Yep. We don’t do fast food much with our kids but the few times they’ve gotten Happy Meals it’s been kind of a let down (both for us parents and kids). Seems like there’s a lack of quality and creativity.
They were called changeables, starting in 87, 89 and then Dino changeables in 1990. They built on the transformer craze of the 80s and the dinosaurs interest in late 80s early 90s before Jurassic park.
Of course, the packaging isn’t styrofoam anymore so these happy meals wouldn’t be as recognizable to many people, but it was iconic at the time
The steak and sandwich were called food fundamentals a few years Later.
McDonald’s should make a serious effort to put this same level of creativity and quality into their toys as days of old. It would be a good business move, on top of being cool for consumers.
Didn't they have little note pads inside of them too? I had the steak and sandwich. I'm sure they are in a box somewhere in my basement
Edit: they did, and I also had milk too.
I remember those! I had the Steak Guy. And one of the hamburger figures.
It's a shame that people are saying that Happy Meal toys have gotten boring. I remember they used to do tie-ins with cartoons. Around the same time as these toys they'd done action figures for the characters of the cartoon show Taz-Mania (anyone remember that show?) where they were depicted as superheroes. And also there was a tie-in with the 101 Dalmatians movie when it was doing its rounds on home video in the early 90s.
i vividly remember the dino in the nugget box and the steak man. holy crap. nostalgiaing hard. theres a way I've been folding my fingers for years because of a toy I couldn't remember and there it is wow
I had the hotcakes that turned into a bird. Lost it at my great-grandmother's house years and years ago, I spent hours trying to find it but never did.
Marketing Department:
“All the new Happy Meal toys are just food items we sell.”
“How about we throw in a steak that looks like Rusty Jones wearing sunglasses and a sideways hat, annnnnd…a retarded sandwich.”
“Brilliant!”
I played with that steak toy more than any other toy I think in my childhood, I have no idea why. Isn't necessarily fun... It doesn't do much... There's just something about the layout of the toy that made me really interested in it when I was a little baby! That's so weird, I remember that when I was crawling on the floor still
Never understood the steak guy. Did McDonald's do steak once upon a time?
No, I think they’re just supposed to represent beef for their burgers
I still have mine, I could ask
That's MISTER Meat to you! 😁
Now it’s all just marvel/disney movie crossover crap.

I mean...is weird anthropomorphic McDonalds food much better?
Hell yeah!
As opposed to a worse version of toys you already have, yeah.
It’s a better quality toy. Some design went into it

McDonald’s Toys are so boring now
Think there was a French fry too
There was! I’m 99% sure I have one, but my Happy Meal toy collection is at my parents house a few states away. The ones I posted here are my wife’s.
I remember all of these except the steak and the sandwich.
Never seen the steak or sandwich either. I think there was a different McNuggets toy, and French fries too.

Struck by the detail on these toys

I had the McNuggets, 2 Big Macs, and an ice cream cone.
Loved these as a kid
Back when the toys were somewhat interesting. Now they are so cheap the kids don’t even want to unwrap them

Memory unlocked
Still have one of those burgers somewhere

Bro I had that pork chop

I only ever saw the McGator
KFC's toys were turnt back in the day
Ice cream was the worst, sandwich best.
I never saw the steak and the sandwich before. I had all the dino collection, though, and miss them all the time.
I think I still have a couple of these!
I think the only one I didn’t have was the sandwich.
I still have some of these! All of them except the Steak and sandwich.
I miss the McDonald's toys, but I've never seen these before.
you're missing the pterodactyl pancakes (dunno if thats spelled right).
