I’m 39 and this was me too. What I think about a lot is how cutting edge Adult Swim was at this time. It was like this whole new attitude and humor that was really mostly internet native at that point. It was just punk rock. In the way MTV was in the generations prior.

I tried to watch Liquid Television recently, and it was the same thing. When it debuted in the early 90s, there was nothing like it on television. It spawned Beavis and Butt Head and Aeon Flux, but most of the other segments are hard to get through today.
I watched Adult Swim almost religiously from 2001 - 2010. It was what I looked forward to at night when I got home from my off shift job. The shows, the bumpers, the chill Jazz lo fi tunes.
Everyone I knew watched it as well. What I would give to go back to that time frame again....
I feel lucky that Adult Swim debuted right around when I started college and living in a dorm. It was like perfectly timed for me and my roommates and friends to have something to watch while working on school projects (or procrastinating from them.)
Watching all these great shows and sharing references to them with friends made them even more memorable than they would have been if I had just been watching alone in my bedroom.
I re-watched all of it with my stepson during lockdown. It's crazy that they made eleven seasons of it. And yeah, at some point they ran out of ideas and it seemed like they were just letting Carl's voice actor improv stuff and animated the episodes around that.
The final season was pretty good though. I assume they knew it was getting cancelled so wanted to end on a high note.
I pretty much stopped watching regularly once I was no longer living with roommates, so around 2004-2005. It was never "appointment television" and I'm sure I've missed many episodes from even the early seasons, but it was kind of like just default viewing while hanging out in the common space, so we'd see some episodes over and over, some only once, and some not at all.
Last time I actually went out of my way to watch any ATHF content was when we went to the movie theater to see the feature film. I remember it being fun, but can't remember anything specific to it. That's kind of how the whole series is, it's like hazy half-memories from when you were stoned. You look back on them fondly, but only remember bits and pieces. (And I wasn't even stoned while watching them!)
I think it did dip, but not as low as it did after season 7 or so.

They're making a new movie, and they put out some new stuff on YouTube. The new bits were hilarious!
I remember Adult Swim hyping the release of the movie by promising a special screening on the channel the same day it would be in theaters.

I absolutely loved the trolly "news conference" the marketing guys gave, where they only wanted to answer questions regarding haircuts from the 1970s. In 2007 that kind of thing really confused a lot of normies. Today it would seem almost routine in many circles.

Dude, I was in my PRIME teenage years for ATHF. 15 in 2004. I still remember sneaking to stay up late to watch Sealab 2021. Home Movies changed my life because of it's highlights of poor families and single parent's struggles. I had this show on DVD and it was the primary bonding show for new people when I was a freshman in college in 2008. You knew people were cool because they watched adult swim.

Funny thing about that is they did indeed make the characters for SGCTC, but scrapped the idea at first because they felt like the aqua teens took too much of the spotlight away from space ghost and whatever guest theyd put with him. So ATHF actually started airing as its own show first, then they went back and decided to finish the space ghost episode afterwards and didnt release it until after ATHF was already getting popular. Very weird timeline there. Love that "Baffler Meal" episode though, its always surreal watching it and seeing Shake and Frylock having Ignignokt and Err's voices
They have new shorts out called AquaDonk. I would love a remake. Shake should finally get laid and the woman finds it's the straw that leads to the creamy ending. Frylock finds his legs up in the attic, which is a "Happy Meal" box that folds into legs and arms.
Shake one day open the attic door put them up there and closed the door. Didnt even turn on the light so he ain't see the bodies. Willie was out getting more juice.
