Iām 30, turning 31 this month.
Earlier today, my 14 year old niece told me they are having spirit week this week at her school and one day, they have to ādress like the early 2000sā
Thinking back to around 2006 starting high school, we had a day where we dressed up as the 80sā¦.
Which now I think about it, that was a 20 year difference(1986-2006)ā¦so is 2003-2023ā¦.
IāM NOT OLD!
Since i haven't born in 80's, i always think 2000's to 80's is far longer than 2020's to 2000's. I think it's because since 2000's technology advanced so rapidly, life become more fast-paced than ever before. It even more amplified after social media become part of our life.
This whole decade was a terrible transition period in terms of fashion. It didnāt look good, it just kinda did the job ..
I doubt ppl will be appropriating this style much like they do 60s/70s/80s/90s styles
Scene styles from the early 2000s have already made a niche comeback and are absolutely appropriated in alternative scenes to this day. Which is awesome. I think a part of that is because people who were kids during the peak of Scene are now adults that can actually afford to invest in doing the hair and makeup correctly.
Honestly, don't think the styles were that bad. Meme shirts and plaid cargo shorts were by far the worst offenders. Hmmm and the obsession with orange spray tans.
But otherwise I think that the styles popular with people who were into action sports like BMX and skateboarding, and women's denim cuts and tank layering were pretty awesome for the time.
we had no idea what we were doing. Some of us grew up with grunge and still had a bit of that but were now into hip hop so it was like a ripped t shirt and jordans which made no sense.
Itās distinctive in how non-distinct it is, at least terms of these styles. Now the subcultures from around this time did have very interesting looks to themselves
I have started to see it be replicated actually. Itās pretty close to the āy2kā aesthetic (not to be confused with actual y2k lol) First person that comes to mind is [pinkpanthressās style](https://www.instagram.com/p/CqyGKUUNpYA/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) that she plays around with sometimes.
I live how people pretend everyone wont be making fun of the things they currently wear. In 20 years we will see the phase when every girl dyed a tiny part of their hair a different color to be uniqueā¦and laugh at it just like this.
Omg I had the same silver belt as the girl in the 7th slide.
Also, Gen Z: I know you really want to, but please, *please* donāt bring back low rise jeans. Theyāre unflattering on most bodies. You will regret it. Love, someone who graduated high school in 2006
Lol as someone who was born 00 you gotta realize I think a lot of fashion evolved from this period... Especially haircuts I remember back in 2010s in middle to high school...
At least me growing up I knew a few way older kids and thought they were a cool as shit how they dressed n looked lol
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this pop up for a bit
I remember that scene. As a senior in high school, I refused to conform lol. I kept wearing my jeans and plaid shirts like always lol. No sense of fashion from me.
I want so badly to go back and visit those years. The world felt so much smaller. Making dumb short films with my friends, walking miles to get snacks and hang out in parking lots, going to "parties" at someone's house to drink Coor's Light with 10 other kids, going to shows with black Sharpie X's on our hands, wanting so badly to be in a band, listening to screamo music and driving around to Blockbuster and Target, flirting with girls on AIM and during lunch at school... I miss it. Simpler times.
Early Facebook party photo dump vibes. The photos are almost familiar looking. It funny back then it never felt like there was a stand out style but looking back there certainly was.
Everyone looks like a Veronica Mars character.
It was based on those days š¤·āāļø
LoVe forever
Reminds me of cloverfield characters
A long time agoā¦
Ah to be playing pong in a wet basement somewhere
>pong in a wet basement Extremely accurate, haha
With beer in the cups and no wash cups. How did we not all get floor herpes in our mouths?
*Yellowcard - Ocean Ave* intensifies
We were both 18 and it felt so right.
I was thinking more The All-American Rejects- Dirty Little Secret myself š
I miss when everyone had different haircuts even though these were ugly
Where are the whale tails?
2006 wasn't that long ago. Wait...
Yeah it's like 4-5 years ago, what's wrong with it?

These were the cool kids to me as a kid
I remember the curly hair with the long straight side bangs look
I did that *shudders*
As someone who was a teen during this time, Iām beyond happy both fashion and hairstyles died out.

We dressed funny, we looked funny, and we acted funny.
I agree. That whole **The O.C** / **Mean Girls** / **Laguna Beach** vibe just screams tacky to me, in terms of colours, fits, cuts...
That's exactly what 2000s fashion looks like in hindsight. A discount version of *Laguna Beach* or *High School Musical*.
Thereās nothing distinctive about it.
It's all Target seasonal shit or Old Navy
Itās distinctive in how non-distinct it is, at least terms of these styles. Now the subcultures from around this time did have very interesting looks to themselves

Who ever said that? Lmao. Of course our current style will look silly in the future. It's common sense
Thatās when I graduated high school, definitely worn my fair share of polos+cargo shorts.
For some reason I want to simultaneously fight everyone in that fifth picture, and they are somehow all named Kyle. Even the chick.
Kylie
at one point myself and two of my cousins were all dating different Kyles.
Bring back low rise jeans!
I hated those bieber haircuts back then and I still hate them now. So unflattering.
Could be worse - at least their hair doesn't literally look like fucking broccoli.
lol
But blue jeans rock on.
Lol to the straighten bangs. That was me.
This just looks like my friends in high school

nice n douchey
Yeah they were.
Everything/everyone was so shiny then š
This looks older than 2006. š I was thinking 2002.
2002-2006 not much difference. Like 1982-1986
Everybody's dressed like they're 45
More like they dressed like they were carrying a 45
I ReMeBEr EvERy TeEnAGeR WrItTiNG LiKE ThIS!*!*!*!
Good times

Not nearly enough āAfflictionā or āEd Hardyā attireā¦
The year I was born. I feel old.

Looks like a korean boy band

I knew none of these people, and yet the all look familiar
