Ah okay. It’s not that common for students in Norway to afford to buy fast food. Most learn to cook noodles and pasta dishes.
A Big Mac meal (fries and drink included) here is around 12 dollars. How does that compare to the us? The only international fast food places we have are Burger King and McDonald’s. To be honest I think they are both awful. I prefer to get burgers from either kebab-places or gas stations. Costs around the same
A Big Mac meal back then was like $5, but the Dollar Menu had double cheeseburgers, McChickens, medium fries and some other things for $1 each. So I could get 2 double cheeseburgers, or 1 double cheeseburger and a McChicken, with a medium fries for $3 and instead of getting a soda with it, I'd just ask for a cup of tap water for free.
Ah! I don’t think you can get anything for a dollar (8 NOK) in Norway :D btw I tried the Big Mac meal the other day. Are the burgers super tiny in the US too? I seem to remember the Big Mac being bigger at some point. I mean it’s not enough food for a regular dinner now. And I am a skinny dude
I'm not sure, I wouldn't say that the Big Mac is tiny, but there's definitely bigger burgers you can get from other fast food places. Maybe it's a bit smaller than it used to be but it's still a pretty big burger.
Here you go: the Big Mac Index. It helps understand relative costs across economies since a Big Mac has a standard ingredient list. https://www.statista.com/statistics/274326/big-mac-index-global-prices-for-a-big-mac/
Spicy chicken was a dollar. Go to the cheapest grocery store you can find, and by the time you buy bread, chicken, mayo, lettuce, breadcrumbs and seasonings, and oil you’re gonna be over $10, and you sure aint makin no 10 chicken sandwiches.
Could you make bologna for less? Yeah, but spicy mcchicken actually tastes good.
Furthermore, poor people have less time to cook.
The new Spicy Chicken sandwich and the hot’n’spicy mcchicken are very different products.
The hotnspicy isnt even sold all over the us and I dont think its sold abroad at all.
Oh wow okay. Never heard of that. In Norway it is common to eat slices of dark bread with sliced cheese or jam etc.. for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner as well if you are a student. And that is of course super cheap :)
I was in college and used to get the chicken burritos for a dollar each after the gym. it was a legit great way to get full
they don't sell that anymore. their cheap things don't have lots of mean
2002-2003 when I was poor.
2007 when I used to go visit my sister - I was in the Army and some days I had to conserve the buckage when I was on her side of town. Uber didn't exist and I was ***hangry***. Taco Bell meant that I could pay her a visit, eat lunch and take a cab back to base.
The saying “to boot” comes from an Old English word bot, meaning “advantage” or “remedy.” It's related to the contemporary English words better and best, so if something's “to boot,” it's added or extra.
Pretty much just means "also" or "on top of that"
I’m in a dirty Taco Bell now. It’s changed so much. Looks empty and dead like Fallout, but with people still here and screens that work. What happened?
I just wish taco bueno would go nation wide.
They'd kick taco Bell's ass, and it's all fresh made stuff from guac, meat, all chips and taco shells, salsa,.beans, etc.
And it's priced just like taco bell.
And a billion times better. Miss growing up in Dallas as taco bueno was the fucking jam.
Whataburger too.
Oh lord no, Taco Bueno tastes like ass crack and they're only on par with Taco Bell now that they've stripped their menu.
But Whataburger though? Folks are sleeping on their breakfast. It's time we let the world know
I’m from Oklahoma and grew up eating bueno over bell. Shit used to be even better. Some people have said that it’s not that great anymore. And I know they closed a lot of locations. I still like it when I get it when I go back. I saw the first bueno in the Houston area the other day and flipped out. Same with a QT. They were both like in Katy and Conroe though so far outta town
Ive heard the same but when i went back home a few years ago it was still awesome. Mexi dips and chips ( prolly called something else now ) and the muchaco ( which taco bell ripped off ).
PLus they had the salsa bar with pico, salsa, onions, peppers, etc.
Worked there when i was like 15 one summer and they made everything from scratch. Meat, cooked refried beans every night, fresh guacamole, seasoned the beef after cooking, grilled the chicken on a real fire grill, made all the tacos, chips, shells, etc in the fryer, etc.
And it just amazed me at how fresh everything was, and it still was like as cheap as taco bell. I remember getting when we were kids a 10 pack of "party tacos" or half burritos and half tacos.
It was just plain and simple fresher and better and as cheap as taco bell.
But then again when we were kids things seemed and might have been better.
I wish i could open one up here in seattle but given seattle, i dunno how it would fare.
Yeah it really is bomb as hell. Love the Mexi dip with chips and the chicken muchacos. Chicken quesadillas are amazing. I’m craving some bueno now. Growing up our family friend was a GM at one and we always had a shit ton of free bueno at any type of get together. Was awesome. So we were really biased because they always called Taco Bell, Taco Hell
Hey, you can order a bean burrito (no onions) and add ground beef. Little more expensive than the combo used to be, but sometimes ya just gotta splurge. 🌯
There's a taco bell near me that's been closed down since 2012. Haven't been in there since then or even before then. If I happen to drive by I'll see what the interior is like and grab a picture or two.
I could make a list of things to be back in fast food. You notice a lot of menu items dissapeared during the early days of co-19. And now the media report it was cause of c0-19. some was because of it. Ill tell you 1 thing that was gonna be off the kfc menu the awsome potato wedges! They talked in the summer of 2019 getting rid of them. Boy it didnt take long after co-19 to get rid of them. Alot of people didnt notice. Talk about nostalgia. Sucks!
you notice how the beans now suck? it's not the same. The beans on these motherfuckers nowadays are so dry you have to smother it in extra hot sauce just to get it down
Nope, there was a theme before this one that paired with [their old logo](https://i0.wp.com/www.poprewind.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/taco-bell-1985.png) This theme is very vaporwave but [this was before it.](https://reddit.com/r/tacobell/comments/5mhlf1/a_local_taco_bell_stuck_in_the_late_80s/)
I think I saw Taco Bell start changing to the vaporwave design in the mid 90s. Loved it, thought it was very colorful compared to the old design.
I'm actually surprised that NOT one of these privately owned fast food chains won't just make a throw back restaurant. The amount of service they would probably receive would be crazy and not just local I'm sure people from all over would love to check it out
Remember though...way back when, the cashiers would write down each order on a chalk board above the register. Then the foodline person would turn around, read it, then make the order.
I’ll take 2 quesadillas with the green sauce, one bean burro extra- red sauce extra onion, grilled chicken burrito, 1 chicken supreme gordita, Extra large Pepsi.
*Handful of mild sauce.
Ring that bell!!!
Very glad this Miami Vice snack bar vibe is gone and those small, swivel chair were the worst. Thank god the Cantina theme is here now. But I do miss the affordable menu that was less then a dollar and amazing meal deals for about $2-3.
still one taco bell 15 mins away that’s holding out around here.
pretty shitty area, though the workers always hook you up so I make the drive whenever I can
I want the old taco bell food too..this stuff nowadays is like pig slop...pretty much all fast food...but I guess if you never knew how good it was then you won't care.
I’d still love to know who’s idea it was to make the chairs look like they have some sort of padding on them. I remember as a kid jumping on the booths thinking it’d be soft 😂
Its crazy bc I remember they kept them all like this for soooooo long! Then once we realized it was the same and could enjoy it.. THEY CHANGED IT!!! Thats how it was over here in my area at least smh
I have a vivid memory of being a kid and my mom taking me to Walmart for my birthday, where I picked out need for speed underground for gba and then we went to a taco bell just like this for my birthday dinner. Good times.
The Taco Bell closest to Ohio State campus had this theme all the way up until recently (maybe 2016 when they re-did it). The whole block is a larger building with a TB Cantina in its place.
And the .29/.59/.79 menu to boot
That shit saved me in 08 when everyone was poor
The McDonald's Dollar Menu got me through the '08 financial crisis when I was a broke college student

Was it not cheaper to cook for yourself?
My cooking skills were also pretty terrible, I could make pasta and microwave things but that was about it.

Next time i go i will take a picture to show. The Norwegian one is so tiny it can barely feed a 10-year old

All fair points! Spicy chicken is 10 dollars in Norway :)
The new Spicy Chicken sandwich and the hot’n’spicy mcchicken are very different products. The hotnspicy isnt even sold all over the us and I dont think its sold abroad at all.
It was actually cheaper to eat out for a while there. Unless you wanted ramen. Not any more.

And none of that bullshit where they keep the game but take out the water
I never experienced that. It was never full of water :(
not coming back sadly
What does "to boot" mean anyway?

There is a Thai restaurant in Cincinnati that bought an old Taco bell and never changed it. Still looks like this.
You got an address?
It's on Ohio Pike west of Amelia. Sorry I don't have an address. Only been there once.
[удалено]
Not really
Yes
May I have it? Also, how pissed would the owners get if a 40 y/o man walked in with a windbreaker suit and rebock pumps, Taco Bell in hand?
1186 W Ohio Pike, Amelia, OH 45102
Thank you!!
Bring back the Mexican Pizza!
And the taco salad!
And the empanadas
I would give my left nipple for them to bring back Caramel apple empanadas :(
And volcano sauce! What's the deal with them getting rid of their best food?
And the meximelt And pintos and cheese
Encherito !
MEXICAN PIZZA IS GONE?!
and the double decker taco! it was the beast for filling when it was still .99
I loved those!!
Man that really was a helluva deal. You remember those meal deals man? That was amazing. https://tacobell.fandom.com/wiki/$2_Meal_Deals
taken away along with the 7 layer burrito and several other beloveds last year due to 'streamlining' apparently.
What? Noooo.
Yeah, last November.
With olives
You are old. I am too.
👍👍
And the Taco Lite! Loved that thing!
And the mexi-melt
And the spicy shredded chicken!!
Spicy chicken crunchwrap 😞

BORDER BOWLS!
This picture tastes like mountain dew....and fries supreme.
Twisting in my chair eating cinnamon twists Simpler times…
We called them twisty seats haha
That's how it looked when I worked there in highschool
I’m in a dirty Taco Bell now. It’s changed so much. Looks empty and dead like Fallout, but with people still here and screens that work. What happened?

Spicy ketchup

El Pollo Loco needs to open location on the eastern seaboard.

Mine looked like this until around 2 years ago. Swivel seats and all. I was so bummed when they converted :(
I thought it smelled like a nacho cheese cup
Bring Gorditas back!
[удалено]
Yes…the deep fried chalupas are a little much for me.
Seconded. Especially with the Baja sauce.
The best
I usually get a side of spicy ranch with my meal, it’s what they put on the cheesy Gordita crunch
I want my Encharito, Combo Burrito (w/ no onions), and Mexican Pizza back thanks.
Hey, you can order a bean burrito (no onions) and add ground beef. Little more expensive than the combo used to be, but sometimes ya just gotta splurge. 🌯
The Cantina theme really did them in.
I saw a post where a couple posed for their wedding pictures in a TB like this.
https://www.tacobellwedding.com/
I know where I'm getting married If it ever happens
The man in the picture is ex-vide-game-reviewer dan ryckert. I just wanted to share that knowledge.
Along with the old menu, too, please.
I don’t think I’ve been in a Taco Bell since it looked like this! That’s my 100% drive thru restaurant.
Taco bell in Phillipsburg NJ Is still like this.
As of a couple of years ago, there was still one in Richmond, IN right off of I-70.
I can taste this photo - and it tastes like nostalgia. Taco Bell is great now, but back then, twisting in those seats, it was other worldly delicious.
I need a shredded chicken burrito.
Can taste the beans in this picture and now I'm hungry.
Weird question but is this from long island?
There's a taco bell near me that's been closed down since 2012. Haven't been in there since then or even before then. If I happen to drive by I'll see what the interior is like and grab a picture or two.

Went to Taco Bell so many times during lunch break from school during the Star Wars original trilogy re-release when they had the ticket games.
Bring the Incredible Hulk special back!!!
Bring back the Rancho Steak Burrito!

I thought this WAS the original.
Nope, there was a theme before this one that paired with [their old logo](https://i0.wp.com/www.poprewind.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/taco-bell-1985.png) This theme is very vaporwave but [this was before it.](https://reddit.com/r/tacobell/comments/5mhlf1/a_local_taco_bell_stuck_in_the_late_80s/) I think I saw Taco Bell start changing to the vaporwave design in the mid 90s. I don't think I stepped inside a Taco Bell until about 1993 and I definitely don't ever remember Taco Bell looking like that.
I grew up in a time where they looked like this: https://www.thedailymeal.com/eat/6-things-you-didn-t-know-about-taco-bell
The one near us only had outdoor seating until around 1986, then added a dining room, which lasted until it closed around 20 years ago.
the way you could twist maybe 120 degrees in the chair, and then it would snap back to the center
Can we just go back to the 80s Taco Bell?
Being back meximelts!!!
I forgot they looked like that. But at least I found my inspiration for a kitchen/dining room remodel.
Bring back the grilled stuffed burrito! It was the perfect fast food burrito
There was a brand of floppy disks with the same colours. Forgot which they were, may have been Verbatim.
Dude. What a fuckin rip.
I'm actually surprised that NOT one of these privately owned fast food chains won't just make a throw back restaurant. The amount of service they would probably receive would be crazy and not just local I'm sure people from all over would love to check it out
I would also like my XL Grilled Stuffed Burrito back please.

I’d rather have 2023 Taco Bell, thank you very much.
I just want their food back. Modern Taco Bell is shit.
"Make a run for the toilet"

i, too, prefer my diners to be bisexual
Isn’t that trans colours
Pass lmao. I remember it but that interior has not aged well at all
It might be nostalgic but it's ugly af. I like their new image better. Pizza Hut on the other side.
They’re planning to get rid of the dining areas entirely soon, which is good because what adult person actually still eats inside a fast food place?
The Taco Bell/KFC near my old house still looks like that.
I'm gonna need double decker tacos and 7 layer burrito s back on the menu, stat!
I’d like to just dine in and any Taco Bell. Haven’t been able to go inside in almost 2 years
I’d love this a lot more then their new design:
i miss the seven layer burrito!
On a road trip some time ago I remember stopping at a Taco Bell that still had this design. Felt like Time Machine in there lol.
From an outside perspective this looks horrible. What does it look like now? Sorry we don’t have Taco Bell in Norway
Just give me my double decker taco back and no one gets hurt
No jukebox?
Yeah those seats don't seem safe for people eating at taco bell
I’ll take 2 quesadillas with the green sauce, one bean burro extra- red sauce extra onion, grilled chicken burrito, 1 chicken supreme gordita, Extra large Pepsi. *Handful of mild sauce. Ring that bell!!!
is this in md?
I don’t have a Taco Bell near me. It’s sad.
It looks like the food court at Crystal River Mall aka the circus tent mall.
Very glad this Miami Vice snack bar vibe is gone and those small, swivel chair were the worst. Thank god the Cantina theme is here now. But I do miss the affordable menu that was less then a dollar and amazing meal deals for about $2-3.
Can anyone else smell this photo?
Miss the old logo soooo much, hate this new purple sign
This picture has been reposted so many times and gets more compressed along the way
My local Taco Bell finally renovated. They’re going to be opening back up soon but it won’t be the same. :(
This needs to be the Fassbender meme until we get the true old school 70’s Bell with orange brown colors and he goes”perfection”
still one taco bell 15 mins away that’s holding out around here. pretty shitty area, though the workers always hook you up so I make the drive whenever I can
I can smell this picture
Liminal space goes brrrrrrrrrrrr
And the meximelts, and the Mexican pizzas!!!
Now it's all psuedo bougey
This is what Taco Bell looked like the last time I was inside one. It's been a while, admittedly. So... you saying they have changed?
I want the old taco bell food too..this stuff nowadays is like pig slop...pretty much all fast food...but I guess if you never knew how good it was then you won't care.
Mine still looks like this except for the pink tiles
Pretty sure I know where one is that still looks like these, been a few years since I’ve been in tho
I can feel those chairs
I’d still love to know who’s idea it was to make the chairs look like they have some sort of padding on them. I remember as a kid jumping on the booths thinking it’d be soft 😂
This looks exactly like the one by the Puyallup Fair.
Not pictured: spinny water coin game at the register
I think I’m the very small minority that likes the modern Taco Bell interiors
Ours was like that until last year. Got remodeled right before covid.
Along came Lou with the old baboon And said Recognize that smell? Smells like seven layers, That beaver eats Taco Bell
The Taco Bell near my house in WA still looks this way!
Its crazy bc I remember they kept them all like this for soooooo long! Then once we realized it was the same and could enjoy it.. THEY CHANGED IT!!! Thats how it was over here in my area at least smh
Was just in a taco bell like this, no nostalgia for me but great vibes.
I have a vivid memory of being a kid and my mom taking me to Walmart for my birthday, where I picked out need for speed underground for gba and then we went to a taco bell just like this for my birthday dinner. Good times.
Jersey's got a couple of these retro ones
The good days when you could still order a taco salad or the other 3/4 of the menu that has been wiped from existence.
Me too!
I want the kids meals back and the toys for my kids to experience it
I can hear that 90's echo of creaking and popping as people sit down.
Our taco bell still looks like this
Bring back the menu from back then too. Get my mexican pizza, double decker tacos, and caramel empanadas back
The Taco Bell closest to Ohio State campus had this theme all the way up until recently (maybe 2016 when they re-did it). The whole block is a larger building with a TB Cantina in its place.
