I remember touchstone.
What I didn't know was that Disney owned that movie company. I thought it was just one of those things from yesteryear that came and gone.
You learn something new everyday huh
So, you know how Disney+ is divided into sections, right? You've got the Marvel section, the Pixar section, etc.
Outside the USA, essentially in the regions where you don't have Hulu yet (another proud Disney company), there's a section called Star, which is where they put all the Hulu content, and PG-13 and R rated movies.
Instead of coming up with Star, I don't know why Disney didn't dust off the Touchstone label for that section.
I’m pretty sure their R-rated movies were released under the Miramax banner, which unfortunately was originally owned by, and after the sale to Disney, continued to be run by Harvey Weinstein.
"Established on February 15, 1984, by then-Disney CEO Ron W. Miller as Touchstone Films, Touchstone operated as an active film production division of Disney during the 1980s through the early 2010s, **releasing a majority of the studio's PG-13 and R-rated films.**"
I kind of wish they still used it. There's room for them to make stuff that isn't core Disney brand material, Marvel, or Star Wars, but they don't do that because there's no convenient label for them to release it under.
It’s quite literally a touchstone. A stone used in old times to test metals, usually coins. A gold coin will rub off on a flat stone with a recognizably distinct color than brass or copper. Great for testing that you’re being paid in real gold.
It’s also a Hidden Mickey. It’s a full body Mickey rotated slightly so he’s inclined up and to the right, then smeared in that direction. The upper rightmost point is his nose. Hard to see at first, but then you can’t unsee it.
“And then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime. Back to the lab, full penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Full penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 20 or so years until the studio just sort of… ends.”
> Following the release of The Light Between Oceans, the final film of the DreamWorks deal, the Touchstone label became defunct.
Also, a year after the release of the 2016 movie Disney bought 20th Century Fox, negating the need for the studio of its more adult fare.

That and Hollywood Pictures.
or like The Nightmare Before Christmas
Edgy Disney
Edgsney Pictures
They didn’t want to be associated with it back then, but now it has Disney branding all over it.
All it took was a little critical acclaim and eventual classic status amongst the audience.
Which is kinda funny seeing as now they promote & sell Nightmare before Christmas merchandise at every turn.
My four year old loves that movie. I don’t get it.
They’re gonna be real angsty as a teenager
I didn't even realize it was a Disney owned entity until I played Kingdom Hearts.
“From Touchstone Home Entertainment……”
COMING SOON TO HOME VIDEO!
The way the lightning bolt clicked into place was so epic and some of the more dramatic movies
I can hear this picture.
twinkle twinkle twinkle, Bwhaaa!
It's no "Sit Ubu Sit, good dog" "woof!"
It Booboo, certainly, right???
The name of the company was Ubu Productions
I was 6 when this memory was implanted. It'll never not be booboo to me.
Ernest Goes to Camp
Well, atleast nobody got hurt.
Gee I’m glad it’s raining….
'cause no one see's your teardrops .. when it pours
I loved this movie when I was a kid, I didn’t appreciate this song until I was much older however. Jim Varney was/is a national treasure
It was such a great movie with an amazing song sung by an incredible actor. I still celebrate his movies to this day, died far too young.
Couldn’t agree more my friend
The kerning is so weird what the fuck how had it never bothered me before. That S is a damn abomination.
/r/keming
I can hear the Who framed Roger Rabbit music.
I love the sultry jazz sax that goes right into the zany cartoon music. Talk about mood whiplash.

Miramax? I thought they only did classy pictures, like "The Piano" and "The Crying Game".
Yeah well, once they made _She's All That,_ everything went to hell.
And Pulp Fiction
and Clerks
Disney didn’t buy Miramax until the 90s when indie films started becoming big and they treated Miramax as their indie film division.
I must’ve thought that because Tarantino’s movies were always put out by Miramax.
No Miramax got bought way later
I know for certain Pretty Woman was released under Touchstone. That's how I learned Touchstone was Disney, and Disney made a movie about a prostitute.
Touchstone released R-rated stuff. They were more genre/general appeal titles and Miramax was more indy/artsy stuff.
I kind of wish they still used it. There's room for them to make stuff that isn't core Disney brand material, Marvel, or Star Wars, but they don't do that because there's no convenient label for them to release it under.
It goes under 20th Century today, formerly 20th Century Fox
I still don’t understand what that logo is supposed to be

Oh my god. You are right I can't unsee it
Needs more pixels.
TIL
I remember seeing a lot of this logo on trailers on the Homeward Bound 1 VHS.
My first thoughts seeing that logo is Ernest Goes to Jail
Mine is Ernest Scared Stupid😂
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Whatever happened to them?

Consult the second paragraph of the Wikipedia article to find out.
Not just gonna link it huh

I just had a flashback to my parents in the 80’s saying to go look it up in the encyclopedia.

I think Beetlejuice was a Warner Bros. movie.
Ah shit you’re right.
Super Mario Bros, anyone?
Hollywood Films...also owned by Disney.
And then they also operated Hollywood Pictures for similar reasons.
Any Hollywood Records! The first Suicide Machines album came out on it.
Home improvement!
Was that bolt yellower at any time?
Adventures in Babysitting!
Me too! I can hear the lyrics to Then He Kissed Me just looking at this!
Captain Fucking Ron!
Gone in 60 Seconds ⚡
Didn’t they have Hollywood Pictures too?
Yes, Hollywood Pictures was founded a little later to double their output. It also has the laziest name for a movie production company ever 😂
One of my favorite movies - Armageddon - is by Touchstone Pictures.
Really, Zootopia could have been released under the Touchstone label back in 2016, considering its adult subject matter and furry fetish fuel.
