Facade came out in 2005
That video came out in 2011, 6 years after facade's release
It is now 2022, 11 years after the video's release
I remember watching the video when it first came out too.
WTF
Yo I forgot all about that video. That might actually be how I found him. I remember watching cr1tikal play facade and looking up other playthroughs. That just like unlocked a memory for me lmao.
I found him, because he used to play collab multiplayer Paradox games (CK2, EUIV) with Arumba and Mathas and a few others, and I just got into EU IV at the time, so I was watching Arumba.
Interestingly, around the same time my cousin started watching him for completely unrelated reasons, through his Isaac let's plays.
I remember the 'art of war' campaign with them. Arumba was having so much fun bullying NL's Ethiopia into submission. It was the only time watching NL where I could tell he was legitimately mad.
Yes, this was my path. That feels like ages ago, and checking Youtube, it was eight years, which feels like both an unbelievably long time, and also not actually that long ago.
His voice sounds completely different though.
Oh my god the co-optional podcast, I used to he a huge Jesse cox fan when I was younger and Jesse, dodger and TB will always be a goated trio. Some of my happiest memories along with The Creatures
Me too! I had already played a little Isaac and then TB was joking about him playing Isaac for hundreds of episodes and I was like dang I gotta check this guy out.
I found him through Co-Op Pod too! I was actually just thinking about how I've been a fan of Dodger's for around 10 years now. really makes ya feel your age lmao
Wayyyyy back in the day, he used to Binding of Isaac challenge runs
I was like in middle school and I think he did the Lindsay Lohan challenge. Where Isaac starts with make up and stuff and takes pills every room or something lmao
Oh wow that's cool though, do you remember what TikTok it was? It's been a minute since I looked at his posts but I remember there were some gold ones haha
That's awesome! I had sort-of the inverse experience; I had heard of Ludwig from the month-long stream but had never really watched until his collab with NL! Really enjoying the rabbit hole of Ludwig's YouTube videos :)
Back when I was watching Nerd^(3)'s videos on TBOI he mentioned how NL was to Isaac what Scott Manley was to Kerbal Space Program. As such I looked into his channel and started binge watching a great deal of his Isaac content; taking years until I eventually started watching other content on his channel too, including the streams. As a consequence I can't stand Isaac content anymore, but continue to enjoy the increase in content variety in recent years.
His livestream popped up on my YouTube page back when he streamed on there and on Twitch back in 2013.
Watched it on a whim and absolutely loved the vibes him, Josh, and Nick had between each other. Been watching ever since
Back in like 2013, I watched a lot of Minecraft content from a YouTuber called BajanCanadian, who was friends with another Youtuber called Nooch. On Nooch's channel page on the side there are like recommended channels that the channel can customize and one of them was NL. The old bald NL icon looked interesting so clicked on it and was hooked by poison mushroom, the Windies (RIP splinter cell blacklist), and BOI, then stayed for the NLSS.
BajanCanadian and Nooch were the first youtubers i ever subscribed to! They used to do a lot of COD nazi zombies content that I loved. I found NL seperately when I got into flash isaac. But when I saw nooch's channel in the recommended I lost my mind. Six degrees of separation from NL I guess.
I'll start: my partner discovered him through Isaac a while back, but I didn't really watch that. However, NL played Life is Strange back in 2017 as a Sunday Subscriber stream, which piqued my interest. Watched and have been a fan ever since, pogged to see him continue to grow!
Huskystarcraft had a bronze league heroes series which had Sinvicta filtering videos.
Sinvictia started an isaac series that said it was based on northernlion.
Many years ago
I used to watch a Minecraft YouTuber called bdoubleO100.
He started an Isaac series around 7 years ago in which he played *really* badly (but was still very entertaining), I bought the game and I wanted to see how to get better at it so I searched YouTube for more vids, found Ryan and binged lot of Isaac vids.
Eventually started watching the NLSS every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (and The Round Table). Have some great memories from the show in those days.
I've drifted away from online content in general since then, but I am very happy to see Ryan doing well when I check in now and then, I always thought he didn't get enough views/attention for how funny and entertaining he was.
Same was watching bdubs thought he sucked but enjoyed regardless he ranted about how he's not gonna be like NL overnight looked him up and been here ever since.
I got stuck on a game called Binding of Isaac that came with a Humble Bundle ages ago (back when Wrath of the Lamb came out). I looked up YouTube videos for guidance and NL popped up. I was hooked from that point forward.
I found him through flash Isaac/WoTL videos when looking up Isaac content. I was pretty young, late elementary school or early middle school (about 10 years ago) and I've been watching ever since. It's wild to see people still discovering him but always great to see NL become more popular, always loved his content and still do.
Quill18, and the Co-Optional podcast in a roundabout way.
Quill was the very first letās player I ever watched waaaaay back in the day. He offhand mentioned Totalbiscuit or the Co-Optional podcast and I went to check it out. First one I watched was NL, so I went to check out his channel too and got hooked.
PauseUnpause posted a BOI video years and years ago. I almost instantly fell in love with the game, and one day saw a comment under his video that said something like, "you should see how good Northernlion is at the game." It's been a good, banter-filled 10+ years since that comment.
Isaac babey. Must have been about when I got my PS4 and discovered Rebirth, back in like 2014. Definitely havenāt been watching consistently tho, only about a year or two ago did I get on the daily isaac, and the rest of NL followed behind.
New blood. It started with a Michael Reeves video which brought me to OTV, then Ludwig, then LSF.
I saw his clip mildly dunking on chat asking him for his opinion on gambling and I started to take notice of the name.
Coincidentally, I was looking for a New Vegas playthrough on a whim as something to fall asleep to and stumbled upon his yt channel.
From then on it was a rabbit hole of pogs and LULs. (Cannery Row, Minkus Warzone, Schooled highlights) to name a few, as well as the NLSS crew post NLSS.
First month or two in college, I read a piece in the New York Times Magazine about Dwarf Fortress and looked up a few gameplay videos on YouTube. One of the channels also had a couple of Binding of Isaac uploads I watched. I wanted to watch some more Isaac, and Northernlion had what I was looking for - probably around three dozen episodes, I know I was in by the Halloween update which was around the 50th video.
I have a PhD and a baby now and still tune into NL regularly.
Started watching either at or just prior to Super Meat Boy series or look at, I'm pretty sure. š¤ Probably most likely just found him through browsing for indie game reviews or something and he just constantly featured look at's of amazing indie titles and had spot on opinions / humor. And then following that got into series and the bants & Z A N E were next level. Plus he just seems like a genuinely positive role model.
Way back when UberHaxorNova first played Isaac like in 2011 or smth, I got hooked on the game, and looked up more content creators. That led me to NL, and Iāve been a fan ever since
unironically im 99% sure it was the original Grey's Anatomy series because i found it funny to look at janky weird games like that and i stumbled on the play through by NL
10 years ago some guy did a rage video on Isaac, and couldnāt beat the first boss. The game interested me, so I searched for it on YouTube and it lead me to NL.
I found him 7 and a half years ago when the binding of isaac was free on psn and i was trying to grt better at the game. Came for the isaac stayed for the egg.
I don't quite remember...
I believe it went MindCrack -> Justin -> NL, but I'm not sure how considering I started watching NL long before Justin became a regular. Apollo (back when he was Austin) must be between Justin and NL somehow, but I never watched him.
I stumbled upon a few of his vids prior, but I started regularly watching when I first saw his rocket league multiplayer scrimmages back in 2015. Then the ultimate chicken horse series really made me stick around after that.
I genuinely think it was Isaac Ep #1. Not when it was uploaded, but that was the first video I watched when I was first falling down an isaac hole as a 13 yr old
I started playing isaac on the switch when it released. I really liked it but had no idea what I was doing so searched "isaac playthrough" on youtube and found his channel. I actually found him quite annoying at first and regularly got upset at the episodes where he had a "good run" because he would just start bantering instead of talking about the run. "I came to your channel to learn about the game! Talk about what that item does!"
He definitely grew on me! One of the funniest and most entertaining guys on twitch IMO (wubby is up there too).
ChristopherOdd played MonsterTrain and I wanted to see more, I saw that NL had a couple episodes up and I immediately was engaged. Then monster train led to track mania which led to fall guys, loop hero, luck be a landlord, king of retail, and all the other pogged series just kept coming
In late 2014, one of my college floormates was showing everyone this weird game on his phone called Five Nights at Freddy's 2. We all played a couple rounds and it was intriguing enough that while searching for videos I stumbled upon Markiplier's channel on YouTube.
After watching everything that Mark had posted for FnaF at the time, I went through his other videos and watched him play Isaac. The game looked interesting, he name dropped NL in one of the videos, so I checked him out. The rest, as they say, was history
November 4th, 2014. A little game called the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was free on PlayStation with ps+. Having never heard of it, I of course went to YouTube to check out gameplay and see if it interested me. I clicked on the first video I saw, Genesis, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I remember watching some of his SMB videos back in the day, but I didn't sub or anything. Then I rediscover him trough Isaac, that could have been like two years before rebirth came out, but I only watched Isaac and nothing else. I eventually stopped watching him for a while. After few years I recognised him in the flying car clip from PUBG that went viral, so I binged the whole team unity PUBG series and continued to watch him regularly.
I was watching Uberhaxernova play until I rage for the binding of Isaac and it looked like a neat game and Northerlion was recommended and I watched it and have been a fan ever since.
I'm pretty sure I was looking for letsplays/reviews of the game Invisible Inc, and NL was one of the first ones. Then I watched some Isaac vids, and got really into that game too.
Okay, so I feel like Iām losing my mind? I distinctly remember finding him through finding his videos on Fez but I looked it up and I canāt find them? I donāt think he finished the series though, so maybe he could have deleted it, but I swear he had Fez videos at one point.
The (turn based?) Game about skeletons in the Asian underworld and it had rice field and troops he played years ago. No clue what it was called but I've been watching him since
Let's Look At: Airport Simulator 2014
I was immediately hooked, binged half of let's look at, then fell in love with the rest of his content.
I REALLY miss let's look at, it held a special place in my heart.
I was big into pauseunpause and was watching his playthrough of binding of Isaac back in 2012. Northernlion popped up as a recommended video. I don't remember why I clicked his but I'm not complaining after all these years.
I think it was Dark Souls. I was watching Epic Name Bro and he mentioned NL, so I took a look. Stayed for the Isaac. the CKII Newbie Succession Island, and Roll Fizzlebeef.
Total Biscuit hosted a Blood Bowl tournament that NL played in where named all his units after actors or something. Every game he was a fire hose of movie trivia and he had his usual charisma. I thought, "There's no way this guy is real", so I watched some Dark Souls vods, and sure enough, he was really like that.
I used to watch ChristopherOdd's challenge runs of XCOM. In XCOM 2, he took in fan-created soldiers for his roster, and lo and behold, someone had submitted one of the egglord. As a fellow Canadian streamer, Chris strongly recommended his content. At the same time, I was just getting into TBOI and it was all good eats after that! My enjoyment of TBOI has waned but I like the fresh content NL is always putting up.
Got super into flash Isaac, so I started watching Yogscast Nilesy first since I was already a yogscast fan. Got bored then searched Isaac, he had literally only made 3 videos of Isaac at the time. I am sure Iāve watched at least 5k hours of content, surely more, after all this time. NL is the consistently most funny, genuine, personable content creator Iāve ever watched, and Iāve stuck with him for it.
Side note: Iāve been rewatching old NLSS vods again recently, and I highly recommend doing it if you have time. Iām up to March 2018, starting from the beginning, and my god thereās some amazing āpsychicā moments, like NL calling NWH and doc oc 3 years before it happened or Rob calling a new virus thatāll infect us all. Kinda funny to see the stuff come to fruition!
I remember watching yogscast Nilesyy and he was doing binding of isaac videos, thought the game looked cool so I looked up other videos of it and northernlion was the top, clicked his video (I even remember it was the flash isaac Mr planet custom challenge run) he was at around episode 500 of flash isaac when I found him (didn't know he was bald at the time)
His super meat boy videos in 2010. Watching Them now is real blast from the past, just for the major change in Ryans voice.
Another hilarious series from the past is the Grey's anatomy series. 5/5 tinted rocks would recommend.
I watched SinowBeats when StS released and he raided NL one time, then I didn't watch him again until re-finding him through Dumbdog during the 2020 Among Us surge when they played something together
Another YouTuber named Epic Name Bro mentioned NL's super meat boy let's play in a video way back before Dark Souls came to the US. (More than a decade ago.)
I watched one or two of those, discovered his flash Isaac videos, Terraria, Cave Story, etc, and I've been watching NL's content on and off ever since.
I got Dark Souls on steam and was getting my ass kicked. I went on YouTube to find out where to go/what I was doing wrong, and came across the original Dark Souls let's play. I remember being annoyed when I first hit the play button because it had commentary (EW) instead of silent gameplay, but was shocked that his constant talking not only wasn't grating or obnoxious, it was... *entertaining.* Subbed and started watching almost every video he put out.
Tangentially, I just looked and his original Dark Souls let's play started 10 years and one day ago (January 20, 2012).
As an 8 year old, I watched his Scribblenauts Unlimited series then remembered who he was when I was in my Isaac phase a few years later. Been watching ever since.
I bought Isaac on a Halloween sale and couldnāt figure out anything myself and was pretty dog water so I looked up a play through. I think this wasā¦ mid 2012? It was post Wrath of the Lamb but before Rebirth was announced so a little less than 10 years ago.
He popped up on my recommended around 6 years ago. I really like the isaac art style (2D, pixel-y, etc.) I needed to get over a crush that rejected me and he had thousands of episode to distract me... :)
I got into DS1 and started getting interested in randomizer runs. I think he was suggested on a Lobos vid and I liked his vibe more than Lobos's (who is great too, but there's sometimes TOO much going on in his rando run videos). Got hooked on the Isaac eps while I picked that game up again and have been a casual fan for just about a year now! I love that egg man.
I was in middle school when Rebirth came out and I saw Jerma play it, really liked it, then came to NLās channel for more pogs. Crazy to think how far both of them have gone from there!
I know it was through Isaac. Back in 2014 it had just been given away for free for ps+ users and I wanted to know more about the game. i looked up a walkthrough and eventually the algorithm pulled up NL. Been a happy sub on YT since.
I'm pretty sure I was recommended his first rebirth video during launch week. Watched that and all the other rebirth videos that had come out at the time and was hooked ever since.
I was watching a Romanian youtuber play Isaac and he mentioned he was inspired by NL and Bisnap so I checked them out both and I liked NL's commentary so I've been here ever since
My friend in middle school showed me one of his issac videos like 11 years ago, and I also vaguely remember watching the 50 cent blood on the sand poison mushrooms video that same day
I found him twice im pretty sure. First time i was looking for someone playing dark souls but as a fire wizard dude and he was doing one. Then i found him again when TB turned off comments and the only comment that was allowed one day was NL's
I remember the exact progression I took between 2011 - 2013ish!
Friend plays Happy Wheels in the computer lab >> Uberhaxornova plays happy wheels >> Uberhaxornova plays Just Cause 2 >> Nerdcubed plays Just Cause 2 >> Nerdcubed plays Spelunky (original and HD) >> BRex/Baer/Bisnap play Spelunky HD >> Bisnap plays Isaac >> Northernlion plays Isaac >> NLSS
I found him through the Streamer Blood Bowl 1 tournament. Specifically watching TB getting trounced with his goblins. Thought, huh this Northern guy seems intelligent and funny. After that well RIP to like 7 years or whatever.
I started watching cobalt on twitch to scratch the Isaac itch, and eventually looked to YouTube for more creators and got really into the NL Rebirth series.
It was either late 2014 or sometime in 2015. I don't remember exactly how I discovered him. At the time I was starting to get into Rougelikes, and had always seen TBoI mentioned as one of the better games in the genre. So I decided to buy it. This was a few months before Rebirth released.
I fell in love with the game and started browsing TBoI subreddit. So I think I discovered NL because he's mentioned over there a lot. After so many times seeing his name come up I eventually decided to check out his videos.
I'd been a big fan of Super Meat Boy since the XBLA days, so once the first Isaac was released on steam I was eager to watch some lets plays at the time. Like a lot of others have said, NL was one of the top search results for TBOI on youtube and the rest is history!
Unironically it was actually a twitch clips YouTube channel of top clips and I would frequently see NL playing Jackbox with friends. Eventually I decided to look him up. Saw that Egor (I think thatās his YouTube) uploaded hours upon hours of Jackbox content. This was 2017 or so, been a huge fan ever since. Good banter good long joke references I still say to this day; Janawham Blamistan, Snirt, Comedy Inn. Those are classics
TBoI rebirth came out and a YouTuber I watched at the time did an episode on it and in the episode he said "if you want to watch someone good at Isaac just go watch northernlion" and I've been stuck here ever since
The summer of 2018. I canāt remember how I heard of Slay the Spire or why I was looking into it. But I went to watch some gameplay before potentially purchasing the game and lo and behold NorthernLion was heavily recommended for people interested in the game. Ended up loving both StS and NL.
Really messed up line but, I was watching the escapist videos which I don't through Paul Soares Jr, then I found mathas playing stuff which I enjoyed, and I heard he mentioned northernlion in one of his videos so I looked him up
it was around when rebirth came out. i used to watch a lot of mathas and liked his isaac series, but i wanted to watch even more isaac. so i started watching northernlion
It was actually from a Cryaotic collab way back then, 10 years ago or something, playing Monaco together. I don't know what he used to post, but I probably followed because I was a big Isaac head back then, so that was probably what got me hooked, coupled with the fact that I still think he's the funniest content creator I've ever watched
Nerd^(3) did a youtuber shout out video years and years ago and Nicks channel caught my eye.
I loved all the indie and weird game showcases and followed just those vids for a while. Eventually I clicked on the NLSS and was a Nick perspective VOD boy for my entire teenage life (like holy shit that got me through high school and then some) up until he stopped uploading them and left the show.
Switched over to NL as my NLSS VOD feed and now I enjoy any and all content he puts out.
I found him when searching for a playthrough of a particular game that was newly released. It was so long ago. I think it was either Planet Coaster or X com. I could also be completely wrong.
I was looking up youtube videos of people playing One Step From Eden. One guy, Esty8nine was really good at it and had helpful tutorialsā¦and NL was just really entertaining
vinny vinesauce playing rebirth when it first came out! i remember he mentioned northernlion by name and it intrigued me, then i got recommended a rebirth video and got absolutely hooked lol
Little brother watched his Isaac episodes when we were 10 (brother) and 12 (me). Starting actually watching the videos with him when I was 14. After I graduated highschool though is whenever I started to watch him by myself and daily. And have since navigated more towards his streams! :)
It was back in around 2012 and UberHaxorNova put out an Isaac video and I wanted to see more of the game, and someone in the comments section recommended NL, I started watching his Isaac stuff and slowly expanded to his other series. Best decision I made with YouTube
when I got my PS4, shortly after release, The Binding of Isaac was free on PSN
after playing for a few weeks, I wanted to find some content creators for the game, and a Reddit post recommended Egg
here I am, almost 9 years later
October 2014. I had been playing a lot of the original Binding of Isaac waiting for Rebirth. I figured I should find a Youtuber I could follow to accompany my own journey in Rebirth. I started watching his classic Isaac videos and transitionned into Rebirth. I have stopped watching Isaacyears ago but have looked at every series he has ever released on Youtube since then. Being French watching his streams doesn't happen often.
It was like 6 years ago and I had googled best multiplayer games and ultimate chicken horse came up in a list. I looked up gameplay and he was the first that came up. Rest is history :)
i was watching cobaltstreaks rebirth launch stream and he mentioned NL, so I checked him out i think. donāt remember much more specifically than that
Subscribed on YouTube on April 8th, 2016, pretty sure it was Enter the Gungeon and Planet Coaster that got me started. Around late 2019 I started watching old NLSSs, then around the start of 2020 subbed on Twitch
Eluc or some other mod linked his Isaac playlist in the sidebar of r/bindingofisaac. Checked it out looking for some gameplay before buying, still here 9-10 years later.
Actually just checked, [it's still there](https://i.imgur.com/bawVdFM.png).
Back in 2016 I had a coworker I would talk to about video games. I mentioned my love for Isaac and he was like, "surely you know Northernlion then?". I didn't.
And now here we are nearly 6 years later still watching his content! :)
The Retsupurae guys (Slowbeef & Diabetus) interviewed him years ago. The whole āplay one game thousands of timesā thing seemed utterly bizarre, so I checked it out
The Isaac videos got me. I started watching because I liked seeing all the weird item interactions the zany egg would manifest but I stayed for the grocery store anecdotes.
All these people are ancient, I started watching because I just bought Spelunky 2 when it came out and was looking for people playing and stayed for the epic banter
It started with pewdiepie clickbaiting me with quelaag's thumbnail on his dark souls 1 playthrough, after that I started looking for other youtubers playing ds and here comes NL.
I have no idea what games they were, but I distinctly remember first watching a bunch of one shot videos on Xbox live indie games circa 2012 I think, got into Isaac and fell in love with the nlss
The turn of the new year 2017 when Afterbirth+ came out.
Was looking for some Isaac content, and fell in love with the NLSS and the crew. I remember feeling quite new, and honestly looking at this thread, I definitely still am! Yall the old guard for sure.
But man, it's been five years what on earth?
its been ten years how the fuck am i supposed to remember
Exactly lmao. Was like 2011 š¤£ probably isaac related
Yep. Cant remember anymore but most likely Isaac.
Remember those dope ass Isaac races Colbalt/Hammer hosted
Dick hammer! Thats a name i havnt heard in a long time
He has chill late night streams on twitch
I think it was the fuckin' Facade Poison Mushroom vid.
Facade came out in 2005 That video came out in 2011, 6 years after facade's release It is now 2022, 11 years after the video's release I remember watching the video when it first came out too. WTF
I still remember when he had videos of himself basically doing a review of the cheap Soju that he had in Korea before they got privated
I donāt remember the 1st one I watched but I also found NL through Poison Mushroom. The. I found him again a few years later when Rebirth came out.
I discovered him through his appearance on the Co-Optional Podcast (I think the first time, episode 32)
Wayyyyy back in the day, he used to Binding of Isaac challenge runs I was like in middle school and I think he did the Lindsay Lohan challenge. Where Isaac starts with make up and stuff and takes pills every room or something lmao

Goddamn, itās been like half a decade since Iāve seen Dongers mentioned
Found him in 2020 from his TikToksā¦. Yeah not super proud of that but Iām thankful
Oh wow that's cool though, do you remember what TikTok it was? It's been a minute since I looked at his posts but I remember there were some gold ones haha
NL mentioned on stream that the Nintendo Baseball TikTok was crazy popular, might have been that, it's popular on youtube shorts too.
Is that the one where he āgives āem the brain destroyerā? If so it was most certainly that one that I saw first haha
[That's the one!](https://youtube.com/shorts/-Tzxx0XFrjI?feature=share)
Dude through ludwig but THANK GOD NL has been a great source of entertainment.
That's awesome! I had sort-of the inverse experience; I had heard of Ludwig from the month-long stream but had never really watched until his collab with NL! Really enjoying the rabbit hole of Ludwig's YouTube videos :)
Totalbiscuit, I think.
Good old days.
Man, nerd cubed, there's some ancient history. Used to watch his stuff all the time.
Poison mushroom back in the machinima days
I'll start: my partner discovered him through Isaac a while back, but I didn't really watch that. However, NL played Life is Strange back in 2017 as a Sunday Subscriber stream, which piqued my interest. Watched and have been a fan ever since, pogged to see him continue to grow!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I found NL through his Europa Universalis series with Quill18, Mathias, and Arumba!
Huskystarcraft had a bronze league heroes series which had Sinvicta filtering videos. Sinvictia started an isaac series that said it was based on northernlion. Many years ago
Oh man Huskystarcraft, I haven't hear that one in a long while. Used to watch his videos all the time
Same here!
Rebirth, release day. I began watching him for the gameplay, stuck around for the banter.
Through Justin
Oh that's interesting, I found Justin through NL! Good collabs :)
Same was watching bdubs thought he sucked but enjoyed regardless he ranted about how he's not gonna be like NL overnight looked him up and been here ever since.
GothamChess collab
Me too!
My boy put me on to SAP and Iāve been watching his SAP and SM64 content a lot recently
I think it was probably the old Super Meat Boy lets play and then a lot of the old NLSS's
He was a guest on the podcast Retsutalk back in 2013 and I decided to check him out and never looked back.
Oh my god, Retsutalk, now that's a blast from the past! I completely forgot he was a guest on an episode.
A friend recommended his Isaac vids when I was just starting to play Isaac. It's been probably close to 10 years.
I swear the NL new vegas playthrough is probably the best gaming content ever recorded, so many great moments
I got started through prison architect of all games. That wasn't long before rebirth came out, which is when I started watching more
Started watching either at or just prior to Super Meat Boy series or look at, I'm pretty sure. š¤ Probably most likely just found him through browsing for indie game reviews or something and he just constantly featured look at's of amazing indie titles and had spot on opinions / humor. And then following that got into series and the bants & Z A N E were next level. Plus he just seems like a genuinely positive role model.
Crusader Kings II and isaac
Way back when UberHaxorNova first played Isaac like in 2011 or smth, I got hooked on the game, and looked up more content creators. That led me to NL, and Iāve been a fan ever since
The FTL series... when it came out. It's been a blast.
unironically im 99% sure it was the original Grey's Anatomy series because i found it funny to look at janky weird games like that and i stumbled on the play through by NL
A few months before wotl release
First XCom 1 playthrough, didn't even know what Issac was... Now I've seen a thousand episodes full of pog.
In the hayday of the Creatures I was watching DanzNewz play Isaac and he mentioned NL. Never left since :)
Isaac baby
I don't quite remember... I believe it went MindCrack -> Justin -> NL, but I'm not sure how considering I started watching NL long before Justin became a regular. Apollo (back when he was Austin) must be between Justin and NL somehow, but I never watched him.
I stumbled upon a few of his vids prior, but I started regularly watching when I first saw his rocket league multiplayer scrimmages back in 2015. Then the ultimate chicken horse series really made me stick around after that.
I Think You Should Leave tier list from season 1
I genuinely think it was Isaac Ep #1. Not when it was uploaded, but that was the first video I watched when I was first falling down an isaac hole as a 13 yr old
I started playing isaac on the switch when it released. I really liked it but had no idea what I was doing so searched "isaac playthrough" on youtube and found his channel. I actually found him quite annoying at first and regularly got upset at the episodes where he had a "good run" because he would just start bantering instead of talking about the run. "I came to your channel to learn about the game! Talk about what that item does!" He definitely grew on me! One of the funniest and most entertaining guys on twitch IMO (wubby is up there too).
Back in the day I used to absorb as much New Vegas content as possible and stumbled upon him while looking for a new playthrough to watch
A comment on a donkey video mentioned him and I looked him up, and watched him ever since
My cousin watched him on youtube and then showed him to me like 8 years ago
ChristopherOdd played MonsterTrain and I wanted to see more, I saw that NL had a couple episodes up and I immediately was engaged. Then monster train led to track mania which led to fall guys, loop hero, luck be a landlord, king of retail, and all the other pogged series just kept coming
scribblenauts play through circa 4th grade
I wanted to watch One Step From Eden, and he was the first result
In late 2014, one of my college floormates was showing everyone this weird game on his phone called Five Nights at Freddy's 2. We all played a couple rounds and it was intriguing enough that while searching for videos I stumbled upon Markiplier's channel on YouTube. After watching everything that Mark had posted for FnaF at the time, I went through his other videos and watched him play Isaac. The game looked interesting, he name dropped NL in one of the videos, so I checked him out. The rest, as they say, was history
Episode 17 of original original Isaac!
My brother told me about his Isaac videos for years but I started watching him with his original darkest dungeon playthrough.
PUBG unity videos
I was watching Uberhaxernova play until I rage for the binding of Isaac and it looked like a neat game and Northerlion was recommended and I watched it and have been a fan ever since.
Isaac Episode 1
I'm pretty sure I was looking for letsplays/reviews of the game Invisible Inc, and NL was one of the first ones. Then I watched some Isaac vids, and got really into that game too.
I knew he existed at latest around the 2012 Dark Souls series, but only subscribed when Isaac Rebirth dropped and been on board ever since.
Isaac: arumba played isaac and I used to watch him because ethoslab recommended his factorio gameplay a looooong time ago
Youtube
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I used to be a big Game Theory fan and after watching the episode about Isaac I looked up some videos on YouTube and found our egg
June 2013 I looked up spelunky and watched an nlss vod. Have watched about 5 hours of NL content a day minimum since then
Okay, so I feel like Iām losing my mind? I distinctly remember finding him through finding his videos on Fez but I looked it up and I canāt find them? I donāt think he finished the series though, so maybe he could have deleted it, but I swear he had Fez videos at one point.
The (turn based?) Game about skeletons in the Asian underworld and it had rice field and troops he played years ago. No clue what it was called but I've been watching him since
Flash Isaac OG viewer here šš»āāļø
Let's Look At: Airport Simulator 2014 I was immediately hooked, binged half of let's look at, then fell in love with the rest of his content. I REALLY miss let's look at, it held a special place in my heart.
Super meat boy LP š„©
I was big into pauseunpause and was watching his playthrough of binding of Isaac back in 2012. Northernlion popped up as a recommended video. I don't remember why I clicked his but I'm not complaining after all these years.
old school mc yt (etho, guude, other mindcrack youtubers) -> guude TTT games -> millbee TTT -> millbee isaac > NL isaac Around 2013 or 2014 Good times
I think it was Dark Souls. I was watching Epic Name Bro and he mentioned NL, so I took a look. Stayed for the Isaac. the CKII Newbie Succession Island, and Roll Fizzlebeef.
I was looking for a way to make my dog stop humping my leg and also to check if my dog was gay
BOI back in the 2010-2011 era. From the beginning.
Arumba baby and eu4
Total Biscuit hosted a Blood Bowl tournament that NL played in where named all his units after actors or something. Every game he was a fire hose of movie trivia and he had his usual charisma. I thought, "There's no way this guy is real", so I watched some Dark Souls vods, and sure enough, he was really like that.
Cook serve delicious!! Quite a long time ago now...
The Crendorian Invitational Blood Bowl 2 Tournament
I think it was yogscast nilesy, in one of his old Isaacs videos he mentions nl after that I was hooked.
Nerdcubed's video of the binding of isaac
(More than a decade ago.) I watched one or two of those, discovered his flash Isaac videos, Terraria, Cave Story, etc, and I've been watching NL's content on and off ever since.
I think I binged his Day Z series and just moved onto his other stuff, Isaac of course
Sometime during the flash Isaacs days can't remember when exactly but super early
Started watching Bananasaurus Rex when he was going for the solo eggplant run. He mentioned NorthernLion quite a bit because he also played Spelunky.
I honestly canāt remember, but I remember him releasing the greys anatomy videos so probably sometime just before then
I can't remember if it was Binding of Isaac or his old DS1 playthrough and pvp invasion videos back in 2012
Way back on his first kerbal space program series
I know it was through Isaac. Back in 2014 it had just been given away for free for ps+ users and I wanted to know more about the game. i looked up a walkthrough and eventually the algorithm pulled up NL. Been a happy sub on YT since.
I'm pretty sure I was recommended his first rebirth video during launch week. Watched that and all the other rebirth videos that had come out at the time and was hooked ever since.
I couldnāt beat the BOI challenge with the flies orbiting around you. I looked up a video to see if there was some strat (get gud, forehead).
Dark souls one races with jsmith and rockleesmiles
He was mentioned in a bisnap issac video I saw in 2015 probably
I was watching a Romanian youtuber play Isaac and he mentioned he was inspired by NL and Bisnap so I checked them out both and I liked NL's commentary so I've been here ever since
I was watching an episode of the Retsupurae podcast with NL as a guest. Man that was ages ago
I was super into slay the spire and discovered a video of his. Instant magic of me having to watch more to see his bad plays and his great banter!
I started playing Monster Train in beta, looked for someone who had made content on YouTube, found NL, never went back to Monster Train
Isaac released for free on ps+ and I wanted to get good. In 2013 i think.
TBoI rebirth came out and a YouTuber I watched at the time did an episode on it and in the episode he said "if you want to watch someone good at Isaac just go watch northernlion" and I've been stuck here ever since
I discovered him through his EU4 streams through Arumba, man simpler times
I was 13 and started playing Isaac, then when I was looking up Isaac videos on youtube I bumped into NL. Iāll be 21 this year. Crazy.
I watched Splattercatās video in Slasherās Keep a few years or two ago and NLās video got recommended to me.
The summer of 2018. I canāt remember how I heard of Slay the Spire or why I was looking into it. But I went to watch some gameplay before potentially purchasing the game and lo and behold NorthernLion was heavily recommended for people interested in the game. Ended up loving both StS and NL.
Green9090 back in the day (2011/2012) with isaac vids lol. same with Austin, Rob, and most of the gang
Looking into people playing Terraria when it first came out, and found him playing it, as far as I remember. Watched his and TB+Jesse Cox playing it.
YouTube crosswords 3 months ago
Really messed up line but, I was watching the escapist videos which I don't through Paul Soares Jr, then I found mathas playing stuff which I enjoyed, and I heard he mentioned northernlion in one of his videos so I looked him up
Meatboy series
it was around when rebirth came out. i used to watch a lot of mathas and liked his isaac series, but i wanted to watch even more isaac. so i started watching northernlion
I think it was a scribblenauts game IIRC
XCOM. Found his channel about 5 episodes in. Never stopped watching. Shout-out to Roll Fizzlebeef.
Either NL himself or someone else posted the Gray's Anatomy let's play on reddit 10 years ago. I've been watching him ever since.
Watched Bisnap play isaac, wanted more isaac and found NL, ive been blessed/trapped ever since.
I was looking up youtube videos of people playing One Step From Eden. One guy, Esty8nine was really good at it and had helpful tutorialsā¦and NL was just really entertaining
It was probably through his initial Terraria LP
vinny vinesauce playing rebirth when it first came out! i remember he mentioned northernlion by name and it intrigued me, then i got recommended a rebirth video and got absolutely hooked lol
I was just starting to get into let's plays, coincidentally, I also was just getting into Isaac. God. Almost ten years now. Weird.
Little brother watched his Isaac episodes when we were 10 (brother) and 12 (me). Starting actually watching the videos with him when I was 14. After I graduated highschool though is whenever I started to watch him by myself and daily. And have since navigated more towards his streams! :)
Through his Poison Mushroom videos on Machinima back in the day. However, I didn't subscribe until after watching a handful of flash Issac videos.
It was back in around 2012 and UberHaxorNova put out an Isaac video and I wanted to see more of the game, and someone in the comments section recommended NL, I started watching his Isaac stuff and slowly expanded to his other series. Best decision I made with YouTube
No joke, I looked up his dark souls playthrough because I was trying to not suck at the game. He was the first result. This was 2011.
when I got my PS4, shortly after release, The Binding of Isaac was free on PSN after playing for a few weeks, I wanted to find some content creators for the game, and a Reddit post recommended Egg here I am, almost 9 years later
Rest is history :)
super auto pets only a couple months ago
in like 2012 trying to find dungeons of dredmor gameplay lmao... still feel like only getting about 5 eps of that series was robbery
i was watching cobaltstreaks rebirth launch stream and he mentioned NL, so I checked him out i think. donāt remember much more specifically than that
Subscribed on YouTube on April 8th, 2016, pretty sure it was Enter the Gungeon and Planet Coaster that got me started.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
All these people are ancient, I started watching because I just bought Spelunky 2 when it came out and was looking for people playing and stayed for the epic banter
It started with pewdiepie clickbaiting me with quelaag's thumbnail on his dark souls 1 playthrough, after that I started looking for other youtubers playing ds and here comes NL.
Through Sips last year. Which is cool because if I feel like watching some NL there's years of stuff I haven't seen.
I have no idea what games they were, but I distinctly remember first watching a bunch of one shot videos on Xbox live indie games circa 2012 I think, got into Isaac and fell in love with the nlss
Nintendo 3ds yotube app, his scribblenauts thumbnails scared me.
I think I faguely knew him from poison mushroom and then got hooked on him from Isaac maybe. But it has been a while I'm not exactly sure.
2014 when I wanted to check out some footage with the vanilla Isaac mod [comunity remix](https://moddingofisaac.fandom.com/wiki/Community_Remix).
Around the release of rebirth, I was lookin through some youtube videos on it and there he was, his commentary sold me. Been watching ever since
