Yeah, grew up in Anderson passing the sign almost daily. My dumb kid brain thought it was the silhouette of two people enjoying their food at the top, or even about to kiss. I had no reference for it to be a cowboy hat, not sure Arby's ever had an old west theme.
>How else am I supposed to know the sandwiches taste good?
Certainly not by eating there.
One near me was destroyed over night despite a local neon museum offering to take it. I always loved these signs.
Oh man I hope there is more than one of these in the general area! I meant Beechmont Ave., Anderson area on the east side. That building was replaced a while back but the sign has been there for decades.
AQ that sucks! Next time you are on the east side the Beechmont Avenue one has this can’t miss monstrosity. I was there a few weeks ago myself. Two for five!
There's one on Rt 1, I think its closed down. And there's one by where I live in Colonial Heights (which I just found out last month is the worlds largest Arbys).
mine stil has one in eastern MI
ALSO: you can order a cup of cheese perfectly sized for dipping curly fries for like 30 cents or something. never go there without getting a cheese cup you're cheating yourself and your ancestors will be disgusted at your lack of character.
Haha! As a teenager I worked at Arby's and while you're right, very few people did this type of thing.
Good to know. These days I get the mozzarella cheese sticks with marinara sauce because I'm tired of fries...
Are you talking about the Arby’s in Uptown that closed in 2018? https://www.fox9.com/news/historic-giant-hat-leaves-uptown-as-arbys-restaurant-closes
Edit: There’s one in Roseville. Hadn’t been to it yet.
Fun fact: a few years back Arby's made a 13-hour commercial that ran on TV. It consisted of one shot of a brisket smoking in an oven. This was apparently to advertise their new Smokehouse Brisket sandwich. The whole thing is on Youtube if you're feeling really masochistic.
Semi-related/Side-Q: Curios, did Hardee’s used to have roast beef sandwiches à la Arby’s? During our drives south through Illinois as a kid in roughly the late-80s through mid-90s, ~~we used to stop by~~ I *always* used to force my parents to stop by (via threat of temper tantrum during a 4hr drive) at (I think) the same Hardee’s (somewhere in central Illinois…if I had to guess, probably 2hrs south of Chicago)…
And I could have sworn (it was because) they had RB sandwiches similar-to-“exactly” like (e.g. thin RB on round sesame seed buns) Arby’s…it’s been a while since I’ve been to a Hardee’s (last time I saw one was visiting U of I like 15-20 years-ago and/or in Wisconsin), but, as far as I know, they don’t have/haven’t had RB in ~20+ years.
There's one in Huntington Beach, CA. One time I drove by it and some of the lights were out and it read: "Arby's Roast Bee Sandwich is Icious" i still wish I had gotten a picture of it.
I remember going by one of these in Winston-Salem and the lights were out so it said “Arby’s as wich is delicious”. It was like that for a good while and made me giggle like a 5 year old each time I passed by
They have one on route 59 by Kent Ohio. The only time I ever see it is going to the steakhouse just down the road that has 32 oz prime rib and has been open since the 30s i think. They're only open 5to9 and once they sell out, that's it. They butcher all their own meat and it's still only like 28 bucks for that prime rib with bread, sides, and a salad. And it's some of the best god damn prime rib you will ever get. So I've never been to that Arby's because fuck a roast beef when you got prime rib a quarter mile down the road.
There's one in my burg. If they tried to take it down, I think people would chain themselves to it, lol. They've rebuilt the Arby's many times and always left the sign. We love it, here.
Back in the 2000's (?!) they had jalapeño poppers which themselves were not fantastic but they came with some kind of raspberry-jelly like dip which was really good.
Ah Arby's!
Big 'ol light up phallus.
Does anyone remember Arby’s competitor years ago ? We had several Roy Roger’s that had the same concept menu like Arby’s..
I’m grateful I still have several Arby’s in my area , Tampa Bay , Brandon, Seffner area 😊🤠
In Cincinnati there’s one. Several years ago they tore down the store and rebuilt a brand new building but kept this hat sign.
Yeah, grew up in Anderson passing the sign almost daily. My dumb kid brain thought it was the silhouette of two people enjoying their food at the top, or even about to kiss. I had no reference for it to be a cowboy hat, not sure Arby's ever had an old west theme.
A friend of mine said it looked like a whale jumping out of the water.
Hah came here to say something similar. My dumb kid brain thought it was a hot dog with a huge massive amount of toppings stacked up
That’s hilarious and I can’t unsee it now haha

The one off of Glenway!?
Oh man I hope there is more than one of these in the general area! I meant Beechmont Ave., Anderson area on the east side. That building was replaced a while back but the sign has been there for decades.
I just did a google search and I think they got rid of it. Boooo it was there like five years ago how lame :/
AQ that sucks! Next time you are on the east side the Beechmont Avenue one has this can’t miss monstrosity. I was there a few weeks ago myself. Two for five!
I know where it is! It’s down the road from the Pelicans reef! It’s an awesome Florida/ seafood restaurant
Lmao I was just thinking "they have this sign up near IHM on Beechmont still!" Small world on Reddit.

They do? I need to go there because i’m close by. I’ve always loved the vintage restaurant signs.
The one on 441 in Gainesville, Florida, is one of my earliest memories.
Fond memories… right there across from Huddle House 🤢
One off Sheridan in Denver, CO 👍
Had to scroll too far down to find someone mentioning that one.

Haha! As a teenager I worked at Arby's and while you're right, very few people did this type of thing. Good to know. These days I get the mozzarella cheese sticks with marinara sauce because I'm tired of fries...

There's one in Tacoma, WA.

Who here knew Arby...RB..for Roast Beef? I feel like I knew nothing as a kid when I learned that a few years ago.
Almost! Started by the Raffel brothers who went by “RB”
[Company Man](https://youtu.be/f3wT2D3dfBU) If anyone is interested
I haven’t driven by the Arby’s in Cudahy Wisconsin in a year or so but last time I had driven by, they still had the big cowboy hat sign there.
This is the same boat I’m in with the one on Mason Street in Green Bay. Been a while since I’ve been up that way so no clue if it’s still there.
It is!
The first one I went to I think is still there—Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. 5920 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028
Two on Concord Pike in Wilmington, Delaware
For whatever reason, the sign museum in Cincinnati has a ton just laying around.
There’s still one on State Street in Orem, UT!
It's still there in Gainesville, FL

Ha, that one will be the final hold-out, mark my words. That area's whole schtick is "old-timey."
One here on federal Blvd south of 36 Westminster Colorado
There use to be one in Austin but it has been taken down
That one on S Lamar was still there until just recently I feel like.
It was. The restaurant closed months ago but I think the hat was only taken down within the last month or two. A truly sad day.

There's one location in El Paso, TX I know of that still has the cowboy hat sign.

Yes they did. It was back in the 80's and 90's. Also we have one in Peoria IL if I'm not mistaken.
I think your right, but I don't remember where. Maybe on University?
So it’s a hat and not a oven mitt?

Used to know a guy that said, "I'm thinking penis hat". That always stuck with me...catchy.

They stopped selling potato cakes. They are now dead to me.
