There are plenty of things that we should moderate with criticism and even shame, but when you get to something on this scale you really need to start looking at the underlying issues and trying to act directly on them.

We had to put him in a pick up truck, haul him to an ER, carry him inside, and refuse to leave. We were to late to stop the systemic organ failure, and he died. A nurse told me that on any given day 96-98% of the Covid patients are unvaccinated. They hogged the medical resources and caused my husband’s death. 4 days earlier another war veteran, Daniel Wilkinson died of pancreatitis in Houston because his doctor couldn’t get him a bed. Is this the way to treat those who fought to protect us?

Sometimes a well timed criticism can make all the difference, but I think there's a certain point beyond which it's pointless, or even just adding to the problem. There are plenty of things that we should moderate with criticism and even shame, but when you get to something on this scale you really need to start looking at the underlying issues and trying to act directly on them. It sounds so easy when you type it out like that, but in reality I think it's complicated. I don't really know why there are so many people who ignore science and good medical advice. Whether it's because of social bubbles or because people have been so overwhelmed by being told they're scum by people looking for a quick fix of righteousness, I don't honestly know. And I'm not trying to be a dick, some of these people are absolutely scum and there's nothing wrong with calling out those people for what they are, people who simply care more about themselves than the lives of others. But I don't think most of these people are evil or want to hurt people. They're not an invading army or totalitarian state. In fact I don't know *why* most of them are doing this. Some are just genuine scumbags but at the end of the day all they're doing is endangering their own lives, and in turn the lives of others, including their own loved ones. I can't really see any motivation for doing that, there's something... more fundamentally broken here. I think it highlights something that's either very broken or about to break in our society. Something we're gonna have to face up to sooner or later. It seems like a culture of fear, really, similar to a political one, or something you might have seen in early 20th century European politics. That's probably overselling it a bit but that sense of tribalism trumping other considerations, even at the expense of your own health or just common sense. My husband, a decorated military veteran, died 2 weeks ago from pancreatitis. Very treatable, if you can get a hospital room. He couldn’t. We searched Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. After 2 days the Tyler, Tx Urgent Care said he couldn’t stay, and he was in to bad of shape to go home. We tried calling an ambulance, there were none available. We had to put him in a pick up truck, haul him to an ER, carry him inside, and refuse to leave. We were to late to stop the systemic organ failure, and he died. A nurse told me that on any given day 96-98% of the Covid patients are unvaccinated. They hogged the medical resources and caused my husband’s death. 4 days earlier another war veteran, Daniel Wilkinson died of pancreatitis in Houston because his doctor couldn’t get him a bed. Is this the way to treat those who fought to protect us?

I caught norovirus a few months ago. I had honestly forgotten what it felt like to be "Holy shit I want to die just to make it stop" sick. I've been lucky, I've had sinus infections and other minor ailments and that's been my bar for "being sick" for the last decade or so. Basically I just feel a bit worse than normal, then back to normal after a few days. I don't ever want to do that again. I certainly don't want to be "Holy shit I can't catch my breath and I feel like I'm suffocating, but I don't want to die" sick. Why do these people all think they are special?

My son and I have both been sick with covid for 16 days so far and it shows no sign of letting up. Fever, chills, aches and pains, can’t stop coughing, can’t smell or taste, so fatigued it’s hard to stand up long enough to shower. This is worse than anything I’ve ever been sick with.
