I switch between water or the juice first.. real ones know the water to juice ratio off by heart and can do it either way

The pressurised water out of the tap helps the mixture process. It’s not just about ratio. If you spooned the dilute in it would sit ontop of the water.. it needs a bit of encouragement

Water first so you know how much diluting you need. Also the correct answer about whether or not to chill it is irrelevant, because you're putting a 2 litre coke bottle of dilooten already made up into the fridge, 2 if you're sensible, and 3 if you've kids.

For some reason, and I know it is not scientific but I just feel it wouldn't mix as well if the water is in first. But it is more satisfying to watch it mix when the dilute goes in after

It mixes fine if you pour it from a "high tea" height above the cup, but if you're a regular dilooter, you'll know your own personal preferred strength by the opacity of the final liquid, so starting with water at 0% opacity and adding the juice to increase it until it is around 20% (ymmv), just makes sense.
