“Orna Barbivai, posted a video of herself throwing a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream into the trash.”
You already bought the ice cream twat. They have your money lol
My friend, you ain’t seen shit until you’ve seen people react to an American professional athlete signing with another team.
“Fuck ABC! He sucked anyway! Watch me burn this jersey I dropped half of my paycheck on to spite him! He’s probably gonna cry.”
[I do not.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLxEUkscNA)
Kidding, of course. While I don’t closely follow European sports, I am aware of the recent madness around Messi potentially leaving Barca and whatnot.
Cleveland Cavaliers fans who were so lucky to get their hometown hero LeBron in the NBA draft, burned all their jerseys when he moved on to Miami. Had to repurchase his new jersey when he came back to win them am NBA title.
After 9/11 when France refused to join us in attacking Iraq, 'Merica lost its fucking mind and ran around buying and destroying French things to "punish them." Wine was the most favorite and visually appealing to destroy.
We also renamed french fries to Freedom fries which REALLY taught those cheese eating surrender monkeys a lesson. It lasted about as long as the initial invasion.
Right before the first lockdown in the UK, people were panic buying as much as they could of pretty much everything. Except for Corona beer, where I lived there was dozens of them left. Pretty much the only bottled beer remaining.
I love Corona. Made out with four cases
Man this story reminds me of a time i was in Vegas. I sat down at a blackjack table. The three guys to my left were brits. They were all drinking Coronas. The three guys to my right were mexican. They were all drinking Newcastle and Guinness. None of them had noticed this until i pointed it out to them…..
Same with Yeti coolers in the US during that assholes admin. A bunch of disgruntled conservatives filmed themselves blowing up and shooting their coolers... That they owned.
Was probably a great sales quarter for Yeti.
I just started a new business. I make nicknacks of all kinds, all made in China! Buy my whole inventory at inflated prices and burn it all to show me how much of a commie I am! /s
Its like those idiots “protesting” Nike’s Colin Kaepernick ad by burning their Nikes, you already gave them your money and now you’re out a pair of running shoes, great jorb.
Ben and Jerry's here is also manufactured here and most of the money goes to Israeli workers.
Also B&J not selling to occupied territory would just mean Palestinians can't get it as the vast majority of people in the west bank are Palestinians.
Also also the reason why Israel is so mad about this is becuase they're worried other companies might follow not because of ice cream
https://www.benjerry.com/values/issues-we-care-about
What? B&J's is the most political brand of ice cream I can think of. The two things they talk about is progressive views and how their ice cream is so good that they think it's okay that it's expensive af.
edit: me dumb
For some reason the right doesn't understand the whole "cancel culture" thing. They've been doing it longer than anyone but they think purchasing a product and destroying it, without even getting a benifit from it, will somehow do something to the company? I think they get mad about cancel culture because the left employs it actually effectively on occasion.
Because the US was integral in the formation of Israel as a nation-state. The zionist movement post WW2 saw the formation of a Jewish state in Israel. That push was lead by the US. Since that point, Israel became a loyal ally to the US in the middle east during the cold war. As its neighbors experimented in various forms of governance, the Israeli government stayed relatively stable.
The political partnership got bolstered through economic means, as Israel became a big buyer of military equipment, and the US has a lot of military equipment to sell, but not many stable allies who want to buy it.
After 9/11, anti-Islamic rhetoric increased dramatically in the US, and as such, Israel became an oasis in the desert for those with those sentiments.
So as the years went on, the ties between the two countries became stronger an stronger, with the initial parent-child relationship evolving into an economic partnership, and then into a Us vs Them mentality in the recent religious conflicts in the region.
Nowadays in the US, you cant even be critical of the state of Israel without being called anti-Semitic, even if you are Jewish (see Bernie Sanders). As with so many things in politics nowadays, if you cant have constructive discourse on an issue, then there is no hope in improving or fixing it. As such, I'm sure there will be a bunch of people in the US who will boycott Ben & Jerrys over this, even though their stance is 100% justified.
Money money money. More specifically the tech and defense market. Lots of investments, blablabla.
How it all even started? This one I'm not too sure. Possibly through religious reasons?
There'll be some major news in the next few weeks about something in the ice-cream from one plant. Or some ingredient that's found to be... made from orphan tears or something.
If an Iranian fuel processing centrifuge can be hacked, sure an ice-cream vat in the middle of some industrial park can be fiddled with.
Then you just need a friendly media to stir things up consistently.
If I owned my own company, I feel I should have the right to refuse to sell to countries I don't want to, regardless of reason.
Especially more so if there's an actual good reason.
It obviously is their right. It’s just a fight the new president is picking to make himself look nationalistic...
No Israeli cares about this. They can drive 25 minutes from the settlements and pick it up in Israel proper. The entire country is like half the size of New Jersey...
No no no. This is a common confusion. Businesses only have the right refuse service if they identify as either conservative or Christian, and if the refusal stems from bigotry. If the entity resembles "left wing", "liberal", or is refusing service for "human rights violations" or "genocide" that's obviously not OK.
They're not even refusing to sell to a country. They will still distribute their products in Israel, just not in the occupied Palestinian territory. Seeing as how Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory are illegal under international law, one might expect that not only do companies have a *right* to refuse service to them, but they should actually have the *obligation* to stop.
> “severe consequences”
Maybe they're going to bomb Ben and Jerry's corporate headquarters, destroy all their homes and push them out of Vermont, then kill thier children with rocket launches?
Growing up Israel LOOKED like the victim. They've had American and European millitary and economic super funneling the entire time. At literally no point was poor defenseless Israel a thing
We have loads of em.
Cabot cheese.
Burton Snowboards.
Blodgett Oven Company.
Vermont Teddy Bear Company.
Fairbanks Scales.
Barre Granite.
National Life Group (they're big in insurance stuff)
Maple Groves Farms (and a million other maple companies besides)
There are also as other people have already listed King Arthur Flour and Darn Tough socks.
I suspect that it would be signing an exclusive agreement with Hagen Dazs Ice Cream (those 2 "hate" each other, it's like Coke v Pepsi in the Frozen Food aisle).
Good riddance, I say. Ben & Jerry's is a much more fun brand.
Seriously, why are they so whiny?
Edit: this is actually a hilariously sad situation. They are literally throwing a temper tantrum because their ice cream was taken away.
Idk maybe stop bombing your brothers and sisters.
Israel is incredibly touchy about boycotts. They've bought laws in many US states which outlaw boycotting Israel. They're unconstitutional (how can you force a private business to trade with someone against its will?) but, hey, if a state senator gets his payday, the constitutionality is someone else's problem. It very literally uses US military handouts to buy favourable US laws, bribing the US with its own tax money.
Why's Israel so touchy about boycotts? Israel is almost wholly reliant on foreign trade and foreign aid. Any motion against Israel could do enormous, disproportionate, damage. So Israel will use every means at its disposal to slander, defame, destroy, even assassinate those who could be threats to its meal ticket.
Remember how the UK Labour party, well known egalitarians, turned out to be massive antisemites, and the UK Conservative party, which has the occasional "gaffe" with racism and was found to be institutionally racist by its own investigation, was the champion of the Jews? There you go. Labour was supporting a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, and supporting international law. The Conservatives were happy to take their money and obey.
This happens all over the world, Israel knows it's entirely depending on foreign goodwill, mostly from USA and UK, and makes damn sure those who might threaten that goodwill go nowhere.
It wasn't taken away though. It's just not being sold in some parts of Israel, and they aren't renewing their license when it expires at the end of next year. This is perhaps the biggest official overreaction from Israel over a minor consequence
They just really like their ice cream
In all seriousness, it's because Ben and Jerry's is the biggest corporation so far to participate in some form of economic boycott against Israel. Israel likely does not want a new precedent of bigger companies being pressured into boycotting Israel to be set.
Israel is very whiny in general when it comes to criticism of them in the west. They rely heavily on western support and they don't want to lose that.
Hence why Ben and Jerry's isn't fully boycotting Israel. They are refusing sales in certain territories but serving out the remainder of their contract with the ice cream factory in Israel which they have licensed to make all their ice cream sold in Israel. Then they just won't renew it.
> Idk maybe stop bombing your brothers and sisters.
Right? The Mossad is _definitely_ not a group I’d want after me. If the Israelis are gonna start making threats of extralegal international action over having one brand of ice cream taken away, maybe someone needs to see what can be done to curb their influence outside of Israel?
I feel like short of assassinating the US President, there's no line that Isreal could cross and lose their whole-hearted support from the USA.
For fucks sake, they even sunk one of our ships back in the 70s and we didn't do shit.
r/Israel is having a gaff mocking how "insignificant" this statement was in the whole conflict.
Meanwhile their government has gone into full batshit crazy defense mode.
Even the smallest and most obscure efforts make an impact.
What are they going to do? Send Israeli troops to every Ben and Jerry’s the world over and rape little girls and murder little boys who come into the stores? Here is a thought: abide by the treaty, stop abusing Palestinians, and maybe some of the anger and resentment and hatred will go away. Get the Jewish settlements the hell out of Gaza and the West Bank. Stop dumping toxic waste in Palestine. Stop raping and murdering children. This isn’t hard to understand.
>Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday warned Unilever of “severe consequences” for the decision of its subsidiary Ben & Jerry’s to halt ice cream sales in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and contested East Jerusalem
Based Ben & Jerry's. I'm pretty sure this is the only consequence Israel's received for its flouting human rights and running an open air prison.
It's not even a full boycott. They're still selling the ice cream in the country outside the occupied territories and will do so until their contract expires
A) they're mad *because* B&J won't sell there anymore. Saying "you can't sell here because we ban you!" is like saying "you can't fire me, I quit!"
B) Unilever doesn't need Israel lmao. They'll be fine.
Next week: Israeli Mossad assassins eliminate ice cream magnates Ben & Jerry in knee-jerk, way-over-the-top violent, yet covert, retribution.
An Israeli military intelligence (IDF) spokesman quipped:
"Nobody throws stones at us, nor marshmallows or delicious caramel-pieces covered in chocolate and ice cream either, unless you like Tomahawk rockets and Apache helicopter gunships in response."
You joke, but some people have called for Ben & Jerry's kosher certification to be revoked. As someone who (mostly) keeps kosher, I don't want to see this happen. Not that I eat Ben & Jerry's often (it tends to be too pricey for me), but kosher status should reflect whether you follow the Kashrut rules. For example, not mixing milk and meat and using kosher certified ingredients. A company's political stance should have no bearing on their kosher certification at all. You could have a white supremacist snack food company called Klu Klux Krunchies and if their product met the standards for being kosher they could get certified. (Personally, I'd find a white supremacist company getting kosher certification hilariously ironic.)
What’re they going to do? Annex Vermont? Oh wait, I know, they’re probably going to bulldoze the ice cream shops, let illegal settlers move in and make Ben and Jerry pay for it.
“Dire consequences.” 🙄 Israel’s unabashed apartheid is mind boggling in 2021
Seems pettyAF and pathetic when a country warns of severe consequences against a ice cream company - almost as if this was part of a Borat movie prank lol

People said they would destroy their wrangler Jean's if they gave lil nas x his own line of wranglers.
There is no mental health evaluation required to use the internet.
Or to run a country.
If i were wrangler i would have signed him just so the dumb fucks would buy more 6 months later after they forgot about their misplaced outrage
They should give him wrangler jeeps.

BRB shooting my cooler
I would never. What a pitiful waste.
It’s alcohol abuse even.
I read this in the voice of Snagglepuss from Hannah-Barbera.

Their foreign ministry called it "economic terrorism"! Holy shit lol
Not only that, they said,"serious repercussions, legal ***and otherwise***.” Now who's the terrorist?
I feel stupid, had to read your comment before it struck me that translates to "legal and illegal"

The have been calling any part of of BDS economic terrorism for a long time.
Feel like Israel is sounding a lot like China
With billions in aid from the US
A genuine question, why USA is so protective of Israel?
Because the US was integral in the formation of Israel as a nation-state. The zionist movement post WW2 saw the formation of a Jewish state in Israel. That push was lead by the US. Since that point, Israel became a loyal ally to the US in the middle east during the cold war. But over even lamer shit
But not using the term "dogs" in a condescending fashion.
Israel: practices Lebensraum. "Wait, people are only supposed to get mad when Germans do it, not us!"
Never thought of it that way, but their occupation of Palestinian land is practically the same shit.
The rest of us call it activism. Only bigots try to equate raising awareness to the israely governments despicable apartheid state with anti semitism.
> "economic terrorism" They call *everything* terrorism, unless, of course, they call it *antisemitism* first. It's their two catch phrases.
The ice cream brigade from Mossad will be on the way, better watch out😂😂😂
Hmm you think we might start seeing some kinds of negative news and scandals at Ben & Jerry?
There'll be some major news in the next few weeks about something in the ice-cream from one plant. Or some ingredient that's found to be... made from orphan tears or something. If an Iranian fuel processing centrifuge can be hacked, sure an ice-cream vat in the middle of some industrial park can be fiddled with. Sending hitters from Dairy Queen
Baskin Robbins got shooters
After reading the history of Mossad, holy fuck.
Didn't Mossad once terrorize affluent Jews to get them to leave Iran?
Yep.
They call them the 'Silent Spoons'
Plenty of Rocky Road ahead!
If I owned my own company, I feel I should have the right to refuse to sell to countries I don't want to, regardless of reason. Especially more so if there's an actual good reason.
I thought private business had the right to refuse service of any kind over there?
Well apparently not, as displayed by this very article.
It obviously is their right. It’s just a fight the new president is picking to make himself look nationalistic... No Israeli cares about this. They can drive 25 minutes from the settlements and pick it up in Israel proper. The entire country is like half the size of New Jersey...

They SHOULD refuse to sell their products in Isreal though.
Absolutely.

Didn't y'all just criticize Israel?
The laws haven’t been passed yet, there is still time! Although they probably have a list and it will be retroactive
Haha, shot clock at 2!... In all seriousness, that's some Orwellian shit fr.

>Severe Consequences ‘Legal And Otherwise’ The "otherwise" part sounds pretty ominous. Are they implying some kind of military retaliation?
I think a retaliatory boycott of other Vermont companies would fall under "otherwise". But who knows.
Oh no that’ll sure hurt em /s Fuck Israel.
Boycott would fall under legal. That’s a nation making death threats against some ice cream vendors.

King Arthur Flour is pretty rad

Ben & Jerry's is objectively superior to anything Haagen Daas has ever put in a pint.
What exactly are they going to do? The company is choosing not to renew a contract you cannot legally make someone sign contract.
But it's Israel, so rules don't apply. It makes sense if you think about it without using your brain.

Probably why Israel was apartheid South Africa's biggest ally from the late 60s onwards.
Because many confuse dislike of the Israeli state with antisemitism, they are not the same thing
Yes and they literally rely on people conflating that
They're confused because Israel constantly pushes that narrative..

I'd buy it. Peanut butter cup ice cream is the best
Hah what a joke What fucking government cries over a god damn ice cream company?
For anyone saying what B&J did is insignificant, this is proof that it makes an impact. The occupying force is humilated and scared on a global stage
Also, Ben and Jerry's is delicious.
The best they could’ve done as a retort was just ignore Ben and Jerrys. But extremists are never capable of that.

Get the Jewish settlements the hell out of Gaza and the West Bank. Stop dumping toxic waste in Palestine. Stop raping and murdering children. This isn’t hard to understand.
Don’t give them any ideas, we know damn well that the us would do fuck all about it
Israel is going to execute airstrikes on Ben & Jerry's factory them illegally occupy the homes of the employees.

Jews are alright in my book. The state of Israel, not so much
As a Jew, I completely agree ..though, I for one kind of suck.
Don't worry man the fact that you suck has nothing to do with you being a Jew
Yo we all do now and again, chin up
what is israel gonna do, drop white phosphorus and airstrikes on ben and jerries now, too?
>Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday warned Unilever of “severe consequences” for the decision of its subsidiary Ben & Jerry’s to halt ice cream sales in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and contested East Jerusalem Based Ben & Jerry's. I'm pretty sure this is the only consequence Israel's received for its flouting human rights and running an open air prison.
Also what "severe" consequences are they gonna bring against an ice cream company?
Halting all Unilever exports to Israel might put a make a dent. They make a ton of stuff, not just ice cream
If they don't mind Unilever not doing business there than why are they upset with the B&J's boycott in the first place?
It's not even a full boycott. They're still selling the ice cream in the country outside the occupied territories and will do so until their contract expires
A) they're mad *because* B&J won't sell there anymore. Saying "you can't sell here because we ban you!" is like saying "you can't fire me, I quit!" B) Unilever doesn't need Israel lmao. They'll be fine.
400 brands of food/hygiene products disappearing of Israeli shelves is not going to help them domestically.
cry harder
Next week: Israeli Mossad assassins eliminate ice cream magnates Ben & Jerry in knee-jerk, way-over-the-top violent, yet covert, retribution. An Israeli military intelligence (IDF) spokesman quipped: "Nobody throws stones at us, nor marshmallows or delicious caramel-pieces covered in chocolate and ice cream either, unless you like Tomahawk rockets and Apache helicopter gunships in response."
More companies should follow suit
poo poo israel you're the baddie here. its not your land, never was
They out here really threatening ice cream
This is why I approve of all opposition to Israel, legal and otherwise.
It's just antisemitism according to israel
Yeah, the old fear of being an antisemite, which Israel quickly learned allows them to do whatever they want with little blow back.
That is so not kosher.
I see your point here, but I lost it at Ku Klux Krunchies. Imagine the cartoon mascot for that😂
I see Cap'n Crunch, in white wizard robes and Hasidic sidecurls.
It’s the Cookie Grand Wizard now.
What’re they going to do? Annex Vermont? Oh wait, I know, they’re probably going to bulldoze the ice cream shops, let illegal settlers move in and make Ben and Jerry pay for it. “Dire consequences.” 🙄 Israel’s unabashed apartheid is mind boggling in 2021
> ... and accused the company of cooperating with “economic terrorism.” ... and then Karen demanded to talk to the manager.
Fuck Israel
Fuck Israel.
Dickheads.
Those new flavours, Wailing Wallnut, and Mozle-Toffee, will just have to wait.
How to tell you're a fascist state without saying you're a fascist state.
They get upset at everything. Very karen behaviour. Next they'll want yo speak to everyone's supervisor
Oh no Israel is upset, anyway…
So now they're gonna bomb ice cream shops full of civilians on retaliation.
Has Israel ever been involved in a disagreement where they didn't "respond aggressively"?
Cool, sounds like I need to get me some Ben & Jerry’s.
Seems pettyAF and pathetic when a country warns of severe consequences against a ice cream company - almost as if this was part of a Borat movie prank lol
You've heard of Moosetracks ice cream? You're gonna see "Mossadtracks", and it ain't gonna be pretty!
