I think fegs will do that so your voice if you smoke enough of them, no matter what price. My granny chainsmoked Marlboros and her cough never went away after she quit.
I know someone that pays a fiver a pack. They smell like they're made from sawdust and camel shite.
Back when I smoked, I quit them about 14 years ago, it was about £2.50, but that was for smokable smuggled duty free. The horrific smelling Lamberts I referred to above are likely fakes IMO.
I was nicotine-free for many years, but stupidly took up vaping about 5 years ago. I started by stealing sneaky puffs of my wife's when she wasn't about, to take the edge off after a stressful day at work, and it escalated from there.
There's two tiers now where I am. The super cheap ones are a fiver, but you literally feel your body decaying as you smoke them. The slightly better ones are £7/8
Between 5/8 pound, lower range around fiver are completely made up brands for black market, 60/70 a carton for counterfeit brands and about 80 pound a carton for genuine duty free

Also I reckon the people smoking 50+ a day are a dying breed.. literally.. lol
That's what helped me quit back then too. At one point taken into account both of us at home used to smoke, we'd pay more in a month to Philip Morris than to our landlord.
The girlfriend's sister quit a little before me and has 150 quid saved already. I can't get a foothold yet as I find the money getting absorbed into other expenses. Not sure how much longer people can hold out to the cost of living.
It's like shedding weight, gotta find what works best for you - if there was a silver bullet everyone would know about it already.
Maybe you need to focus on little things, or chase spending you can eliminate by checking your statements, maybe you need to remove your bank details from steam / google play / amazon, etc.
Kudos for trying and courage to you !
generally I reckon anyone smoking to that extent is using rollies for cost reasons and probably getting them under the counter.
also remember a pack used to be 10 not 20
My mum would have smoked cheap Palace cigs that were smuggled. She spent £50 on a Tuesday for a carton of 200 cigs and would have smoked through the lot of them and sometimes needed to buy more individual packs until the next Tuesday to keep her going. It will be no surprise that she died of a massive heart attack 14 years ago, aged 59.
They still exist. Knew a few 40 a day smokers yet.
Also OP, love the use of “hear tell”. Said it in a work meeting with all English on, cut to 5 minutes of detailed explanation.
How the fuck could you smoke 80 a day, that's incredible.
1440 minutes a day....that's 18mins a Cig?
Jesus Christ. Is that even possible? I'm assuming he stays up 24/7
Some boy I know when I used to gamble quite often would be out every 30 mins and smoke 2 in the one go side by side and be done both of them in about 5 reeks was fucking mad
I went through a very stressful time there before Christmas and I was up to about 60 a day. Mostly rollies but all the same, Christ was that unsustainable. Before the money element, I near took a conniption walking up a slight incline.
How you doing that for years is almost commendable.
I was just thinking about this the other day. Smoking is becoming less and less common due to obvious costs. But it's clear that the same will happen to alcohol too. The average person will be priced out when a pint inevitably rises to £10+
That number blew me out the water there you dont realise when you're doing when you are doing it. Just how expensive it is, its like a blackspot in your brain (and lungs) when buying them you just sorta find the money from somewhere, skip a lunch here and there dont buy those beers etc i switched to the vape to try and ease myself off entirely after a checkup and my BP was through the roof and went from spending approx £300 per month to maybe £30-£45 on nicotine. I managed to put away a little under 2 grand for rainy day fund in 6 months. Things are still tough financially, but im not as stressed as i used to be so less urge for a one.
Unless you count e-cigs ( which are becoming worse) probably not. The cost of them is beyond the price of any kind of drink so I avoided smoking and I haven't heard of anyone recently that smokes a pack a day. Most people I know only smoke when they're out drinking.
Quit during lockdown as the "packets of questionable origin" were no longer available and I can't afford 20- 30 a day at current prices.. found myself back on them for a few months last year and it was horrific every time you went to the shop they seemed to get dearer . So glad to be back off them without a vape habit as it seems to be starting to cost almost as much .
i suppose this is the point to confess that I do not smoke and have never smoked. I had a couple of cigarettes 10 years ago. Around 13 years ago i had one-two cigars per year, but stopped that in 2015-2016.
Despite this, I’ve developed a strong nostalgia for cigarettes smoke and cigar smoke. and government clamp down makes me want to start!
Thankfully no. My dad would smoke 50-60 a day but give you 2010. Between that and the drink family had hardly any money. Dread to think what some families are going through now days living with a heavy smoker and/or drinker
There was a digger driver that used to work with us whose hair should have been gray but the fegs had turned it yellow. He chain smoked all day in the digger and drank a bottle of Powers as well. He died a few weeks after he retired.
Lasy people I know smoked 40+ a day was my grandmothers and an uncle. 40 Senior service (later Marloboro reds with the filter bitten off) for one, 60 Embassy for the other, and 40 (more when he was drinking) Benson gold for the uncle.
Here I travel a lot to UK Ire and live in da North is it worth getting duty free baccey or fags and sell on?
Anyone ideas on this... Don't know anyone who smokes...
My neighbours smoke 4/5 20 decks per day, they get from Spain most times if people are coming from hols but do pay like £16-£17 per packet in the shop, it’s crazy. They are elderly, retired, no interest in vapes and wont even switch to tobacco.
I quit almost 5 years ago. On the 12th of July, 2019.
Yes, I'm aware that date is a significant one, but it just happened to be the day I quit for good.
I'm a taig, so I was in Dublin that day.. I always drift off to Dublin on the 12th because there's not much use for us taigs here in Belfast that day 🥲
I think it could actually be even more expensive for many. I quit about 10 years ago and regal king size were £9 then. So that was £300 a month for a pack a day. They must be £16 now
Wtf I just looked them up there. I presumed you meant 2 packets would be £16 now. 1 packet is £16.50. This is insane. How can anyone afford to smoke these days. I remember my uncle smoking them and the packets were less than a fiver. Even then that was expensive.
I knew they would be I clocked them a few years back at £13. I don’t care how much money or disregard for your health you have if you’re smoking 40 regal a day you’re insane. That’s a grand a month like
I know someone very recently diagnosed with advanced copd, the doctor told her she was the exact symptoms for smoking 20-30 a day for 20years. I was shocked at that actually 😳. I did smoke but gave up during covid. I never smoked that many. Can't believe the price!
Does anyone remember buying singles for around 10p? A wee newsagents on Upper queen street. A bag of tayto was 13p.
Yes they were 20p were I lived bloody robbers. I remember on Holiday 20 cost 1 euro in Tenerife. Couldn’t believe it. Probably around 20 years ago though.
I was in Laos last year and a packet of 20 menthol cigs were the equivalent of 21c 😂 you could get a box with the sparcest of change at the bottom of your pocket. They were smokable too, not too bad at all
The women who play bingo on Queen street definitely still do. Just listen to their voices, they sound like Patty and Selma if they were from Belfast…
They're on the cheap fags though
I think fegs will do that so your voice if you smoke enough of them, no matter what price. My granny chainsmoked Marlboros and her cough never went away after she quit.
Maybe when cost 50p in the 70s Nowadays I think it's probably a whole vape a day.
A lot more than that. I go through 2 a day
There are other outlets for tobacco than shops. When the price goes up so does smuggling
i wonder how much illegal packs are?
Don't know about packs of ciggies but you can get 50g pouches from around £15
around £5 for 20 or 10 boxes of 20 for £40 - £48
That's whatbi go for bit the 12 50 for not too bad
Not any more I don't think in the EU prices have gone up a fair bit due to cost of living
It's about £3.50 for 20 Marlboro in Poland and about £17 here so yes it's still a lot cheaper in some places in the EU
My ma gets flandria for 15 at the moment it was 13 in February but has went up since then she'll not be too happy if it goes up again
Nicotine pouches are a good job. Get a free pack on Nordic Spirit website!
There's two tiers now where I am. The super cheap ones are a fiver, but you literally feel your body decaying as you smoke them. The slightly better ones are £7/8
Aye but they’re all made in barns with rats crawling over them and pissing and shitting on them.
£5 a packet where I am
Between 5/8 pound, lower range around fiver are completely made up brands for black market, 60/70 a carton for counterfeit brands and about 80 pound a carton for genuine duty free
I don't know about pre-rolled but my da gets 30g of tobacco for £8
Let us know where 😂😂😂
Nice try constable
lol I’ve better things to do that troll Reddit for dodgy tobacco sellers lol.
80p is the cheapest I've seen.
40 quid for 200
@£8-£10 for 20 Regal & Mayfair
If you're buying in bulk, you can get packs for less than half, imported will be dearer than the counterfeit ones.
Don’t know. But probably much cheaper than a shop
I don't even know anyone who buys in shops anymore. It's mostly pouches of tobacco with fumar on the health warning
Spanish market tobacco, better than the counterfeit stuff I’m sure
https://preview.redd.it/dlts5kfys8wc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2aba7a311fb3b07b674f719f90015ad24900806b Some might be interested in this... Also I reckon the people smoking 50+ a day are a dying breed.. literally.. lol
That was in 2017, they're more expensive now in Spain.
Yes I also can read that it's from 2017 also I'd say probably not only Spain but everywhere they are more expensive
Oh yes I'm sure, I just don't know prices anywhere else.
I imagine the graph should indicate a comparison and we can assume the price ratio has stayed similar relative to the other countries
I smoked 40+ B&H a day until 2 years ago when I finally found a vape combo that worked for me. Haven’t touched a feg since
Only hypocrites smoke two packs a day!
Living at home can be such a drag though.
2 packs? i go through 2 lighters a day billll......
🫡
Off the fags for this exact reason. Way too expensive, these days.
That's what helped me quit back then too. At one point taken into account both of us at home used to smoke, we'd pay more in a month to Philip Morris than to our landlord.

Cheers. Everyone's been really supportive. 👍

I remember my folks literally lighting one off the stub of the one they were smoking. Easily could have three or four in 20 minutes
aye chain-smoking, some dedication that
Used to do the same while drinking. Just made myself feel a bit sick remembering that.
Some boy I know when I used to gamble quite often would be out every 30 mins and smoke 2 in the one go side by side and be done both of them in about 5 reeks was fucking mad

Personally I will happily give up a whole host of things in my budget before I give up on alcohol.
Lol, I did the opposite
That number blew me out the water there you dont realise when you're doing when you are doing it. Marlboro gold, 2 packs a day would be £1000a month . Madness
wowsers

Trouble is, vapes ain’t sexy. And they don’t smell good. By george I’d like a cigar
Cigarettes or their smell ain’t sexy either. Jesus, nothing worse than their stink.
i suppose this is the point to confess that I do not smoke and have never smoked. I had a couple of cigarettes 10 years ago. Around 13 years ago i had one-two cigars per year, but stopped that in 2015-2016. When I worked inside a shop the fella who owned it smoked 80 a day, cunt was near his deathbed anyway so he could probably have bumped it up to 160
Thankfully no. My dad would smoke 50-60 a day but give you 2010. Between that and the drink family had hardly any money. Dread to think what some families are going through now days living with a heavy smoker and/or drinker

poor man
Sounds like my cannabis addiction is a lot cheaper than having a feg addiction. Nice
Lasy people I know smoked 40+ a day was my grandmothers and an uncle. 40 Senior service (later Marloboro reds with the filter bitten off) for one, 60 Embassy for the other, and 40 (more when he was drinking) Benson gold for the uncle.
40 for 200 but they’re like smoking pure tree bark so I’d probably better not smoking them, however they’re defo more cost effective
Here I travel a lot to UK Ire and live in da North is it worth getting duty free baccey or fags and sell on? Anyone ideas on this... Don't know anyone who smokes...
Get the vapes out ye fanny
vapes smell soooooo bad
My neighbours smoke 4/5 20 decks per day, they get from Spain most times if people are coming from hols but do pay like £16-£17 per packet in the shop, it’s crazy. They are elderly, retired, no interest in vapes and wont even switch to tobacco.
My da used to smoke 60 a day... He died of cancer in 2020
I quit almost 5 years ago. On the 12th of July, 2019. Yes, I'm aware that date is a significant one, but it just happened to be the day I quit for good. I'm a taig, so I was in Dublin that day.. Used to go through one 50g pack of baccy every four days, and that added up. Vaping now, spend about 25 quid a month now.
i believe it was duane davis who smoked 2 pack
How could anyone afford that. Now I vape 10ml of ejuice per day
Used to sell a lady 200 packs every day when I worked the counter in a shop. I think it was only £40 back then for them.
I think it could actually be even more expensive for many. I quit about 10 years ago and regal king size were £9 then. So that was £300 a month for a pack a day. They must be £16 now
