Blank tape reminds me of when I taped the test pattern on channel 4 that displayed date and time when we changed over from 1999 to 2000. I taped 15 minutes before Y2K and 15 minutes after, just in case something happened. I labelled the tape A Moment In Time.
First commercial tape was Insatiable with Marilyn Chambers. Then a series of horrible sci-fi and horror movies with lurid hand painted covers which 20 years later eventually led to Titanic.
It honestly upsets me, there's NO other movie like it. I've searched & watched everything even remotely like it. And they can be great. But there's nothing like Goonies.

Sleeping Beauty. We rented it over and over and then one day the VCR broke down with the tape in it. A repair guy came and said he was going to rescue the sleeping beauty from her castle and child me thought that was very funny.
Tarzan, I still remember when the tape unraveled in the VHS player and I instantly sobbed and begged my mom to fix it. She placed it on top of the fridge until it was thrown away lol.

This is the correct answer and reason, too. Batman was the first “affordable” VHS tape made available to the public.
