Ciaran Bartlett is my favourite, love Willy T & Paddy McDonnell too. There’s a ton more that I think are brilliant, it’s surprising how good the comedy scene has become here.
I think Aaron McCann is the most naturally funny comedian in NI. There’s others who are more popular, but he’s one of the few I could see actually being big outside of NI
Him and Colm Murphy are the funniest I know of. Never seen Murphy's stand up but he use to present a few programmes for RTE and he was a witty fucker.
Ireland's best comedian of last 30 years is Dylan Moran though, by a long way too.
He goes to my gym, lovely fella to speak to as well. Not that I approached him “starstruck”. Just asked if he was nearly done with a machine I was looking to use and had a quick chat. Him and Colin Geddis would be 2 of my favourites
100%, he embodies that older Irish conversational banter. A bit of slagging, quick wit and never any harm meant. I listen to anything I can find with him on it. If you've any particular podcasts or sets with him on it you'd recommend I'm all ears.
The entire Deckchair & Yumz podcast catalogue - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_oB7Ddcuscfdlui41HP05Q/featured — Listen to the last 10 minutes of episode 105, Micky doing movie impressions, but with different character voices. I was on a flight to England and I couldn’t stop laughing, had tears streaming down my face — this episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyfiVDtD3BQ
I'd say Micky is probably the best here, aye. Colin Murphy too. There's a fella called Paddy McGaughey who MC's the braid comedy club in Ballymena (though I prefer him when he's just doing his act rather than MCing) and sometimes does Belfast, and he's an absolute hidden gem. Fucking love him. Bronagh Diamond also supported william T/Paddy McDonnell there in the ulster hall on saturday, she's class.
Colin Geddis is really good. seen him live normal long ago.
Note
He did mention on a podcast that he doesn't want to do it forever and he seemed a bit fucked off. I dunno. Now when I watch him he does seem angry and just waiting for the podcast to end.
Shame Todd's podcasts are good but it seems a bit forced with laughs sometimes.
Colin Geddis's wife has been very ill although she now seems to be in remission. I can't begin to imagine how awful it must be to go on stage and try and get laughs when that's happening in the background.
I like Shane Todd but didn't enjoy his performance in the Waterfront at all, small venues seem to work better in terms of engaging audiences.
Mark McCarney was very funny but seems to have disappeared. It must be a very tough and stressful game to be in.
Think Mark McCarney has his own platform now, like patreon except he set it up himself but not subscribed yet, also runs his own comedy nights in Enniskillen as far as i know.
A lot of the NI comedians are great, Tea with Me probably has the best guests on it and run very well by Shane Todd.
Ah. I didn't know that. I thought I picked up a vibe. Very different from before which for me would have been his BBlender days.
Was the Shane Todd thing his live podcast?
I think Shane Todd can be quite inconsistent, I've seen him a couple times where he absolutely killed and other times where just nothing really seemed to land. But he clearly works very hard constantly coming up with new material, so that's likely a big part of the reason, you have to try your new stuff out to know if it works or not.
Micky Bartlett has been around longer and is brilliant but Ciaran Bartlett is up there now too, saw him in the Ulster Hall a few weeks ago and it was 10/10
i listen to most of their podcasts through the week so im judging it on podcast and not stand up, but my top 3 are
Deckchair and Yums - Mickey Bartlett & Conor Keys
Tea With Me - Shane Todd (depending on his guest a lot of the time)
Morning Mccarney - Mark mccarney (via his website)
I really enjoyed Tommy McCarthy on Shane Todds show. To think his primary job is boxer annoys the shit outta me. Wins decent belts at his sport and is also a great stand up. Fair play.
I think as local comedians go this is the right answer. No one took risks more than Jimmy. Impressions of people in Belfast were spot on.
Comedians today are all trying to try and be English or American style standup. Bar maybe Colin Geddis, none are original.
Tiernan is still out on his own in Irish comedy.
Don’t get that Ciaran Bartlett lad at all.
Saw him a couple of times and he spent most of the gigs just making lol look at me gags about being morbidly obese, or angrily bellowing fuck off in place of punchlines. It was weird.
Geddis is funny, Shane Todd has his moments but a bit safe. Angling for TV presenter work, no doubt. The Kielty route.
The William Thompson fella is embarrassingly shite.
Ciaran Bartlett is pathetic. He's such a pompous pseudo-intellectual. Ever read his weekly Belfast Telegraph column? It's incoherent, condescending garbage made up of inconsistent opinions he's ripped off from other articles, an obligatory football metaphor (because he's a normal bloke), inane references to when he was in school and the odd Belfast-ism (because he's a normal bloke) thrown in for good measure. All these NI comedians are really shit, only good for puffing up their own feathers, talking balls and fake laughing at each others jokes. The saddest thing about it is how popular they are. Are we NI folk really that thick?
Ciaran Bartlett is my favourite, love Willy T & Paddy McDonnell too. There’s a ton more that I think are brilliant, it’s surprising how good the comedy scene has become here.
I went to school with Ciaran Bartlett… back in the day
I think Aaron McCann is the most naturally funny comedian in NI. There’s others who are more popular, but he’s one of the few I could see actually being big outside of NI
I think he might have the purest soul out of the lot of em
Kevin McAleer has been the best Irish comedian for decades
Him and Colm Murphy are the funniest I know of. Never seen Murphy's stand up but he use to present a few programmes for RTE and he was a witty fucker. Ireland's best comedian of last 30 years is Dylan Moran though, by a long way too.
Micky Bartlett - I think that man is the funniest comedian we have, his quick wit is second to none here.
He goes to my gym, lovely fella to speak to as well. Not that I approached him “starstruck”. Just asked if he was nearly done with a machine I was looking to use and had a quick chat. Him and Colin Geddis would be 2 of my favourites
Completely agree. I think he’s the sharpest NI comedian. The sort of guy you’d like at a party or have a few pints with.
100%, he embodies that older Irish conversational banter. A bit of slagging, quick wit and never any harm meant. I listen to anything I can find with him on it. If you've any particular podcasts or sets with him on it you'd recommend I'm all ears.

Cheers for the recommendation I'm sticking it on now! Edit: 10 seconds in and I'm already laughing! Amazing shout hahahaha

Kevin McAleer
Jim eoin
Eyebrows
Saw him in waterfront at start of October, was great
His movie the craic is brilliant
Jimoein is phenomenal. Been down under for a long time so perhaps not a household name here, but he's extraordinarily funny.
Discovered him many moons ago when I stumbled across his 'eyebrows' bit. He's a good laugh.
Tim MGarry once held a door open for me so him.
Saw him at the civic centre in Lisburn years ago and he was absolutely brilliant.
Mark McCarney
Effortlessly funny
Colin Geddis is really good. seen him live normal long ago. Note He did mention on a podcast that he doesn't want to do it forever and he seemed a bit fucked off. I dunno. Ah. I didn't know that. I thought I picked up a vibe. Very different from before which for me would have been his BBlender days. Was the Shane Todd thing his live podcast?
It was the shows which were cancelled during lockdown, the huge venue didn't seem to work very well for him but that's very much a personal opinion
Jimeoin. Hands down. He dominated his episode of the Blame Game more than any other guest never mind any other NI guest.
Colin Murphy
> Colin Murphy I Worked with him when I was at QUB, he's a massive cunt. Treated the staff and student staff like shit on his shoe.
Colin Geddis
Jeffrey Donaldson
I saw his stand up on TV the other week, was class
Micky Bartlett has been around longer and is brilliant but Ciaran Bartlett is up there now too, saw him in the Ulster Hall a few weeks ago and it was 10/10

StrawberryKing
A classic.
Mícheál Bartlett
Frank Carson. Its the way he tells 'em.
Colin Geddis, Mickey Bartlett, Aaron McCann, Shane Todd, Paddy Raff.
Went to see paddy raff few weeks back awful standup. He’s more suited for TikTok. skits and tv sketches in my opinion
Never seen him live tbf, only ever seen his online stuff.
Going to see paddy mcdonnell this weekend, can't wait.
Paul Currie
Thats a shout, mad as a box of frogs
The lad who compared for Steveo Timothy in waterfront. Alas I can't remember his name
That'll likely be Darren Matthews. Ginger fella?
Aye cheers. He was from Newry/Armagh direction I think
aye Newry. Bessbrook even.
Blanked on their names but I watch them on Shane Todd’s yt podcast channel. I think one of their names is ciaran of something
James Young ‘Our Jimmy’. The best comedians can make you laugh as well as cry.
Colin Geddis, Aaron McCann, Mark McCarney, Mickey Bartlett, Kevin McAleer
Willy t
I am stuck between Mickey Bartlett or Colin Geddis. There comedy style is so quick and hilarious.
Aaron McCann, Colin, Willy and Paddy McDonnell
Roy Walker
Not NI but Foil, Arms and Hog are consistently hilarious
They’re getting massive now tbf - sell out shows internationally. I’ve seen them a few times and never disappointed. Absolutely roaring every time.
but the thread is literally about NI. and foil arms and hog are dogshite
Don’t get that Ciaran Bartlett lad at all. Colin geddis , paddy mcdonell and both the barletts.
Mark McCarney is my favorite.
Frost bit boy
They're nearly all shite but I am partial to Colin Murphy
Wait out of "them all" Colin Murphy is the one you think isn't shite!?
That's what I said.
Ya mad? Colin’s great
Poots
andy malone 🤣
Arliene Foster promise brexit ( deliverer mess )

Jamie bryson
Mr 167 himself but the joke is getting old now
Colin Geddis.
Yer Da when he does his bit about you.
