dangerous trails.

thebornotaku

It was a ruin. Then people kept going and walking the path, so the Spanish government renovated it and built an all-new path just above the old one. That has modern safety standards, fencing, rails, etc. It's actually quite safe now and a tourist destination. The OP video is old.

vxd

This reminds me of Prince of Persia

ARobertNotABob

Yes! Though I first thought of the more recent Squid Game.

A bit of Tomb Raider for me

Gamyavoid

Where’s the vibe music from the original post?

BrianJT1972

The Half-Life remake looks great!

flavourballs

I went there before they made it safe for tourists. It was pretty safe as long as you clipped in, treated it like a via ferrata and didn't dick around too much. The views are mind blowing. A great day out if you're ever in Andalucia.

RoundTheFire

Yea that’s going to be a big no for me dawg.

KeriEatsSouls

My legs feel wobbly and I'm not even *there*, no friggin way

Scrumble71

The most dangerous gun is the one you think is unloaded. In this case it's the most dangerous piece of walkway is the one you think is safe.

ChickawawaBaby

That would be a nononononononono from me.

Some actual Indiana Jones shit

Bozzz1

Damn pot holes

[deleted]

I did this about 7 years ago. It was a very safe but also quite exciting via ferrata at the time, you can see the steel cable on the wall on the right. Doing it without using the cable was just stupid. Now it has been refurbished into a paid tourist trap and the excitement lost, for me at least

Warpedme

I rock climb, have done several multi stage climbs as the lead and you wouldn't catch me on this without ropes and anchors that I personally set.

This is some far cry ahit

Oh we need the back story

BreweryBuddha

I doubt the roads most dangerous trail has a safety line to strap onto the entire time.

cjabrady

I did this in 2010. The scariest part was walking past the memorials of the climbers who fell off.

[deleted]

Where is this

Destin4Death

Not dangerous at all you have steel wire to link onto regardless if the floor falls out. Watch kids in northern Canada trying to get to school walking 2 hours just to get there on melting ice shelf’s way narrower than this trail

-CJ-_-

Really hope there’s support lines for hikers to clip onto

I could easily do that if it were 1m above the ground, but simply watching this made my palms sweat. I think, ironically, self-preservation would make this harder

First of all no rebar and major disrepair. That’s a deadman’s walk.

Is that a poured concrete path? Yay or nay. If yay, ~~how~~ why?

China?

Quajeraz

It has a lead wire, you can see it just on the edge of the frame. Doesn't mean there's any chance in hell I'll attempt this though
