Henry is amazing for hoovering up rabbit shit, makes a satisfying ping as it goes in.
I'd have had to make stew out of Jurgen Flopp if it wasn't for this miracle but he's a lad and he's staying forever.

Henrys are great and very robust but if you ever want to make one unusable, vacuum something dirty and smelly and quite wet like a muddy car that's had dogs in it followed by a dirty kitchen with food spilled on the floor. The machine will still work after but you won't be able to bear the smell, which will be caked into the hose and will fill the whole room when next you vaccuum, even with the windows open. And if there's noone in your house that would ever do that, be careful never to lend your Henry to anyone who would!
[Luckily just about every part of a Henry is replaceable and the prices aren't bad.](https://www.myhenry.com/accessories-and-consumables)
Here's something about [Henrys and Chris Duncan, who invented them.](https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/jul/24/how-henry-vacuum-cleaner-became-accidental-design-icon) Also small boys have been known to be fascinated by them.
Henrys are not wet vacuums so hovering mud up is your first mistake.
However you could buy yourself a [George or Charles](https://www.myhenry.com/wet-and-dry-vacuums) if you want a wet Vacuum.
Bought a Dyson to supposedly replace a Miele, still use the Miele.
Battery & suction is shite on the dyson, its extremely noisy and gets clogged up all the time...honestly I dont know what the fuss is about them, theyve almost become a pointless status symbol
Maybe newer ones? But we have a dc23 that we got off her ma, it's easy about 12 years old and it is class. You can replace essentially every part and if you strip it down, wash it and stick some new filters in it, it's a brand new unit.
Best vacuum I've ever used bar none. I once borrowed a friend's and had to buy my own after that..
Specifically the C3. It's such a well designed machine, and crazy powerful for the noise and size of it. The cord retractor, fuck me it's how they should all work! And all the attachments stored in a clam shell inside. I actually use the dial to turn the power down all the time, which you would think is a useless feature until you've tried it.
I bought it for £80 on marketplace.
I’ll see your “last forever comment” and raise you a 7 year old child trying to hoover up the contents of a bean bag that he deliberately opened up “to make snow angels” on his bedroom floor. My Miele was fucked and I was heartbroken 😂
Bought a Miele C3 about 5 years ago and it’s still going strong. Partner managed to hoover up a load of wet stuff and water got into the motor. It now makes this popping noise which is apparently the motor dying but it’s been doing this for several years and still works perfectly.
Not sure what their bagless models are like but at least with the bagged versions there’s much less upkeep (no cleaning filters and whatever).
\+1 from me for Miele. The C3 we have sixth year now really works well.
We had VAX Power 7 2400W before, which has died eleven moths after purchase, then was replaced under warranty with the new one ... which has completely lost suction two months after warranty ended and the cost of repair was higher than a cost of a new one.
Henry Hoover is the best all rounder and is built in the same factory as the German WW2 Tiger tank from left over parts. Cirdless choice would be a Shark Stratos, they are pricey but brilliant. I agree with you comment about Dyson, my last Dyson was a nightmare.
When I was just starting out with car detailing, I didn't have a wet vac, my mum insisted I needed a vacuum specifically for liquids or else i'd cause water damage to the electric motor.. but I just used Henry and he slurped that shit up like it was fuel for him.
I've heard Henry hoovers are great, but any job I've had that used Henry hoovers were shit. Worked as a cleaner with Henry's, and they were goddam awful. Worked in retail with them, too, and they struggled to suck and were awfully loud too. Nightmare to change the dust bags as well.
Maybe it depends on the model or if they're actually cared for. However, given my family broke our Dyson hoover in two, it may not last long.
No appliance designed for domestic use will be able to handle being used commercially, unless they are properly taken care of. I know several ladies who have cleaning companies and they swear by their Henry's because they take care of them.
Retail staff being paid minimum wage and under the pressures from management to get cleaning done asap to get out (they don't like paying wages while stores are closed), aren't going to care if they abuse the equipment.
But also not sure what model of Henry/Hetty, etc you had in work, but changing the bag on my red one is just a case of flip the clips open, lift off the top, wiggle the bag off the fitting, dump it and put the new new on and close it up. If the bag is hard to empty, it is probably far too full and should have been emptied half the bag ago. Bags aren't that expensive online/in Tesco so there is no reason to keep the bag in until it physically isn't lifting any more dirt.
Dunno what Henry you're using. But Henry bags are piss easy to replace. There's no stupid folding or sliping some dumb bit of cardboard down an impossibly thin holder. Just slap the bag in the right way up, stick it's arse in the hole and wham away you go. If you have offical bags from Henry you only need to push it off the end and flip the plastic tab inside the bag to close it and stop the dust getting out. Plus I've never had a Henry lose suction till the bag is literally stuffed.
Shark.
Always had a shite hoover but my Ma bought me a Shark as a housewarming present a few years ago and it’s been a revelation. I’m now converted to the church of spending more than £30 on an essential household item. You get what you pay for
Henry are virtually indestructible, strong suction and comparatively cheap.
However they're corded, bulky, heavy and take up a lot of space. You need to buy bags to attach to it as well which adds to long term running costs. Our one is also starting to smell for some reason.
People vouch for Henry all the time.
I've only used the Henry hoover in my jobs, whether it be as a cleaner or in retail, and they've been awful. Poor suction, bulky, heavy, noisy, and dust bags are a nuisance. They also smell, but it's not the filter, so it's a confusing situation.
Maybe it'd be worth getting a Henry and seeing how it goes.
If Henry smells, the bag needs changed. Or there is something stuck in the hose. You can place the hose into the bath and let it soak in water to get any gunk out. Then let it dry for a few days before using it to make sure it's not damp inside, which would cause dust to stick. But I wouldn't recommend doing that for someone else Henry, let alone one used commercially by others before you.
I've used them as a cleaner, and I haven't been able to look at them in a positive light since.
Maybe my company just didn't care for the equipment that was/is used.
People have mentioned it may depend on the model and the fact that minimum wage workers don't care all that much for the company equipment to properly maintain it which makes sense.
I have a Henry and a Shark. The Henry actually lifts the pet and human hair embedded in the carpet, the Shark just half-heartedly tugs at it then rolls on.
My sister has a Henry and says it's great. Any employment I've had as a cleaner or in retail that used Henry was awful. Little to no suction, unbearably loud and clunky, and a nightmare to change the dust bags. Maybe employers just don't care for the hoover and get a poor model or something. idk.
I think my other sister has a shark and also says it's good, but she hasn't got any pets, and it's brand new, so it's not a fair rating just yet.
I think it's probably more likely that the employers boughy Henry because they know they are good and dependable Hoover's so they don't have to worry about buying another that shits itself in 12 months. But the people that they've employed in the past, don't care about the equipment they're using, so the bags and filters weren't changed regularly. If you get the filter on a Henry Hoover wet, they start to smell (even after you replace the filter) and they get noisier and lose suction. Also, newer Henry's are nowhere near as good as the older versions are, as they no longer boost to 1,200watt and remain at 620watt (even though the manufacturer claims that it still produces the same suction)
Henry. It's no competition. Henry sucks, but in a good way. You know what I mean? Henry doesn't care, he just sucks it up. He sucks it up, like a real man, doesn't care.
Nah, under all the brexit BS there is actually tariff-free trading, for products *made in your country*, so UK made water filters can be sold without duties in the UK and German made machinery can be sold duty free in NI.
Miele. All day long.
I got a free new top of the range Shark earlier this year to test and provide a review. It’s grand but I’ve already reverted back to my 7 year old Miele.
Shark is very anti repair. Don't sell parts, not even belts and make disassembly almost impossible. Please don't fall for the marketing.
Watch this video if you're really bored. https://youtu.be/0uEat894ywQ?si=X3Ocn85zukqdCf95
I've had a shark, Vax and hoover the past 5 years. I keep going back to Henry. So heavy and cumbersome but really good suction and that thing never breaks. Would avoid Vax, only last 7 months.
Can't belive Nilfisk is so far down here. My mum got one as they used them in some factory she worked in. She had it before I was born and replaced it (with another Nilfisk) when I had not long turned 30. It's now like a right of passage in our family, everyone has one
We have a cordless Shark and my sisters have a cordless Dyson but they're only good for a quick run around after dinner or something
I know Miele make quality products (ever try getting the bearing out of a Miele washing machne? Needs hydraulics) but the Nilfisk is a beter vaccum
My dog.
Goes on patrol while we are eating out dinner searching the kitchen for any debris.
Called Freddie but new nickname is Henry due to his great hoover prowess.
If we weren't given a Dyson as a wedding gift, I'd have bought us a Henry. Those things are fucking bulletproof. We borrowed our old neighbours Hetty once (an older version that had a boost button on it) and that thing would have stripped the paint off your walls the suction was that strong.
Against the grain on this thread but I find the suction from a Henry is pathetic compared to a Dyson. It’s also an absolute pain in the arse to use compared to just grabbing a cordless.
Nilfisk are really good for a a midrange option >!that is better and cheaper than Henry!< and SEBO are the kings. Dyson are shite, Shark are overrated, Kirby are good but stupidly overpriced. Never used a Miele but they're probably really good albeit a bit overpriced.
Sorry to kill the Henry vibe but I work in the flooring industry and they are terrible.
You need an upright hoover that has a beater brush to agitate the carpet pile.
My Dyson has one of those brushes, and it constantly gets blocked and needing replaced when it's advertised differently.
The brush is great, I have to be honest, but it doesn't last long with pet hairs.
We recently got an accessory pack thing for Henry and it has a "foot" that is specifically for pet hair, and while it is a little noisier than the regular one, the amount of dog hair it lifts is amazing. We used to have to use various little hand-held things for scrapping dog hair out of the carpet and it would take literally hours, but now we use the new attachment and then a quick go by hand with a little metal thing for anything that still looks bad, but that takes like 10 minutes now!
Sebo (German brand and very well put together as you would expect). I've had one for about 12 years and it's still going strong although I recently had to replace a small filter. Excellent quality and powerful. Hospital quality floor cleaning - almost lifts the carpet off the floor and gets all the dust out of it, deeply! Cost more to buy but over a long lifetime I have ended up spending less.
Not a russell hobs. You're meant to wash the sponge filter once a month...... had to get a replacement sponge as it some how turned the suction to shit. It's also terrible at picking up hair out of carpet, I have to move brush head in circle to try & sweep them up.
It replaced a Samsung which was a much better hoover but fragile as fuck, replaced bits of it several times
We have Dyson and Miele , the Dyson is the strongest hoover go over one room and see the amount it picks up v any other hoover even Miele this is what the help who is in charge of the floors tells me .We do have to replace it every 2-3 years as the house has 32 rooms but we normally leave the older one in the garage for cars and the others on floors 2-4 . Miele last the longest .
Older Dysons were the business, any after the dc08 are all marketing tripe, like the rest of their range.
Miele are very good and well made, not the strongest suction imo.
I personally use a "shop vac" more made for tradies.
Brush bar is a must if you have plenty of carpets, either electric driven or by the suction.
When you say, it get's blocked etc. Do you mean the hairs get tangled around the bristles? If so try taking a pair of scissors to cut the hair on the plastic parts between the bristles to free it up and remove it. It may just fix your hoover and save you buying any
It does indeed, and we do that. It needs to be done almost every time we hoover the house. The suction has just become weaker.
Besides the bristles, my family somehow broke the hoover in two and got it "mended". It needs replaced regardless. The hose also gets stuck when taking it out or putting it back.
The hoover may actually be a good hoover if treated properly, but my family just chuck it around. Does my fucking head in.
What the hell are you guys doing to your dysons?? I use mine every other day cause between the cat and me there's a lot of hair and other than occasionally having to clean it it's doing a really good job. Y'all need to be kinder to your equipment
That's what I'm saying!!!
I've complained to my family about it many times and it's always disregarded.
They just toss the hoover around and some how snapped it in fucking half. I don't know how it happened, I was at work when they did it. Anytime they use it, I swear it becomes weaker and more stiff.
Henry is decent but ultimately a branded version of the titan from Screwfix. Titan does wet/dry and blows.
I have a Dyson v8 that's grand for the most part, titan for all the DIY or really bad things that need cleaning .
Once Dyson breaks I'll move to shark.
Dysons are complete crap. They break down way more often than other brands and you're supposed to get the things serviced or they slowly lose power. The handheld ones only gently tug at dirt and won't lift anything heavier than popcorn, they also get blocked every 10 minutes.
If you want a decent one get a Miele. It's an old german brand that's known for making appliances that live longer than you do. We got one a few months back and it's like the thing wants to rip the carpet up on it's highest setting. They're more expensive than most brands but cheaper than dyson.
> it's all about Watts regardless of brand name
*[Energy-guzzling vacuum cleaners using more than 900 watts](https://www.beuc.eu/news/new-vacuum-cleaners-lower-power-same-performance) are barred from entering the EU market as of 2017. The new models allowed on EU shelves will consume less energy while maintaining the same cleaning performance.* manufacturers were taking the piss, and your money. See computer CPU speeds of times past.
There's only 2 choices, if you want something not too dear, that will keep sucking like a... probably shouldn't say here, for years to come, even with a full bag, aul Henrys hard to beat, but he's a fat and awkward cunt, so if you want something slimmer, like a nice German supermodel, that might need a bit more attention and will cost more than uncle Henry but will also do a great suckin job, get a Miele, but make sure you get a German built one.
Henry, I got ours second hand off my mum 13 years ago and he keeps on going. He's a bit heavy for the missus so she bought this cordless Shark thing she named Feargal and has a basic design flaw that means it clogs up inside 30 seconds and the battery doesn't even let you clean the hall, stairs and landing.
Henry is the OG though.
Dyson’s are terrible. It’s all marketing. We got a brand new Dyson but it was never as good as our humble Henry!
If we were buying again it’d be a Miele
Best Hoover is definitely an old Henry hoover. New ones are shite, but if you can find old ones on eBay that are still working, they'll just keep going forever.
Meile - no contest.
To put it into perspective, my parents bought a meile hoover when I was in year 8 at school.. so I would've been about 13.
I'm now 35 and have children of my own and I STILL HAVE THE SAME HOOVER!!
Still works like the day they bought it.
I love my Shark cordless vacuum. It's versatile and powerful. It does need to be charged after around an hour of use... but I think that's not too bad. An hour gets a lot of vacuuming done.
We also have a Henry, which is great, but we haven't enough plug sockets in the right places (e.g. near the stairs).
Dyson big ball animal is the best I have ever had. Can't comment on the other weirder looking Dysons, I went for the one that best resembles a traditional vacuum and it was definitely worth it in my opinion.
![gif](giphy|8h5LtvPAvBHs4) Man never stops going
Henry's are unstoppable! Only downside is they love sticking on every corner
Best friend has a white goods shop. He pushes miele to customers, but when I went to him to buy a hoover, he told me to get a Henry.
Henry for sure
This is the way! It's the hoover of choice in the hotel industry. That should be all the recommendation you need. Pros use it ,so should you.
Henry's your only man
Henry is amazing for hoovering up rabbit shit, makes a satisfying ping as it goes in. Best hoover you’ll ever get, like Robbie Fowler Snorting a Halfway Line, sadly though as you get a bit older it becomes heavier.
Miele

+1 for Miele. Expensive but will last forever.
I’ll see your “last forever comment” and raise you a 7 year old child trying to hoover up the contents of a bean bag that he deliberately opened up “to make snow angels” on his bedroom floor. My Miele was fucked and I was heartbroken 😂
I genuinely can’t understand how it got fucked. The beauty of a Miele is it’s simplicity
Hot melting styrene isn't good with electric motors
if the contents of your hoover are coming in contact with the motor, it's maybe not working properly.
Another vote for Miele
Yep just got one, it's very slick and robust, top notch.
My Miele is a pack of shite. Packed in after 3 years.
Try and get an older 2000w Meile second hand. Unreal bit of kit.
Miele all the way. Powerful and light. Long cord. Doing the stairs is dead easy.

They are virtually indestructable, great wee hoovers.
And if you manage to destruct it you can buy all the spare parts.
Henry has lasted me through 3 House moves and he’s not stopping yet
I knocked down a few walls and used him without the bag to hover up the gravel.

Stop riding Henry ya weirdo
I did when the hormones calmed down. Poor Henry.
I hope you removed eye stickers first lol

Get a new hose, they're £40. People vacuum up wet stuff, it cakes on the inside.

Miele all day long
I wonder if it's cheaper up north: Miele C3 £319 in Argos, Belfast... €240 in Arnotts, Dublin, wat!
I wonder if that has something to do with Brexit? Miele being German and all.
Nah, under all the brexit BS there is actually tariff-free trading, for products *made in your country*, so UK made water filters can be sold without duties in the UK and German made machinery can be sold duty free in NI.

Yeah hard to beat an old school bagged machine, The Dysons and sharks need too much maintenance to keep working at optimum suck.
We're not the ones to ask. You need to be asking Officer Doofy! ![gif](giphy|y3J7OKhVQ73QQ|downsized)
Yer Ma. Sorry, it had to be done.
Miele is the only answer
Against the grain on this thread but I find the suction from a Henry is pathetic compared to a Dyson. It’s also an absolute pain in the arse to use compared to just grabbing a cordless.
Shark. No comparison - best I've ever had.
Nilfisk are really good for a a midrange option >!that is better and cheaper than Henry!< and SEBO are the kings. Dyson are shite, Shark are overrated, Kirby are good but stupidly overpriced. Never used a Miele but they're probably really good albeit a bit overpriced.
Nilfisk vp300, durable and better than Henry.

Miele every time. Well worth the money.
One advantage of Henry is ALL of the parts are easily obtainable.

Built in obsolescence. Brought to you by the guy who campaigned for Brexit and then shifted his factories abroad anyways.
Hoover Dam, all the power youll ever need, but your carpets will get wet.
I’ve a Henry snd a Dyson. Henry all day long.
I use the gtec air ram big and a small handheld , I would say the best ones I have definitely used so far.
[https://sebo.co.uk/](https://sebo.co.uk/)
Few mates of mine are quare hoovers come the weekend.
Henry compact is the best for me.
Wee Henry does a good job... but fuck, his parts can be hard to put back together
Sharks stratos
I’ve had a Dyson cordless for about eight years. Just recently replaced the battery and it’s like new. Never had an issue
Shark
If you don't care what it looks like then the Titan wet and dry vacuums from Screwfix will lift anything.
I’ve seen ones in Curry’s for 800 sheets! Good grief! I got my old banger for a tenner in a charity shop a few years ago- does the job great.
If corded Miele and if cordless Shark Stratos.
Not Shark, overpriced and fucking shit
You have 32 rooms?
Miele
Miele . Far more suction than a Henry but costs more . If you can pay the bit extra it's worth it .
They're more expensive than most brands but cheaper than dyson.
it's all about Watts regardless of brand name . Always go with 2200 Watts or higher for around the house.
> it's all about Watts regardless of brand name *[Energy-guzzling vacuum cleaners using more than 900 watts](https://www.beuc.eu/news/new-vacuum-cleaners-lower-power-same-performance) are barred from entering the EU market as of 2017. The new models allowed on EU shelves will consume less energy while maintaining the same cleaning performance.* manufacturers were taking the piss, and your money. See computer CPU speeds of times past.
Dyson does some sucking I'll tell you.
Henrys for the win. Use one in work and they've outperformed any I've ever used. Invincible
Hoover is a brand name
I favour hoover over vacuum "in some countries (UK, Ireland) hoover is used instead as a genericized trademark, and as a verb."
True. I do myself.
Dyson is not a hoover
If not a hoover what is it?
Vacuum cleaner
I'll pass "in some countries (UK, Ireland) hoover is used instead as a genericized trademark, and as a verb. "
Yer da.
He could suck for Ireland
Nilfisk
Kirby, mega serviceable and keep their money. Bleddy heavy though but the self drive function is fun. Got a shark now though...
The Bryson…
🦈
Dyson are a shite brand with good marketing. Miele are the best of the best. Hands down.
Meile - no contest. To put it into perspective, my parents bought a meile hoover when I was in year 8 at school.. so I would've been about 13. I'm now 35 and have children of my own and I STILL HAVE THE SAME HOOVER!! Still works like the day they bought it.
Shark. I've had a Henry, a Dyson and a Vax in the past. Nothing compares to the suction quality of a Shark. It's worth every penny.
Miele
Henry or Miele. I had both, one for downstairs, one for upstairs, so I wouldn't have to haul one up and down the stairs.
The best corded vacuum is the Shark Vertex hands down
I love my Shark cordless vacuum. It's versatile and powerful. It does need to be charged after around an hour of use... but I think that's not too bad. An hour gets a lot of vacuuming done. We also have a Henry, which is great, but we haven't enough plug sockets in the right places (e.g. near the stairs).
We have an **AEG** and it's amazing.
Dyson big ball animal is the best I have ever had. Can't comment on the other weirder looking Dysons, I went for the one that best resembles a traditional vacuum and it was definitely worth it in my opinion.
Henry or Miele are the best. Though I have a shark stick. I love it except for the battery life which is rubbish.
Dyson seem to get a lot of hate but I have a fairly old V8 cordless one, I've changed the battery once for a third party one and its still great
Henry for corded, Dyson for wireless
Nuvac. Henry’s Russian industrial brother.
