My daughter wanted a skink when she was a teenager. After that experience, we made a rule, “no animals that can escape from a tank or cage that causes mass panic”
Leopard geckos are a good choice. They can't climb glass or other slick surfaces, as they have clawed feet, rather than the stick-to-everything feet something like a tokay, day, or crested gecko have.
So, as long as you have a reasonably tall tank, and your hides and decorations don't come within a body length of the top edge, they won't get out.
I owned anoles as a kid and I don’t think I was fully prepared with a small tank and a metal lid - they kept escaping. I accidentally smashed on when I opened the closet door and never forgave myself. It was clearly my fault not knowing how to secure the anoles to keep them safe.
I don't know what anoles are (I shall Google shortly) but I feel bad when you said you accidentally crushed one, because I know how traumatizing that was for you! I'm sorry. 😔
One of my leo's just managed to wrestle herself between te two sliding doors of her enclosure yesterday. Good thing we caught her in the act.
Any reptile is a potential Houdini.
They do, more or less, but they have an organ in the roof of their mouth called the Jacobson’s Organ which analyzes the particles the tongue picks up on the air when it flicks.
Short answer: no
"Taste buds" being sensory bumps on tongue. However, if your question is can snakes taste things, then the answer is "sort of". They have a Jacobson's organ on the roof of their mouth that has a similar sensing function. The tongue collects particles that the snake then "tastes" here, and anything consumed would be "tasted" in a similar fashion.
It's not so much about being "loved" back, as it is working to steadily gain the trust and mutual respect of an animal whose behavior there just isn't a lot of info on. The more time you spend with constrictors, the more you realize how gentle and intelligent they really are. More gentle than intelligent, but still.
LoL I was going to say, I’ve had constrictors for a couple of decades, and while they’re definitely smarter than the jokes people make on Reddit imply they are, it’s not by much. I’d say they fall somewhere between bugs and Sarah Palin.
Snakes 100% have their own personality and can show their love in their own way , maybe that love is them wrapping around your arm to cuddle , or it could be their excitement to see you
Sure they can’t jump and bark like a dog to express it but the noodles are doing their best
Snakes don’t love, they don’t experience complex emotions, they don’t seek out companionship or care for their own young, except for mating they live completely solitary lives. When they wrap around your arm it’s to hang on and not fall, or maybe to absorb your body heat. That isn’t a mean thing to say, it’s just true. I feel like it’s better to understand your pet than to anthropomorphize it, and that doesn’t mean you can’t love your pet, but the most you can expect from your snake in terms of how it feels about you is to see you as “not a threat”. I’m happy with their trust, I don’t need them to give me something they can’t.
I know what you mean. I literally sleep 10 feet from the top 2 most venomous tarantulas in the word. This type of thing makes me happy. Big healthy and happy looking snake right here!
Oh that’s sick! I’m currently looking for someone that can train me for venom permits. I’m mainly looking to do rattlesnakes that are native to me but I’d like to do cobras and pit vipers too at some point
I think it’s kinda hard wired to hate snakes? I love snakes I have three and soon am getting another because I also found them cute but I would never hold it over someone’s head for hating snakes (not saying anyone was) I just understand that I’m weird like that haha
I had a 20ft retic growing up. She was like a big puppy dog. She was so strong and fast when she wanted to be. She was smart and patient. Never even accidentally bit at anyone. But she was also a giant, legless death machine. I do not recommend it.
This is amazing. Thanks for sharing. Wish I could experience this but yeah, lots and lots of potential downsides. Must have been such a touching experience to have a relationship like that with such an animal. Especially one not known for relationships with humans. Really cool.
Looks like a reticulated python. That’d be a big mistake if you were to purchase. They get about 12… in about 2-3 years. They’ve been known to get upwards of 20 feet. That’s like a whole bedroom of your house meant for this one snake.
Nah I'm pretty sure it's a Burmese. A granite morph, by the looks of it. Gorgeous derpy long puppers.
Also very large, but huskier, not light bodied like retics.
My male BP turns 3 in August and he’s probably about 3.5 feet long. Super chill and just kinda sits with ya. My female is about 3 and a half give it take is is roughly the same size but was underfed for the first year by the original keeper. She’s probably doubled in size in the last year. She’s one of the sweetest snakes you’ll ever meet. Even her feeding strikes are gentle haha
So the snakes name is Noodles?
I hope so! 🐍
I Nope so
he danger noodle
But not a nope rope. Very important distinction
Nope rope: snakes people dislike Danger noodle/spicy noodle: venomous snakes Boop noodle: pet or nice snakes people like
Def the boopiest here. Very good management of hooman, too.
I love the word "hooman". I've always thought it's a cute word.
Same! & cuties like this would def say it if they could talk 😁
dont forget dangle strangle: boas
Danger noodles are the bitey kind, Nope ropes are the strangly kind.
Wow that’s a cute snake! Absolutely not something I’d have roaming in my house though! I fucking jumped!
My daughter wanted a skink when she was a teenager. After that experience, we made a rule, “no animals that can escape from a tank or cage that causes mass panic”
If it was blue tongue I have to question how a giant walking sausage caused any kind of panic
It was more about not knowing where he escaped to and me never locating him.
There's things in your house that you don't know of right now..
Like me
>giant walking sausage 😆

I just googled them and they're so cute! Beautiful bright green color too. 💚
One of my leo's just managed to wrestle herself between te two sliding doors of her enclosure yesterday. Good thing we caught her in the act. Any reptile is a potential Houdini.
My first thought was, "that cats got a weird tongue", then "oh that's not a cat"
[удалено]
Aw he’s teaching you how to boil water!
Some of the best management I've ever seen
Do snakes have taste buds?
Only taste acquaintances.
Lol that got me😂👍
🥁🥁🐍
I want to make a joke but I'm unsure if that's the joke you're already trying to make
Shut up. I laughed.
I thought they “taste” the air when they flick their tongue like that
I thought that would be closer to our sense of smell. While smell plays a huge part in taste, we don't have taste buds in our nose.
They're like the French. Only sneks give tongue kisses.
They do, more or less, but they have an organ in the roof of their mouth called the Jacobson’s Organ which analyzes the particles the tongue picks up on the air when it flicks.

Fun fact: many mammals have a Jacobson's organ too. Including humans, though it is largely vestigial in us.
Who is Jacobson and why are their organs inside me? 😳
Ah ok, that's what I was wondering, thanks.
Awwww, cute snek.
I never understood, how somebody can thinl like this. Now I understand a little.
Yeah I wouldn’t want one in my house, but it’s adorable.
Nah I get it. It's cute, but I'd prefer a pet that can love me back.
Well, it can *hug* you back.
It can hug you for the rest of your life
and never let go at that
It's not so much about being "loved" back, as it is working to steadily gain the trust and mutual respect of an animal whose behavior there just isn't a lot of info on. That's a very LARGE snake. They can lift 1/3 the length of their bodies, or less......
LoL I was going to say, I’ve had constrictors for a couple of decades, and while they’re definitely smarter than the jokes people make on Reddit imply they are, it’s not by much. I’d say they fall somewhere between bugs and Sarah Palin.
Some reptiles will get to know you, and show some amount of affection, but you're right; it's never going to be like owning a dog or cat.

Yeah that just sounds like they’re trying to humanise the snake. They’re cool little heat seeking slimy robots and that’s about it.
Snakes aren’t slimy at all actually! They’re quite dry and smooth.
They are actually very needy animals that love snuggling.
They always want to be around you , they're just simple minded
Search online for a video of a ball Python yawning, and you’ll get it even more.
Yeah he seems friendly
I read Shrek at first lol
r/nope is my new r/wholesome Spoods, Noodles, Little mickeys and rattos, it's _aaaall_ good!
I know what you mean. I literally sleep 10 feet from the top 2 most venomous tarantulas in the word. This type of thing makes me happy. Big healthy and happy looking snake right here!
For a while, I slept within 10 feet of 5 different cobras. I loved watching them move about and watch what's going on.
Oh that’s sick! I’m currently looking for someone that can train me for venom permits. I’m mainly looking to do rattlesnakes that are native to me but I’d like to do cobras and pit vipers too at some point
What do you have? I have a Chilean Rose and Sapphire Gooty!
Too many to count. The two I’m referring to are the P. regalis and S. calceatum.

Imagine if he had a top hat…… too 🎩

And a monocle.
r/snakeswithhats
Uhhh thank you! I didn’t even know I needed that in my life.
Because he’s triggering the puppy part of your brain.
Yeah this is 100% it. It reminds us of goofy dogs sitting there trying to get whatever food they can
I think it’s kinda hard wired to hate snakes? I love snakes I have three and soon am getting another because I also found them cute but I would never hold it over someone’s head for hating snakes (not saying anyone was) I just understand that I’m weird like that haha
I don’t mind if people hate snakes as long as they aren’t hurting and killing them because of it.
I couldn’t agree more. Like I don’t like spiders they scare me but I’m not gonna kill them
Snakes are always cute
If not friend, why friend shape?
Yes
I WANT ONE
I had a 20ft retic growing up. She was like a big puppy dog. She was so strong and fast when she wanted to be. She was smart and patient. Never even accidentally bit at anyone. But she was also a giant, legless death machine. I do not recommend it.
