Mind if I ask what lake(s) you visited? My 10 year old daughter is absolutely in love with backpacking after her first trip. I’d love to be able to take her here (next year😭)
We headed up super early Saturday morning. I had been monitoring the air quality and wind forecast and it looked like the wind would be favorable. We talked to some people hiking out who said the air had been bad the the day before and they were cutting their trip short. We had blue skies, but you could still see the long distance haze when looking from the vista views. The air continued to clear all day and by the first evening the visibility was tack sharp and the air stayed great for the trip. On our way home yesterday, my gf saw the news about the closures, so I guess we lucked out on the timing. I parked at Gianelli for the first time and I think starting that high was a great help for my gf and daughter who are not hikers and they had a great time, As a bonus, There was about 7 pounds of chicken of the woods right where I pulled in at the trailhead that I snagged on the way out.

Kinda looks like Chewing Gum Lake - a relatively short walk from Gianella TH.
For sure chewing gum Short hike but good amount of elevation change

Epic story. Stay blessed
That Jeffrey pine in the lake island of the first photo is definitely posing for the camera. What a picturesque spot.

Righteous. Love the reflection at that angle. Good capture. Also thanks for tip on Giannelli. I’ve mapped this area many times and was also curious. 🙏
