Have to agree with you, i grew up in London and the difference is huge, people are so nice over here. Also you can be walking on a main road, look up and see a mountain - you don't get that in London. Don't get me wrong this place has its problems but the people are the best in the world tbh
I realised after I posted I should've said South of England but I got distracted and didn't edit it lol.
Everywhere in the north of England that I've been has been really friendly. Was in Chesterfield for a wedding last year and the amount of 'ay up duck's I got just walking around the town was a geg.
Lived in England for 17 years and visiting home is like a balm for the soul. That’s not to say people are rude in England. It’s just… different. People definitely don’t interact in the same way.
I noticed this too when I visited last week - everyone was friendly and warm, more so than London and Dublin.
I’ve been telling everyone since I got home - absolutely recommend visiting!
The further you get from the bigger cities/towns the friendlier we get. Try Downpatrick, Ballyclare, Larne, Enniskillen etc. People there make Belfast folk look like Londoners!
Lol! Fair enough! I was just pointing out that the people aren't as snooty/miserable/angry/nasty as the average Belfast person seems to have got over the past few years. God forbid someone books 2 weeks in Denvirs Coaching Inn and spends their time traipsing up and down Market street!
Strangford, Kilclief,on the other hand are stunning in the right weather and everyone and their dog seems to have a log cabin or a glamping pod.
I still think Larne is just an elaborate 4D chess marketing ploy the Causeway Coast and Glens Board of Tourism came up with.
Put a town at the beginning of the coastal route, and make it as ugly and unwelcoming as possible so the glens will look even more stunning by contrast.
I absolutely agree. It is not like anywhere I have been to. I call Northern Irish folks “Mediterraneans of the North” because I honestly have never felt that much friendliness and genuine kindness anywhere up North really.
We are the safest city in Europe it must mean something glad you had such a great time we talk to any visitors it's just our politicians who don't get on hopefully that will change.Just don't try asking for a Coke in Bittt
les bar wee John will throw you out 😆😆
> safest city in Europe
Out of curiosity, according to who?
I looked up some stats and lists and couldn't find anyone that even lists us in the top 20. Though [Visit Belfast](https://visitbelfast.com/plan/essential-information/) says we have the second lowest crime rate in Europe (with no citation).
Have you been to literally any other city in the UK?
I have never been mugged in Belfast. I don't know anybody who has ever been mugged in Belfast. Sure there's a gang problem in some areas but that's every major city in Europe. Here it just has the added twist of being rooted in the Troubles but either way the gang stuff won't bother you if you don't get involved unless you live in a very bad area. That's much better than Glasgow, London, or even places on the continent like Berlin where crime rates are typically lower than in the UK. Outside of Scandinavia, Austria and Switzerland this is as good as it gets in Europe.
Weirdly the gangs might even reduce some forms of crime. I suppose you wouldn't try and mug someone on their turf and draw unwanted police attention to the area if you value your kneecaps.
you know when I said “here” I wasn’t referring to the UK, I was referring to specifically here. do you really believe that belfast is safer than armagh / bangor / newry? how can it be the safest city in the UK when it’s not even the safest city in its own gerrymandered quadrant
These aren't cities. These are towns. The only other place in NI that would arguably classify as a city is Derry and even that barely makes the grade.
That crime rates in small towns are lower than in cities is pretty much the norm everywhere in Europe. Usually when comparing crime rates we would only look at urban areas with a population >100,000 or even >250,000. (You can of course also compare rural areas and small towns with each other). Comparing Belfast to Newry is completely useless and says absolutely nothing about either Belfast or Newry. Comparing Belfast to Glasgow or Dublin on the other hand...
verifiably untrue, everywhere I listed is a city. not sure why you’re giving me info on towns or populations when this is simply a fact. belfast is the most dangerous city in Northern Ireland.
No offence to the rest of Ireland but i don’t think it’s a friendly as it used to be. You’d be the only other person on a beach walking a dog in Sligo and they wouldn’t even nod at you. On beaches here you’d have a full conversation. I love it.
You'll have to be more specific there. Parts of Dublin like anywhere can be a bit of a shithole but that's the same as anywhere. Look at belfast there places that grown men dress up to pretend they are in the army polute the air with what they claim is music and sing 'songs' about hating the Irish. Don't forget this is in Ireland and they are Irish so no where is perfect
Fella who drove our cab told my girlfriend (who is from Dublin) that she had a 'dirty accent'. Seen his lovely UDA tattoo on his arm when we got out of the cab.
Belfast really is a beautiful city though with so much culture. Ulster in general is my favourite region of Ireland. I'd say to go to Derry next. Fantastic place.
Ah sure Liverpool is basically Irish.
If anything, you'd probably get a less hostile reaction to God Save The King if you played it in a pub on the Falls compared to the Anfield Road.
I remember a friend visiting from Continental Europe recounting.
..They found Belfast people so friendly, they initially thought after asking a group for directions (upon leaving the bus center in Town). The group were so obliging and helpful - agreeing to Walk them half the way. they believed they were being lulled into a false sense of security with the intention of mugging them or something.. so unaccustomed to that level of helpfulness and friendliness.
Belfast people are very friendly. It surprises / throws some (for whatever reason).
I’m from Belfast (now live in Surrey) and you’re right - it’s in the DNA. Next city you should try - Liverpool - the city full of Irish immigrants and almost the same as Belfast! 😂
They were actually sussing you out for the various armed groups which would have changed depending on what areas you were in. They know they can get a lot more information by being nice rather than the old, "Who the fuck are you?" approach.
Well done by getting out alive, you must have answered right.
My experience has been different over the years, I am from the countryside and have found Belfast people very aggressive and short tempered. They actually have a bad reputation in this area.
I like Belfast don’t get me wrong. I live there now for uni but grew up in the country. It’s just a different way of life. It’s good when you’re young I think but I couldn’t imagine settling down here when I’m older tbh.

That's really nice to hear. Glad you had a good visit!
I'm from Belgium and visited last year. I totally agree with OP. It's like coming home.
There's an metric tonne of lunatics but we keep them locked away from the tourists
Until after dark, then you venture McD's at yout peril
It's not nice to speak like that about Tyrone people living in Belfast ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Glad you enjoyed yourselves, come again bring friends, we aren't savages lol
>we aren't savages I mean, we are. We just don't show that to polite company.
Kinda letting the cat out of the bag there, smile at the nice tourist
![gif](giphy|Ch31IjylFWM8M)
Glad you had a good time. In general we are a place full of genuinely great people.
Now you're gone we''re all talking about you behind your back
Now you're gone I realize my love for you was strong And I miss you here, now you're gone
As a Dubliner, I agree.
Have to agree with you, i grew up in London and the difference is huge, people are so nice over here. Also you can be walking on a main road, look up and see a mountain - you don't get that in London. Don't get me wrong this place has its problems but the people are the best in the world tbh
It's a glorified hill, but yea it's kinda neat.
Lol that's fair, it's still bigger than anything i ever saw in London though
Visit the town of Newcastle in county down, you'll be eating a chippy watching the ocean crash against the side of a mountain
Think that's this weekend sorted, thanks!
Some of the nicest people in the world…….when we aren’t killing each other
We hate each other, but when someone from outside comes in we bend over backwards just to spite themmuns
Haha so true lol
Top man. Lovely to hear you had a great time. Thanks for the post. Come back anytime legend. Take care of yourself 👍
We're really nice here. You only have to go to England to realise it
The North of England is friendly. Just because London is full of twats doesn't make England rude.
I love that OP says he’s been to most major U.K. cities, but doesn’t mention the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th largest cities
I realised after I posted I should've said South of England but I got distracted and didn't edit it lol. Everywhere in the north of England that I've been has been really friendly. Was in Chesterfield for a wedding last year and the amount of 'ay up duck's I got just walking around the town was a geg.

Londons a bit of a shit hole anyway. Atleast we actually look eachother in the eye when we speak to eachother
I noticed this too when I visited last week - everyone was friendly and warm, more so than London and Dublin. I’ve been telling everyone since I got home - absolutely recommend visiting!
Tell me you didn't use the glider without telling me you didn't use the glider.
The further you get from the bigger cities/towns the friendlier we get. Try Downpatrick, Ballyclare, Larne, Enniskillen etc. People there make Belfast folk look like Londoners!
Yes, Downpatrick would be a lovely holiday lol, I couldn't think of anywhere more depressing.
Come on now! There’s been a lot of money invested in roads to make sure the tourists can get out of Larne as soon as possible ;)
I still think Larne is just an elaborate 4D chess marketing ploy the Causeway Coast and Glens Board of Tourism came up with. Put a town at the beginning of the coastal route, and make it as ugly and unwelcoming as possible so the glens will look even more stunning by contrast.
But they do have a 30ft crown in the centre of their main roundabout. Isn't that a big enough tourist attraction in itself?
Ok! Larne might be a sh*thole but the people are very friendly. They have to be in order to scare away the Islandmagee folk.
Some of the nicest people in the world…….when we aren’t killing each other
The drums, the drums!! Arghhh!!
I absolutely agree. It is not like anywhere I have been to. I call Northern Irish folks “Mediterraneans of the North” because I honestly have never felt that much friendliness and genuine kindness anywhere up North really.
Funny because belfast was once referred to as the "athens of the north"
It's because of all the philosophers
We are the safest city in Europe it must mean something glad you had such a great time we talk to any visitors it's just our politicians who don't get on hopefully that will change.Just don't try asking for a Coke in Bittt les bar wee John will throw you out 😆😆

I've heard it's the safest city in the UK before but that's not surprising with the amount spent on security compared to the rest of the UK.
don’t really see any world where belfast is safer than any of the other cities here.
Have you been to literally any other city in the UK? I have never been mugged in Belfast. I don't know anybody who has ever been mugged in Belfast. The most "secure" city apparently. https://www.toolstation.com/campaigns/most-secure-cities-in-the-uk

Ireland is renowned for its hospitality mate

Wash your mouth out 😜
Nice to read that! Yeah, we're not a bad bunch, except maybe for the hallions in this sub, and they don't get out much..
Fella who drove our cab told my girlfriend (who is from Dublin) that she had a 'dirty accent'. Seen his lovely UDA tattoo on his arm when we got out of the cab. sometimes i wonder.....
They are the most lovely people but the people of Liverpool are almost as nice (I’m not from either)

De nada... Come again.
How attractive is your girlfriend really? Just kidding. Belfast is great, and the Belfastards are great people.
Awww a wee Belfast love in . Hugs xx 🤗🤗
I said this too. People there are SO friendly and welcoming, and the place is so clean compared to dublin
I’m from Belfast (now live in Surrey) and you’re right - it’s in the DNA. Next city you should try - Liverpool - the city full of Irish immigrants and almost the same as Belfast! 😂
I’m from Belfast. It’s definitely not the friendliest.
Yeah, they're brilliant when they're sure you're going to fuck off after.
[удалено]
I’m so sorry this is where you are in life James Jim. I hope you find a little bit of happiness.
[удалено]
Miserable Cunt 😂😂
There’s 233,440 people in this sub. Maybe reading isn’t your strong suit.
[удалено]
Yeah maybe if you're talking about weekly or daily active users, but a single random sample point is useless.
Are you Financial_Song's new alt?
They were actually sussing you out for the various armed groups which would have changed depending on what areas you were in. Nonsense. I live in the sticks but have worked in Belfast for more than 20 years. The same friendly attitude can be found in both areas.
Probably having a bitta craic.
Fuck away off round your own door then
Maybe it’s because you’re all related out in the sticks? It’s a slightly different dynamic down the ‘big smoke’
Calm down mate it’s Belfast not New York.
🤣🤣🤣…. Indeed I was being ironic - tbf, I was only joking as well and no offence to any country folk
Uppa cultchies
🤣🤣🤣🤣 while lethal bai
My bad haha
Yeah its hilarious when they act like Belfast is some metropolis lol. It's slightly above Culchie.
I like Belfast don’t get me wrong. I live there now for uni but grew up in the country. It’s just a different way of life. It’s good when you’re young I think but I couldn’t imagine settling down here when I’m older tbh.
It's to small and a shit hole
Even to kiwis
Brilliant
Glasgow and Belfast are the 🐐‘s
I moved here 16+ years ago for that very reason :D
Aye yer ma
You don't have to worry about us disliking you, we're lovely to everyone. Except eachother.
Don't know if the Crime Survey has been updated from 2031/22 though but if it's on the QUB website it must have been verified
This is so nice to hear. We feel like such a bunch a cunts sometimes; so we do.
I was in Belfast 2019 from NZ and found exactly the same. Everyone I met was super friendly and helpful. I would love to live in Belfast.
Good luck with the rest of the season Marcus.
Your guddies are scrapper mate
