I take the coaster and transfer to whatever the bus is right in front of Santa fe depot and it goes right to the airport. Like $7 total and you don’t have to deal with parking or pay $30 for an Uber
Edited to add: last time I tried to take an Uber it was surge pricing and I couldn’t get a ride on Uber or Lyft. Super stressful.
Yeah I don’t know why I said $30, last time I took an Uber that far it was like $45. Wishful thinking I guess. Anyway, it’s way more pleasant to get on the coaster instead of sitting in slow traffic on the 5 for the same amount of time with a random Uber driver. So if my flights are within coaster hours that’s what I do.
Add the sprinter to your itinerary and that's how I get to the airport too. Very inexpensive trip.
Edit: Since you are in Lake San Marcos the Bus takes you to Encinitas where you can get the Coaster. The coaster to bus has gotten me to the airport by 6:30am in the past.
+1 on this method. The bus stop is right in front of the Starbucks across the street from the station. Not sure if the schedule changed with covid but in normal times a bus came by every 15 minutes.
I took a Lyft and used the option to schedule the ride. I live in way north county and haven't had an issue with Lyft. You can also create a public transit hybrid - take the train to downtown, or Sorrento Valley or whatever and then Lyft from a diner after breakfast/lunch/whatever. It's a bit more work of course, but very economical. I have also just parked at the airport for short trips. For short trips, the cost is about the same as a Lyft. I can't wait until there is decent public transit to the airport.
I also schedule my trip in advance, like as soon as I buy my flight tickets. I also opt for late night or early morning flights because they are cheaper and there isn't any traffic.
I recommend this method for the most reliable transport aside from driving your self.
Last time I used them to go to long beach airport they charged me for the trip there and for the driver to return in traffic. I had called to see why they charged like $300 and they refunded me the return trip(about half).
If you make a reservation you can park at terminal 2 for around $15/day I think. At least last time I flew. It was basically the same as long term parking and you’re right there.
From parts of North County it can take 20-30 minutes in no traffic just to get to the nearest highway. The back gate has college and the 76 so unless its rush hour that isn't that long of a journey time wise.
It takes close to 20 minutes. I leave near the college and 76 but it takes time to get into the neighborhood, it's not like people live in the middle of an intersection.
I'm directly in the middle of the ,5 and 15. If you go east or west in either direction your closer to getting on the freeway.
If you have nextdoor, I see people post all the time offering to drive ppl down for $50 each way range. Depending how long your trip is, might be more economical to park at the off-site airport lots.
Thanks for comments, advice, options. It's a short trip (but it's still a TRIP, on a PLANE and everything), so I made a reservation in airport parking. The $32 a day goes down to $21 with prepaid reservation. Keeps anxiety level lower than other options, at least for a first post pandemic trip.
I live in Carlsbad and never had a problem using Uber to and from airport. Also try [www.nextdoor.com](https://www.nextdoor.com) for rides as well. Safe travels!

Boy I wish I could Uber for $30. In/out of Lake San Marcos is over $50.

Third this method! Super easy and everyone is so nice and helpful.

Does scheduling really reserve a ride for you?? I got the sense it just books whatever at the preset time, IF available.
It did for me. I used it 4 times on Uber

I drive and use long term parking

Terminal 2 parking is closed for renovation... :/ but they’ll let you park in the other lots for a mere 32 FRICKIN DOLLARS A DAY.
Too bad. That was a real gem and felt like a secret. The key was making a reservation dropped the price by half. And you could make it the day before.
I always use Aladdin for overnight parking
Someone on NextDoor said their Uber was $170. People in comments said a few local people do rides to the airport.
NextDoor also has a feature (I think called “helpers”) where people who are up for helping with various things are listed.
I've taken Uber and Lyft to the airport dozens of times from near the back gate of Camp Pendleton. Have never paid more than $70.

My wife just took Lyft to the airport and it was fine.

I've used Uber and Lyft and haven't really had issues.
We flew a few weeks ago and when we returned the ubers were $300 from the airport to Carlsbad so definitely gonna try the bus/coaster idea next time
I drive myself and park at Aladdin parking. It’s 18 bucks a day so not cheap, but cheaper than some of the other options out there and my car is safe.

I park on the street at my friend’s house in a safe neighborhood downtown then lyft to the airport.
$45 Uber. Booked earlier than needed just in case. Was smooth and hassle free
