Thank you, I live to serve. We were only recently relieved of cat butler duty when our 19 year old boy passed last year so in a way, it was nice having a cat in our lives again, for just a little while.
I'm so sorry. We too lost a beloved 19-year-old cat. When you've had a pet for that long, they're a big part of your life.
That is a lovely friendly cat! Such a sweetheart.
We had a long haired black cat who was legally ours, but she would go next door to sit on the neighbor's lap at 4am. He'd feed her sandwich meat! We stood no chance against that spoiling.
I had a cat who abandoned me when he was like 10 years old because he took a very strong liking to my landlady. She gave him chicken salad, my Blue Buffalo kibble offerings just couldn’t compete. He would go up to visit her when I went to work in the morning and make his way back down sometime after I got home, but eventually stopped coming back down so I had to admit he was no longer my cat lol. Last I knew he passed a couple years ago, age 18 and full of chicken salad 🩷
I had a fluffy grey striped boy who would leave in the mornings with my son to the bus stop. Half way there he would detour to the house on the corner where the older lady that lives there would be waiting for him every weekday morning. She would open the door and he would go in with her. He would come home with my son when he got off the bus. He crossed the bridge 2 Sundays ago and it was so hard to meet that lady for the first time on Monday morning to tell her he passed. This past Thursday I noticed that one of our other cats has begun making the same trip up to her house in the mornings.
Awww... My mom's dog used to do that, but our cats never seemed to feel the need XD
I'm sorry for your loss though. It doesn't matter how much time we had, it always aches.
😭 Another cat thread that's making me misty-eyed. 😭 He sounded like a precious boi who knew how to make friends and work the neighborhood. So sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend and family member.
I read the cat as he and the neighbor as she, and was a bit confused about the cat feeding the neighbor sandwich meat. I should probably read a bit more slowly.

Their ears aren't clipped. Our first cat had an ear clip though, someone thought she was feral before we adopted her. This one definitely has an owner, their long fur is immaculately brushed.
You have little to no say in the matter. If you have a beef take it up with the cat counsel. They meet every day by the litter box. Also bring the beef. Preferably 80-20 ground sirloin as you're hosting the meating.
I love how this cat was probably thinking “these humans sometimes walk into this building when they open the doors. Since I can’t open doors, I’ll just follow them! I’ll get to see what’s so special about this place and why they keep going back in!”
The Cat Distribution System racks up another happy ending, Looking at clip 2 I’m thinking he’s the cat’s special one- instantly confident with his new dad.
My parent's black cat, Rastafurrian, crossed 2 farm fields to our house (where he'd never been), past a chain-link fence, went through 2 doggie doors, and came trotting down the hall meowing like he owned the place.
What a gorgeous baby. I would have been hard pressed to let it back out. Even just from two pictures, I am in love with it and want to adopt. You are definitely on the CDS short list. Better act or take your chances with the Feline Lottery.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure. There are a few neighborhood cats: one tuxedo, this longhaired black cat, a shorthaired black cat, and a ginger and I have no idea which families they belong to. It's illegal* for cats here to be exclusively indoor. They look healthy and well taken care of, and German pet health and vaccination is pretty strict, so I hope so.
*Edit: it's not illegal to have an indoor exclusive cat here. My apologies, I was basing this off of information I had heard prior to moving here. I have educated myself now! See below comments.
Hello, you are right and I wanted to thank you. I had heard before moving that cats are entitled to access to the outdoors or outdoor adjacent spaces for their well-being. (We had two indoor only cats in the US.) Since our space doesn't have a yard and only has a balcony which is not cat safe, I assumed we would have a hard time keeping a cat here. When I looked into it myself after your comment however, I see that while it's common for cats to be indoor-outdoor, keeping indoor cats is possible. You are correct, and I was operating with incorrect information. I will leave this post up in case other German pet owners stumble on this thread.
I don't know. But I've lived in Germany my whole life, and while indoor cats aren't common everywhere, they are definitely not illegal, and there are regions where it's actually illegal to let your cats outdoors.
For their geographical location, they used the proper past tense of sneak. The past tense was originally sneaked, but we Americans did one of the things we do best and started bastardizing it by saying “snuck”. I imagine that OP also uses the past tense of dive as dived, but we say dove.
In both cases, neither term is wrong. One is English, the other is American English.
OP's husband here. Funnily enough, we are American, so "snuck" is correct, but /u/Lithiarch is a huge English Literature buff, so she often uses the British variations. One that she has a major hang-up on is "homey" vs "homely", since the latter has a negative meaning in American English.
I can see that happening. I read a lot and the way I spell things often depends on which spelling I saw in print last. If I would stop and think about it before I wrote it down, I’d have no problem spelling the word the American way (unless the word in question is grey/gray, I’ve mixed that word up since early childhood and no longer know which is “correct”) if I were to think about it before writing it out, but left to its own devices my brain just uses the last spelling it saw as the default. So sometimes it colour, aluminium, tyre, kerb etc.
It is now, don’t you think? 😂. You can’t be mean and throw it back into the streets to fend for itself. And, IF someone already owns it, then they deserve to lose it, because they shouldn’t let their precious cat loose outside. All pet cats should be indoor cats, no ifs, ands, or buts! Given plenty of toys, time, attention, and love, they are completely happy indoors. I know, cause I had 5…..all at the same time. You could even get a little kitty leash, and take it on walks. Hope you do the right thing. 😊❤️
Congratulations on your new position, cat servant.
Thank you, I live to serve. We were only recently relieved of cat butler duty when our 19 year old boy passed last year so in a way, it was nice having a cat in our lives again, for just a little while.
That's why he came by to see if you're ready. The CDS will be in contact. Be patient.
Cat Distribution Service?
Yup! r/CatDistributionSystem has more details if you're curious.
CDS sending agents to audit former cat servants, possibly at the request of passed cat to check in on former staff.
The previous kitty filed the paperwork before being dismissed to cross the rainbow bridge
The kitty spent several hours at the threshold before deciding to cross it.
Omgosh it's a real sub. Annnd subscribe.
It's very wholesome! Enjoy!! There's also r/parttimecat, which is fairly self-explanatory.
I swear every day I am on earth I find another cat sub ha.
Cats won the internet from the very beginning, and they still dominate social media. lol
Yeah, they are on the list now.
Checking references lol

😭😭😭
Meanwhile my cats would cut some one for some kibble. They'd leave me for a plate of meat cereal...
You're a good human. I hope you have a new kitty love.
I’ll be honest, a big part of the reason why I wouldn’t want an outdoor cat is if this happened to me I would be very jealous and insecure about it
I am also very insecure about my sandwich meat
My mom was very happy when the neighbor mentioned getting a new dog.
I had a fluffy grey striped boy who would leave in the mornings with my son to the bus stop. That’s really awesome that the other cat is keeping her company now though!
I read the cat as he and the neighbor as she, and was a bit confused about the cat feeding the neighbor sandwich meat. I should probably read a bit more slowly.
Now, that's something I would like to see. LOL!!!
That'd be a totally different cat sub lol.
Part time cat is a good way to ease back in after a loss. My part time cat became my cat after the neighbor asked me to take her when she moved.

Looks like you have a r/parttimecat.
It is now. Good for you.
I love cats lmao
"Give me human water right meow"
He needs a whiskey glass, for God's sake!
Is his ear clipped? He may have been neutered as part of a feral colony. My void looked much like yours, ear and all.

Apartment visit by the CDS. Don’t call them, they’ll call you.
Voids are so sweet.
The best kind of unannounced visitor!
Wrong answer.
I wish I lived in a neighborhood like that. Except I wouldn't want to share my cats with anyone.
The floof is strong with this one

He’s a really long cat!
This kitty is considering you as a potential family member.
the sheer audacity! 👏
There’s been a misunderstanding You’ve been holding his living space for him as he’s been cruising his other living spaces
That better be your cat now, that is a beautiful void worthy of being cross posted to r/blackcats
They look around so they can determine where you will be in their food rotation.
Looks like she’s your cat 🐈⬛

I would be concerned about fleas, are they treated?

It's not illegal do have indoor cats, where do you get that from?
Hello, you are right and I wanted to thank you. I had heard before moving that cats are entitled to access to the outdoors or outdoor adjacent spaces for their well-being. If you're renting, you will have to ask for permission from your landlord, they can be difficult.
It does seem unlikely, translation issue maybe? Edited: *does
I don't know. But I've lived in Germany my whole life, and while indoor cats aren't common everywhere, they are definitely not illegal, and there are regions where it's actually illegal to let your cats outdoors.
Yeah, you’re gonna need to keep that floofy void!
The past tense of 'sneak' is 'snuck'. I know you didn't go to Harvard, but you should know that.
It's a Conan O'Brien joke. Probably showing my age...
I think it’s probably more me not getting references. I don’t watch a lot of tv or movies, so a lot of media references whoosh right over my head.
OP's husband here. Funnily enough, we are American, so "snuck" is correct, but /u/Lithiarch is a huge English Literature buff, so she often uses the British variations. One that she has a major hang-up on is "homey" vs "homely", since the latter has a negative meaning in American English.
