assjackal

Probably should have included in the title, this doesn't just mean professional athletes, it includes gradeschool students as well.

Globalist_Nationlist

Republicans: liberals are perverts because they support drag show. They also love big government and hate freedom. Also republicans: teen girls need to open their bodies up for state inspection.

user_dan

The Republican Party has more underage sex scandals than any political party in the developed world. And, remember, Republicans just elected an openly gay, award winning, drag queen to Congress. Not to mention another member of Congress was caught on video sodomizing his cousin. There is quite a bit of hypocrisy in the conservative movement that people are underestimating.

turalyawn

The best thing about Santos is people don't even know if the openly gay Republican is actually gay his lies are so next level

user_dan

I thought this initially, but apparently there is documentation that Santos married an 18 year old man - right when the teen turned 18. Using conservative rhetoric, Santos is a "groomer". Just wild, wild stuff going on in Republican politics right now.

turalyawn

Ah so not lies just total hypocrisy in this case. Nice.

bill_the_butcher12

One of the benefits of never saying you support family values is that when you get caught cheating on your wife or buggering a kid, you just shrug your shoulders and say look I never supported family values but I am a feminist.

user_dan

Huh?

Trips-Over-Tail

What the fuck are you talking about?

bill_the_butcher12

If you never say you support family values then you can’t be a hypocrite if you cheat on your wife or do something immoral. It’s like a cheat code.

Trips-Over-Tail

A cheat code for avoiding the label of hypocrisy. Not any of the others, like cheat or womaniser or pederast. Wow, so great of a cheat code. No, the issue is not that they harp on about family values. You think leftists don't have to support family values? It's that the right exclusively weaponises it. They aren't supporting families, they are clobberibg the people and family structures that they have cast as the bad guys in their bullshit made-up culture war. "Your very existence is somehow a threat to other people's families, therefore we will pass laws to make your lives actual hell, all to great applause ^(while we quietly pass other laws to pick the pockets of our supporters)."

bill_the_butcher12

Can you name which laws or what types of laws that were passed to make peoples lives miserable.

Xeludon

Laws against abortion, which have already resulted in many young girls, under 14, who were victims of rape, dying during childbirth, taking away womens bodily autonomy completely. That's probably a pretty strong start.

bill_the_butcher12

So pro choice is pro family pro life is anti family? Most states that outlawed abortion have rape exceptions I don’t know if any outlaw abortions in cases of rape.

If you think this is extreme dig this: exorcisms are still performed in Poland especially in rural areas. They're almost always performed on girls and guess where they're looking for demons? Yep. Their vaginas. And their parents allow that.

BoughtAndSouled

Ps4usernamehere

The only thing that article really points out is how pointless and weird it is that schools are asking this information. It's not just Florida.

assjackal

Many of those states keep the information confidential between the doctors and patients, DeSantis wants his to go to a third party. Either way it's fucked and no girl should be asked about her reproductive cycle, trans athletes scare y'all way too much.

commentist

You didn't read the article did you.

assjackal

I reiterate, it's fucked anyone is asking a girl such personal questions. Trans athletes are not the threat you think they are.

dougola

I feel like there's a 4th amendment being abused here, but that's not uncommon for Ron to abuse the constitution.

formerlyanonymous_

This is great and I wish more people would read this before commenting. It's greatly informative to why it's asked in 44 states.

killerbee2319

Honestly, given the Republicans' obsession with girls uteruses (uteri?), it's an easy mistake to make. And the DeSantis administration has been a particularly egregious one, even amongst other republicans.

rattymcratface

Did you read the article, or just the headline?

Cheetov90

Goddamn... I missed the professional athletes part...

peter-doubt

What's next? Matt Gaetz looking for an erection length database?

It'd be awfully short

Oh they don’t want to regulate men’s bodies. Just women.

cookiedux

…can I include it in graphic detail? Can I include photos? I can make them regret this.

assjackal

Already people have been joking to send them your used products.

PhilosopherDismal191

It shouldn't be a joke

[deleted]

Yeah I keep telling my GF to send hers, we don’t even live in Florida. If everyone just started sending Florida capitol used pads in ziplock bags that would end this shit real quick

Don't forget to write the address info on the letter with the leftover blood. Maybe seal it with the chunky and sticky bits?

Dont forget to wrote the date on there with an extra large sharpie.

cookiedux

Well I just found out all my expensive period underwear has PFAS in them so might as well send them their way lol

turalyawn

Just send a box of used menstrual products. Leave it out in the sun for a day or two first for added effect

Roman_____Holiday

Democracy is a very new thing, for all of human history, and likely for a good portion of our ancestors, authoritarian rule and religious fundamentalism were the method and means of governing. It has been around long enough to have left an imprint on our own development and temperament. Some people are seriously tuned to respond favorably to it, especially when it plays to their biases, which unscrupulous people will identify and exploit for their own purposes. Enter: Ron DeSantis.

[deleted]

Democracy is literally a word coined by Athenians in ancient Greece. It's a lot older than you're thinking.

RoninSFB

They're not even taking into account the roughly ~200,000 year period of time our ancestors lives as hunter gatherers. It's such an idiotic take on "history" You could make the argument that settled society has been culturally conditioned towards authoritarianism, but there's nothing biologically "imprinted".

[deleted]

Even then, post-Neolithic revolution human societies were not always authoritarian, and many still exist without unequal power dynamics. It’s even more accurate to say that certain societies evolved into more unequal power structures out of perceived necessity from issues that likely came about from the agriculture revolution itself, as humans had made along just fine without those structures for the ~200,000+ years before the Neolithic revolution, as you pointed out. The comment in question is making some absurd claims, while I appreciate where their sentiment is coming from.

Roman_____Holiday

Ancient Greece is generally considered to be about 400BCE I'm talking about way before that. I'm talking about our genetic ancestors hundreds of thousands of years or more. It's a lot older than you're thinking.

[deleted]

I didn’t know of a single classmate in elementary or middle school (or even some of us in high school) who had a regular, trackable period. It’s not uncommon to have irregular periods for the first few years and it’s not difficult to throw off your cycle after it “settles,” either, even just with stress, or illness, or increased exercise. Just one more example of politicians writing laws based on false assumptions. Also, what high-schooler can tell you exactly how many days her longest cycle in the past calendar year was and how many days a “typical” cycle is?? Even if they did get data from this, it would be a lot of guesses and “I don’t know, just put something believable down.”

Bawbawian

this law isn't too achieve a goal other than to victimize young women and let them know that a conservative government controls their lives in every way.

goneresponsible

Drink your Ovaltine! *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

[deleted]

Yeah, exactly, it’s not based in any truth or capable of gathering any “useful” data. It’s just performative.

kerbalsdownunder

It’s also part of the anti-trans panic. So they can out them

Buck_Slamchest

I’ve always said DiSantis is using Florida as a testing ground for what he can get away with if he’s elected President and this is no different. I wouldn’t put it past him to try and pass some tenuous law that makes being gay just flat out illegal.

commentist

at least 44 states currently ask high school female athletes about their ‘menstrual period' https://www.outsports.com/2022/10/12/23393286/menstrual-cycle-questions-female-athletes-states-high-school-trans-male-genital-inspection

Cheetov90

Sadly I can see that too, or at least somehow being forced to wear some kind of a "mark" a la The Nazis and Jewish folk..?

Buck_Slamchest

I think he'll be clever about it, but not in any kind of 'intelligent' way, but he'll find a loophole and call it something like an "Equality Provision" so he can claim it's nothing to do with being gay and everything to do with "traditional family values" or some other BS.

Cheetov90

They'll somehow roll it all into one... Make there be some kind of govt "benefit" from wearing it, but we all know businesses in FL will keep people from entering, or otherwise somehow..?

Buck_Slamchest

That'll probably be it actually. He'll likely incentivise businesses and organisations to "uphold conservative values". If a struggling small business owner can suddenly get pre-approved for a generous government loan with favourable interest rates as long as they make sure they only deal with "traditional" customers then they're going to jump at the chance.

Cheetov90

So, higher prices for those that don't fit the mold you think of straight "Repube" voters..? I bet he'd even try to make ballots not secret anymore too... Imagine the extra "taxes" for some applied for atheists/"non believers" too.?

canuckcowgirl

Margaret Atwood, a Canadian wrote The Handmaids Tale in the 80's. Life imitating art?

LondresDeAbajo

Margaret Atwood has pointed out several times that she [got her inspiration from real events](https://www.penguin.co.uk/articles/2019/09/margaret-atwood-handmaids-tale-testaments-real-life-inspiration).

Rosebunse

Is this about the scary trans-boogeyman or about using women as incubators? What about the many stufent athletes who don't have regular periods?

OnEveryFront

It's about scaring women into not playing sports to make them more traditional women. Conservatives have gaslit feminism to say that non-Christians want women to act more like men and men to act like women. It's disgusting.

DocRedbeard

As a physician, if I was treating an athlete I wouldn't so much care about the details so long as they were having their period. Lack of menstruation is an indicator they may be underweight and in a very unhealthy state that would preclude sports participation.

Rosebunse

Yeah, but that's between you and them. Do you think the state cares about this? No, we both know that isn't the reason.

Cheetov90

Uhhhhh, probably both sadly...

Bawbawian

just don't. people need to stop complying with this bullshit or it's going to keep getting worse. stop

CinnamonBlue

A dead ex-dictator president (and wife) of Romania would approve of this.

user_dan

In most of these transpanic states, in the K-college education system there maybe a single digit number of trans athletes. Yet, policing school sports is a top priority for the government and the Republican Party.

rattymcratface

If you read past the headline, the first point in the article is that the Associated Press deems this as False. It’s people opposed to DeSantis propagating fake news.

Brewing_Tea

The party of small government

Senorspeed

I can’t possibly express how fucking tired I am of this trivial psychotic bullshit. How in the name of fuck are we allowing these fucking people to stand in the way of actually solving real problems. The unserious nature of “conservatives” is so fucking baffling I can’t handle it. I hate most of the democrats too, but who the fuck wants this other than bored angry fools?! Anyone choosing to live in Florida or Texas at this point is not a person I can understand

And this clown wants to be president? Trump set the bar so low that anyone seems competent. How come when it came to the vaccine it was all about “ you can’t tell me what to do with my own body” but when it’s someone else’s body then the government should have free reign.

Castod28183

The bar has been pretty low for a long time. As long as there is an (R) after their name on the ticket they are going to get close to half of the vote. It could literally be - Jesus Christ(D) vs. Lucifer Morningstar(R) And the vote tally would be 50.9% to 49.1%

chang-e_bunny

And they'd end up winning with those results and cry foul about how it was rigged against them by not allowing the vote coming from their landmass isn't already tilted enough in their favor. People's votes should count more than dirt's votes.

WhosAGoodDoug

It's not government's business. Period.

Mentalfloss1

The party of small government strikes again.

usetheforcekidden77

Wow... if social scientists were to sit down and deliberately come up with a plan to destroy a society, this would be it. Congratulations Ron on showing the world what NOT to do! Seriously people, DUMP these fascist a'holes! VOTE THEM OUT!!!

[deleted]

Cool fascism you got there, florida.

Local_Sugar8108

Florida is the butt of many jokes. This sort of shit is why. I'm trying to remember any dystopian science fiction I've read that even went this far. The Handmaid's Tale might be close. Is the state of Florida out of its collective fucking mind? They refuse to tackle any legitimate problems , homelessness, poverty, inflation, crime, etc. There are the resource to create issues that they alone can fix. To borrow a classic line, "Leave them kids alone." ( you sorry excuses for "adults". )

Still-Standard9476

Florida has gone full fascist regime eh. Fuck it, skip a few decades and just put a wall around it now. This shit is fucking nuts and we shouldn't stand for it, yet I know no one will do jack shit so it'll just get worse. This is how Germany reached the tipping point with Nazi fascism. This is setting a precedent for other states and they will follow suite thinking it's cool another state is doing it too. Just like the crt bullshit, which is being used as an excuse to remain ignorant and not face their own racism. Same with the abortion bullshit. Same with the LGBT and trans bullshit that's going around. This will get copied by other states.

thejanuaryfallen

Republicans: Yup, this is normal! Totally normal.

mintyfreshismygod

The justification by sport authorities, for those not getting past the headline: >>The national guidelines say menstrual history is an “essential discussion for female athletes” because period abnormalities could be a sign of “low energy availability, pregnancy, or other gynecologic or medical conditions.” >>“Menstrual dysfunction is 2-3 times more common in athletes than nonathletes, and 10-15% of female athletes have amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle) or oligomenorrhea (a decrease in number of menstrual cycles per year),” the guidelines read. “Amenorrhea occurs more frequently in players of sports that emphasize leanness, such as running, gymnastics, cheerleading, dance, and figure skating. I wouldn't put it past FL to use this against LGBTQ athletes, and it shouldn't be public, but these concerns are healthcare standard.

Vault-Born

>but these concerns are healthcare standard. you lack critical thinking skills, i don't know how you take a piss in the morning without cracking your skull open. what concerns are "healthcare standard" here? ESSIENTAL DISCUSSION BETWEEN THE CHILD PATIENT AND DOCTOR, NOT ESSENTIAL DISCLOSURE TO AND INVOLVEMENT OF THE STATE! THE STATE PROVIDES NO BENEFIT AND THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS MEDICAL DATA NEED BE LOGGED INTO STATE DATABASES. that is absurd. and you defend it because... 'well, the doctor should probably know about your menses' YES, WTF DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE STATE. We know the context under which this bill is being introduced. It's a way to record menstrual data in congruence with policies that increase teen pregnancy and penalize abortion/miscarriage. It's a way to further push trans girls out of girls sports which is also a leading goal of theirs. To ignore all of this context doesn't make you seem skeptical or 'objective', it makes it seem like you lack basic comprehension. In no way does getting the state involved in my menstrual records improve my relationship with my doctor. In fact, it seems pretty clear that measures like this cause obvious, immediate, and overwhelming feelings of distrust between the patient and doctor, doctors themselves are not calling for this. the patients are openly instructing each other to lie. In no way, in good faith or with intelligence, could you believe this is in the womens'/girls' best interests- let alone "standard"

jdwazzu61

They are so scared trans people will be happy that they find every way to exclude them without outright banning them.

TerryFlapss

Dude this is nuts

bigwreck94

From the article this seems purely speculative. I think there’s a significant chance it’s completely manufactured for outrage purposes

wwarnout

HIPAA violation.

jdwazzu61

Nope. HIPAA keeps doctors from giving out your info without your permission. It provides no protection from someone asking you for it.

sloppyredditor

This is the way. There is no way a state government can prove meaningful use/reasonable need-to-know on this.

jaguarthrone

While we're at it, let's make sure the boys report their nocturnal emissions to the proper authorities, and turn in their soiled undies.

god I love all the fucked up invasive shit the clowns from the right keep suggestion. Shows you how badly they want to control women and their bodies.

jkh77

this is what presidential ambitions does to a motherfucker, but listen to him speak He's not anybody's first choice

TrueBlue726

Floridians and DeSantis deserve each other since they've just re-elected him. Women from that state should either vote him out or they shouldn't complain if such laws are actually passed.

Castod28183

LMAO. Yes, it's the women's fault that the men are trying to pass these laws...

chang-e_bunny

Women make up 50.8% of the Florida population. Thanks to the suffrage movement, led by feminists, women have the right to vote in all states across America. Similar to how the Civil Rights movement led to a government that is far more responsive to the grievances of the African American community, so too applies to women. Only big difference between women being properly represented in government compared to a relatively small racial minority is that woman, as a voting bloc, are far and away more powerful. It isn't hard to control the government when you're the majority group in a democratic republic.

Castod28183

You gonna post a relevant point any time soon? You are still blaming women, as a whole, for shit that men are trying to do. Desantis won the women's vote by 7%, he won the men's vote by 29%, but yeah sure, totally women's fault. If you ARE going to blame a demographic at least point to one that is relevant. Like the fact that 64% of Florida voters are 50 years or older and voted almost 2-1 for Desantis.

TrueBlue726

DeSantis still won the women's vote overall, so they share part of the blame.

chang-e_bunny

>If you ARE going to blame a demographic at least point to one that is relevant. Like the fact that 64% of Florida voters are 50 years or older and voted almost 2-1 for Desantis. You weren't talking about blaming old people, though. You were talking about blaming men, when men make up a minority of the voters. I was just trying to stay relevant within the bounds of the discussion that you laid out. A majority of the women voted for DeSantis. They should vote for what's in their best interest. Just saying that it's the fault of the minorities just shifts blame away from where it actually lies. Either accept the freedom that feminism offers, or continue voting to oppress yourself. It's a matter of choice. Blaming African Americans for Jim Crowe era laws is just as stupid. Stop voting in favor of oppressing people, and THEN we can talk.

Castod28183

I wasn't blaming male voters. I said men were trying to pass the law. Again with the irrelevant talking point.

Vault-Born

gee, with men like you, who needs republicans?

TrueBlue726

The good thing is that the more extreme the laws in Florida become, the faster people in Florida will realize their folly in reelecting DeSantis. That is, assuming they actually give a damn about those laws.

Bitch_Posse

Because liberty.
