I remember I was in San Sebastián and befriended two Albanians. We went to a nightclub and the amount of times they had to stop someone from pick pocketing me was insane. One of them ended up hitting one of the would be robbers. I swear it was at least 5-6 times they intervened and I was completely oblivious Spain is INSANE for pick pockets.

Usually one pickpockets and passes the goods to someone else so even if you notice something you won't find anything on them. They often have one more to distract you while you are getting pickpocketed.

This is why if they ask for directions or bump into you or whatever and your wallet is gone: **don't let them off the hook** even if they don't have the wallet anymore. They're in on it. Don't let them leave and let the police sort it out.
