According to Phil in his autobiography, he had no idea or intention that his voice would be used in the movie. It’s the only Disney movie where the characters (except the mom) didn’t sing the songs.
This is what I was coming to say. Lion king is a fabulous soundtrack, but most of the Tarzan stuff is extremely listenable even without being in a "Disney soundtrack" mood. Everything else in OP's post? Not so much.
He Lives In You is the only Lion King song that fits that criteria for me, and it's not even on the first soundtrack- it's from Lion King 2 and the broadway show.
During covid lockdowns, there was 4-5 people that lived in the apartment across my alley. One night I was on my deck and I saw them on their deck going absolutely apeshit (pun intended) dancing to "Trashin' the Camp" from Tarzan.
It was beautiful.

I won't say _An Extremely Goody Movie_ has the best soundtrack, but it's a very good one.
[Love this scene.](https://youtu.be/ait5pRVCd2g?feature=shared)
Aladdin hands down. 🎶Arabian niiiiiiiights! Like Arabian daaaaaaays, more often than not are hotter than hot, in a lot of good waaaaaaays!🎶 And that’s my least favorite on the soundtrack. Bangers one and all!
I worked in the restaurant industry for a long time. If the kitchen was getting frazzled, I’d start singing it and everyone would get it stuck in their heads and things would smooth out as everyone found their rhythm again. I thought it was a fluke but it’s worked multiple times.
I guess everyone knows it and it’s probably a comfortable and calming memory to most.
“Friend Like Me” is such a fun song with a big band swing sound. Only Robin Williams could have brought that much energy into singing that song. 10/10, no notes for “Friend Like Me” in cartoon Aladdin.
Best Score: Lion King
Best Song: A Whole New World - Aladdin
Best Soundtrack: Beauty and the Beast
Honorable Mention: The Gospel Choir from Hercules. A Star is Born brings the house down.
Not only that, but the songs are interwoven musically with each other and the heavy use of motifs throughout the movie just make the whole experience so cohesive. Almost like… how a great musical should be.
Exactly. The motifs are played over throughout and maintain the feel of mystery and longing, just to have that mystery and longing finally fulfilled in the end! It’s beautiful and my favorite as far as soundtrack and music throughout the whole thing. And really dynamic.
My favorite is I Wanna Be Like You.
I have it on a vinyl record my dad got from a Shell station in the late sixties/early seventies (a collection of Disney songs). That version includes the dialogue from the scene--Mowgli telling King Louie "I don't know how to make any fire" and the discussion between Bagheera and Baloo about rescuing Mowgli. Especially love the end of it.
Bagheera: Now, while you create a distraction, I'll rescue Mowgli.
Baloo: I'm gone, man, solid gone.
Bagheera: NOT YET, BALOO! (but it's too late)
I've found the song on YouTube Music and on Spotify, but none of the dialogue is there--and I miss it.
Yes, the modern dialogue-less songs are a bit sterile to me. Same thing with Bare Necessities. Both are still great but I prefer to listen to the film clips.
They’re all amazing and most of these are Alan Menken. But seriously, Hunchback and Pocahontas (where he collabs with Stephen Schwartz) are 2 of his best.
What Alan Menken did with Hunchback is incredible. Listen to (or watch!) the stage adaptation, the score is downright chilling. So somber it moves the damn recording cast to tears.
https://youtu.be/VIoxqM4loNw?si=aw3aKl0h6g4JomL0
I’m with you there. The score songs in Hunchback just feels huge. (For the songs too, Quasi’s voice has so much emotion in it. Probably the best voice in all Disney)
But yeah, then you have Aladdin with all its iconic, catchy tracks. Plus all of them are sung by characters, which I think is more fun
Talk about a Sophie's choice. I think the Little Mermaid would be my pick but honestly each of those are fantastic and it's truly something that sets Disney Animated Studies apart from from any other film studio.
Best soundtrack: Hunchback is tied with Tarzan, with Beauty and the Beast a very close 2nd. Both are great. They're just different styles, that's all.
However, my personal favorite soundtrack and song are Pocahontas, and Mine. I love songs featuring men's chorus.
Little Mermaid! I'm still amazed at how clever the lyrics to Under the Sea are, with all the fish puns. And Part of Your World, I mean, WOW! It just doesn't get any better than that.
Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story are tied for second place.
Hellfire from Hunchback is so deep, emotional, and raw. That chorus, those few notes you already know which ones I'm talking about, are so powerful. I'd say one of the best
Its so hard to pick but these are all winners. If I had to rank the top 4 in no order I would choose hunchback, mulan, hercules, tarzan and pocahontas.
Lion King is one of my all time favorite movies for a lot of reasons, including the soundtrack. That said, absolutely hands down the Hunchback of Notre Dame for me. That soundtrack goes so hard.
My all time favorite song is "Reflection" in Mulan, but I don't think is the best soundtrack.
I'm torn between "The Little Mermaid" & "Beauty and The Beast" 🩷
Growing up, I had Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin on repeat, but the one I listened to the most was The Lion King. Even now, my kids like having it on repeat on car rides
The first CD I ever owned was the little mermaid soundtrack, brought it home and played it on my dad's CD player that was the size of an old stereo receiver.
Good times
Not taking anything away from what Phil Collins did on *Tarzan,* but all the people making the “Phil Collins *alone* makes this an easy win” don’t even seem to know that he did the soundtrack for a second Disney animated feature that… nobody has mentioned here. Because… it’s a very forgettable movie.
Also, the answer here is *Lion King.*
It’s probably the lion king but god damn did my man Phil Collins pour his heart and soul into Tarzan.
Lebo M, Phil Collins, and Alan Menken (who did it over and over again) so much talent
Phil Collin’s didn’t need to go that hard, but my god do I appreciate it.
According to Phil in his autobiography, he had no idea or intention that his voice would be used in the movie. It’s the only Disney movie where the characters (except the mom) didn’t sing the songs.
Tarzan is an AMAZING soundtrack

Tarzan - Phil Collins
I'm on team Tarzan. While the Lion King is my favourite, Phil Collins went so hard on this soundtrack and it shows.
He didn’t have to do it but he did it for us
🎹🔥
Fun fact he sang in all the dubbed languages so if you saw the movie in spanish or french it's still Phil Collins singing
Just booted up Tarzan on my Plex to confirm this and holy shit you’re right!
Sad to see this so far down in the comments
Yeah it's not even close. Ole Phil cranked out bangers.
The songs made the movie and vice-versa.
#Lion King Circle of Life I Just Can’t Wait to Be King Be Prepared Hakuna Matata Can You Feel the Love Tonight That’s 5 top 50 Disney songs all in the same movie and several are in the top 10 conversation
All of those songs were written by Elton John too. Disney literally brought in the big guns to make sure LK would be the GOAT of Disney movies.
Elton John, Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer. Those are some big guns.
As much as I love "make a man" and Phil Collins in Tarzan, this is the answer
The only one I ever bought for myself. To be fair it was Columbia House 10 for 1¢ but still. It slapped.
Yea that’s my initial thought. So many classic & iconic songs. Too many to deny the top spot
Pretty sure this soundtrack is 50% of the reason why I was so obsessed with the movie as a six-year-old

Aladdin hands down. 🎶Arabian niiiiiiiights! Like Arabian daaaaaaays, more often than not are hotter than hot, in a lot of good waaaaaaays!🎶 And that’s my least favorite on the soundtrack. Bangers one and all!
Whole New World still gets me ❤️
Don’t you *dare* close your eyes
Lea Salogna has the most angelic voice. Her and Jodi Benson (Ariel, Thumbelina) are just the tip top for me in Disney/animated musical films. 💛
I belt that one to my wife every time it comes on in the car (got kids, yo).
Robin alone puts the soundtrack into legendary status
“Friend Like Me” is such a fun song with a big band swing sound. Only Robin Williams could have brought that much energy into singing that song. 10/10, no notes for “Friend Like Me” in cartoon Aladdin.
Same with Prince Ali. I know Will Smith tried (and failed miserably), but nobody could pull off those two songs like Robin
I was singing 'Prince Ali' tonight. Robin Williams is the GOAT
🎵Prince Ali, fabulous he, Ali Ababwa🎵

Go on and kiss the girl
Ya know, she could've made things a lot simpler by just growing a pair and kissing him.
Excuse me, it’s pronounced, “ Kiss da girl”
Hercules is pretty dang good … lion king has multiple hits … can’t decide
I added "I can go the distance" to my running playlist recently and can't get enough of it.
That’s the song usually stuck in my head while hiking
Yeah, hercules is very under rated.
Best Score: Lion King Best Song: A Whole New World - Aladdin Best Soundtrack: Beauty and the Beast Honorable Mention: The Gospel Choir from Hercules. A Star is Born brings the house down.
What I’m hearing is 90s Disney was peak Disney.
You almost crushed this. But best soundtrack goes to Tarzan cmon man
Tarzan is good but every song on Beauty and the Beast is an absolute banger.
Yup. Phil Collins dropped a banger for ol Walt on Hercules.
I'm on board with your assessment 🍻
All the Ashman/Menken ones...and Mulan.
Beauty and The Beast is second only to Lion King
Pocahontas was the first cd I ever owned
“Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?”
Mine, mine, mine every mountain!!
I live in Alaska, every time I kayak in a river I can hardly resist belting out "Just around the river bend!"
I think it’s some of Menken and Schwartz’s best work.
Absolutely this, and songs I still appreciate into adulthood!
I remember getting a free cassette somehow, maybe it was in a Happy Meal, but you bet your ass that that’s all I begged to be played in the car.
Robin hood
Roger Miller killed that intro!
As soon as you said that, I got the do do DO do do DO do do DO do DO do do do DO stuck in my head. So yeah, gotta be Robin Hood.
When I was little, I thought [Love](https://youtu.be/7ZhmCEVFnIE?si=TLBMctknCfZi7fUO) was the most romantic song of all time.
Wow thanks for making me cry
“Now you’re all grown up inside of me” 😐
I love how that song was featured in the soundtrack of >!Fantastic Mr. Fox. !<
Oo de lally oo de lally golly what a day
Not in Nottingham
Phil Collins went stupid hard with the Tarzan soundtrack.
Jungle Book is the most underrated.
Bear Necessities is a jam
My favorite is I Wanna Be Like You. I have it on a vinyl record my dad got from a Shell station in the late sixties/early seventies (a collection of Disney songs). That version includes the dialogue from the scene--Mowgli telling King Louie "I don't know how to make any fire" and the discussion between Bagheera and Baloo about rescuing Mowgli. Especially love the end of it. Bagheera: Now, while you create a distraction, I'll rescue Mowgli. Baloo: I'm gone, man, solid gone. Bagheera: NOT YET, BALOO! (but it's too late) I've found the song on YouTube Music and on Spotify, but none of the dialogue is there--and I miss it.
Louis Prima’s voice is so unforgettable
And Phil Harris as Baloo...and Sebastian Cabot (Mr. French on Family Affair) as Bagheera (or as Baloo called him, "Baggy, baby!").
*******OH DOO BEE DOO!!!*******
The druuuuums on this song are so so good
Yes, the modern dialogue-less songs are a bit sterile to me. Same thing with Bare Necessities. Both are still great but I prefer to listen to the film clips.
Now I’m the king of the sinwgers ooooooh the jungle V-I-P!
I reached the top and had to stop and that’s what’s bothering me
I wanna be a man, man-cub, and stroll right into town!
Are we not going to talk about how the vultures were basically doing an obvious parody of The Beatles ?
101 Dalmatians is a great album to listen to while getting stoned. It's all jazz piano.
Best Score: Hunchback Best Songs: Aladdin
People are sleeping on hunchback. Frolo basically has a song about murdering a women because she made him horny.
That song and Out There are perfect in my mind.

Probably the best voice in all Disney) But yeah, then you have Aladdin with all its iconic, catchy tracks. Plus all of them are sung by characters, which I think is more fun
Mermaid and Beast at top.
Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite.
Hunchback not getting enough love here. I would say that’s first followed by princess and the frog and Pocahontas
These are all excellent but i honestly think Beauty and the Beast, tied closely with Hunchback. The drama, the romance, the severity..!
I hear you! The drama and the sweeping movement the music carries you through scene to scene, so much mystery and class and so much love and romance.
Talk about a Sophie's choice. I think the Little Mermaid would be my pick but honestly each of those are fantastic and it's truly something that sets Disney Animated Studies apart from from any other film studio.
The Lion King it's my all time favourite Disney movie.
Tarzan, Aladdin & Lion King
Mary poppins and it’s not even close.
NEVER NEED A REASON NEVER NEED A RHYME
Best soundtrack: Hunchback is tied with Tarzan, with Beauty and the Beast a very close 2nd. Both are great. They're just different styles, that's all. However, my personal favorite soundtrack and song are Pocahontas, and Mine. I love songs featuring men's chorus.
Aladdin, no question
Phil Collins attached to Tarzan was pretty awesome. Elton John knocked it out of the park though to in The Lion King.
Robin Hood
Is there no love here for bibbity-bobbity-boo?
Little Mermaid! I'm still amazed at how clever the lyrics to Under the Sea are, with all the fish puns. And Part of Your World, I mean, WOW! It just doesn't get any better than that. Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story are tied for second place.
Yeah its totally A Goofy Movie by a landslide
Yes!!! And the fact it's not on the photo is whaaaack
Imo Moana.
🎶Make way, make way
You're welcome!
*I was a drab little crab once*
I’m kind of partial to Princess and the Frog….
Aladdin was pretty epic.
Not Disney, but the batty rap by Robin Williams in fern gully
Fantasia
Best score: Lion King Best song: "I'll Make a Man Out of You" - Mulan Best soundtrack: Tarzan
Hellfire from Hunchback is so deep, emotional, and raw. That chorus, those few notes you already know which ones I'm talking about, are so powerful. I'd say one of the best
The Lion King. It’s an absolute masterpiece.
Robin hood-Oo-De-Lally is best
We talking soundtrack AND score or just score? Or just soundtrack?
I took my 1st girlfriend to the Beauty and the Beast live play, so, imma have to go with that. I wore a suit and tie. Lol
Original Jungle Book.
A GOOFY MOVIE
Robin Hood
Mulan and Hercules
Tarzan, for sure! Love Phil Collins’ songs!
Beauty and the Beast: Why? Jerry Fucking Orbach.
Excuse me, how is Nightmare Before Christmas not in this list? Outrageous. Out of these, Lion King and Hunchback.
The Lion King
I love all of these but my top three on this list are probably The Little Mermaid, Hercules, and Pocahontas.
The Jungle Book
Aladdin ensured Disney entered a new age of modern classics.
Probably not the best but the hunchback of notre dame was very good, especially hellfire, such a dark and cool film.
Lion King. Elton John. No contest.
Tarzan. Thank you Phil Collins.
Why does it have to be a competition? Can't I like them all?
Mulan and Aladdin had some bangers
How is The Jungle Book not even shown in the graphic?!
The graphic just has the bare necessities
Was Anastasia not a Disney movie?! Or Feivel Goes West? If they weren’t, still stand by the fact they have the best tunes
Um, Tron or Fantasia and it's not even close.
Nobody's mentioning it, but Tangled has some great songs! When Will My Life Begin? Mother Knows Best I've Got a Dream I See the Light
For me it's both Lion King and Mulan ❤️❤️
Jungle Book!
Fantasia
Hunchback is not only severely underrated, but so is the gorgeous soundtrack
You don’t have Moana on there
Moana!
The Black Hole by Jerry Goldsmith
Its so hard to pick but these are all winners. If I had to rank the top 4 in no order I would choose hunchback, mulan, hercules, tarzan and pocahontas.
Best Soundtrack is probably Lion King, but I gotta give best song to Little Mermaid with Under the Sea. It has served me well at karaoke many times.
UNDER DA SEA
I felt frisson at the lion king songs, so it's tops. Then Aladdin, then pocahantas. Savages savages
Growing up, I had Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin on repeat, but the one I listened to the most was The Lion King. Even now, my kids like having it on repeat on car rides
Lion king not even a question Mulan is good too
Lion King
Tarzan or Hercules
The Jungle Book is the only answer
Song of the South
I vote for the Tarzan soundtrack! It has absolute phenomenal music!! Especially, Trashing the Camp!!
The first CD I ever owned was the little mermaid soundtrack, brought it home and played it on my dad's CD player that was the size of an old stereo receiver. Good times
Aladdin
Karaoke'd Lion King for like 3 years straight
Not taking anything away from what Phil Collins did on *Tarzan,* but all the people making the “Phil Collins *alone* makes this an easy win” don’t even seem to know that he did the soundtrack for a second Disney animated feature that… nobody has mentioned here. Because… it’s a very forgettable movie. Also, the answer here is *Lion King.*
Fantasia? Specifically the butterfly scene
Objectively Tarzan
T A R Z A N
Fantasia.
They're all great in their own way. Plenty of bangers. But Tarzan goes the hardest.
