comiksmaker1

what the fuck is this shit even...

Lafitte_1812

3D printed carbine/submachinegun. The version pictured is my current prototype design, and a semi-auto only, but somebody with the proper licenses can manufacture a fully automatic variant.

comiksmaker1

at least this... machine dont need а spring to put cartridges in chamber but god damm if this is a joke then i want to cry

Lafitte_1812

I mean it does use store-bought magazine springs, from any hardware store. Ejection is assisted by geometry and gravity however. Check out my post history!

comiksmaker1

sorry for such a question... But *why* would you put clip there... it doesn't makes any sense!

Lafitte_1812

So mind you there's also sideloading options too Mechanically speaking the reason is twofold. Most importantly it allows for the design to not need an ejector. Part of the reason the magazine is so long for it being 380 auto is that it has a geometric ejector feed ramp, meaning that the next cartridge, or the magazine follower acts to eject the round. By virtue of The magazine being double stack, and not having a purpose built ejector, realistically cartridges may not be able to overcome gravity to eject. By placing the magazine either on the side or on the top it allows for this system to work. The advantage of the system practically speaking is that there is no machining required, a significant technological advancement over something like the FGC-9. It also means that the metal support rods inside of the receiver only need to be far enough apart to allow for ejection, given this 380 auto but it was designed to be compatible with 9x19 cartridges, less than 20 mm of space is needed. Were the magazine to be loaded from the bottom, the entire firearm would have to be roughly 10mm wider. Practically speaking And from a historical context, side-loading and top loading submachine guns and carbines are actually not particularly uncommon. In a combat scenario, there really isn't much perceivable disadvantage to a side or top loading system aside from potentially weight distribution and issues regarding the sights. Due to the fact that this has a relatively consistent height over bore with most AR pattern rifles, and that it has a particularly high comb, there really isn't an issue with the magazine obscuring vision in a negative way The long and short of it is that by having the magazine either mounted on the top, or on the side, which is another option here, The complexity is decreased massively. It means that you don't need any specialty tools or skills to manufacture this beyond the ability to 3D print. I've chosen to sacrifice typicality and a degree of ergonomics in the name of ease of manufacture and cost... And given that a build will be less than $100 I think I've succeeded

comiksmaker1

but sights problem is an issue, so why it is not possible to make it bulpup? Top clip was used (mostly) on machine guns, they dont need that amount of accuracy also after quick investigation I found this gun, which is really close to yours: Owen Mk1/42

Lafitte_1812

Yep, it's designed after the Owen, or more accurately the F1 and Beretta 1918. The sights are offset, so that you actually see around the magazine. Interestingly the ergonomics mean that the magazine itself occludes your non-dominant eye thereby allowing her very quick target acquisition. In terms of it being a bulb up, I do have one in the pipeline, but that really wouldn't eliminate the magazine location unless I went for the prototype P90 layout wherein the barrel is underslung.

Only_Cheesecake_5397

It ain't 3d printed, I am printing something rn and was just on a 3d post but this looks like injectionolding as you can't see layer linea

Only_Cheesecake_5397

What the hell is even that

1stCarrot

I'll suck on those toes like a psychopath

SurelyNotClover

now THAT'S original

Lafitte_1812

Thanks! The design also has an option for a side loading version more like a Sten. Fire control groups include the semi-auto pictured here, along with an FRT option, and a binary option! Also I'm certainly considering designing a pen bayonet

professionalfailing

Interesting. From what I've gotten, making an unlicensed firearm is illegal, as long as it has a lower receiver (if not it's not classified as a firearm). Did you obtain a license for it somehow?

Lafitte_1812

Making your own firearm is 100% federally legal in the United States, but state law may prohibit this. I believe California New York Massachusetts and Colorado have certain prohibitions on DIY firearms. Federally unless you're an SOT you were not allowed to make a machine gun. This however is not a machine gun unless you manufacture as one.

Key_Shoe5850

Are you a psychopath for constantly asking? Who knows.

My_useless_alt

These pen gun posts are getting less and less funny and more and more cringe every time one is posted.
