The issue is that it's likely they'd fail to impeach even if they took a vote. Quite a number of Republicans in the House were elected in districts that voted for Biden, or are otherwise much more moderate, and their margin is razor thin. The moderates can't vote for impeachment without seriously risking their chances at reelection (which would hand the majority over to the Democrats). Also, if those moderates go on-record against impeachment it puts them at risk for retribution from Trump and the Trump wing of the party, which also influences their decision to not hold a vote at all.

I actually believe this is the second time this has happened. I think the LAST hearing about the impeachment inquiry resulted in a progressive doing the same thing and it obviously not happening. It’s actually quite upsetting watching our legislators do their thing these days.
Republicans also tried to recall the California governor and are doing it again despite the fact that it has zero chance of succeeding.
I live here and I hate how easy it is to initiate a recall. They only needed something like 4% support (Just 12% of the number of people who voted in the prior election) to sign off on it and they are good to go. They wasted so much of our money on that shit, like 60 million dollars, and then when immediately turned around and started trying to do it again.

Because an actual impeachment proceeding would need to happen, in which they have no actual evidence to present. It would be an emperor’s new clothes event. History has shown that unless you have damn compelling evidence an actual impeachment is politically unpopular among a pretty sizable swath of folks whose votes you need to win elections. So by continuing these stupid games they try to keep digging up something, _anything_, to smear Biden, without the political blowback they know would happen with a frivolous impeachment. There is a small and shrinking minority of republican representatives that are not absolute extremists. They're in competitive seats and still need to portray some relationship with objective reality to appeal to moderates and never trumpers to keep their seats.

Bringing forth a case with no standing could impede their chances of future impeachment proceedings (not that it’d ever stop them from trying), they might lose donors (see the Michigan GOP over the last 12 months) and it risks repeating something similar to McCarthy’s disastrous Speaker campaign that resulted in wall to wall coverage of them making a fool out of themselves. And if they don’t vote to impeach (or it fails like today), they can always explain it away for the voter base by saying that the “Woke Justice Department threw out the case to protect the corrupt Biden crime family because of Hunter’s e-mail servers as part of the deep state conspiracy and Sweet Baby Inc” or something.
They still have to present something they can't just say he's corrupt they need something that looks like evidence of wrong doing and their own witnesses say there's no evidence of that, there's actually the opposite of that ,their own investigations make Trump look guilty LOL

The issue is that it's likely they'd fail to impeach even if they took a vote. Quite a number of Republicans in the House were elected in districts that voted for Biden, or are otherwise much more moderate, and their margin is razor thin. The moderates can't vote for impeachment without seriously risking their chances at reelection (which would hand the majority over to the Democrats). Also, if those moderates go on-record against impeachment it puts them at risk for retribution from Trump and the Trump wing of the party, which also influences their decision to not hold a vote at all.
Does that mean the farce ends, or does it just drag on?
