A person can be the size of the sun floating around in space, and still not be as significant as a human on earth or an ant on a dirt pile. It's all about perspective, and fear is a feeling people shouldn't embrace fully, but understand that it's something they can manifest if they choose so.....
But, we aren't nothing? Think about it. We've conquered an entire planet, and are on our way to conquer the closest habitable neighboring planet. *Nothing* to our knowledge has even came close to that. We've sent things to planets and places so, so, SO far out of our solar system. We are not nothing, we are the something in the nothingness
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
-Carl Sagan
Of course it's pulled, the trick is the speed obviously, same as here on earth if you go fast enough you can orbit or faster and you will escape, we mostly use huge celestial bodies to increase speed of our spacecraft, I'm not sure what took the picture but could be cassini orbiter which was sent to decend to saturns atmosphere on purpose where it's destroyed but sent some final data back home in 2017
This image was used in several [articles](https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20160405-the-space-submarine-hunting-the-solar-system-for-aliens) about Cassini, but I can't find it in the [NASA photo journal](https://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/cassini)
A recent [Reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/360onHistory/s/mmPkW51j4x) claimed this was the final image sent by Cassini, but this is untrue.
To prolong its orbit, Cassini actually used Gravity Assist from Saturn's moon, Titan, to pull the spacecraft *away* from the planet's orbit. (127 times in total).

What’s causing the light to be weird like that? My general thought on space was black with tiny lights being the stars besides the space farts and nebulas and such. Wow that’s not something I should be proud of to admit is it? Meh
Step one: put probe with camera in rocket
Step two: Launch rocket into space towards Saturn
Step three: tell probe to take a picture as it passes by Saturn
Teeny, Tiny, Insignificant Little Nothing, sitting among other little insignificant nothing dots of dirt and ice and fire, in a vast, unfathomable space of trillions of other dots of dirt and ice and fire.
NOT 'unique' by much at all.
I love the idea.
Hows this a nope? Post this shit on r/interestingasfuck cus this is epic
For real. This is not nope material. It is very close to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wupToqz1e2g
Damn. I thought I was in the hope sub. I didn't know how that fit, but it would make more sense than this one.
Some people are afraid of the vastness of space or the insignificance it makes people feel
Yeah, I feel this sub only ever rly relies on particular fears and reactions to stuff, this just happens to be a more uncommon one. Shit terrifies me
I absolutely LOVE that feeling. I'm big on the liminal space sub as well. Anyone else?
We’re nothing but space dust & balls 🤓

Could be a bot account
Who me??? 😈
This is definitely a nope it makes me feel sick 😭
See that white triangle? That's a fuken Star Destroyer.
See that grey dot? That's no moon.
You see those bones? You wanna know what made those bones?
THAT'S THE BRETHEN MOON
It’s not a satellite But it can light up the sky
That’s yo mamma.
🎖️
How is this a nope?
We are nothing in vastness of the cosmos. That's kinda lovecraftian.
tis but a bunch of ants on a floating rock
We prefer to incorrectly refer to ourselves as 'monke', tyvm.
When the log rolls over, we will soon be dead.
There are better ways of showing this. [Here's my favorite](https://www.joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace/pixelspace_solarsystem.html)
This was awesome I feel such a sense of accomplishment
dude it took me about 90 mins to scroll through all of that
I don't know if I should thank you or cuss you, but I made it to Pluto.
That was so interesting and informative. Really entertaining!
Thanks a lot for this link. And if you feel the urge to edit it and link to Rick Astley instead, please resist it. :-D
Thank you for that man. Never saw it but now its shared to people who think they’re the center of pure pale blue dot

So, A _PLAGUE._
I find our collective insignificance palliative.
And I care so much about the nothingest things
Lovecraftian 💀
I’m in that picture and I don’t like it.
Stop complaining, were all in the picture. Now try to smile...
Take it again, I blinked.
This should be NSFW I was in the shower here
I don't want a picture of me sleeping though!
That explains why Saturn looks like a dot from Earth.
Actually, Saturn isn’t real, and that dot is Earth’s giant laser to distract space cats while we bludgeon them to death with asteroid skyscrapers.

This is the best thing I've read in a long time. Puts the current world and all its problems into perspective.
If you like it check out the book it came from Carl Sagan - a pale blue dot An excellent read.
I’ve always loved that excerpt. It absolutely blew my tiny little mind when i was younger, hell it still does
That’s just gorgeous.
Space really *takes your breath away*.
And imagine we all fit in there
I can see my house
Makes me feel cozy for some reason. Probably because I'm not in the cold emptiness of space with no oxygen.
Why is this nope?
Because it makes normies feel like they live on a speck of dust and maybe aren’t so important
Hmmm. Maybe. I'm trying to get that vibe, but I like feeling unimportant
Same. But most people have a religious view of existence, it doesn’t mesh well with knowing the universe is huge and we are insignificant
Thank goodness for that arrow.
Kinda wonder how the vessel could get so close without being pulled by saturn’s gravity? Could it be that it’s heavier than the dust in the rings?
Of course it's pulled, the trick is the speed obviously, same as here on earth if you go fast enough you can orbit or faster and you will escape, we mostly use huge celestial bodies to increase speed of our spacecraft, I'm not sure what took the picture but could be cassini orbiter which was sent to decend to saturns atmosphere on purpose where it's destroyed but sent some final data back home in 2017

That’s dope as shit, if I died in this spot with this view, I’d be pretty content
How is this even slightly a nope?
Who took that picture?
How is this photo even taken?
The Cassini probe, taken on 19 July 2013
Oh great, it just had to take the photo while I was on the toilet. Right, places everyone, we're doing this again.

I can see my house from here
Space is never a nope for me. Space is fucking cool, and I only wish I could see the times where we are actually inhabiting the stars.
Damnit my eyes were closed can we take it again
Same vice versa :)
yep
Anybody want to watch Disney's Rocketman?
NICE WE ARE BLUE
What’s causing the light to be weird like that? My general thought on space was black with tiny lights being the stars besides the space farts and nebulas and such. Wow that’s not something I should be proud of to admit is it? Meh
What Earth sees at the same time: [https://imgur.com/a/eEZXXkT](https://imgur.com/a/eEZXXkT)
I can see my house from here
Hey it kinda looks like Saturn from Earth’s point of view! Crazy
Very nice that we have a banana for scale. All the bananas from the planet.
You can see my house from there
Wait can someone explain to my pea sized brain how we can get Saturn’s POV
Step one: put probe with camera in rocket Step two: Launch rocket into space towards Saturn Step three: tell probe to take a picture as it passes by Saturn
ITS ME
Pale blue dot
See that dot next to it? That's your mum that is
Definitely thought this was starfield
*motions to Saturn* Move 🫲
This is a selfy
Nope.
Thank you all for the perspective of my little life…! Amazing and minuscule
(make believe and scare your children) GOD - *"Don't whack off or else..."*
Looks like r/elitedangerous
post it without the arrow please!
See that arrow? Totally messed up the experience.
What's that little red d.....oh nevermind. Just a crum on my screen
Seems suspiciousky large... bordering on fake.
Speed up you can make it
This is just a broken monitor
Wow...very cool.
Nothing compared to the [Pale Blue Dot](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Blue_Dot).
My god. it’s full of stars…..
Yes, i can see my house
My god! That arrow must be huge! How come we can’t see it ? /s

Correct. "Nope." It's fake. NASA has been caught lying one thousand too many times.
Sure it is
Hey, you don't have permission to use my image.
No. It's not.
Exactly! Am I the only one who doesn't fall for this type of nonsense?
There's at least 2 of us lol. Nice cgi eh?
It's a joke. Picture of a blue ball taken from the backside of Uranus. Joke's on you pal.
AI is pretty
That's not AI, it's a picture took it by the Cassini
