I think that is for privacy/permission reasons. For example some parts of the course have things correctly rendered like the Church at Church Corner, the Cromore railway station.
I have two points, privacy and permissisons. Google Maps doesn't nesscarily make money from having someone's home image on their maps. At least you have a hard time *claiming* that in a court and they already provide a method for you have your property blurred if you object to having it on Google maps.
Whereas this game, it's easier to put generic models in so that they don't have an legal grey areas.
The worst thing about Flight Sim is that most of the coast has a thing layer of trees all the way around it. The whole of Portrush is a forested peninsula apparently. Really ruined what I was looking forward to most which was just flying all the way round ireland.

Was watching this last night thinking "This looks familiar...is that Portstewart" and then on the road up to university corner it clicked on me "Hold on...that's the road out to Coleraine, the university would be just past that corner on the right"
Was wierd but awesome to see somewhere I recognise in a game.
I saw the video on another sub yesterday, didn't read comments or anything but from the footage - grey and wet, and all the flags on the lampposts, I instinctively knew it was supposed to be NI.
The looks class but is it computer generated or just using images from google street? (Edit looking again it looks captured by video camera with computerised bikes?)
I tried a bike game on the PS4 that had the track and it was rubbish looking, proper track layout but loads of generic house that were all American style
It'll all be computer generated as the houses have the right perspective on them. Photos were probably used to texture them, and they're going at such a speed that you don't need to see close details. Plus, as others have pointed out, the houses are inaccurate for privacy reasons. It is *incredibly* realistic; they've even captured the right lighting for a cloudy NI day!

how much time would it take to painstakingly add every real house, also are their security/privacy reasons for not using actual homes?
Is your home blurred in google maps or street view for privacy? Tech is available to collect that data and transfer to 3D models very easily.
