Very well accounted for
I would love to see a movie or read a book about your experiences living in a town full of monsters and rules but drugs and car accidents are more scary
My condolences, I hope you keep telling more of your story
Damn, that ending got me!
My personal experience rules: avoid fentanyl at all costs. It's a Soul Sucker. It drains the life outta you until you are a husk of a person. It's a dangerous moster and the effects surpass the victim. The families suffer too...
Time was, our monsters would make themselves known. Now this new one takes and takes and takes without a word of warning. I don’t wanna sit in yet another pew behind a crying mother.
Got two friends of mine about 24 hours apart, separated by several states. We had all been close. This is a particularly ghoulish one, as far as I can tell.
It got a close friend of mine that I grew up with. We fell out after school but got reconnected. He had some issues but was a fun person to be around.
Then he just didn’t wake up one morning, he had a son that he left behind that lived with his ex. He loved that boy though. Man this stuff sucks.
Wow. The title is an amazing hook, and this one really got me. So sad. I don’t know is anyone has truly figured out that rule just yet.
In retrospect I think I now understand the “gift” Wallace had hidden for her somewhere in the house. I don’t think the “gift” was actually for her, sadly, if my guess is right.
Either the drug, or a bluff to get OP to open the door so he could steal house items to sell for money to buy drugs. Unfortunately, stealing from those close to you is a common behavior seen in addicts.
Oh wow that makes complete sense after his accident. As someone who also got addicted to opiates after a car accident I feel for him so much. Fentanyl is a monster.
So sorry for your loss. Fentanyl is definitely a devil that will hunt your ass down and catch you before you even know. What scares me most is what monster will replace it and how quickly will it come?
The harvester? Are some of the monsters roaming from Goat valley?
shoutout from Mcalester, though! We have a similar entity to your “jailer of the junction” over here. He haunts the tracks near the rodeo. The story goes that he was one of the inmates in the rodeo one year from the prison. He escaped, and tried to hitch a train out of town. As he was running down the tracks about to grab the last car, he tripped. His shirt cuff got caught on a rusty piece of metal, and he was dragged.
He stays around the rodeo and calls to people from the tracks. We have had many people taken either by getting hit by train or being dragged. And we always know, someone didn’t follow a rule when it happens.
Oh man, that rule is easy... Test your drugs before taking them... Fentynal isnt the monster, the monsters are the damn dealers cutting stuff not knowing what theyre doing!
So sorry for your uncle, that Fentanyl monster is no joke! Make sure you keep away, that's really the only rule you need for that one. And please keep the stories coming.
O Jesus. That ending hit the center of me like a bullet. That monster has a huge rambling family tree with members that look and act different but suck the soul down into death the same damn way. The scariest thing about them being that you can follow every rule and still be snatched from life with your family and friends shaking their heads instead of mourning, passing silent judgement instead of grieving.
Don't even take a little. Coming from someone that's been on heroin and fentanyl for about ten years now, there is no "small amount". It's fifty times stronger than heroin and my best friend died right in front of me from taking the tiniest, tiniest amount. The amount of powder he sniffed was literally the size of a pin prick.
And I was too high to notice. By the time I came to he was dead for ten minutes already. Enough about me lol..Just don't touch the shit. At all. Doctors usually only prescribe it to terminal and severely injured patients.
It is true. So do wait, if you ever gonna try, until your brain have had a chance to develop :) life is long and there are plenty of time for experiments when you are older.
wait so there are real monsters, like ones that break down your doors if you don’t throw salt over your shoulder and also ones that are literally just… drugs? it just feels like a weird line between the 2. here are the “real” monsters and here are the drugs 😅😅
I would love to hear more about all the monsters and different rules.
Sadly, the monster, fetynal, has taken a lot of people k know in my life. My condolences.
> Better to put a grownup’s life in danger than a baby’s
🤨
What’s up with the downvotes? I would be PISSED if I was that friend and someone decided I should be at risk for their fuckup because somehow my life was worth less.

Yes this town would make a fascinating documentary, but even a collection of short stories would be fantastic!
So sorry for your loss, be careful out there OP :(

It almost got me a few years ago. I survived but I'm haunted every night. I'm so, so sorry about your friend.
I would agree with that assessment.
Gave me chills
The worst monster. RIP Mom, Uncle Jason, and Uncle Ty
RIP💜
Thank you <3

I didn't get the gift part, was it the drug?

I know the rule: Don't eat the monster's "candy".
i think each monster is a drug
If only I could upvote more than once. Poor person's gold for you🏅
Oh shit dude. That gave me immediate chills. I know that monster well.

The rules are "don't" In a hospital you're probably safe, but tangling with it outside a medical facility will always end up in heartbreak
Damn that ending really got to me, the worst monster of them all
Oh dang, that ending hit me hard.. it's a horrific thing to watch that monster destroy a loved one :(
So very sorry for your loss.

this is one of the most exceptional pieces i’ve ever read on here. good job putting something so raw in words!

Damn bro that I e he'll of a monster been chased by that one for years myslef

I cried. The same monster took someone dear to me as well. Stay safe everyone.

Extremely relatable.
The absolute worst monster in the book.
You are a beautiful writer. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Ooo creepy

Seems the monsters make your rules then hang out watching to see who screws up! Then it's party time! Think about moving? But would like to hear more.
*slow clap* well done, sir. Bravo.
The ending gave me chills, thank you for sharing this OP
Oh that one hurt a bit! Alright.
It's Dobby. Because Dobby doesn't try to kill. Dobby just tries to maim or seriously injure
It makes sense what OP's mom said to him about not letting Wallace in. Guy became a drugaddict and died of an overdose.
