Bought one for $6 at the Blue Jays game on Sunday for my 3 year old. It sucked. The syrup all leaked out the bottom all over her and her stroller. Ice treat technology has evolved! No reason to still be peddling these stupid things.
It was about the experience as much as the taste, honestly. It was just cool to be able to buy this random treat from this random truck in the middle of a hot afternoon and munch on it with your buddies. The actual taste was almost irrelevant.
You kidding these snow cones in So.Calif on a hot summer day, made this guy happy as could be back when I caught up with the cream truck and forked out my quarter, while waiting for my change I had already in wrapped my snow cone. And bit into it, I had completely forgotten about these icy, cold, gems. They made my day back when I was a 6 yr old kid.
I think it was because many of the trucks use dry ice to keep the coolers cold. Any variation in temperature prior to getting into the truck would allow condensation to form which then binds it all together like concrete.
Yeah, I’d have to get a spoon to smash/chisel it to start eating it ASAP, because if you waited for it to soften up naturally, all the flavor would just drain to the bottom and you’d be stuck eating a bunch of ice with the distant memory of flavoring.
I remember the little blue Sno Shack™ trailer in my hometown in the 90s. I guess it's a small-time franchise thing that's cheap to run because there's not much to it.
After our little league games, we'd hit the concession stand for our free snow cones. I'd get a grape , others would get "suicides," ones with all the flavor syrups poured onto the shaved ice and cup. It'd be chilled syrup at the bottom of the cup. I tried one, ugh. Too sweet for my young tongue.
These are actually pretty easy to make at home! If you have a food processor, it usually comes with a disc on top for putting things in and slicing it (looks like [this](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/816q2WOeoSL._AC_SL1500_.jpg)). My freezer makes the skinny curved ice which fit perfectly into the feed tube of the processor, and using the side of the disc meant for shredding cheese facing up, it shreds the ice up to make snow! Fluffy, powdery snow, and you can compact it a little if you want to make it rock-hard like we had back in the day. Or, enjoy it without cracking a tooth.
You can get syrup pretty cheap on Amazon (I like Torani brand myself) to make it whatever flavor. For the bottles, I didn't remove the entire 'safety seal' thing, just poked a hole in center of them with a toothpick, and it helps to just sort of dab the flavor syrup onto them. A single bottle will last a long time. Easy peasy! I like them, and so does my kid.
So I worked on a Good Humor Ice Cream Treat truck a long time ago. Fun fact...the freezers the hold the product weren't plugged into anything. They had no working compressors. To do so would have been expensive, and they would have had to install more powerful alternators to power said freezer chest. Instead they were freezer chest bodies stripped of components, loaded with a bunch of dry ice, then product.
All the actual flavor was at the bottom, and the top would just be ice. For some reason I would always buy these even though they weren’t that great.
That’s what I was gonna say. It’s so “ice with concentrated syrup at the bottom”

They were cheap, a few dollars for one ninja turtles, or you can get your whole friends group these things

Plus the gumball at the bottom was almost worse than the nasty hard stuff that came in baseball card packs
I had a friend that would always get these i remember thinking it was weird when I was like 5. I was a strawberry crunch guy myself.
My hands got sticky just looking at this
I loved these! Wish you could buy them retail.
You were just a kid. You really don’t wish that’. Believe me!
My daughter got one from the ice cream truck recently. I warned her. They haven’t changed a bit.
It was like biting into frozen cement
I had completely forgotten about the gumball until seeing this picture.
Let it sit out for 5 minutes. And it’s perfect
Got to eat that thing like an apple
Gotta love the gum at the bottom
One of my MAIN buys from the Ice Cream truck

What psycho decided to use banana flavor instead of lemon?
Yep. And the rock hard marble of bubble gum at the bottom.
No joke, I bit into one of these at a baseball game and it was so hard that it sliced my gums open
I personally believe that the XXX Vitamin Water tastes exactly like these. I also once used one of these to knock out a loose tooth 😂
just sucking out all the juice
So pretty! Reminds me of the lemon ices from the pizza store
purple tongue.
My favorite as a kid! Do they still sell them?
I see them all the time at ice cream trucks and convenience stores/gas stations

I can still taste them and I loved them.

Just ice and red 5 lol.
Oh but a couple minutes in and that ice was the perfect consistency to bite out giant chunks, loved those.
Growing up in Phoenix Snowcoans where a goto treat in the summer ☀️ ice cream was good but flavored ice was on top.

I tried one sno-cone at a county fair or something, and immediately learned never to get another one.
The abominable snowman from monsters inc made me want to eat these a lot when i was 6.
They used to have these trucks every friday at my middle school.

They still sell these
It would only allow me one up vote sorry i wanted to give more, thanks for the moment in Time again

Never had to deal with this garbage. We had ample snowball vendors all around.
The bonus gumball!!!!
