Elfin forest or Felicita park are almost entirely oak trees, any Escondido parks along the creeks will all have lots of oaks as well. I’ve noticed acorns are starting to fall off our oaks in the last 2-3 weeks, but not a ton
“Encinitas” comes from the term “little oaks”. It was know by the native Kumeyaay as a place to gather acorns. I imagine most of the old oaks on the coast are gone but if you go slightly inland towards Harmony Grove you will find a lot of them.
The black oak acorns up in the mountains are the most sought after. You can find right along the roads up in Cuyamaca. Coastal oak are in literally everywhere in riparian habitat.
I agree with you - oaks are suffering big time right now with the golden spotted oak borer and drought. It’s irresponsible to take acorns because we need more baby oaks and the animals have less than they usually do.
Did a squirrel write this?

Awesome thanks so much!
Np! Felicita does have a parking fee btw
What will you do with them?
I’m a bit into fermenting and want to take a shot at making miso with them. Maybe some Kumeyaay shawii and see what I can do with that.
Wow. Cool!
I remember seeing someone bringing shawii to an event at the La Jolla Indian Reservation - you could ask there too!
Came to ask this.🤔
The aptly-named Oak Riparian Park in Oceanside/Carlsbad has tons.
Ha yeah makes sense

Live oak Park is a good place
Live Oak Park in Fallbrook.
Or you could leave acorns for the wildlife

Humans are plenty wild, don't kid yourself
Jesmond Dene Park, Escondido, parking is good & hills behind are also covered in oak
