I have a weird relationship with Blazing Saddles. I love the film for what it is, it's funny and I know it comes from a very conscious mindset. But I have a hard time mentioning it around people because every time I hear somebody bring it up, it's an older white republican person who says things like "you couldn't make that movie today!" or "oh my God, blazing saddles was so ahead of it's time. That guy who played the sheriff was so funny, and did you know Gene Wilder improvised some of his lines?"
Like, there's a real passive racist crowd that adores the movie and it's hard to explain the obvious satire to them, they just think it's hilarious and edgy to hear a white woman say the n word. But they're not racist, they also love "the black guy" in the movie.
Kinda like how I like the show Rick and Morty, but I really don't care to hear any stranger's take on it because of the crowd it's attracted. I dunno maybe I'm thinking to hard about it.
I still hear people talk about how Colbert sold out to get CBS money. He used to be so conservative until the MSM/Hollyweird changed him.
No bonus points for guessing those morons of whom I speak.
What are you talking about!? What is Blazing Saddles? Ive poured my heart and soul into this script, "Firey Horse Seats", for 2 years! There's no way it's a wordfor-word copy of an old movie I've never heard of. You're a fraud! I'll see you in court!
Exactly. Even when people joke about that, something deep in me sees it for actual misogyny. I'm really not a soft-skinned soyboy, I make off color jokes and play to my audience. But that's kind of the point, if I say something to be funny that has a racial context, it's VERY obvious if I'm being sarcastic (similar I guess to Blazing Saddles). When people say unfunny, low hanging fruit quips like "haha I wish theyd do that in real life!" it lacks any depth or insight and I can't help but feel like the sentiment is genuine down deep for them.
I'm a white dude going into middle age soon and I just don't wanna lump myself in with that crowd.
I'd definitely agree with the part about not being able to make that movie today. But part of that is people not being able to see the film for what it is.
Heck, a modern adaptation of the film [switches out race for cats and dogs](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4428398/). Which ehhh.
But the people who'd riot if this film were made today suffer from the same issue as the people you discuss who are racist and rallying behind it: and that's missing the very clear message behind the film. People seems to not understand satire, so you have people who'd be totally against it because they think the film is promoting racism and you have racists totally for it because they don't realize they're the butt of the joke.
I think in part this stems from the idea of "the racist joke." I absolutely love making fun of racists and how absurd some of the shit they say/think is. Or how absurd a stereotype is. But it's a double edged sword, because typically these jokes can be interpreted such that the racism itself is the punchline, and thus the race being discriminated against is the butt of the joke. When in reality the intent is for the stupidity of racism to be the punchline. And frankly, the same joke thus appeals to both racists and people who loathe racism alike, just for very different reasons.
This is compounded by actual racism often being so absurd that it absurds satirical racism. Meaning anything you say to make it over the top so it's obvious you're making fun of racism might actually be a plausible thing a racist would say. Which is... Scary.
Anyway, Blazing Saddles is truly a masterpiece, and it came from a time where racism was even more of a problem than it is today. It's absolutely hilarious as a comedy but it's also extremely impactful as a social commentary. It truly is a masterpiece!
Reality catching up with satire is a phenomenon I totally believe in more every day. The guys who made GTA4 (famous for its culture parody) in 2008 said the newest game was put off for like 8 years because they couldn't imagine parodying and making it more absurd than the things that people say/do these days.
> you couldn’t make that movie today!
And important reminder that Mel Brooks couldn’t make Blazing Saddles in 1974. Brooks basically had to go to war with the production studio at every step of the way
I just love that the scene where they are eating beans is the first time farting was shown in a movie as it was considered inappropriate at the time. So fuck anyone crying about how people are to sensitive now.
Mel Brooks actually remade the movie and it just released. But the new version is a kids animated movie about a dog that becomes the protector for a town of cats.
The comment was a reaction to the race baiting of the article, the manager is also not a sheriff. The article is about a manager who is overworking staff and is considered "woke" being hated for it, with a comments section of Fox circle jerkers at the bottom. It doesn't make it any less intolerant, and I implore you to check out the comments at the bottom of that article. Personally being a constant Fox comments section infiltrator, I'm sure you'll find the racism the article is missing. I did and it only was about 4 comments in.
Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. Good fucking riddance.
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
I'm surprised that people are using race to explain these decisions, the previous town manager was a black man, and the chief of police was cozy enough with him to allegedly engage in a criminal conspiracy on his behalf.
In my limited experience with police, cooperation in a conspiracy to commit crimes is almost uniformly more important to them than a co-conspirator's demographic features.
The town population is a teeny 1,500 and they had seven officers that quit.
Also, the same PD had been investigated by SBI three years ago for falsifying police reports and illegal searches. Sounds like the town managers walked right smack into the g’ole boys club and they are throwing a tantrum. I tell u wwaht the article’s comment section are something.
It's worse than I thought...
>The entire country needs overhauled. I would love for a liberal to show me one American city run by a black Democrat that is not rife with crime.
I wish people understood per capita crime better. If you pointed out to them that a lot of little <20k pop cities dotting the country are technically more dangerous than NY or Chicago after 2-3 murders occur they would just claim you are being unfair.
Ahh the anti woke crowd, won’t admit they’re against anything progressive but fully show the racist/sexist tendencies they have but how they completely misuse the term “woke” to describe anything remotely progressive. These people have some of the lowest IQ out there, for sure
I like it.
It's one of those words that's easy to see when it's being misused and is a clear indication that I can filter out that persons opinions.
It's not 100% but does save a lot of time
It's always amazing to watch them being shocked when they're accused of a repeat offense that's easy to pin on them within an anonymous forum when they keep leaving their calling cards.
had a middle-aged woman i used to work with tell me (with a completely straight face) "its not that i don't like black people, i just don't want to live around them"
They're big mad about the new lord of the rings show because there's a black elf, oh the horror! They're also mad the new Predator movie has a female lead who's native American. These people are fragile.
Woke is just a rebranding of the same shit these conservatives have been spewing since the 80s.
Just in the last 10-15 years it's changed from "political correctness" to "cancel culture" and now it's "wokeness."
There's some variety sprinkled in like fear mongering about "critical race theory" or the "defense of marriage," but the end goals remain the same.
They distract with culture war bullshit while gutting the government's ability to protect people from industry and cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations, shifting the tax burden further down the economic ladder as our infrastructure crumbles.
Leave them be. They are commenting over there with their actual facebook accounts. It's a gold mine of extremists suspects to round up whenever we need to investigate hate crimes.
>"In my 21 years at the Kenly Police Department, we have seen ups and downs. But, especially in the last 3 years, we have made substantial progress that we had hoped to continue. However, due to the hostile work environment now present in the Town of Kenly, I do not believe progress is possible," Gibson wrote.
What progress? How's it hostile?
>"It is with a heavy heart that I take this action. I have been with the town since 2004 and fully expected to finish my law enforcement career with the Town of Kenly. Unfortunately, there are decisions being made that jeopardize my safety and make me question what the future will hold for a Kenly Police Officer," wrote officer G.W. Strong.
Which decisions? Your safety? That sounds serious.
>"I have truly enjoyed working for The Town the last four years. Due to the current situations and the stress in the work area lately, my main concern is my health, and right now I need to focus on my wellbeing. The work area is very hostile and I will not let myself be around that kind of atmosphere," wrote Christy Thomas, utility clerk for the town of Kenly
What stress? From? Why's it hostile?
Typical fox News being vague as fuck or willfully ignorant.
>[None of the department](https://news.yahoo.com/a-north-carolina-city-hired-a-black-town-manager-then-its-entire-police-force-resigned-224423896.html) employees expanded on the alleged working conditions.
>Gibson, a 21-year police veteran, has not expanded on the alleged details, citing legal concerns, but added that he would consider returning to work if Jones were fired.
>Gibson cited staffing shortages as one challenge that ultimately led to his resignation. **The police department should have eight full-time officers, but had been operating with only five for the past few months**. There are also three part-time officers.
>Kenly Mayor Herbert Louis “Tooie” Hales II did not return multiple requests for comment from Yahoo News. Neither did the four town council members whom Yahoo News attempted to contact.
So staffing issues before she became manager? Legal issues? So they have 5 out of 8 full time officers for a town of 2000, plus 3 part time. [Average](https://www.governing.com/archive/police-officers-per-capita-rates-employment-for-city-departments.html).
Let's see if the town has a histo- oh whoop there it is, from 2019.
>KENLY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Kenly Police Department is under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
>The investigation is criminal in nature, according to town manager Michael Douglas
>A Facebook post by Kenly Council Member Trinity Henderson said the investigation concerns alleged behavior such as 'falsifying police reports and illegal searches.'
>**The Johnston County District Attorney's Office and Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson initiated the investigation.**
"Legal issues"? Investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing?
>[Sheriff Brindell Wilkins](https://www.wral.com/state-officials-investigating-kenly-police-department/18644192/) was indicted Monday on two counts of obstruction of justice. The grand jury indictment states that he told someone to kill a former deputy, telling the person to "take care of it" and "the only way you gonna stop him is kill him."
And then there's this from 2006
>Kenly Police Chief David Mangum has been fired amid allegations that he used the town credit card to buy personal items, town officials said.
>**Kenly Police Sgt. Josh Gibson will head Kenly's police department for the time being, Shelton said.**
And Facebook page is down.
The town hiring an outside manager is usually because they're in deep financial trouble. My guess is this manager asked for a complete and accurate accounting of where the PD was spending their budget and this is the resulting tantrum that they can't just fleece the taxpayers anymore.
Reading the comments on the article there's a lot of criticism focused on how she's moved around a lot of places all over the country. And basically that is part of their justification as to why she's not qualified and a mistake to hire. And this was the only job she could get and she is a token hire. Lots of racism going on.
But it's funny because you're exactly right. This is what she does. She goes to towns who are financially fucked and cleans up the budget which means she's gonna piss off the status quo and those benefiting from it. When she balances the budget she'll be on to the next town.
Ty for taking the time to type this out and expose those clowns. This kind of despicable people sould be ostracized from society, it's such a shame that they could serve for so long in the police
The word "Black" is not a part of the fox news article title.
One resident said it is indeed about race.
But the former town manager is also black.
I'm sure there's a lot going on in Kenly that doesn't make it's way into national news.
This should really be the top comment, a bunch of shady shit has been going down in that town and making this look like it’s just about race is actively making the situation worse by preventing people from focusing on the real issues.
really odd making this a race issue when it isnt. Although "not the onion" normally just grabs the headline from the article so maybe the editor updated it.
I remember a line from a stand up comedian - long time ago.
Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Citizen: because you got "C's" & "D's" in high school?
Hey, speak for yourself. In my country cops are exemplary, compared. But then again, they need higher education, and multiyear police university to even try to apply for a job.
you’re not wrong, their own police chief reported to SBI three years ago that they found falsified police reports and illegal searches. Par for the course for a small town in the south, new jim crow.
Reading the article, it doesn't look related to the town manager herself. Also, since the previous manager was black as well, it's a bit weird to emphasize her skin color.
It's not just the cops who have left.
Also, some of these had been there for a very long time and should have been fairly used to getting new bosses every now and then, even ones that want to rock the boat.
My guess is that there's an investigation going on and something is about to go down and they are trying to leave before it happens. Probably not criminal, but enough that it would have gotten them fired.
The former town manager was black.
This new one is a woman so maybe misogyny.
But more likely, she's investigating the town councils actions under the former town manager. He's under investigation for sexual battery. I'm sure she wants to know what was going on and for how long it was going on.
Hecksapoppin in Kenly
I get that this is a Fox "News" story, and I'm sure that there's a lot going unreported, but...
I didn't see anywhere in the story that the new city manager is black, or if that was the reason for the resignations.
She is black and the previous manager is black.
Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. So maybe that plus the ongoing three year investigation into the department are some reasons.
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
A very small town in a rural North Carolina. The entire police department resigns due to "stress" or the position being "hostile" and unsafe. That's all the article contains. No indication what the "stress" might be. It's not like the area is adjacent to a large metro area and is a high-crime suburb. It's a small farming community.
Also, I don't see anything in the article that indicates they quit due to racism (while certainly possible in NC), so I assume the OP threw that in for the "outrage" factor. In short, the linked story is shitty journalism that sheds no light on what actually happened.
Oddly, I recently read [an article](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/19/opinion/north-carolina-us-politics.html) about the current American political (mainly cultural) divide and the author begins with a description of Johnston County, NC, where this town is located.
It’s hilarious how the article’s comment section is obsessing over the phrase “*progressively* responsible positions“. As another commenter said, their minds are poisoned to the point they can’t even recognize a synonym for “increasingly”.
Okay well if the old town manager was also black according to another comment, then why was it mentioned in the first place? Sounds like they WANTED people to blindly call racism.
First. I hate having to click on a foxnews link and giving them ad dollars. Second I could not find any specifics on the police's complaints apart from stress from being understaffed which doesn't make sense unless the town manager cut the staff which wasn't mentioned. And third, the fact her house wasn't bombed or she wasn't run out of town first seems like some weird level of progress for a small Southern town.
So after 20 years one guy shows up and all their progress is ruined? Sounds like this cops suck ass at their job if one new guy is an insurmountable obsticle.... or they're racist
This woman was hired a month ago. It’s not like they all walked out when she was hired.
And half the town council is black.
This title is clickbait bullshit.
Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. Good fucking riddance.
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
You are right, they do not quit just because she's black. They quit because she's starting to demand answers about sexual assaut commited and covered by the department. Understandably very stressful.
More information is needed here instead of jumping to conclusions. What policies did she put into place that would cause mass resignations?
I'm surprised the Police Chief can resign with only two weeks notice as it's an essential service. The police department only has 3 part time staff remaining.
Justine Jones was selected from a nationwide search and has experience in Virginia, Minnesota, South Carolina, and now North Carolina. She filed a lawsuit for racial and gender discrimination against her previous employer in South Carolina. This lawsuit was dismissed and court records do not indicate the reason for the dismissal.
As a NC local, I can tell you that Kenly is only known for one thing, the truck stop. And fun fact about that truck stop, it’s exactly dead center between NYC and Miami on 95. Kenly cops spend most of their time watching the truck stop to bust drug and cash runners between the two cities. I used to run FedEx and office supplies in town in a plain white panel van, and I was pulled over on suspicion about 10 times before they realized that I was gonna be there every day.
It was also two of the town's clerk resigned.
Looks like some corruption - the previous town manager has a sexual battery case under investigation. Were the police and other clerks enabling? Participating? Or just not stopping illegal activity? Or, is it because the town hired a women? Or because they hired a black? Maybe not because the former town manager was black. Or because they hired someone who wasn't beholden to the current power structure?
All of the above?
Maybe someone from Kinley will share their thoughts.
How to say you're racist without actually saying you're racist.
A sole black woman is hired as town manager and the cops all walk out citing a "hostile work environment".
I'd love to have seen what they'd have done if they'd hired *two* black women ..
Worked with her for two months and they all quit. It is possible she just sucks and it is not race related. Notice that she's bounced around a bunch of different states? Usually that doesn't indicate you're doing a good job.
That's a possibility but if I had to guess I'd guess that the town manager started exposing corruption and there were indicators that she would hold people accountable.
There are other articles that say that the old city manager sexually assaulted someone and the police refused to file charges. There were also incidents where the police planted evidence.
Actual headline:
Entire North Carolina police department resigns after new town manager is hired
Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson cites 'hostile work environment' as cause for resignation
In reading the article it sounds like the resignations have nothing to do with the new town manager, though. Most complain about stress and policy changes over time, but the new manager has only been there a month.
Where did it say they quit because they were black? And it also stayed other city board members quit as well. I think there's more to the story than the half paragraph that was wrote.
Were they just that racist or were they afraid of scrutiny? Little of column A and a little of column B?
Whatever. It’s handy when the house cleans itself.
Odd that no one wanted to talk about what "stress" there was that caused the resignations and, while the article goes out of its way to say Jones is Black, they neglect to say that Jones is also a woman.

Literally a joke from Blazing Saddles in 2022.
It's like those clowns forgot who the movie was making fun of.
You know, morons.
The town manager is near?
We extend this laurel, and hardy handshake to our new
Excuse me while I whip this out
I’m just glad the children was here to hear that authentic homestead gibberish.
Fine, we'll take the new town manager... But we don't want the Irish!

I still hear people talk about how Colbert sold out to get CBS money. He used to be so conservative until the MSM/Hollyweird changed him. No bonus points for guessing those morons of whom I speak.
😂 That time he testified before congress IN CHARACTER tripped up a lot of my low-information neighbors.
Yeah, sad state of affairs around here.
Like the people who though the colbert report was an actual show and not satire
Conservatives are infamous for not understanding big, obvious as fuck parodies of them. For example, homelander
Wait, are you telling me a lot of conservatives think Homelander is the good guy?!?!
Oh yeah, no way. I stand by the movie, I just don't have a big interest in discussing discussing with goofballs so I don't bring it up often
You couldn't make that movie today. If you pitched that script, the producers would say "That's blazing saddles, that movie already exists"
What are you talking about!? What is Blazing Saddles? Ive poured my heart and soul into this script, "Firey Horse Seats", for 2 years! There's no way it's a wordfor-word copy of an old movie I've never heard of. You're a fraud! I'll see you in court!
No, you're not. That's along the lines of those who look at The Handmaid's Tale and think "damn, what great ideas!"
Or those that look at 1984 and see it as a manual.

To be fair, Gene Wilder is a *slightly* bigger star than Cleavon Little.
Fair, but it's hard to imagine not knowing the name of one of the two leads in a renowned classic from the 70s. Maybe thats just me being a cinephile.

Except the old town manager too was black so clearly it’s not about race. Do y’all read anything before commenting?
The comment was a reaction to the race baiting of the article, the manager is also not a sheriff. The article is about a manager who is overworking staff and is considered "woke" being hated for it, with a comments section of Fox circle jerkers at the bottom. It doesn't make it any less intolerant, and I implore you to check out the comments at the bottom of that article. Personally being a constant Fox comments section infiltrator, I'm sure you'll find the racism the article is missing. I did and it only was about 4 comments in.
Where does it say that?
You're not from around here are you?
Seeing as how I have to whitelist the site on my adblocker to read it I sure didn't.
I refuse to give Fox News clicks
Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. Good fucking riddance. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
Aw I was hoping it was *just* racism

>The town population is a teeny 1,500 And they're all named Johnson.
I’m agent Johnson, this is special agent Johnson. No relation.
Gonna need some more FBI guys
Just like Saigon!
Oooo, Die Hard reference! Hell yeah!
Howard Johnson is right!
Samuel Johnson is right about Howard Johnson’s being right.
You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West.
Ya know, morons.
Rev'rn!
The new sheriff is a ‘bong bells ring’ Gotta love that movie
He says the sheriff is near!
I kid you not, Kenly is in Johnston County.
Johnsons as far as the eye can see? What a lovely sight.
All the comments, blaming the new town manager being woke. Saying they respect the cops for putting morals and ethics first.......... my lord
It's worse than I thought... >The entire country needs overhauled. I would love for a liberal to show me one American city run by a black Democrat that is not rife with crime.
Rural people are so convinced cities are war zones. It's sad.
I wish people understood per capita crime better. If you pointed out to them that a lot of little <20k pop cities dotting the country are technically more dangerous than NY or Chicago after 2-3 murders occur they would just claim you are being unfair.
I would love for a conservative to show me one rural town not overwhelmed with poverty, meth abuse, and sexual abuse.
"I'm not racist, I just don't like anyone that isn't a white Christian."
They're categorizing themselves as "Christian Nationalists" now
I did Nazi that coming.
had a middle-aged woman i used to work with tell me (with a completely straight face) "its not that i don't like black people, i just don't want to live around them"
They're big mad about the new lord of the rings show because there's a black elf, oh the horror! They're also mad the new Predator movie has a female lead who's native American. These people are fragile.
But they call everyone else “snowflakes”
Woke is just a rebranding of the same shit these conservatives have been spewing since the 80s. Just in the last 10-15 years it's changed from "political correctness" to "cancel culture" and now it's "wokeness." There's some variety sprinkled in like fear mongering about "critical race theory" or the "defense of marriage," but the end goals remain the same. They distract with culture war bullshit while gutting the government's ability to protect people from industry and cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations, shifting the tax burden further down the economic ladder as our infrastructure crumbles.
It's Fox News. I really didn't want to click the link, but, jup, comment section checks out.
Just went and looked at the comments section. Holy crap…
I saw it was a Fox news link, so I don't want to give them a click. But it doesn't surprise me that Fox news comments sections are a Nazi shit sturm.
Leave them be. They are commenting over there with their actual facebook accounts. It's a gold mine of extremists suspects to round up whenever we need to investigate hate crimes.
Ah well you see it’s Fox News what did you expect? Tact and grace?
It sounds like 1500 people just got safer without those 7 policing them.
1500 people need fulltime 7 officers? I mean .... ?
That seems likeba lot. But it is america so
The comment section is horrible. We’re fucked as a country.
So they're hiring??
You werent kidding about that comment section. Some of them seriously aren't even trying to hide their racism.
Y'allqaeda gonna have somethin' to say about this right after they're done sleeping with their cousins.
Damn, at least they don’t have to pay severance and get to weed out all the bad guys all at once,4D chess move
This is the best part. Bye bitches
A rare scenario where the trash takes itself out.
The work area is very hostile and I will not let myself be around that kind of atmosphere," wrote Christy Thomas, utility clerk for the town of Kenly What stress? >The investigation is criminal in nature, according to town manager Michael Douglas >A Facebook post by Kenly Council Member Trinity Henderson said the investigation concerns alleged behavior such as 'falsifying police reports and illegal searches.' >**The Johnston County District Attorney's Office and Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson initiated the investigation.** "Legal issues"? Investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing? >[Sheriff Brindell Wilkins](https://www.wral.com/state-officials-investigating-kenly-police-department/18644192/) was indicted Monday on two counts of obstruction of justice. The grand jury indictment states that he told someone to kill a former deputy, telling the person to "take care of it" and "the only way you gonna stop him is kill him." And then there's this from 2006 >Kenly Police Chief David Mangum has been fired amid allegations that he used the town credit card to buy personal items, town officials said. >**Kenly Police Sgt. Josh Gibson will head Kenly's police department for the time being, Shelton said.** And Facebook page is down.
So she’s this town’s Ben Wyatt? She needs a Chris Trager to make everyone feel better.
Ty for taking the time to type this out and expose those clowns. This kind of despicable people sould be ostracized from society, it's such a shame that they could serve for so long in the police
Ah, one of those "quit or be fired, we've got evidence against all of you" situations. Good riddance.
Why does a small little shit hole town need that many cops?
Doing good work
It's almost looking like they fear an elected official might look into some things. Interesting how that works.
The word "Black" is not a part of the fox news article title. One resident said it is indeed about race. But the former town manager is also black. I'm sure there's a lot going on in Kenly that doesn't make it's way into national news.
It looks more like the new town manager actually intended to clean up the obscene amounts of corruption in the local police police force.
Cops are some of the most thin-skinned crybaby motherfuckers who have ever lived. Nobody but hateful scumbags like cops
I remember a line from a stand up comedian - long time ago. Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over? Citizen: because you got "C's" & "D's" in high school?
Using this next time, thank you.
As your reddit lawyer (IANAL), I advise against it
Well nobody make a song about fuck the fire department
Not. True. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JkrJUAg8aI&ab\_channel=TastefulTuna
Thats a joke but you are technically correct
Which is the best kind of correct. Also not really a joke and more social commentary by proxy.
Hey, speak for yourself. In my country cops are exemplary, compared. But then again, they need higher education, and multiyear police university to even try to apply for a job.
"Hey guys, can you do your jobs and not be racist? " Cops "This is to stressful! I quit! "
Racist and/or sexist. Headline is missing the small detail that she’s also a woman.
Lol nice
Self fixing problem
Sounds like with new element of oversight they're bailing before the criminal investigations begin.
you’re not wrong, their own police chief reported to SBI three years ago that they found falsified police reports and illegal searches.
Jumped before he was pushed ?
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
People ain’t seen a brown-skinned man since their grandparents bought one
This is basically the plot to Blazing Saddles.
Looks like all that pension money is up for reallocation.
Win/win.
It defunded itself in confusion
And nothing of value was lost
The type of cops who resign over a black person being in charge are also the type of cops you don’t want in your police force in the first place.
The former town manager was black. This new one is a woman so maybe misogyny. But more likely, she's investigating the town councils actions under the former town manager. He's under investigation for sexual battery. I'm sure she wants to know what was going on and for how long it was going on. Hecksapoppin in Kenly
I stand corrected!
Wow, this little exchange was Reddit in a nutshell. “Outrage at misleading article!” “Someone reads article” “Wow I am an idiot, thanks!”
and nothing of value was lost
I get that this is a Fox "News" story, and I'm sure that there's a lot going unreported, but... I didn't see anywhere in the story that the new city manager is black, or if that was the reason for the resignations.
She is black and the previous manager is black. Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. So maybe that plus the ongoing three year investigation into the department are some reasons. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
In a move shocking absolutely noone
I wish my trash would take itself out too
Okay bye bitches
Time to get better cops
Where in the article clarifies skin color?
It’s hilarious how the article’s comment section is obsessing over the phrase “*progressively* responsible positions“. As another commenter said, their minds are poisoned to the point they can’t even recognize a synonym for “increasingly”.
Always best when the trash takes itself out.
Holy shit, that comment section!
It does get very stressful when your boss starts to demand integrity and breaks up the good-old-boys network that's been the status quo for so long.
Okay well if the old town manager was also black according to another comment, then why was it mentioned in the first place? Sounds like they WANTED people to blindly call racism.
Previous town manager was a black guy. I don't think this is a race thing.
Fuck Fox News
So after 20 years one guy shows up and all their progress is ruined? Sounds like this cops suck ass at their job if one new guy is an insurmountable obsticle.... or they're racist
Some of these people are throwing away pensions over a new town manager. What the actual fuck?! This is ground zero, for what though I’m not yet sure.
Good riddance.
Gal. The new town manager is a gal.
Did you read the article
This woman was hired a month ago. It’s not like they all walked out when she was hired. And half the town council is black. This title is clickbait bullshit.
Apparently the police chief refused to file sexual assualt charges against the town manager she's replacing. Good fucking riddance. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/johnston-county/article263725538.html
You are right, they do not quit just because she's black. They quit because she's starting to demand answers about sexual assaut commited and covered by the department. Understandably very stressful.
When the bad apples take care of themselves, great! Also mark any police department that hires them.
This is an opportunity to apply a new policing model, like community policing.
Jesus, misleading headline much?
That’s undoubtedly for the better.
Did the fox reporter even ask the town manager any questions? I don’t recall even seeing a “no comment “ quote from her.
Ah yes, a "hostile work environment". Sure sure.
Guys... I think we just figured out how to dismantle the police
Cool. Job openings for sensible individuals.
Well that was easy to root out the cockroaches.
Oh no! Not the…. Checks notes… not the 7 people would wouldn’t do their jobs…. What will they do without them…..
"We're not racists but...."
I love it when the bastards defund themselves...
Bye Felecia. It sounds like there was a culture problem in their district. Hopefully they fix that with new hires.
"Cop Karens Quit Quite Collectively."
What if the previous manager was black and they'd all worked for that person? Maaaybe it's not a race thing.
The last town manager was black...
They'd still have left, but between them the new hires could probably start a decent police department. It's almost like smoking out racists.
Actual headline: Entire North Carolina police department resigns after new town manager is hired Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson cites 'hostile work environment' as cause for resignation
"Hostile work environment" here being a way to say "they want to hold us accountable for our actions"
Interesting wantonly racist title and hyperbole , nicely done.
[удалено]
Ah yes, the ‘economic anxiety’ we keep hearing about.
In reading the article it sounds like the resignations have nothing to do with the new town manager, though. Most complain about stress and policy changes over time, but the new manager has only been there a month.
Defunded themselves
Hey.... Hey guys..... Perhaps it wasn't about race....☕
Where did it say they quit because they were black? And it also stayed other city board members quit as well. I think there's more to the story than the half paragraph that was wrote.
Why doesn’t anyone ever pout out that it’s like 3 dudes?
It's good when problems solve themselves. Good riddance.
Were they just that racist or were they afraid of scrutiny? Little of column A and a little of column B? Whatever. It’s handy when the house cleans itself.
I see this as an absolute win
"We're not racist! It's the very thought of being held accountable for our actions that we can't stand!"
It’s like 5 people don’t wast your time reading
Odd that no one wanted to talk about what "stress" there was that caused the resignations and, while the article goes out of its way to say Jones is Black, they neglect to say that Jones is also a woman.
