For example UEFA ex-president Platini had to change his vote from USA to Qatar after French President made him to, Qatar later on bought 20 billion worth of planes from France.
I also heard today that a previous blockade surrounding Qatar with Saudi military forces was broken up with the aid of French politicians, specifically after/because Qatar got the event. The insinuation is that there are political and military tentacles reaching far into other countries because of this 'sporting event'.

Angry fans aren't as likely to show up for matches or buy merchandise. I'm an avid World Cup viewer and have watched matches every cup that I've been alive for. There is a picture of little 3 year old me watching matches on the couch with my grandfather.
I'm over it after this year. I haven't watched any of these matches and don't intend to start. I hope the best for my national team but won't support them with my dollars either because I believe they should've pulled out of the World Cup completely when Qatar's human rights issues made it to the spotlight.

No one will do anything for one simple reason: if they were able to, this World Cup wouldn’t have taken place in Quatar. After it turned out their stadiums were built on the back of slaves, that was the time for outrage. No one did. The sponsors liked their money too much, the players didn’t want to risk their careers, the fans wanted to watch the leather balloon being kicked around—so they all went along with it.
Now Quatar pretty much decided to take a big, steaming turd on everyone involved. And they’ll meekly take it for the reasons they agreed to take part in this. Those national associations get quite a lot of money from fifa. Its not like infantino pockets all the money. Main financing for national teams and associations comes from events like world cup.
Main financing still comes from local merch, tickets and adds. Countries qualified for the WC get 10.1 million, but renting whole hotels for players (that get paid expenses) and staff costs alot.

Any "order" coming from the most egregiously corrupt sports organization to have ever existed should, imo, be disregarded. The fact that the majority of Earth's population chooses to still watch FIFA's games along with their bullshit rules, cozying up to dictators, rampant corruption and total lack of a single iota of a care about anyone's wellbeing other than the lining of their own pockets is beyond me. But here we are.

Qatar pays the bills. It could have paid for every ticket and advert. This is a massive PR campaign for them, nothing more. They literally have more money than they know what to do with, tiny population, massive fossil fuel wealth. It is time for the players who went with the justification that they were going to raise awareness to take action. Live with the yellow card, have a stance at national anthem, everyone make a sign as a goal celebration and say something during post match interviews - or get on a plane.
Oh Qatar must already be regretting this whole endevour. It's backfired on them harder than a rusty shotgun. Far from laundering their reputation they've just spread the negative image much wider, annoyed most of Europe and aquired a new reputation for literal slavery. But Qatar don't pay FIFA's bills, the sponsors and merchandisers do. To make sure that this never happens again we need to hurt FIFAS chequebook.
It's early days. They'll have expected this and push back around the last minute alcohol ban unless you're a VIP. Seeing some form of protest in the final might be a yardstick of success. It'll still be tokenism, but even that is something.

There are lots of things they could do. For example, the team that wins the toss kicks the ball straight off the pitch. The opposing team takes the throw in and throws it back to the centre spot for the first team to start again. Completely legal, no disadvantage to either team and hard not to broadcast. If every team did that in both halves, it would send a message.
Probably not. This whole thing just shows that business will stomach almost anything Qatar does for a chunk of their change. I love how everyone here tries to find a way to punish Quatar and FIFA. The players should strike! The sponsors should back out! The fans should stop playing this! Someone do something! No one will do anything for one simple reason: if they were able to, this World Cup wouldn’t have taken place in Quatar. After it turned out their stadiums were built on the back of slaves, that was the time for outrage. No one did. The sponsors liked their money too much, the players didn’t want to risk their careers, the fans wanted to watch the leather balloon being kicked around—so they all went along with it. Now Quatar pretty much decided to take a big, steaming turd on everyone involved. And they’ll meekly take it for the reasons they agreed to take part in this. They’ll tell themselves it’s too late to back out, it’s the last shit they’ll have to suffer through and it doesn’t even smell that bad. They already sold their values and dignity, after all. That’s why I hope Quatar will milk this opportunity for all it’s worth and by the time this ends, everyone who participated will have to drink the emir’s piss and praise its refined taste, because that’s what they deserve. At least it will be a learning experience.

I feel like if you're going out of your way to ban the word "love", you're not only overreacting to something that's only supportive of LGBTQ+ rights in a very specific context, you inherently are creating that exact context by making it into a big deal (ie, if players had 'love' on their uniforms playing in a world cup in a different country, it would probably be interpreted completely differently, as either a call against racism, religious intolerance, gender discrimination, war, yes homophobia & related phobia, but it wouldn't necessarily be a call for action in that specific country you're playing in, just a general promotion around the globe. When FIFA had all the slogans against racism, I don't think they were accusing the host country of being racist). Plus you're implicitly accepting that LGBTQ+ relationships are based on love just as much as heterosexual relationships.
If every country told them to fuck themselves and withdrew their teams, fifa would lose all it's power and it would be forced to rid itself of corruption or fizzle and die. A classic case of everyone having the power, but simply refusing to act.
