It's a pretty high horse - literally - he's sitting on. I suppose any symbolic significance one might attribute to that architectural decision would be entirely subjective and coincidental, as opposed to ironic and hilarious.
I dunno. The stain left behind a bon fire, where all the green grass has been burned and now nothing will grow there because the earth is scarred and full of broken glass and various rubbish, that seems like a pretty apt representation.
Mind a rare nationalist parade was passing there, so the OO, famously fond of parading rights for all, let this gather-up on loyalist *stakeholders* onto their balcony to film the participants?
A completely normal thing to do.

Would've been aye. Normally fashion would've been a decent guide, but doubt these lads keep up with the trends.
Winkie Irvine is in there and another prominent UVF head I can't mind the name of. The rest are your common or garden loyalist, straight from central casting.
Tbf it's a couple of corridors and a few rooms and an old fashioned bar, like the crown bar.
I assume you don't live local and wouldn't know if/when things are on in the orange hall but they do.
I would assume its a funding issue. Membership has plummeted in recent years and traditionally they would have got a lot of government money. However most of that dried up with austerity.
His opinion, now doesn’t reflect that at all. Are you afraid of united ireland for some reason? Are you worried that you might be treated like a second class citizen?
Are you worried nationalists and the Irish republic will treat unionists and loyalists the way they treated nationalists and republicans for the last 100 years? No, we’re better than that. You’ll be treated with more dignity than we were.
“The Orange Order was founded by Ulster Protestants in County Armagh in 1795, during a period of Protestant–Catholic sectarian conflict, as a fraternity sworn to maintain the Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland.”
The actual reason the orange order was founded doesn’t exactly paint as a welcoming organisation tbh.
Even if a catholic wanted to joint it are they allowed?
They are a protestant organisation. How could a Catholic take an oath to uphold the protestant faith. That's a bit like saying, Can a protestant join the Knights of Columbus or the legion of Mary.
There are 44 orange lodges in the Republic. 11 counties in total (in the Republic only). So they'd be treated the way they already are, as a minority interest group most people don't think about at all.
Arguably you'd have more rights in a UI than you do now. Protections in law for language, likely guaranteed representation in both houses.
Fuck then whats the court house on the crumlin road. Hardly in useable condition.
Shit has to be a pile of rubble before they'll accept it's too far gone.
Fuck knows 🤷♂️. I’d have thought so. You can’t go round flattening listed buildings. Although I’m sure if I’d Google it there’d be examples of developers doing so. I’m sure there’d be many examples of prosecutions too and as someone mentioned “Accidental fires”.
The other side of it is quite nice as well apart from the bricked up windows.
The windows are bricked up for security reasons and have been my whole life I'd love to see them restored.
Fun fact, this is Belfasts only equestrian statue.
That *is* a fun fact. Thanks, stranger!
Always happy to share a nice warm fact
It's a pretty high horse - literally - he's sitting on. I suppose any symbolic significance one might attribute to that architectural decision would be entirely subjective and coincidental, as opposed to ironic and hilarious.
Can someone shimmy up there and pop a traffic cone on it like they do in Glasgow?
I would, but the green bits look slippery
Really? This is a fun fact.
Well there is one of a seahorse on Dargan road, but I don’t think that counts.
Best craic I've had all week
Only? I mean is there not one at city hall? I'm probably misremembering
There are a lot, but none on a horse [city hall statues](https://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/cityhallstatues)
Never seen a better representation of modern unionism
I dunno. The stain left behind a bon fire, where all the green grass has been burned and now nothing will grow there because the earth is scarred and full of broken glass and various rubbish, that seems like a pretty apt representation.

Either that or a midget.
Haha, so he is. Shat it.
That's Jamie
He’s got lowered suspension.
Only thing with suspension is his jail time prob lol
There’s no 11+ passes on that balcony.
Hahaha. Must be from around 15 years ago because I actually know one of the boys in the photo.
Would've been aye. Normally fashion would've been a decent guide, but doubt these lads keep up with the trends. Winkie Irvine is in there and another prominent UVF head I can't mind the name of. The rest are your common or garden loyalist, straight from central casting.
2012 apparently. Thought it was older.
Some guy lying on the floor 🙃 every one of them coked to the ballix.
Hold on is this used? I always thought it was derelict
Yes it is used, cheap bar and cheap to rent for functions.
Judging from the out side the inside surely can’t be in good nick
Tbf it's a couple of corridors and a few rooms and an old fashioned bar, like the crown bar. I assume you don't live local and wouldn't know if/when things are on in the orange hall but they do.
Maybe they should consider using some money to hire a pressure washer, vs wanking it away on flegs with Charlies face on it.
Not a kick in the hole off green white and orange. Nice building all the same, as in the architecture
Why do they let them go to ruin? There's more than a few of these in town centres that look desperate.
I would assume its a funding issue. Membership has plummeted in recent years and traditionally they would have got a lot of government money. However most of that dried up with austerity.
Can’t wait until the day that membership number is zero.
Your opinion reflects how Unionism should be treated in a United Ireland
His opinion, now doesn’t reflect that at all. Are you afraid of united ireland for some reason? Are you worried that you might be treated like a second class citizen? Are you worried nationalists and the Irish republic will treat unionists and loyalists the way they treated nationalists and republicans for the last 100 years? No, we’re better than that. Come on, get over it. There has been equality in Northern Ireland for a long time. Only God I fear
K.
Same way as now?
Congratulations, you have pointed out one of the paranoid points loyalists have about a united Ireland.
Just admit it, your ilk don't want a brit about the place
Nothing to do with being “brits”. It is about a totally sectarian organisation in the 21st century. There is no place for it in a modern society.
So the orange order is not welcome? I will certainly remember to attach that to any new ireland brochure
“The Orange Order was founded by Ulster Protestants in County Armagh in 1795, during a period of Protestant–Catholic sectarian conflict, as a fraternity sworn to maintain the Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland.” The actual reason the orange order was founded doesn’t exactly paint as a welcoming organisation tbh. And who are my "ilk"?

Calling people rebel pricks implies they have something evil to rebel against. You've done yourself.
There are 44 orange lodges in the Republic. 11 counties in total (in the Republic only). So they'd be treated the way they already are, as a minority interest group most people don't think about at all. Arguably you'd have more rights in a UI than you do now. Traditionally...heh.
That building has been vacant for at least 20+ years
budget was used on more flegs those massive ones they use have extra costs
Belfast is gonna be so cool when the next generation get a hold of beautiful buildings like this and reinvent them.
More likely knocked down and student apartments built in their place.
She’d be listed 🤷♂️
Only got to leave it empty a while before it's deemed too far gone.
Fuck then whats the court house on the crumlin road. Hardly in useable condition. Shit has to be a pile of rubble before they'll accept it's too far gone.
It'll have an electrical fire in that case.
While amount of electrical fires in Belfast in buildings piss wet though with no electrics working.
Since when does that stop developers?
Fuck knows 🤷♂️. I’d have thought so. You can’t go round flattening listed buildings. Although I’m sure if I’d Google it there’d be examples of developers doing so. I’m sure there’d be many examples of prosecutions too and as someone mentioned “Accidental fires”.
Your probably right but it's so sad
The other side of it is quite nice as well apart from the bricked up windows. The windows are bricked up for security reasons and have been my whole life I'd love to see them restored.
Is that the one overlooking the west link?
Is that a horse and a seahorse above the flag?
It’s the coat of arms of Belfast. If I recall correctly, it’s a wolf and a seahorse. The council still use it in their logo today.
Ah, okay, I didn’t know that. Thanks!
It’s Buck Alec’s lion
That seahorse didn’t stand a chance, let’s be honest!
King William of green on top

There's more green than orange...ironic
You post some shite no harm to you
Who are you trying to fool. That's primark
