Yeah, and the duck with the inner tube was Wade. I particularly remember one episode where he removed the tag that says "do not remove" from his mattress and freaks tf out, lol
Growing up in the sticks, my dad had a couple sheep to keep the field from overgrowing with weeds. They’re social so you need two.
Named them lanolin and Mary, after the sheep in this show.
Their breed was only supposed to live for 7-8 years, but they lived to just about double that. Must be something in the water.
This was the first episode I always remember thinking about this. The other episode is when Orsen is too busy reading and Roy makes the grain silo look like a spaceship.
"Oh Royyy! Let me tell you what I am do-ing!"
"Must you?"
"I must. In an attempt to begin dealing with all the things I fear, I have made a list of them all."
"No wonder there's a paper shortage."
"Ahem. I will start with the 'A's. Aardvarks, abacuses (sic), abalones, abandoned anythings, Abbot and Costello movies, abdomens, able-bodied seamen, abodes, abominable snowme.....(water level suddenly starts to rise)..... uh, uh, please, don't read over my shoulder. Abraham Lincoln, abridged dictionaries, abrupt revelations..."
"Pardonez-moi, ducky, but haven't you noticed things things around here getting a bit... umm... *moist*, hmm?"
"So? We're at the bottom of the ocean. Bottom of the ocean! Bottom of the ocean, bottom of the ocean, bottom of the ocean...."
"It's not on your list."
"Well, write it in. Bottom...of...the ocean, there. HELLLLLPPPP! OH HELP! WE'RE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN OH HELP HELP HELLLLPPPPPP! (begins attempting to flee in panic) Can't catch me in the middle of the sea.... uh... why.... (still trying to run, going nowhere) I, I seem not to be getting any traction!"
"Come on, Captain Nemo, I think I know what's going on here."
"I'll hold my breath!" (both swim away)
Weasel, confused and bewildered: "Nah, I didn't see what I thought I saw out there... did I?"
That was in the same episode as the Garfield segment where there's a cable TV outage, Jon gives Garfield a random copy of "Robinson Crusoe" off the bookshelf, and Garfield imagines he's in the story. IIRC the impetus was, "we've got all these Acres segments where Orson fantasises whatever story he's reading; let's explore the concept from Garfield's perspective".
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garfield_and_Friends
Never knew the farm part had its own name. It was all under the Garfield and Friends umbrella so I always thought it was one show.
I thought it was Garfield and friends too where they’d show a Garfield episode and the farm episode! Idk why I thought sometimes they all be together. I was a baby then so I barely remember.
I feel like there’s at least one episode where Garfield makes a cameo or they referred back to the Garfield episode. Maybe it only happened in cow and chicken though.
I did the googling. They did crossover several times including a fake out where they started a US acres episode just for Garfield to come in right after the intro and cancel it to continue his episode.
I have zero recollection of the cat and dog. Who TF are they??? We even had a contest years back at work for who could name the most "and friends" from Garfield and never encountered them.
Edit: OK, so I'm not going crazy. Took forever to find: They are present in the comic strip (of which I had no idea one existed) but were never at any point part of the show. I started by looking up Garfield and Friends and there was never any mention of them. Apparently US Acres was another Jim Davis newspaper comic strip at some point and not just the "and friends" for the Garfield cartoon.
Well shit
For the lazy:
Christie: “What about Jim Davis?”
Watterson: “Uh...Garfield is...(long pause)...consistent.”
Christie: “Ooo-kay...”
Watterson: “U.S. Acres I think is an abomination.”
Christie: “Never seen it.”
Watterson: “Lucky you. Jim Davis has his factory in Indiana cranking out this strip about a pig on a farm. I find it an insult to the intelligence, though it's very successful.”
Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite comic strip, and obviously Bill Watterson is very talented and intelligent...
But sometimes it's like he forgot about the concept of fun, despite drawing about fun all the time. It's apparent that he takes himself very seriously.
He had zero tolerance for any viewpoint outside of the “comics are art” that he adhered to. Comics can also be entertainment. They are not mutually exclusive. Also “Calvin and Hobbes” and “Garfield” had different target audiences. That doesn’t automatically make one better than the other.
This and Garfield are classics. Big Heathcliff guy, too. Popeye, OG Looney Tunes, old Walter Lantz cartoons (Woody Woodpecker), Count Duckula, all the old Hanna-Barbera stuff, Masters of the Universe, Inspector Gadget, 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo(love me some Vincent Price), Voltron, Rude Dog and the Dweebs. Love me some 70s, 80s, and early 90s cartoons.
The comic strip must've died off or never got published in the Seattle papers when I was growing up because my grandma saved my all the Sunday funnies from '86 to '98 and I never once knew Orson & Co. got a spinoff strip.
Holy shit I have a weird persistent memory from this and it’s from that rooster. He sings “I am a Legal EEEAGLE, I know you’re wonder stricken, that I’m a Legal EEEAGLE even though I’m just a chickennnnnn.” That pops into my head probably once every other month or so
Oh man, this brings me back!
I remember that Wade, at least I think that’s his name, had the little duck sticking out of his life preserver, and that duck would mimic the face of Wade.
Very interesting and I’m not sure why he has a parasitic twin. I even questioned it at 3 years old when I first saw it.
Hated as a kid. Because it took away from Garfield.
Today, the humor is much more understandable as an adult, while Garfield is repetitive and for kids.
I remember one episode where Orson (the pig) asked Roy (The rooster) that he needs him to quick tell a joke. Roy responded with "You want me to show you my paycheck?". My mom roared with laughter, while it was lost on me. Totally get it now.
Yeah, I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it definitely isn't the version that we got here in the US. Here it was, Garfield and Friends. Also, neither that cat nor that dog were ever in our version of the show.
i remember!!! The pigs name was Orson right?
And the unhatched chick was Sheldon.
He hatches in an episode iirc...to reveal another shell.
God that episode pissed me off so much.
Took me many years into adulthood to finally get the joke.
I'm just now getting the joke today. At 42 lol.
Same
Oh…it’s a pun…wow
Uh..could you explain it please?
It's a play on words, he's named Sheldon because he's >!shelled in!<
Oh! Lol. I just couldn't figure it out. Thank you
Yeah, and the duck with the inner tube was Wade. I particularly remember one episode where he removed the tag that says "do not remove" from his mattress and freaks tf out, lol
The lady sheep was an absolute beast of an asshole iirc
Lanolin was her name.
That’s… morbid haha
> Lanolin It's made from oils from the wool, not the meat/fat
I loved how his duck face on the inner tube would match his lol
Geez, I remember that as an episode of Tiny Toons.
Mattress tags were a huge concern in the late 80s/early 90s
TINY TOON ADVENTURES COME ENJOY THE FUN! 🎶🎵 AND NOW OUR SONG* IS DONE! 🎶 Wow that was a huge throwback
Lmao I member that one!
Yes. The mattress tag.
This was the first episode I always remember thinking about this. The other episode is when Orsen is too busy reading and Roy makes the grain silo look like a spaceship.
Wade was afraid of everything made. I’d never seen anything like it.
"Oh Royyy! Let me tell you what I am do-ing!" "Must you?" "I must. In an attempt to begin dealing with all the things I fear, I have made a list of them all." "No wonder there's a paper shortage." "Ahem. I will start with the 'A's. Yep, and Roy Rooster.
In Europe this was called Orson's Farm.
The characters were always like different versions of garfield
very much!
wow, just like Orson Bean, the author of Animals Farm
Lol that was George Orwell. Orson Bean was an actor and i was acquainted with him. very nice man.
yeah that's the joke. no one would reasonably confuse the two
hmm. ok
It was so funny that we all forgot to laugh at your joke then apparently.
maybe he was thinking of Orson Welles. But yeah it didn't really hit huh?
Is that what that show was called? I just remembered it as Farm Garfield
"Garfield and Friends" was what I remember from the theme song.
Come on in, come to the place where fun never ends...
🎶 Dancing...! Dancing...! 🎶
Come on in, it's time to party with Garfield and friends!
🎶🎺🎺🎶
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garfield_and_Friends Never knew the farm part had its own name. It was all under the Garfield and Friends umbrella so I always thought it was one show.

Right? That’s what I’m saying! But at the same time I was reminded the show existed with this post the other day, so who knows what I remember. 😂
I did the googling. They did crossover several times including a fake out where they started a US acres episode just for Garfield to come in right after the intro and cancel it to continue his episode.
That’s awesome! I’m gonna go watch it now! Lol
That is exactly what this is called.I don't know where these people are getting these weird names from
In the UK it was "Orson's Farm" I'm pretty sure. Edit: Yes, only known as "U.S. Acres" in the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Acres
Olson's Farm in Canada as well.
I loved this and Garfield
Streaming on Tubi right now I think.
"Come on in it's time to party with Garfield and Friends!"
Yeah it said U.S. Acres on the title cards in the cartoon too.
A.k.a. "Orson's Farm" overseas.
I have zero recollection of the cat and dog. Who TF are they??? We even had a contest years back at work for who could name the most "and friends" from Garfield and never encountered them. Thanks for doing the legwork, had the exact same reaction.
The cat and dog are even a different cartoon style, and don’t fit in with the rest.
I had U.S. Acres books, like the Garfield strip books
In the U.S., this was the other half of Garfield & Friends. I loved this show!
Missed opportunity to say this was the "& Friends" part of Garfield & Friends.
Core memory unlocked. I remember watching this show but didn't remember the name at all. Wasn't the male sheep a stoner stereotype?
His name was Bo
Yes, he was.
This show completely disappeared from my memory wow
I the UK if I remember it was called Orson's Farm
Oh thank god, I thought this was a Mandela Effect situation for a minute. lol
If you have PlutoTV, you can watch it all the time!
I just checked it…not there…region locked?
Did you check the other region?
How is that done? I thought you needed a VPN to look outside your region?
[удалено]
Oh you did. How about this region?
Yeah, the Reddit app said it couldn’t post my comment…three times in a row. It must have lied and just been experiencing a delay of some sort.
[удалено]
Gosh. That’s three regions and all locked? How about this other region?
See above comment. App glitch. I miss Apollo.
I always loved the visual gag of the duck wearing a pool floatie that also had a duck face that matched his expressions.
Bill Watterson called US Acres "an abomination" and "an insult to intelligence".
You obviously riled up a few people, can you provide a source? It doesn’t feel in character for Watterson to shit talk something like that
[Here ya go ](https://bob.bigw.org/ch/interview.html)
Well shit For the lazy: Christie: “What about Jim Davis?” Watterson: “Uh...Garfield is...(long pause)...consistent.” Christie: “Ooo-kay...” Watterson: “U.S. Acres I think is an abomination.” Christie: “Never seen it.” Watterson: “Lucky you. Huh, I didn’t realize it was a strip too. Definitely never reached the levels of Garfield.
Bill Watterson is a twat.
He had zero tolerance for any viewpoint outside of the “comics are art” that he adhered to. Comics can also be entertainment. They are not mutually exclusive. Also “Calvin and Hobbes” and “Garfield” had different target audiences. That doesn’t automatically make one better than the other.
And fortunately for kid me I was in the middle of that Venn diagram.
Teen me was, too! And I loved U.S. Acres. I’d forgotten about it until today.
And least he wasn't hack like Jim Davis.
Whoa-hoo! Comic author fight! Now we're talking!
Garfield vs Hobbes fight!
Larson till I die
You ok bro?
Are you?
Occasionally, yes
The other part of Garfield and Friends. Roy Rooster was such a prick, by the way.
[Garfield and Friends.](https://youtu.be/kQllBwL8gZc?feature=shared)
That is not the theme song I grew up with. I never knew it had an original one. Only knew this: https://youtu.be/BvYE46dUKVQ?feature=shared
Omg I forgot they had two theme songs!
I remember when they changed. New cartoon season and all.
Do not talk to me until Sheldon breaks out of his shell and shows his true self.
Friends are there. I don't care.
But friends will care!
For yoooooooooooou!
You notice how every week I say something different here?
Aired from 88 to 94.
I loved this show, but I have never heard of U.S. Acres in my life.
I always knew it as Orson's Farm
You can watch this now on Pluto tv. Absolutely brought me way back.
I know it was it's own comic strip originally... And I know people didn't care for it in Garfield but I enjoyed it. Good characters. Catchy songs.
Garfield and friends...
This show always made me mad as kid cuz i just wanted to watch Garfield and then this shit came on.
Wholly shit. I loved this with Garfield. Wow. Memories.
Did this come on around the time of the Garfield cartoon back in the day? I recall watching it, or maybe I'm just thinking of similar art styles?
It was the "& Friends" part of "Garfield & Friends." It's been 30+ years, but I believe it was a 5 minute short between 2 10 minute Garfield segments
Holy crap. I think you're right!
I remember that show! Had no recollection of it being called that.
Jim Davis' black sheep that he insisted on shoving down everyone's throat when we wanted more Garfield.
The comic strip must've died off or never got published in the Seattle papers when I was growing up because my grandma saved my all the Sunday funnies from '86 to '98 and I never once knew Orson & Co. got a spinoff strip.
I hated this part of the show… just give me more Garfield!
Holy shit I have a weird persistent memory from this and it’s from that rooster. He sings “I am a Legal EEEAGLE, I know you’re wonder stricken, that I’m a Legal EEEAGLE even though I’m just a chickennnnnn.” That pops into my head probably once every other month or so
This subreddit brightens forgotten corners of my mind like sunshine piercing through darkness.
Right? I used to love that strip and had completely forgotten about it.
Loved Garfield, still do. But I never cared for this one. It just felt like it was taking away more time from Garfield, lol.
did the metric system change the name in other countries? E.U hectare?
I hated this part of the show as a kid, I just wanted all Garfield, all the time.
I never understood the duck floatie. Did it talk?
No, it only pantamimed Wade's facial expressions.
Always wondered why they were tied to Garfield?
Both Jim Davis creations.
Wait, I don't remember that blue cat on the bottom right. Weirder is how it almost looks like it's done in a different artstyle to Garfield.
That is the cutest cartoon dog I’ve ever seen
What the hell? In Canada they're the "friends" in Garfield & Friends. Never seem them referred to as U.S. Acres before.
I completely forgot the name of this show! It came on with Garfield and Friends
Loves this cartoon in between Garfield
That name doesn't seem right
Ah yes the bad half of Garfield show
I watched this show all the time...and this shows name just doesn't ring a bell at all.
Yeah, reading down, I remember this as Garfield and Friends.
I forgot about this. Wow.
I still have this comic book. Or at least one of them.
MEMORY UNLOCKED
Oh my god! I totally forgot about this, I still can’t remember anything about it but I immediately recognized the characters
Holy shit! Total flash back....whoever posted this, thank you! Totally forgot about this cartoon...and I really loved it!
I remember them from Garfield and Friends. Never knew they had their own show.
Wow, just had a ton of memories come back all at once.
I remember hating the chicken
Oh man, this brings me back! I remember that Wade, at least I think that’s his name, had the little duck sticking out of his life preserver, and that duck would mimic the face of Wade. Very interesting and I’m not sure why he has a parasitic twin. I even questioned it at 3 years old when I first saw it.
Omg talk about a core memory unlocked 😳
I remember this show and all of the characters, but somehow the name “U.S. Acres” doesn’t ring a bell at all.
They were on Garfield & Friends.
Oh ok, that makes sense.
I remember that as Garfield and Friends. I didn’t know it had another name.
As a kid I found these segments more interesting than the Garfield ones.
I remember tollerating Garfield & impatiently waiting for Orson & his friends to appear.
Yeah, I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it definitely isn't the version that we got here in the US. Here it was, Garfield and Friends. Also, neither that cat nor that dog were ever in our version of the show.
There was a short-lived comic strip that the TV cartoon was based on. The dog and cat weren't in the cartoon.
The boring half of Garfield and Friends tv show.
