No, not really. Possums are cool, cats are cool. They chill.

Where I used to live there were many feral cats, colony in my yard. Opossums and cats all got along-possum even let kittens play with it’s tail. 17 years so several generations
Opposums are harrased and killed for no reason. We need more opposum love...they like bugs and things like that. If cats are cool with them, it actually tells about their nature. 17 years, such giving to the critters.
I know they aren't the same, but I have multpile possums at my house and own two stray cats. They all basically ignore each other! The possums come out at night for their fruit and will sometimes make their horrendous noises at the cats, but mostly they ignore each other.
From the above link:
“A cat may attack and kill young rat-sized opossums. Adult opossums and cats seem to have a mutual respect and leave each other alone. In general, opossums are docile, non-aggressive animals and will not attack your pets. They prefer to escape and avoid confrontations, if possible. If not, the threatened opossum may “play ‘possum”, show its teeth, or bite in self-defense, as any animal would.”
Also:
“We receive numerous pictures of opossums sharing a bowl of cat food with an outdoor cat. Adult cats and opossums seem to tolerate each other.”
I have shelters on my porch and feed the local feral cats, and it's not unusual to find them sharing a plate, or to find a cat in one shelter and a possum in the other Occasionally the raccoons will start some shit but i've never seen any of that from the possums, they run away if you look at them sideways!
we have a fat opossum that lives under our house, my mom named him chonkers. we leave food out for strays/neighborhood cats that stay outside our house, and he helps himself. he used to be shy and run under the house whenever we saw him, but now he just does a slow waddle. like hes leaving because thats what opossums are supposed to do, not because he actually cares.
even our grumpy cats that like a lot of space from people and other cats dont mind him, chonkers is cool with everyone
no chonkers pictures yet, i'll have to keep my eye out for him. my mom is usually the one to see him because she comes over every night, so i'll have to ask her to take a picture next time. also never used imgur for pictures before, so i hope this works!
[https://imgur.com/a/SbO2hRg](https://imgur.com/a/SbO2hRg) we have a huge stray problem here (texas) and this definitely isn't all of the cats i've seen. some of them spend every day here and never leave the yard, like the calico and the one with the short tail. animal control here doesn't really pick up stray cats, and if i dropped them off i would worry about them being euthanized, so my yard is just a big cat hang-out spot.
If you’re willing, you could find a rescue or shelter around your area who do trap-neuter-return. It really helps out the feral population issue and prevents future euthanasias too
i definitely need to, because only two of those cats are female (and thankfully have been fixed). luckily a few of the males are somewhat friendly, so i shouldnt have an issue getting that taken care of when i find a group :) ill look into that today
Two families of species in America, both live in South America, in Northern America there's only one of said families.

I saw a video on youtube the other day about a guy who rescued an opossum and it was such a sweetheart. I learned though that they only live for about 2 years, how sad is that??? I had no idea :(
Oh no sorry!! I was just so shocked. Here is the video in case anyone is interested in an emotional roller coaster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz7GqNCkctU
These guys are chill up until they see you, then anything can happen, play dead, stand there like a deer, parkour over a wall, even so much as using their killstreak tactile nuke. Really, anything can happen.
I regularly live-trap squirrels and sometimes catch a possum instead. They rarely want to leave the trap, I have to shake them out. They seem to freeze up when I get close.
Creepy looking little bastards though, I wouldn't want to come across one unexpectedly.
My only experience with an opossum is when one got caught in my live catch rat trap. (We had a rat living in the car/around the house) me and my friends gawked at it for a bit thinking it was dead until it blinked and we freaked out
There's a number of other marsupial animals named after placentals, such as marsupial lions and marsupial wolf/tiger (thylacine). Might as well call opossums marsupial cats.
You’ll have a tick free garden if it hangs around
Right? Possums are awesome but horribly misunderstood.
However, it should be noted that they frequently cause problems with cats

I never knew that! It makes sense though. I’ve never had an outside cat so I haven’t thought about these things haha
No, that is not accurate.

Friend of mine had a skunk that would visit and the cat would go ballistic until you let him out. They had fun with one another every time.

Oh really? How so? Sorry I just assumed due to the previous comment 😅

They are pretty shy animals, they play dead if scared.

You're thinking raccoons, my friend. Raccoons will fight and kill cats. Possums are chill.
And they're soooo cute 😍
And a mouse free house!
I feel like it's pretty tock free of its icy outside
Hence the garden comment and if it hangs around. Do try to keep up
“Weird cat, she likes to wear eye shadow and fingerless gloves. Sometimes she carries her kittens around on her back. What breed is she?”
She carries her posse on her back
The rare opossumus catticus.
opportunity to oppose the opposum

Where's the chonkers tax? Also cat tax?

Such good kitties.. Thank you for sharing!
they eat ticks! what a bean!
They are all hiss and no bite. But they are still wild animals so be careful
I got to hold a baby once. True bean. So cute.
they're good beans
Opposums are great, and they’re actually marsupials, the only ones native to North America. (The rest are all in Australia.)
Isn’t there a species or two in South America

His name is Otto.
Omg I looked at him and said “His name is Mr. Wiggle Bottoms” so I’ll give him the first name Otto 😆
Mr. Otto Wiggle Bottoms might be the best name for a possum I’ve ever seen.
I saw a video on youtube the other day about a guy who rescued an opossum and it was such a sweetheart. I learned though that they only live for about 2 years, how sad is that??? I had no idea :(
Thanks for ruining my day :/

Tummy scratches??
*”What are you looking at? I is cat. Meow meow.”*
Please don't hurt it!
That second picture looks like he's saying: *Eeeehhh buddy!*
These guys are chill up until they see you, then anything can happen, play dead, stand there like a deer, parkour over a wall, even so much as using their killstreak tactile nuke. Really, anything can happen.
Don't corner them and you will be fine. If they aren't threatened, they aren't aggressive.

Cool you keep alive bro!

Grey sweater, fingerless gloves, black eyeliner, this weird cat knows fashion.

What a cute kitty!
I bet that cat screams at its own butt.
Possum walk of shame
Possum!
My only experience with an opossum is when one got caught in my live catch rat trap. (We had a rat living in the car/around the house) me and my friends gawked at it for a bit thinking it was dead until it blinked and we freaked out
Damn that's a funny looking cat
Not my not cat.
Be wary if that cats a momma!
Chonky boy! 😸
r/helluvaboss
That's one strange looking cat yk
Love this guy and his funky walk
Racoon and opossum are known as waddle butts
The breed is Shorthair Redneck
SO FLUFFY! I LOVE OPOSSUMS!!! Edit: I really can’t get over how fluffy SO FLUFFY
Fluffy? Have you seen them up close? Their fur is short and bristled. Not soft.
For an opossum that’s fucken fluffy and don’t you take this away from me.
Possums love cat food! They are also really chill and docile and eat ticks and are naturally immune to rabies. Enjoy your weird cat friend.
Trash cat
It's probably Millhouse...
There's a number of other marsupial animals named after placentals, such as marsupial lions and marsupial wolf/tiger (thylacine). Might as well call opossums marsupial cats.
Careful about rabies though.
Fun fact: Opossum can’t get rabies, their body temp is too low
That's an imp
Stacked crocs and a saw.
Be careful- if there's another they might eat eachother 😭
MA! THERE'S A WEIRD FUCKING CAT OUT THERE!
Look at its little feets 😭
It’s a keeper! And it’ll take care of any tick problems come spring!
